Truly because Ricky wants it that way. He is on his own time. He wants to be retired in the truest sense. No commitments whatsoever. If he randomly wants to do something he will do it. If he has something planned and the time comes and he doesn't want to he simply doesn't. Just a care free I do what I want when I want type of thing. One of the lucky ones that can do that. I really feel that is why DW stepped away from broadcasting. He just wants to step away from any real commitments.

Ran into him at Patrick Ford in Fayetteville NC one day and happened to be wearing my DJ #88 QC Jacket and damned if he didn't offer to sign it for me. He has the “Days of Thunder” Rowdy Burns edginess and toughness to him. In the episode they also bring up 1984 at Daytona where he wrecks then races the 500 with tape to keep his swollen eyes open, he suffered a concussion that wreck and his arms were flailing out the window, unbelievable. A true NASCAR legend.

The Man The Myth The Legend, The Iron Man of Nascar, RICKY RUDD!!!. Man growing up Rudd was me and my Dads favorite race car driver. When Rudd retired I lost all interest in Nascar. Every Sunday use to be awesome knowing that we were going to get to watch Ricky Rudd race. Good times back then. I dont no if Rudd remembers but at Homestead during the meet and greets my dad was in line and saw Rudd walk out and Yelled God Dam its RICKY RUDD. He was so excited that when he shook Rudds hand he almost broke it haha. Rudd needs to come out of retirement for 1 more season. Come on RICKY RUDD give us 1 more year.

I most enjoyed at around 4:07, the tacit acknowledgement that if you were running good that day, Dale would spin you early so he wouldn't have to deal with you later. Yep. One day I was at lake norman state park riding mountain bike and met up with Ricky. This was a real treat for me as I followed him back when he raced. We are the same age and we visited for awhile, he was real nice acted just like any normal guy up there riding. I moved back to PA in 2016 to retire, I miss running into these guys I used to follow.
