Interesting you mentioned how this gasser has more bed payload than your diesel truck. The GVWR can't be more than 14,000 Lbs. if the truck still wants to be labeled as a class-III. Diesel trucks have a higher GVWR, but most of that is in the towing rate, but not a higher bed payload. The reason for this is because a diesel engine is considerably heavier than a gasoline engine & therefore increases the curb weight of the truck. So, you only really want a diesel if you are going to do mostly towing and/ or you plan to put your load on a trailer. Today's direct fuel injection has enabled gasoline engine to not only make a lot of torque, but do it at fairly low RPM's; today's fuel delivery technologies have given gas engines the power band of diesel engines from 15 - 20 years ago. You look like you do a lot of towing, so you warrant the extra cost of getting a diesel.
They might as well be the same truck. I hate when people have a bad experience with chevy and then buy a gmc as if they are getting something different.
You definitely need a power adjustable (height) seat to see over that tall hood. I went from a 20 2500hd sierra slt 6.6 gas to a 21 2500hd silverado high country duramax.....if the 6.6 gas had a 10 speed, it would make a world of difference. The higher trim models with heads up display makes seeing your speed easier! I havent tried but a few people say their 2020+ 2500hds fit 35x12.5x20 without a level. I will be trying once my stock tires wear out.
You don’t need height adjustment if you’re tall enough. I can see the front edge of the hood on my 22 2500 WT z71 with plow prep and camper/5th wheel package so it’s tall but I’m 6’1” so I can see the hood easily.
I have both the lml and l5p. There is no comparison just how nice it is to tow and know that the engine can handle it. Maintenance is what it is. I bought mine used and I AM the warranty. No point in waiting for a shop to fix it. It's a lifestyle I say.
We've had alot of these model GMs at the shop. I am not sure about 35s on stock height. You should honestly just get some better tires in like a 265-285. Upper control arms and really just the front suspension of those trucks are just awful. I would suggest atleast some better aftermarket arms (kyptonite, mazzula, or kibbetech). The next issue with salt on the roads is the paint on the frame. GM uses some bs wax paint on the frames and the salt destroys it. So definitely wash the underside of it as much as possible.
You mentioned owning several Ford Super Duty Diesels. I’m curious if you Test drove an F-250 with a 7.3 gas engine and the 10 speed. What made you choose the GM gasser over the Ford gasser? I’m a Ford guy and will probably lean towards a 7.3 gas on my next F250. That said, I am going to look at the GMC 6.6 gas engine before I buy. Good video. You’re towing about what I tow at a max.
I just picked up a 22’ 7.3 4.30. It’s surprising how low the RPMs can stay driving around town. It lugs itself around low in the RPM range. I have a feeling these 7.3s will be very reliable and also have longevity. The pistons have oil cooling jets on the backside, cast iron block, port injection, 6 bolt main, large spacing between cylinders, NO; direct injection, cylinder deactivate or start/stop, no crazy emissions stuff from DEF heaters to sensors. I don’t see much downtime with these 7.3s. My buddy owns a 6.6 and the valves are apparently coked up really bad from that direct injection system.
@Marco Polio I’m not sure of exact mileage, I believe he said 60k or 80k. They are business trucks and drive all over the Bay Area, so lots of freeway miles. The coking makes sense; oil is being deposited into the intake without any fuel rinsing off the back of the valves… They added sodium into the valves to try to reduce the coking, maybe it reduces it but it’s still happening. Don’t let it be your deciding factor tho. Every manufacturer/power train has its issues. This is one I personally didn’t want to deal with, given other wants I would still get one. I wanted; locking axle and solid front axle which you can only get with Ford (unless you want low payload power wagon). Still cleaning valves is a very lengthy $ process… adding stuff to gas to “clean” won’t work since the fuel never touches the back of the valves.
I’d add a GOOD high quality catch can if I had a direct injection engine. Be sure to regularly drain it. I believe it helps a lot with the coking My buddy uses the same independent mechanic for 10+ years. He doesn’t make stuff up to get a Buck (at least not with my buddys company), as he almost never recommends anything but the standard maintenance when they drop their trucks off. So I believe him when he says there is coking and it needs to be cleaned. I wish GM would just be honest and add it to the maintenance schedule.
design pro for the hood, the wipers sit below the hood line and the wiper blades do not collect bugs in the summer like ford does. that is one thing that bugs me with my ford.
Look at Proven Industries I have used two of the hitch locks and a dozen puck locks for the doors and a magnet GPS tracking device tucked away...they are well built.
I just don't get it my trucks all filthy and dirty driving through the mud and the side fenders look gray it's like the most unexplainable thing LOL wash it and see what happens lol
Should have try 7.3 Godzilla big block that Ford built it. I know you’re not big fan of gas engine but your f450 power stroke down and they cost so much money to fix…..
Sorry dude but after watching this video you just don't know what a good truck is if you think that this new 6.6 gasser is good at towing. I own one of these trucks and its the absolute worst performing truck at towing that I've ever owned. 3.73 axle isn't enough gear ratio. These trucks need a 4.10 or 4.30 gear options.
@@workplaytv Well then we agree to disagree. I just don't like that these 6.6 gassers have almost no power down low below 3k rpms. I don't want to have to rev my truck from 3,500-4,500 all day for towing. Seems like a great way to kill a motor to me but I guess time will tell to see how well they hold up.
@@travis10ist I test drove one before I got the GMC. I didn't like the way the 10 speed trans felt in the Ford and on the test drive the trans was at 217 degrees during normal around town driving. That's way too hot for me. When towing that trans in the ford would probably be around 250 degrees. My 2022 2500 Sierra trans runs at 164 degrees around town driving and pulls a 5,000lb trailer at 168 degrees trans temp. Heat is the root cause of trans failure. It is impossible to overemphasize the ADVANTAGES of the Naturally Aspirated 420 HP 6.2L V8. It is by far the BEST engine available under the hood of a Class 1 truck!
However...the ^^^High Fives^^^ and Kudos to the new Chevrolet 1500 4Wd ZR2 are most definitely TAINTED by the FAILURE of Chevrolet allowing this truck to roll off the assembly line with puny 33 inch tall tires. This truck should have "standard 35 inch tires" and "optional 37 inch tires"......the same sizes available on the new GMC hummer.
Ford's use of the twin turbocharged 3.5L V6 Ecoboost is the very reason I would not purchase any trim level F150 truck. Nothing but reliability and durability issues and problems with this engine platform.
Ford would do VERY WELL introducing a Naturally Aspirated Push Rod V8 for their Class 1 F150 truck line.....especially for the F150 Tremor and F150 Raptor. I would like to see Ford build a 6.5L V8 "Baby Godzilla" engine for F150 trucks! In addition, a 5.8L V8 version would do well in the Bronco!
This truck needs a 10 speed and 4.30 gears…with 10th gear being like a .51 and 9th being a .67
I wish manufacturers would do this so people who want towing performance can also have highway MPG by having the final OD numerically low.
We have the death wobble on our 2012 used f250. Only had it for a year and it just started on on as of now. Really thinking of trading it up for something that isn't a Ford. We live ford but this really did it for my wife who tows horse trailers.
Just remember , that GMC is pulling your gear. And where’s your FORD. Just saying. 😀😀👍👍
The Ford is a broken POS
Love my 2022 gmc 2500 6.6 gas that I picked up in october
I love the Chevrolet silverado 2500hd strictly work truck....... Hated it when it came out but I'm in love with the truck now........6.6 gas, no carpets just mats.......4 door short bed......just a gorgeous truck........Ford has become such a let down for the money they want.....
I got the single cab 20 gmc 2500hd people should see what it can do with a light chassis like a single cab oh yeah no carpet that 6.6 gas is one nice truck!
I test drove the gas & diesel version, both were very nice, i settled on the diesel.. also you can switch the speedo to display digitally on the center display, i never use the needle Guage anymore
Guy I know just picked up 2 Denalis like your setup gas engine wise he said the diesels were so over priced it was crazy. I like these trucks though they are sharp. Plowing Willis be tough given your seat position
Very impressive truck. I got the 2024 6.6 with the 10 speed and it pulled my 22’ shore boat back and fourth to coast and got better mpg than my 6.7 deleted ram. Now the ram is obviously faster doing it and the exhaust rocks blah blah. But still a very impressive ride.
I think the max towing is about 16000lbs or so... that says alot about it that you were happy with it... I have a 2021 3500hd regular cab dually with the gas motor and I love it....I don't tow anything with it but I always wanted a dually so I got one as a daily driver.....
What's your average mpg?
Shouldve got a crew cab

I drive a 21 F350 Dually 6.7 now, but I had a 20 F350 SRW long bed with the 7.3L gasser. I haven’t driven the Chevy 6.6, but that 7.3, with 4:10 rear end, was really amazing. It had a cargo capacity of 4,400 pounds. Like you always say, it wasn’t a diesel, but for a naturally aspirated gas motor, the 7.3 is a really impressive motor. I hope you get to drive one sometime so you can compare it to your Chevy.
Is your F450 in the shop?
Yup it sure is
@@workplaytv what's wrong with it now? 😒
If the truck was for play without any heavy towing, I woulda got a powerwagon with the de-tuned scat pack 6.4 engine
new trucks keep getting better and better for work
Love my 22 Chevy 2500 gasser
Put the bigger tires and wheels and watch her go! the GMCs are a really good truck Had a GMC 6' bed 4wd part-time; pulled a 32' steel 4 horse Merchow fifth wheel trailer .engine was a gas 350ci, 4 speed manual tran.340 axles. it couldnt be beaten pulling it with 4 horses.7 a dressing room.
it was a 1978 model
The work truck with steel wheels is a great look
GM trucks have always handled loads better IMO.
If be interested to see what you think about the AT4 HD. I've got a windshield HUD which eliminates your speedo complaint. My payload also hits right around #4k. I see a fair amount of bouncing but it's only a 3/4 ton axle, right?
To be in a comfortable seating position you cannot see guages on DIC....I have the power seat cuz I knew these seats sit low, and I optioned fir LT with few more features but yeah the seating to steering wheel position is bad as well as the foam in the seats......everything else is great.....just bought my 2nd 2500 (2022 model) and I still love the truck......no matter what you buy there will always be something.......multiple trips to dealer to fix bs on a new truck is not what I want to go thru so I take the lesser of the evils....again was so close to buying a Ram for 4th time (never owned one) and if they had one that fit I probably would have.....
GM has the bigger bed, side steps, and few other things super important to me.....
Probably because diesel engine is heavier than gas engine
There is no such thing as “bed payload”
Hey.... great backup truck...somebody always has to be number 2.... Ha
I run, 305/65/R18 on my AT4 3500, definitely looks proportional to the truck.
been waiting on this one!!
Uh oh! I have a feeling we have a new Chevy loyalist being transformed. 😩
They might as well be the same truck. I hate when people have a bad experience with chevy and then buy a gmc as if they are getting something different.
just curious what you do for a living that requires you to haul all this heavy equipment?
How much miles did you travel that you used half tank of fuel
You definitely need a power adjustable (height) seat to see over that tall hood.
I went from a 20 2500hd sierra slt 6.6 gas to a 21 2500hd silverado high country duramax.....if the 6.6 gas had a 10 speed, it would make a world of difference.
The higher trim models with heads up display makes seeing your speed easier!
I havent tried but a few people say their 2020+ 2500hds fit 35x12.5x20 without a level. I will be trying once my stock tires wear out.
I can confirm that.
2500 hd denali duramax with 35’s no level
Slight rub on full lock though.
Ordered a GMC 3500 srw 6.6 gas couple of weeks ago, who knows when i will get it. Test drive it felt 100% more peppy than a 6.0.
잘보고있습니다.무슨장비를타시는지.차에대해서도궁금하구요
We've had alot of these model GMs at the shop. I am not sure about 35s on stock height. You should honestly just get some better tires in like a 265-285. Upper control arms and really just the front suspension of those trucks are just awful. I would suggest atleast some better aftermarket arms (kyptonite, mazzula, or kibbetech). The next issue with salt on the roads is the paint on the frame. GM uses some bs wax paint on the frames and the salt destroys it. So definitely wash the underside of it as much as possible.
Why were they in the shop?
You scared me! When I saw the title of this video I thought you dumped the F450
🤣🤣🤣
I believe it helps a lot with the coking
My buddy uses the same independent mechanic for 10+ years.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Heck yea I've been waiting for a video like this
Any news on the 450? Can’t wait to hear, I have one being built now. Should be in by Xmas
She sure isn’t in the same league in the looks department as the super duties!
Its funny that my 2022 elantra has a manual seat height adjustment as standard equipment, and a GM 2500 HD does not lol.
I run 34s on my 2017 2500 295/70r18 with stock rims they clear with no rub or no cutting
Put tire shine on those black trim pieces an it will make them black again.
Nice video!
Would you add another chevy or gmc to the fleet
If I had to. I’ll try a Ram next. Only one left

The 7.3 ford embarrasses that 6.6 and it’s a good looking truck compared to GM twins
But it's a Ford. Just look at all the issues with every model in the Ford lineup. It's a plague.

Payload is more because the gas engine weighs a lot less.
Yep
I just don't get it my trucks all filthy and dirty driving through the mud and the side fenders look gray it's like the most unexplainable thing LOL wash it and see what happens lol
I thought it could only tow 15,000

Should have try 7.3 Godzilla big block that Ford built it. I know you’re not big fan of gas engine but your f450 power stroke down and they cost so much money to fix…..
Sorry dude but after watching this video you just don't know what a good truck is if you think that this new 6.6 gasser is good at towing. I own one of these trucks and its the absolute worst performing truck at towing that I've ever owned. 3.73 axle isn't enough gear ratio. These trucks need a 4.10 or 4.30 gear options.
I own lots of other trucks so I have lots to compare to and for a gas truck it holds it own in my opinion
Get Ford 7.3 Godzilla with 4.30 gears, y’all would be a lot happier comparing to Chevy 6.6 gasoline
@@travis10ist would have loved to but none around
@@travis10ist I test drove one before I got the GMC. I didn't like the way the 10 speed trans felt in the Ford and on the test drive the trans was at 217 degrees during normal around town driving. That's way too hot for me. When towing that trans in the ford would probably be around 250 degrees. My 2022 2500 Sierra trans runs at 164 degrees around town driving and pulls a 5,000lb trailer at 168 degrees trans temp. Heat is the root cause of trans failure. I know that Ford says that the 10speeds run hotter but I don't care, I don't trust the long term reliability with a trans running that hot, especially without a trans dipstick to check the fluid under the hood.
The 450 😔
