The food network started out fine but pulled an MTV and turned into mere crap. I Never watch it anymore. There is way more informative cooking shows on UA-cam.
I think you said it perfectly. I used to watch it to learn. I have some British tele shows to recommend because I refuse to pay American sponsors of these shows.
Exactly! Like MTV, it is always seeking to capture the 18 to 32 year old male demographic, at the expense of their other viewers. And, sadly, I'd say most of them are there for drama, not food. The same as MTV, drama, not music.
Right? It seems mainstream cable TV's been WAAAY too cookie cutter for its own good, especially over the past 10 - 15 years. All the moves Food Network's been doing CLEARLY proves that.
@@InvisibleAvenger That was a one-time special. When it went to cable TV, they wanted a closer parallel to the original series (Shatner was too known for Priceline then)
As much as I never cared for Iron Chef, I did enjoy Good Eats. I loved the backstories and information with the recipes and diverse styles. Of course he is going to rave up the current iteration of his show. What's he going to say? "it sucks????" I will say Good Eats and all the reloads seemed to have been given a good leaving alone by the network. the episode with his grandmother making biscuits was a true classic.
As some others have commented, "Alton Brown is the Good Eats guy, NOT the Iron Chef guy." I never cared for "Iron Chef" all that much. But I loved Good Eats. A show about Cooking, Food History, puppets, Science and just basically a seemingly improv show... It was/is glorious. Alton is wasted in an MC role, IMHO...
Loved the original Iron Chef. The Food Network Iron Chef was pretty good but knowing there is a third version, which Alton Brown and Kirsten are both seasoned cooks/chefs that I've watched for for a long time. They have good personalities, and I would be looking forward to watching one day.
He's on YT. He and his wife did a bunch of episodes during quarantine and he talked about why he left. It used to be a weekly thing, but I think he got too busy touring again.
Am I the only one watching this and thinking everything that's being said they want, they already had with the original Iron Chef? I love Alton Brown. I loved Good Eats (both the original one and the ones where he commentates over the originals), and Alton' work on Iron Chef America. So I'm not knocking him at all. And I admit not seeing or even knowing there was a new Iron Chef on Netflix. But They wanted more story behind the meals they chose or the chefs? Original IC had that every episode, going into their background, what cooking means to them, their families and careers. Wanted to incorporate culture into the food and meals? Original Iron Chef LITERALLY had that! It was built into the show with each Iron Chef being based on a style of cooking. Challengers chose not on popularity (tho I'm sure SOME did), but a great deal based on the style of cooking. Each challengers and Iron Chef OFTEN incorporated unique and special techniques based on the culture and style of cooking chosen. Wanted the host to eat with the judges? The Chairman/host of the original did just that! Honestly, this sounds more like a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I loved the original way more than ICA. ICA was more a popularity contest on which chef got chosen, etc. The original has a great atmosphere, amazing look and the feel of honor, tradition and respect to everyone involved has never been matched. You don't need to go "bigger/better" to evolve. Sometimes, all you need to do is tweak something. Like how the original added an Iron Chef Italian to the show. Just my 5 cents. Sorry, no refunds! 😉😁
It seems like The Food Network has turned into the Guy Fieri Network. Whenever I turn to see what is on, it is Guy this and Guy that. Enjoyed some of the shows earlier but not so much now.

I was so sad to hear a bunch of years ago that he's just not a cool or nice guy in the real world. I loved Good Eats; the Mr. Wizard - or, Bill Nye if you're younger - of cooking shows!
I liked Alton when he had his old show which was witty, funny and self-deprecating. As host of Iron Chef, he showed a more serious side and acted kinda like a dick. He is NOT a chef and should not act superior to the creative people who show their amazing culinary inventions.

I saw it and the show was OK. It will take sometime to adjust to it. Food Network does have a thing with getting rid of older talent. Just as Emeril about his live show that ended in 2002 for younger Bobby Flay. Bobby said BAM!! and Emeril was gone never to return only in those dreaded infomercials pushing cookware on late nite or early morning Cable TV. So Sad!!!!
Alton physically may have left recently, but spiritually he left when he dressed up as a Turkey for his Thanksgiving special. Aka Jumped the Fonzie Shark Tank. FN has just spiraled down to another channel skipped over.
I loved Food TV when it started. I learned so much from Emeril, Alton, Ina and others. Then it devolved into contests and ridiculousness. I am not a fan. I no longer watch Food Network.
I enjoyed Alton on Good Eats! It was witty, entertaining, as well as informative. Iron Chef is none of those things. Hated Iron Chef in ALL its iterations. You learn nothing and I don't give one hoot about their "lives". Cook the food, make it good and don't poison anybody. That's ALL a Chef should do, that's their JOB! What "storytelling, its a COOKING CONTEST SHOW PERIOD! It boils down to Netflix was going to pay him MORE money and with a co-host that, of course in this age of DEI/ESG wokeness, HAD to be female and probably of the alphabet soup community and do less for the money than he did before. Just another reason for me to save money and never watch anything on Netflix.
I don't know that terrible would be accurate, a let down, No where near the original, and AB/FN didn't help that..FN has Guy tho so, grain of salt...nah you're right the new IC@FN was Terrible! :(...
Yeah right! Watch Season 18 of Worst cooks in America. Then you'll see how much of a great cook, genius, and teacher he is. It's embarrassing and cringe worthy. Good eats is great, but edited and not live.
Why wasn't the new Good Eats on Food Network? As they mention here it was on a channel I don't get and behind a paywall. So I never got to watch it. Also wondering what happened to the AB that was fun and irreverent. Seems like he's changed in his old age
So he chose to follow the BS American Iron Chef. Where the Iron chef and secret ingredient is chosen and known long before filming. Garbage compared to the original.
AB became famous for Good Eats, not Iron Chef…the Netflix version of Iron Chef became w0ke and boring. I couldn’t even watch all of episode 1. Alton probably claims to like the new format because he wouldn’t want to bite the hand that feeds him, but I’m guessing he doesn’t want to co-host the show. I will be surprised if it gets renewed.
What do you think of Alton Brown's career over the years?
Never a an of Alton Brown.
Alton Brown is a talented and entertaining host, but Cutthroat Kitchen was just a dumb idea for a show.
I love his Good Eats days - the science behind the food, his "relationship" with his sister, and his rivalry with W. I missed all that.
When I think of Alton Brown I think of Good Eats. Not Iron Chef...
Me too
Good eats was awesome
Maybe Netflix will pick it up?
Good eats learned me about cookin
He did a new Good Eats but Discovery put it behind their pay wall streaming service.
Good Eats was the best, especially around thanksgiving!

I couldn't agree more...loved the food channel when it was new...but turned to crap tv...I do the same and find great cooking on You Tube

You are so correct, it used to be my go too for anything cooking related, if I want games, ill switch to the Games Network
Nothing but game shows. Let’s go back to the days of PBS style cooking shows.
I wish network programs Execs were in touch with the fans!
I didn't realize Iron Chef America was on Netflix. Gotta go watch now.
Same, girl. Same.
It was almost like when they had contenders try to see if they had what it took to join the Iron Chef group. The last was Stephanie Izard.
Before IRON CHEF AMRRICA there was IRON CHEF USA, William Shatner was the chairman

Had a couple friends work with him in Atlanta years ago. It was the type of unpleasant experience that gets news today.
He seems very unpleasant when you get him on camera interacting with other people. He comes across as dismissive and demeaning.

Alton is a talented and clever guy, just ask him!
Lol
I do think he is his favorite topic
hahaha
Fortunately, I invested in a hardback copy of "Good Eats 4: The Final Years".
While it does give the reason Alton left, this video feels like a thinly veiled ad for the netflix Iron Chef.
Huh? What about "Good Eats"? That's where I know him from and he is one of my favorites.

Is there going to be a new season? So far there is only one out. Seems like it’s been quite awhile since the 1rst season on Netflix.

Ty getting my Netflix again now plus I’ll get to watch better feed Phil yeah
