I jumped on that notification so fast! Sorry kids, breakfast can wait. Don't hold back, add as much detail to your videos as you'd like. It doesn't get boring to watch, trust us, we are here for this!
Haha! Me too! I was supposed to go to bed to get my limited two hours of sleep and this was so worth losing a half hour (with viewing & comments) of that.
Agreed, not boring to watch. Especially at 5x speed. Why not show all that hard work! Those who wish to fast forward have the option. :-) The resin inlay looked amazing in the finished product. Great job and keep raising that bar.
Fantastic and awe inspiring! I am watching a ton of these videos to start turning. I am retiring Sunday after 35 years of full time ministry and am inspired to be a “turner!”
Beautiful, you are such a craftsman, I lost my Dad in 2011 he was a wood turner and he would have loved your channel watching you brings me closer to him thank you!
You know, I'm 57 and haven't used a wood lathe since grade 7 wood shop class. My wife just bought me a used lathe for the upcoming father's day. Just a light duty one (looks like for spindle turning, but not heavy work)... old school ... I just need some gouges and a face plate / chuck, and I should be good to go for my first lathe experience in 45 years. Folks like you inspire me. UA-cam is good like that.... showing what can be done if you put your mind to it. Bet I could turn a bowl on it though if I just take my time and make light cuts. R Humphrey... guys like you inspire me. I loved your finished piece. The grapes looked almost good enough to eat, and that was a beautiful piece of wood... more so after you finished your craft on it. Thanks for posting this. - Paul
As you have shown in all your videos your creativity and skill levels are off the charts. As a novice turner , who started way to late in life, all any any information you can give us during your videos is greatly appreciated. Please never feel you are giving us too much information on how you do something. I am always taking notes in regards to lath speed, sanding grit, type of finish material and anything else that you are telling us as you make your projects. Thank you!
you do some of the best work! i like it that you film the shavings flying at the camera! i can almost smell the wood! i'm so glad surgery went well and you are easing back into turning once again.
How have I missed this?! A really gorgeous piece of art. Whoever ended up with this beauty is lucky, and hope they appreciate all the work and creativity you poured into it.
@@RHumphrey Ron, I am relatively new to woodworking and have seen several references to OB Shine Juice. I cannot find what this is and where to get it, as I have seen some amazing results with its use. Could you advise what it is and where to get it? I live in Canada and that may a problem for buying from American suppliers, but I don’t even know where to start! Thanks for any help you can give me. I love your work, find it interesting to watch and am learning techniques from watching you work! Thanks in advance, Al Meyer
Beautiful bowl, design, and technique. Great things require time. Old guys and gals get it. Well worth the investment. Thanks for sharing and Gods speed on your recovery...jb
Words fail... such a beautiful piece. I know virtually nothing about wood turning but this is stunning. Your patient routing says a lot about you. Keep up with demonstrating the creativity God has blessed you with.
You all probably dont give a damn but does anybody know of a method to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb forgot my account password. I would love any tips you can give me!
@Leonard Terrance thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and im trying it out atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
I just finished watching a bunch of your woodturning videos and they are truly amazing and awesome. I thought you would like to know that my wife calls those dark grapes " grape grapes ".
Cup of coffee and a video from Rod. Days starting out right. Excellent work Rod and it shows in that bowl. Did you have to sharpen your bits while you routing out the grapes?
Thank you very much! No, I started with an older bit that broke fairly quick, then switched to a brand new one. Normally I don't need to sharpen during, as long as I start out sharp.
I could watch this guy every day. Oh wait, I do. Rod your channel has been a balm and a tonic for my sleepless nights, but I’m learning along the way and now I’m staying up longer. 😄 I’m probably the most outsider of the community here because I don’t even have a piece of wood and just learned a month ago through your channel what a lathe is. But I love and appreciate your work, your talent, your kindness to your audience and your demeanor. Caught up with all the recent vids and working my way through the older ones like this. That bowl is beautiful! God bless you.
I'm amazed at how even you were able to get the walls between the grapes. I also really like the colors you chose. I found it amazing when you started seeing the color come out as you were turning the bottom of the bowl. This was a really enjoyable video, thank you!
Such talent, thank you for sharing. Glad things are going according to schedule in your recovery. I think you are correct in saying this piece was labor intensive but so worth it again I think the bowl is a work of art you can see the love you put into your projects.
The human touch just can't be replaced, the artist eye and the spontaneous decision when you find a design isn't quite what it ought to be. Transitional spaces are everything but I don't think a computer can appreciate that. This is just beautiful. Hope you mend quickly.
It so cool to watch your project come to life after you spend so much time laying it out. And never sale yourself short your work is right on top with the best.
I had thought I tried everything there is to do on a lathe until I saw this video. Absolutely amazing! I never thought to route out a picture on the bottom of a bowl or plate before. I look forward to trying something simple and working towards a design as wonderful as the grapes. Thanks for sharing.
These are the most amazing bowls I have ever seen, and to get to watch you make them is equally amazing. My favorite wil always be the celtic knot bowl, but this is a close second. Thank you for making the videos.
Absolutely beautiful, as always. My wife and I have shared a corny kind of "I love you" with each other referencing grapes since high school. We're coming up on our 30th wedding anniversary this February. I absolutely have to share this video with her! Thank you for sharing your art and sincerity with us all. You're the Bob Ross of turning in my book!
Just want to thank you for the commentary as you go. Most videos won't do that. That's a great plus in learning new ways to do things. Great bowl, love it. Keep em' coming.
Top class turning, Rod as always. So much skill involved with a beautiful result. The work of the other turners is just amazing and gratifying to know there is so much talent out there. Glad to hear your recovery is on schedule. I'm back in my workshop full time and it's great to wake up in the mornings knowing that's where I'll be spending my day (except when my wife tells me the grass needs cutting). Semper Fi, Alan.
My daughter said if she could eat from any bowl, it'd be that one. Because it looks really cool. I liked it too, the router work was impressive. Another winner Rod.
It's allways a pleasure to watch you turn and resin the work and not forgetting the router work , you take care of yourself and will see you when you're fit and ready,👍👍
You never cease to amaze me. Just as soon as I get better I'll send you photos of some of my work. You inspire me to stretch myself to turn more and more. Thank you. Still praying for a speedy recovery.
I think you made a very good decision to show that amount of routing. Even before you mentioned it, I was watching your hands and the control you exhibited. I am happy to know I am not the only one who loves spending time with my router!!!! I don't have a CNC because I will never be able to afford one, so good router work is my thing.
Gorgeous bowl! Thank you for sharing the videos of your work with us. Take care of your shoulder and be patient with it healing. You are in my prayers to get well soon!
Absolutely love watching you work. I have not yet started turning so i am trying to learn from the best before i give it a try. Thanks for the inspiration!
Awesome bowl!!! Sure something to see, wood and resin creating something so beautiful.... never imagined mixing anything with wood like this. It's really become a major item these days.
Well done again RH! Very well done! It is a joy to watch you work your turning. Thanks for sharing your talents with all of us. You help me want to be a better turner. And thank you for your service to our country.
First let me say it's good to hear your recovery from surgery is going well! As for the bowl? WOW! That bowl is one of the most creative, perfectly executed turnings I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing that with us!
Love that bowl Rod...watching your work always gives me a sense of peace and wellbeing...magical!! Great to hear your recovery is going well...God bless!!

Gorgeous!! When you are holding this bowl in the sunlight these grapes just begin to live. That is amazing. A lot of work created a stunning beauty!!
Thank you so much! 😊
This is the first thing I've ever seen made on UA-cam that I would totally buy. So unique, and so much more interesting than a common wood bowl.

this is the wood turning work with most sense of art I've ever seen. it's not the simple wood + resin combination, but with design and creativity
"its just a skill set i dont want to hand over over to a computer" well said sir.
Thank you, I appreciate that!
I understand. Sometimes you just want to get your hands on something and feel the work.
Incredible work, as always. Thank you for sharing your work with us!
Thank you very much!
Lovely. The idea of reaming the wood out on the inside and the grapes appearing magically is really amazing

Reminds me of 'cloisonné' work. This is a truly stunning bowl! Thank you for sharing your artistry Rod!
That bowl is one of my all-time favorites. Such a nice job! 💜
It’s nice to see someone make something so beautiful without using the cnc, well done sir it’s wonderful
Everything about this bowl is amazing
I'm not sure I have the patience for something like this, Rod, but I'm glad you do! Just an outstanding piece and video!

It's beautiful! I agree with you, it's fun and satisfying to do handmade intricate work. I pray for a speedy recovery!
Gorgeous grain in that piece! Almost ANYONE can run a CNC machine but only a true craftsman can freehand route a design like that!
Thank you very much!
This is gorgeous and I love it. Watching you do the routing bit was really satisfying. :)
Another beautiful piece of craftsmanship. Absolutely gorgeous piece.
Much appreciated!
You sir are an artist, so satisfying watching you router, leaving those walls! Amazing, just amazing 👏
As an artist I am in love with your art. Beautiful. My late husband and I designed woodworking pieces together and I love woodworking. Amazing bowl.
Unless someone has tried this they don't realize how hard this is! I tried and it would take me a LOT of practice to ever get half as good as you are.
Thank you Billy, you're too kind!

This is so cool, thanks for sharing.. I hadn't turned my first bowl... Wow Full View and Like..
