One of the most underrated drivers in NASCAR. Even though he never won a championship, never won the Daytona 500, but 23 career wins & a streak of 16 consecutive years of winning at least one race is very underrated!
And alot of those years were as an owner driver. Not even the magnificent bill elliott and Darrell waltrip could do that
And he was one of the toughest S.O.B.'s to ever drive a Cup car. Was it Daytona when he crashed in practice, both his eyes were swollen shut from injuries in the crash but he was going to race no matter what, so he taped his eyes open so he could see to race.
To accomplish what he did as an owner/driver of a single car team, at a time in NASCAR when big bucks is what won races, is a remarkable feat.
Not as underrated as Richard petty the king is cause he was racing over 30 years and he broked a word recors about 200 wins but rip him his last race was in jeff gordon first race in 1995 (i think)
@@kabloey7979 his last race was in 92, he won 200 by competing in twice as many races per year as the average driver. Plus he had a lot of tricks up his sleeve. Im sure some of his wins were just tho

For 32 years, Ricky Rudd started the 2nd the most races of all Cup drivers with 906! That’s an achievement that will most likely never be duplicated by anyone else. But the interesting part of Ricky’s career is that he raced the 2nd Gen car, the 3rd Gen car, the 4th Gen car, & the COT! He raced in almost everything he was ever put in! 🤯

If only he could’ve gotten a win in the 21. Then he would’ve been able to have won in the Childress 3 car, the Hendrick 5, the Yates 28, and the Wood Brothers 21. I don’t think Ricky held on too long in his career but after his days in the 28 it just feels like a low point on his career. Still I think Ricky deserves a spot in the hall of fame. Maybe not first ballot but definitely deserves a spot.
Honestly looking back at his time in the 21 car he was a lot better in that car than it felt
He lost that race in 04 to front row Joe at Kansas after that seemed like his chances to win were over

2003 fall race at Richmond will be a classic race. Never mess with "The Rooster" however.
I sure do miss ol' Ricky Rudd out there. I started watching nascar in 1999 so I saw the tail end of his career but he was still on the top of his game and I got to see him win a few races before he retired. Old school tough drivers.

I remember when he spun Davey out on the last turn of a road course in CA. They took the win from him & gave it to Davey! I still have the #10 Tide model,still in the box!❤😎👍

Forever my favorite driver in NASCAR history. That #10 Tide Ride brings back many memories of watching with my dad.

Its sad to see Harvick go. Seeing him tangle with Rudd makes you realize the breadth of his career. You are an old salt to have tangled with Rudd. As an old Rudd fan, I'm really going to miss Harvick. Great racer and a NASCAR legend!
The man was relevant for almost 3 decades. No matter what he was driving there was always one race he was going to get, and he got it. Rudd was a NASCAR gem!

For me, no question that his lone win from 1998, at Martinsville, was his greatest win. It's not just that he won, not even that it was the year Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin combined to win 20 races between them, but it was the fact that on lap 5 of 500, his in car cooling system had failed. He was one tough guy
Imagine if Nadeau won that 2002 Sonoma race. For a mediocre one-off ride, he had an incredible run.
Injuries robbed Nadeau when he had his equipment right he could drive with the best of them

Was at Cedar Point and it was 100 degrees the day my family by went up there. We gave up and decided to go next door to their water park and stopped inside Cedar Point for something to eat before the water park in one of the places you could eat indoors. I keep talking to my kids and my wife is helping some of their friends get situated and I keep looking at this guy and his wife and kid eating and enjoying themselves thinking …… I know that guy but how? I had an autographed picture of him from my brother who is in sports marketing and I get the nerve and wait til they are almost done eating and ask his wife do you guys like racing? She smiles and says well we kind of have to. The moment she finished I slapped the table and said your Ricky Rudd. He said he rarely gets noticed up north and he couldn’t have been nicer. Sat with us for about 5 full minutes and his young son ( 2003) ? Was not happy. I don’t blame him. He wants to spend the day with his parents but he was polite just anxious. The waitress must of heard part of the conversation and swarmed him on his way out and she said are you Ricky Rudd and he smiled and said no I just look like him and he winked at us. Cool memory and I have it on my video camera to this day. 😎👏👏
