My father was a carpenter by trade, a craftsman by desire. He was fond of box making and, had he not passed many years before the internet was probably even contemplated, would have been a fan of your work. As a child, and I’m now 78, I can recall the countless hours he spent in his home shop fashioning small works of art we simply called “boxes”. Boxes his friends keenly admired in the hopes he might take pity on them and craft one for their keepsakes. Keep up the ”fine wood crafting”.
Beautiful work, as usual. And the narration I find very stimulating, and at the same time comforting. Because your work turns out so nice, yet you highlight your mistakes as you proceed through. The sunburst glue bleed through, I thought looked like an extra touch of detail against the maple, as I imagined it on all of the pieces. Maybe try "screwing up" on all of them next time.😂
Ah damn, thought you were going to walk us through from milling scrap logs to joinery, but still a gorgeous video of gorgeous woodwork. And I thought graphic penetration was against community standards, even if you pull out (8:27).
Dude I really enjoy your videos I’m not much of a wood worker my self but I truly enjoy your witty humor and attention to detail! Absolutely love your work sir thank you!
Those turned out really well. I mean, everyone likes box... -es, even yours. I do doubt, however, that you'll ever land a hand modeling gig, but don't give up! My only thought here other than, "Finally he used lacquer!" is that you've managed to take basic boxmaking and complicate the snot out of it. When I got ready to attempt my first box (we all remember our first box), I watched too many YT videos, and promptly discarded the kind with the fancy corner pinstriping thing that luthiers fap to... way too complex. Great fix on the accidental lid cut, btw. Also, others might be traumatized by the splinter shot, but I really enjoyed seeing you get penetrated by wood. Okay, I'm done now. Beautiful effort, seriously. I'll show myself out.
Very nice. While you might consider yourself green at veneering I hope to oneday work up to veneering. Also, looks like we had the same idea for that Flexispot base!
You are amazing, man! I love your style so much, not just what you make, but your attention to detail, your meticulous and artistic capture of video of the project, and your voiceovers. Hell, even the soundscape is great! I love watching you, and I was especially surprised to see when you did the purfling, and also mentioned the idea of covering a mistake with an embellishment - these two ideas intersected in my box, as my shitty mitre saw caused hella tearout when cutting the mitres... So I routed out the corners and purfled it. Bam! Hahaha don't stop man, I'll religiously watch everything you put out!!!
At first, I thought you said " Dope Box." I went back and listened to it again, and my 10-year-old asked, "What's a dope box? " I said, "No, he said, "Hope box. " She then says, " Is he from where we used to live? I said, yes he's from Washington. He definitely, said dope box, Dad.
Your narrative is the best Nick, and your skills to me are unmatched. I thought my 30 plus years skills were pretty good, then I see yours and nah, my skills are just poop. Lol. This old man really likes your videos.
I always enjoy watching your videos and to witness your wood working skills improve along with film making is awesome. That FlexiSpot desk is a good idea for a workshop. Keep it up and don't forget you are awesome.
Dude!! There are peeps I watch and wonder or ask my self { "self..how would I do that with out those tools?"} With you stuff? I sometimes don't even know how you pull it off with the tools you have. Your builds are equal art and woodworking. Dare I say it ? For me you are the Frank Lloyd Wright of furniture building/creation. Well done.
Nice work always appreciate you showing your fixes. It is so helpful to see what can be fixed and how good it can look afterwards. Where did you get those latches got a project coming up that might be the trick. Thanks.
I just glued up a pair of matching drawer boxes, without any issues, and was pret-ty proud of my boxes. Then I watched you make these, where your mistakes are better looking than my final product. Well, always room for improvement. Very nice video.
I always worry that the perfling will not be robust? enough. Like, I'll get it all finished, turn around and brush the wall or something, and rip a chunk of it out. Great veneer work, the boxes are beautiful! Super impressed with the bleed through repair, I probably would have just cried.
I'm currently making a desk for my teenage son, and am using your technique for making thin veneers with the platform in the planer. Works great. Thanks for the tip.
These boxes are beautiful!! I’ve learned a lot can you make something else with verneer so we all can keep learning. Lastly where do you get those brass base nameplates from?
Regarding celebrating rather than trying to hide mistakes- Prof. Stamm at University of Az college of architecture often used the phrase “paint it red and call it a feature.”
Beautiful work they look stunning and what a great recovery on your boo boos too beautifully executed. Thanks for stopping by a bit more to your always a great watch
Dude your skills are unmatched on this thing called UA-cam! Fckn insane bro! Every video is better than the last! Good shit! Keep up the awesome work! You’re Welcome!
Stunning, beautiful, all those adjectives. I have. yet to tackle the intricacies of veneer. I'm interested to see how well the veneer holds over time. I've always heard "thou shalt use hide glue on veneer" and "that shalt use none but PVA on veneer".... etc. Seems to me like they would all work as long as. you get the coverage even. But I think PVA might work better. Thoughts?
Yeah I’ve not had luck with PVA and the people I look up to recommend against it. Hammer veneering with hide glue is a pro approach that I’ve not tackled, but has been recommended. Looks messy.
nice work. question: how are you able to plane the edges and veneer fixes without gouging into the surrounding surfaces. I have trouble with that almost every time. Thanks.
So is this a spoken wood channel now?
@@failzilla
You are my hero.
Thank you for the laugh. I really needed it.
wood whisperer
Always has been! Might have had a little more to say about this one than usual.
Love the voiceover, it’s like poetry to me! Love love your channel!

Stunning boxes, Nick! Really beautiful work!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

How you tackle the problems is most important to me. Nice to see honesty in woodworking. But, did you remember to “tickle” your wood? 😅
Gorgeous work!
Thanks man!
Your firewood certainly looks prettier than mine
ahh foot and box bdsm...gorgeous

Turned out awesome! Appreciate showing us how you fixed the "eff" ups, been there, got the t-shirt!

Will be sending pics of my digits in hopes that I fulfill my dreams of a career in modelling. Let me know ASAP if you want pics of the feets, too.
"it's not the mistake ,it's how you fix it!" Enjoyed your processing the process. LOL!

Awesome video, love the voice over, you’re really an outstanding poet.
For anyone that is into veneering I highly recommend the Craig thibodeau book.
Your sorcery still frightens me. Beautiful work as always.
So beautiful. Not a surprise, but so beautiful. Well done.
She's a beaut, Clark! Gorgeous as usual my friend!
Beautiful as every time. I really don't think I will ever get that good.
I did that cross pattern with the lid on a humidor I built. I came up with the idea on my own. Nice to see someone else figured it out too.
As usual amazing work! Very nice job.
what kind of hardware are you using on the making boxes wrong show? where can I get some at?
My favorite box was the one I stored all my Pokemon cards in
I appreciate that each new video you try new things. Keep going!
You are amazing! And the attention to detail! Great work
Thanks for a great video. Your work is fantastic
Weirder you say? That’s the good part.😅
Does it really matter we 1.5" chisel and not 2" one
Dare I say it, you may be the Bob Ross of wood. Bob Ross’ wood? A wood Bob Ross? A boss robs wood?
Awesome, Fab, Super, how about a puzzle box ?
Hands down the most underrated channel on YT
I'm vibing with your deep diving. Keep it up.
Only 17 seconds in! Best intro you have done! ✅
I love your work and sense of humour. Thanks
Love that chisel mic. Looks really sharp

Hey thanks! I think the trick is just really light passes and a really sharp iron

Nice work.
Is this a new genre, woodworking poetry, if so it’s cool
Glad you’re liking it! Just trying to keep it fresh.
Excelente trabajo compañero. Si señor. Te felicito. 👏👏
Nice recovery on the mistakes. Always a great test on mental fortitude. Thanks for showing us your box!
Gorgeous !
Beautiful!
What program or software do you use to edit your videos
Davinci Resolve 👍
How you tackle the problems is most important to me. Nice to see honesty in woodworking. But, did you remember to “tickle” your wood? 😅
Dat miter gauge tho
Thank you for sharing your journey that ends in the awesome boxes.
Guy just traumatized his entire audience with the gratuitous splinter shot.
❤❤❤❤
Where is the rolex man ?? 😂😂😂
Love the woodworking but had to watch on mute because of the cringe voice over
Glad you figured out the UI to suit your viewing preferences!
