Right after watching this video yesterday, I decided to try out the question banks on AR and scored 190 out of 201 questions. This wasn't under timed conditions though. But prior to this I had absolutely no idea how this section worked. This video is a life saver
It's so cool to have someone guiding people through these things. I for one am having a really hard time with time management but thank you for all your help
Yeah i was thinking what would have helped me most when I was studying for the UKCAT and this is what I came up with! Time management needs lots of timed practice. Start with smaller sections then move on to full tests :) Good luck!
@@KharmaMedic yeah you came up with something great and I pray I'll do something to help others too soon. Thanks for the timing tip I'll try my very best😊. I really appreciate what you're doing.👍
Omg, bro, you are a legend! This is my very very first time looking at how to prepare for the AR section in my life. You make me feel less pressure, and I pause the video, tried by myself first, and our thoughts become similar and similar along the way, which meant I really got the ideas on how you thought the patterns. Btw, I just saw the video you posted on Jun 2021, and your face looks thinner, this revealed how you tried hard to the bone during 4 years of Med journey. All the best with your future, brother!
omg you're literally a life savior.. I was stressing so much about abstract reasoning like half an hour ago but now I feel so comfortable with it. thank you so muchhhhhh
i don't know how mate but this has actually helped no BS, i dont know if it just motivated me to get better but i went from getting 550-570 on medify mocks, and around 50% on the Practice questions to 700-750 on the mocks. Exam is in a few days and this was the section that was really bringing my score down thanks a lot
Lil update got a 680 avg on the exam and band 2 SJT (really pissed about that one always got band 1 on medifiy but life moves on) just did it today should be enough hopefully for all the unis I'm looking at. Got a 660 in AR it was harder than medifiy for me but this video was still an immense help without it I wouldve definitely gotten a score in the 500s and that would've fucked my average completely
@@abdulismail24 Well done fam, 680 is great and the band 2 really helps. You should be able to get into most. I still need to book mine but really well done
@@xavierdrayton-harrold4138 thanks mate hopefully deciles and averages are the same or lower than last year then I'll be in a really good position. I did mine this early because I'll be on holiday for all of August and didn't want to worry about it when I was meant to be relaxing. Anyway mate good luck with yours and let us know how you do too :)
thank you so much for making this type of video. I was genuinely overwhelmed by this section. I was doing the practice along with video and by the end of the video, I got so much better. For some reason not doing it alone really helped to calm my anxiety I feel almost like having a friend to go through this together. Thank you so much one again please know that this helps SO MUCH!

19:50 for this question, you only need to know that white circles become black circles to crack the pattern. Also the very first shape is a white circle, which becomes a black circle. When you see even one pattern, you can eliminate most if not all of the answers and narrow the range considerably, and if necessary when you have to look for another rule you can compare the differences in the two remaining answers to get an idea of where you should be looking. In this case, A and D both have 3 circle near the bottom but in different locations, comparing them to the question, you can see that the circles are in a matching position in A. I realised this, because I wasted loads of time looking at the arrows on the previous question, and you cracked it much faster by finding one rule and running with it.
The last one is probably the easiest because they give you a MAJOR clue. The first line of patterns in the first square and the second square are the same. This means the first line of your answer will look exactly like the line above it. The only option that fits this pattern is A, and so it is your answer. This could probably be solved within ten seconds if someone paid attention to that minor detail. Annnywayss... Great Video! XD
The big fat arrows at 18:10 move positions clockwise (So the very first fat arrow has moved to position left of it. The arrow that was there has moved downwards. That arrow has moved down to the left. That arrow has moved upwards. The arrow that was there has moved to the original arrows position.) Does that make sense?
Thank you so much, I’ve really struggled with this and now I’m feeling a little better now that I’ve got a process and I know that you struggle with some really difficult ones as well but every one you do you get better. Thanks for giving your time to helping us out. X
this is the most helpful channel ive come across on youtube thank you for existing omg.. you're so helpful to me in my prep for the ucat, thank you for such amazing content!! have a great day!!
Thank you so much! I have my UKCAT on the 28th of this month, I was very nervous upto this point but you have helped me to see more patterns. Thank you.
5:50 the weight x2 for colored is good. But you might also find "black shape square vs ovals" that works too. Unfortunately no candidate square was given Set a, set b or none. 6:00 completely blanked out on this one. Thanks. 8:24 also failed to see pattern. Okay 1 more of shape /\ than [=] but set b right top right bottom also follow that pattern. 10:00 Zero is not odd. And what WAS the pattern ? 14:41 yes exactly my thoughts, but this one is classic. Fastest approach in case you don't see it - is there is 2 maybe-correct answers that slightly are different. Eliminate the rest, and figure out which one it is. Here the doubt is between A and C, eliminates B and D. The difference is the circle thing. 19:56 I was counting and stuff. Not intended, they are per-object transformations.
Abstract Reasoning section evaluates student’s ability to recognise patterns of abstract shapes among distractions & extraneous information. I joined iCanMed’s UCAT tutoring that introduce the concepts behind this subtest & provide tips & guidance. They offered me UCAT resources, UCAT practice papers, and mock tests.
Hey Fran! Of course, I recognized you immediately :) I'm happy you found the video useful! If you find Set A and B questions difficult try starting with those patterns that have the least number of shapes in them or which look not cluttered and chaotic. That should help!
Just over 2 weeks until the test! I just found out I've got to do it, I'm getting the 2 week cram course in Medify and going yo practice 3 hours a day!
@@jamiehay1027 It's okay, I guess you should take a year off and prepare again if you are interested in this profession a lot... Good luck with whatever you do, just make sure you like it.
@@maryamm7993 I have done it! I got 2500 and a band 2 on situational judgement, studying in advance was something i’m so glad I did, life got in the way a few weeks before the exam so if I hadn’t prepared beforehand I probably wouldn’t have done nearly as well haha
For the last one I personally did something a little faster that may only apply in a few rare situations but if you look at the top lines of both squares they are the same... so the pattern on the right will be the same for the top line on both and then I deduced that it would be A as it's the only one with the same pattern. I hope that makes sense.
Hi, I have a question for the question involving lines (9:55). Looking at Set A, the fourth box counting left to right has no interactions so it's 0, and 0 is not a odd number. Do we just assume that the pattern exists if it has 3? S

This was unbelievably helpful !! Amazing content, just subscribed!! Please do tutorials like this on the other sections in the UKCAT if you have the time :)! Xx
Hey Eden thanks so much! I'm glad you guys are finding the videos useful! Everyone has been asking, I promise it's the next video I'll do! Is there a specific section you'd like to see first?
I came up with a different rule for the question at 10:53 - Set A always has an odd number of white squares where Set B always has an even number of white squares
Hey, at 6:51 you say "rectangle at base = triangle on right" but in Set A in the second row on the left, the rectangle is at the base of the arrow but the triangle of the same colour is as the left. Could you please clarify what you mean? Thank you :)
I’m so worried and anxious cause I forgot about the UKCAT test. It’s the 28th of Sept. and the deadline for my personal statement is 15th of Oct. Everything’s crashing down and I just want to stop and do nothing now cause I’m literally exhausted mentally and emotionally about all of this.
Hey Ed! I wish you the best of luck today. Whatever happens happens and you'll make the best out of the situation! Regarding the PS you still have plenty of time to write and draft it! Take it one step at a time you can do this!
Kharma Medic Thank you for your support but unfortunately, what I meant by “it’s the 28th” is that I’ve missed the registration deadline which was 18th Sept. meaning that I can’t really apply to any med school now. But honestly, I’ve tried everything to get to med, changing A levels and qualifications, staying an extra year in college and even trying to move to a college that was an hour and a half train ride. Nothing I do for med seemed to go to plan and I’m already mentally, physically and emotionally drained chasing that dream. I think it’s best to just stop and move on now cause we can’t all be doctors and get what we want. But I appreciate your reply. Good luck with the rest of your med journey and enjoy the rewarding outcome haha ✌🏽🙌🏼
Hey Ed! You can still enroll for the BMAT (deadline Oct 15th) and apply to schools which accept the BMAT Exam. There are also schools that accept the GAMSAT. You can also look into studying medicine in another country if that is an option for you. Whatever you decide, best of luck :)
5:41 couldn't the rule be as follows: set A black shapes are always squares, grey shapes are always ovals. Set B black shapes are always ovals, grey shapes are always squares?
Thank you soo much. Now you have an extra subscriber. Are we allowed to take a pen and paper to the UKCAT test? in order to figure out complicated patterns.

@@KharmaMedic what method would you suggest I use to memorise these? I got 16 days
You took these from the isc medical book lol
actual legend
this was very helpful! just did my ucat and i got 870 in abstract reasoning so thank you!!
Well done! Did you just do as many questions as you could to practice?
How were you able to get this great score?- was it just practice?
amazing score! please could you give tips on how you did it?
Right after watching this video yesterday, I decided to try out the question banks on AR and scored 190 out of 201 questions. This wasn't under timed conditions though. But prior to this I had absolutely no idea how this section worked. This video is a life saver
I am shook. I hated the AR section but after your video, it made it look so easy and simple and I find it easier!! Thankyouuuu
Yaaaay! I have many more videos on AR so check them out 😁
It's so cool to have someone guiding people through these things.
It’s SUCH a good feeling going through these and figuring them out yourself :-)
i wrote Ucats yesterday and got 830 in AR
im soo amazed, your videos did me a huuuge favour!
omg you're literally a life savior.. I was stressing so much about abstract reasoning like half an hour ago but now I feel so comfortable with it. thank you so muchhhhhh
Nice! I have a bunch of videos on AR, check them out 😁
Kharma Medic literally first thing in the morning I'm going to watch them all. You're great !!!
i don't know how mate but this has actually helped no BS, i dont know if it just motivated me to get better but i went from getting 550-570 on medify mocks, and around 50% on the Practice questions to 700-750 on the mocks. Exam is in a few days and this was the section that was really bringing my score down thanks a lot
LETS GOOOOO! that's amazing 👊🏼 so happy 😁
Tell us how it goes man
Lil update got a 680 avg on the exam and band 2 SJT (really pissed about that one always got band 1 on medifiy but life moves on) just did it today should be enough hopefully for all the unis I'm looking at.

I found out it the same way and it was much faster.
XD
these videos are saving my life thank you so much, you even manage to make them entertaining :)
I want to make learning about medicine FUN! It shouldn't be as daunting and scary as everyone makes it out to be to pursue your career as a doctor :)
Watched all your videos from the ukcat series and can i just say THANK YOU.
You Sir have given me the strength and support.
❤❤❤❤
Yay that's amazing 😁 glad you enjoyed them!
Hi There! I used your videos for my UKCAT and you helped me get 695 average! Thank you so much man!
Well done Kouros that's great!! Best of luck in the applications 😊
I just wanted to say thank you for doing this!! So kind of you!

5:50 the weight x2 for colored is good. But you might also find
"black shape square vs ovals" that works too.
Best video on abstract reasoning I've come across so far! :)
That's my goal! 😁
Thank you!!!As someone who'll be applying this year, this is so incredibly useful❤
Thank you so much for this video. It is incredibly useful to see how you worked out the patterns.
Perfect!
This was so helpful, thanks for the video! I find the set A and set B questions the hardest :)
Btw, I'm Francesco8801 from TSR 😊
Hey Fran! Of course, I recognized you immediately :) I'm happy you found the video useful! If you find Set A and B questions difficult try starting with those patterns that have the least number of shapes in them or which look not cluttered and chaotic. That should help!
Kharma Medic it will definetly help, thanks!
Thank you so much! :) I've found your videos really helpful, especially on the abstract reasoning section which is the hardest for me.
No worries, that's great!
5 is an odd number when you're counting intersections. Anyways it doesn't bother no more bc the 4th box is even in set b. That's in 9:46 in the video
Just over 2 weeks until the test! I just found out I've got to do it, I'm getting the 2 week cram course in Medify and going yo practice 3 hours a day!

haha lifesavers are my favvv -- anytime!
Thank you so much, I would love to see more videos on AR since it's the hardest part for me
Might be coming in the future!
For the last one I personally did something a little faster that may only apply in a few rare situations but if you look at the top lines of both squares they are the same... so the pattern on the right will be the same for the top line on both and then I deduced that it would be A as it's the only one with the same pattern. I hope that makes sense.
bro your videos are soooo useful. you get straight to the point and its free and very useful.. thanks
I WISH I'd had your videos when I sat my UCAT! Amazing video😊
Just subscribed! Great video. I have my UKCAT in two days and this is great as AR is my weakest subset and helps a lot!

Thank u for this video !! :)
9:41s 🌝
Hi, I have a question for the question involving lines (9:55). Looking at Set A, the fourth box counting left to right has no interactions so it's 0, and 0 is not a odd number. Do we just assume that the pattern exists if it has 3? S
Nevermind, I did not watch the later bit...

I came up with a different rule for the question at 10:53 - Set A always has an odd number of white squares where Set B always has an even number of white squares
Set B unfortunately doesn't always have an even number of white squares.
Hey, at 6:51 you say "rectangle at base = triangle on right" but in Set A in the second row on the left, the rectangle is at the base of the arrow but the triangle of the same colour is as the left. Could you please clarify what you mean? Thank you :)
protip: there are a lot of similarities between the AR and IQ tests, so doing those are good practice
This helped soo much!!!!! Great video!!!!

Bro you’re a lifesaver thank you so much 🙏
Heyy early birds, we got this👌
We got dis!
