Question: If Guinans abilitys come from being temporarily in the nexus, wouldn't that mean Picard would have those abilitys as well, since he was in the nexus too?
@@adamantu Good Question. Apparently not because Guinan was being beamed out at a critical moment as she was entering the Nexus, whereas Picard went fully into the nexus. This is according to Ronald D Moore who wrote Star Trek Generations.
@@ThePopcast that makes no sense. Guinean was beamed out and that gave her powers? But guinan was still in the nexus, she spoke to Picard in there.. she told him he could leave if he wanted and a part of him would be left behind.. so guinan got the powers because she was ripped from the event rather than choosing to leave? Why? and that means Q met Guinan after the nexus event then?
It has something to do with the NEXUS. Someone uses it to yank her around. She becomes aware of it sometimes. Q is long lived as Guinen is. So they must be long time foes. Q is a "bad" Q but now and then are imposed into situations by good Q. It helps him but eventually flips back quickly to usual ornery troublemaking Q. He and Guinen have been aware of each other. Guinen knows his actions are never benevolent. So she never trusts him. He knows this and is fearful as he is suspicious of her purpose. It's a good story line. Anxious for it to play out. Hopefully Q finally mends his ways. He once actually played a great part as a war hero and in love. Don't recall the end, but it fell into reality again and he was the old Q. There were other instances in their pasts that pop up. Would have liked to know Rodenberry's plan. Loved all of the shows.
According to Picard season 2 episode 9, Q makes a remark "I always hated that about your species." So her abilities are not just due to the Nexus, her race had this awareness. There is also a truce I believe between her race and the Q. A deeper exploration of her race or another character from her race would be intriguing if written correctly.
Actually they dropped the clues a while ago. Guinan is not only an El-Aurian, but she is almost ageless and partially telepathic when she can sense things that aren't right or downright dangerous like Q or the Enterprise-C entering the same timeline and everything changed from Exploration to Warship. On the episode of Mark Twain, that was in the 1890s range, Guinan is the same appearance as her future self and she carried her knowledge all the way into the future when she talked with the crew about where they must go.
I think Guinan's ability to perceive the 4th dimension makes her immune to the powers of the Q, which are 4th dimensional beings. Q can do whatever he wants to anyone else and they are powerless to stop him because they physically can't perceive what Q is doing, but Guinan can.
@@kel8923 The existence of the Q goes back at least four billion years. In his early days, Q traveled to his future and watched an episode of the View. It was then that Q realized he was only an actor in a successful science fiction series.
Sadly that’s how a lot of UA-cam channels work. Clickbait long videos cuz it’s what UA-cam wants. I don’t fault UA-camrs for doing it because if they don’t, their channels fail as does their job.
I have always thought she was part of an alien race with similar abilities as Q but were in the opposition. While at the same time her race have not reached the "higher plain" (the continum) and were on the cusp of doing so. In terms of opposition; break illusions or manipulations of reality, is unaffected by direct changes, can sense changes, remove manifestations, and is fully aware the costs of manipulations (in terms of energy or damage, ect). I think the latter deals with making all Q's deal with costs. Of you think about it costs is what the devil is known for in terms of "getting" what you want. That is why she isn't running around causing direct problems because her powers deal with setting things back to natural order and with any manipulation turned back on the person doing it.
Q owes her alimony and that is the source of her perception. Her powers were granted so she would be able to find q and get her alimony on time. I meant that as a joke but i am scared they will actually use that as a plot.
Yes, there are several theories out there about her race almost ascending and that giving them almost Q like powers. We weren't sure what the answer was until we learned that her "6th sense" was going to be revealed in Generations that she got it from the Nexus. How cool would it be for her whole race to be like her though? Thanks!
I always thought her race was the ones who built the energy barriers around the galaxy. She knows something "else" is out there and are silent protectors. The Q are just pissed at the elalurians for keeping them prisoner, not knowing what guinan's race knows.
@@ThePopcast - she encountered Q before the Nexus though. Her run-in with Q was during the NX-01 era before her people were assimilated by the Borg. So she must have had some kind of power before the Nexus to have been able to annoy Q so much... That or she just punched him out like Sisko did...
I always thought she belonged to a race of psychics that had tangled with the Q and the rest of his clan in the past, and somehow managed to outsmart them.
There's only one race that has fought the Q and that happened about 5 billion years ago in the past. The very same race that spawned all life in the multiverse, the race itself that I am talking is or are known as the "Ancient Humanoids", they were only mentioned briefly in the 1960ies.. This race existed throughout the entire universe and they found out that there was nothing like them, no races at all, no life, no sentient life. And then puff the Q appeared and killed them off. So in other words, the Q are not from the begin of the universe but they are rather from the end of the universe and traveled back in time. We also know that the Starfleet still exists by the time of 30.000AD in the future, and humans by then have evolved to become energy or break the 5th wall, like the Q... if anything humanity has been playing itself or may have corrupted themselves or came from an alternated timeline or are not even aware..
@Madoliteyes and this is why vulcans and romulans are close cousins whom they thought for thousands of years that romulans had been kidnapped from Vulcan planet and brought to the Romulus planet. And that's how they found out that they were in fact all descendant from the same race that spawned life in the entire universe 5 billion years ago.
"What happened to all the people in 10 Forward who were there only moments before? Why were they gone but Guinan was still there?" My question is: "Why did she pop up from behind the bar? Was she just laying on the floor until someone came in and needed a drink?
Because she keeps the good Saurian Brandy on the bottom shelf, in the back, behind the cheap Andorian Ale, so it doesn't go missing. Either that, or she dropped a hair-pin and her hat was in danger of falling off.
Every tv and movie bar tender lives in a micro apartment right underneath the triple sec the crushed ice. The view is lacking, but you'd be surprised about the square footage.
It is also shown in "Q Who" that she has an office outside of Ten Forward. It isn't exactly a leap within the same episode to think "oh yeah, maybe she was in her office" when the crew in the lounge vanished. Or in her quarters. If you sense bad juju going on where you work but you're not there, you might want to see what's happening. I think ultimately the reason this video fails is that it attempts to lull the viewer into thinking research was done. But preposterous nonsense gets in the way to burn more run time. There were lots of possible topics to cover, but he chose the one that said nothing.
I think Guinan in particular may be a what in some fictions is called a Single Point Being, i.e. there is only one Guinan in *all* realities. Q manipulates reality by altering it, and if the actual mechanics are that he’s swapping realities on a micro level (swapping a full room for an empty one), it could be that the reason Guinan isn't affected is because due to her own powers and connection to the Nexus she is anchored to the main reality only. And even when Q manages to do something drastic like change the Enterprise entirely she still knows that reality has been swapped. My other idea is that for every Q there is a kind of anti-Q, a super stable being to their super chaotic existence. Guinan is our Q's anti-Q
I don't know if there is only "one" Guinan, but they seem psychically linked, at least a little. That would explain how Guinan senses that a particular timeline is wrong (I forgot the name of the episode, the one with the Enterprise C and Tasha's brief return). It was also, kinda, explain how Guinan is both inside and outside the Nexus. But this is betrayed by her own words, that in the Nexus she is just an "echo". (Of course nothing about the Nexus makes sense: it's supposed to be a heaven-like environment "like being inside joy" and yet Picard becomes disenchanted within a few minutes, Kirk within an hour (depending on how long they were riding horses. If Guinan and Soren were ever in the Nexus in the first place, how did they get pulled out, etc.?)
That was what I always... almost always expected Guinan to be. She is 'setting things right'' in the smallest ways. You can call that wisdom but what if it's what she is, a being to correct mistakes before they happen or spin out of control. To preserve the timeline. And yes that would effectively make her an anti-Q. I doubt if it's by design though. She did not prevent humans from finding the Borg and if one Q-induced-event messed up things it was meeting the Borg for the first time. Even Guinan has trouble with the Borg so if there was one thing she would have prevented...... But then again, we would have missed a great enemy. Somehow human thrive on a good enemy. (digressing here so I quit this 'rant.)
RE: Guinan's line about needing "Earl Gray hot" appeared to be her acknowledging Picard's presence in the room prior to turning around and greeting him, rather than the assumption that she was referring to needing the beverage for herself.
Ikr? For a channel that thinks they have it all figured out, that was so obviously NOT a joke, but she putting in the order for Picard who will be there in moments. And for THAT reason, I just quit the vid! Lol!
@@emdee7744 It was a joke... she didn't actually order or get the tea. She saw him in the mirror and said it so he could hear. How dense are you? Did you even watch the actual scene?
When I was in So Cal for work for a while I had the same chiropractor as John DeLancie. Since I don't believe in bothering celebrated people in public, we never even exchanged hellos, but I've been "adjusted" right next to him. Seriously tall man :)
I always figured Guinan was at least somewhat immune to Q's powers. The idea that she got this ability from the nexus is one I hadn't heard before, but I love it!
Would explain how she was unaware of everything in the past episode on earth but later gained it. Makes me wonder if the “anomaly” with the Enterprise C was created as a test for Picard to see if he would be able to correct it. If the Nexus is fake I wouldn’t mind spending the afterlife there.
@@brandontravis5896 not sure. maybe they're different because Picard left the Nexus willingly but Guinan was "ripped" out but left part of herself in there.
I like the theory she made a deal with Q, like for sparing her people from the Borg. And while she may not have gotten exactly what she wanted she outsmarted him in some way and that resulted in her getting powers. Kind of like out smarting the devil in making a deal.
It does seem like she can potentially outsmart a Q, from her previous encounters. Far more to her than what is explained. Puzzling why Q appears either concerned or afraid of her. She has mind powers or a unique mind ability perhaps? Likely not Q powers. Hope they explain this or it will remain one of the great mysteries.
@@ThePopcast It's almost funny that in the series Finale of Star Trek: TNG Picard was traveling back and fourth through time and in his old makeup at least compared to his look in the new series Picard actually looks younger on the TNG finale albeit he was made up to look many years older! And of course Patrick Stewart has gained a few pounds and it is very noticeable in the series Picard. And I'm only guessing the events or least part of the timeline in the TNG finale takes place after the events of Picard?!🤔
@@ThePopcast Also Worf we know very little about his backstory and why he almost never smiles? I think there was only one episode we he actually does smile and it's in the final scene of one episode! 🤔
6:00 In Q Who, while it's only a few minutes for us, Picard was missing from the ship for some time (hours), which is why 10 Forward had people in it earlier, then there wasn't anyone there when Q returned with Picard. It wasn't from Q using his powers or anything like that. Notice that the room is slightly darker than before as well.
Interesting fact: That hand gesture that Guinan made at Q when encountering him in Ten Forward in the episode "Q Who?" is not fictional, it's a Sanskrit hand gesture called a mudra. The one she did is called the karana, and it wards off evil energies. I guess she felt Q brings bad vibes :)
I'm thinking, from what you've proposed, that Guinan, since being in the Nexus, has a permanent link to her 'echo' that resides in the Nexus, where time/space do not exist. By connecting to her echo, Q cannot remove her from the bar, nor anywhere else, while changing her garb and surroundings. When not connected to her echo, perhaps her echo is calling out to her through that connection saying 'something isn't right' in regards to her ability to be semi-aware.
In "Q, who", Guinan said the Borg were responsible for scattering her people. When she says "Q don't" it was because things were playing out a very similar experience she had. I always thought maybe Q put her people on trial too, and brought the Borg to them. Guinan was more terrified of the Borg than she was of Q.
It seems Guinan knew what Q was about to do. The Borg were already on their way to earth, Q merely accelerated first contact with the Borg. In Enterprise the Borg sent a message to the Delta quadrant and they were well on their way to Earth. One cube. So maybe Q did humanity a solid? Guinan was unaware of that altruistic motivation. Now for her powers, she has something. Not just a sense of time. A woman with a sense of time? IMPOSSIBLE! All joking aside, the Nexus thing may be A power, but if she was going to square off with Q, its mot THE power.
@@rodx5571 yes it is interesting that you bring all of this up because I have discussed with people the fact that it's very possible that the John de Lancie Q was actually trying to influence lesser civilizations and that's part of why the other Q in the Continuum punished him and censored him and called him a rebel
@@rodx5571 True. But at the time the episode aired, the writers had not even thought of Enterprise yet. So I am viewing it from that point in real life. I am asking myself "What were the writers trying to tell us?"
15 minutes for no real answer? Come on. What a dishonest title and click bait title. You could have told this video in half the time and nothing of value would have been lost.
Guinan is a Time Lord. People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff.
Well thought out. I totally missed the 10 forward scene where she was left un touched while the rest were removed...i mean I saw it but didn't SEE it. I like where your going tho.
Aurora, we are totally with you. We didn't really ever SEE it until we started working on this and we realized wow that was weird and there must have been a reason. Great comment!
There was nobody in ten forward because the crew was at red alert due to the fact that the captain of the ship had disappeared. You don't hang around in the lounge during an emergency
In spite of all that, she could not stop Q from doing anything he wanted to do and nothing he did in that episode was an illusion. It was real and all She could advise Picard to do was run, after admitting that the Borg had destroyed her people. One theory have is that she’s somehow off limits to Q perhaps by the Continuum itself.
What an interesting theory. Maybe Q was toying with her people (long ago because Quinan "wasn't there personally....") the way he toys with humanity and exposed them to the Borg as well if they rejected his "offer of help"
That theory goes against what was established on TNG, DS9, VOY. The Q are in a sense "Self-appointed?" guardians in the Universe. Q (DeLancie) acted like a Trickster, and harassed others, but was still a true Q.
@@takerdust And he also flung the Enterprise right into the sights of the Borg to teach them a lesson. My thought process follows that concept of "what if Enterprise wasn't the first time he decided to fling an exploratory crew to teach them a lesson about getting in over their heads?"
@@TheoRae8289 Q exposed the Enterprise to the Borg so the Federation could be prepared later. Picard mentioned this to Guinan at the end of the episode. Q's trickster games usually was tied to Q indirectly aiding humanity in his own way, or him doing something at the behest of the continuum.
Id like to know a little more about Guinan.. Q, just like a spoilt child that he is, needs to be put in his place yet again, but I love the character to bits so nothing to horrible or harsh
@@2bituser569 .. I remember, and another who had incredible power and destroyed an entire race on every planet everywhere in the galaxy all in a single thought. "The Survivors" E3S3
So true, and that is the essence of most sci-fi writing. The writers write themselves into one very entertaining but unexplainable situation after another and conveniently write themselves out of it with a doodle of the pen. The same goes for magic fiction (i.e. Harry Potter). Eventually, it gets boring and even unwatchable.
I saw John Delance at a Star Trek con at a hotel in Memphis in 1992. He said the entire scene in Q Who" where he & Goldberg "meet" and their feud was 100% improv. It was never supposed to be cannon. He said the writers were strict about such things, but liked what they did and kept it.
I never understood, and still don't, how IF her race is so advanced almost to Q level, they could be assimilated by the Borg. Makes no sense. If anyone has any ideas, enlighten me please.
Hi Silas, we go through it in the video, but Guinan's race isn't like Guinan. Yes they are old, but she got her ability from the Nexus accident. It's really super interesting. Hope that helps!
@@brianwhiting3280 they were vulnerable because 8472s immune system was so evolved it was capable of destroying nanoprobes before they could do anything. Same holds true for their ships.
I like to think that they were at one time the same race where 2 factions took very different paths when faced with omnipotence. Q and the Continuum chose to be gods where as Guinan and the El-Aurians chose to be seers and advisors while placing limitations on their powers.
I like this because in Star Trek they always showed a balance etc when it came to space. This would be no different. Even in the video they did the same hand gestures to each other when they were challenging each other
exactly what I was saying on twitter. Sort of like the Ori and Ancients in Stargate - originally the same race, but fundamentally different ideals as to how power should be used. The Q interfere and play god (Ori) while the El-Aurians are "a race of listeners. We Listen". Of course this all falls apart when you consider how easily Picard took down Soran. If he had any kind of Q level powers, surely he could have handled a couple of old humans trying to kick his arse.
Q's contact with the enterprise d crew was always some of my favorite episodes. Also I truly loved the episodes of all causality missions, and the episode Genesis, when all the crew started devolving as the result of the lieutenant barkley strain.
I'd like to think there is more to what Q is doing than him just being a jerk. Especially since he experienced some character growth in Voyager and seemed to be moving away from outright interference in mortal affairs.
Ive thought for a while that everything q did had a purpose. He does have godlike intelligence after a while. So maybe if the borg hadnt met the federation when they did theyd have conqueres and advanced a lot more before they did. So by the time they do there is no hope of defeating them
I thought that was going to be the moral of the season. Picard feels guilty about the lives lost because his actions made Q send them to meet the Borg, but in the end, Q shows Picard that those lives lost gave Starfleet the time it needed to be prepared.
@@cdreid9999 Also: The Borg were already aware of the Federation, they were destroying outsiders posts and before they had the Hansons assimilated. And it seems as if in some inner circles of Starfleet they knew about the Borg - or why would the Hansons have gone to the Delta Quadrant in the first place? And now let's count a bit together: The Enterprise B rescued a bunch of El-Aurian refugees. Nobody can make me believe, that at least Section 36 wouldn't have interrogated the refugees afterwards - and while I guess that Guinan stayed silent - but maybe not (see below) (and Soran was only focussed on the Nexus), there must have been El-Aurians, who've told the federation, Section 36 or others, from WHOM they have fled. To warn the federation for example. But there were two problems in 2393: 1. the Khitomer protocols prohibited Starfleet to build real war ships. And you don't want to tell the Klingons to tell about the Borg - I mean, they might be so foolish to try to attack the Borg. Also it seems as in 2393 the Borg hadn't yet gained the ability to do Transwarp - so the Federation was not in immediate danger. A travel from Borg Space to Earth would at least have taken 10 to 40 years - and the Borg weren't aware of the Humans until the Hansons. Guess when the attacks on the colonies started? In 2363 - 10 years after the Hansons got assimilated. So in 2393 the best for the federation to do was to stay silent. 2. There was a mentality on earth, tampered because of 30 years of peace, to never build warships again. Kirk complains about it in the start of the novel for Star Trek Motion Pictures and you can also see it in how the federation acts at the end of the century: The politics were dominated by hippies, who would rather risk the federation than go to war. Especially not a war 20.000 light years away. They had to produce the Warships in secret. Nobody can tell me, that it only took 5 years from 2365 to 2370 to come up with not only the Defiant, but also the Sovereign, the Akira etc. And to have a good amount of ships ready in 2373, especially to have a Sovereign 100% finished in building so that when the D was destroyed they could on the spot give Picard a new flag ship. We all know, the A was only a renamed older ship that was taken because the Excelsior Class was still in testing, originally Starfleet had planned to have the A be an Excelsior already, and the Sovereign will most likely have been in production for at least 5 years in 2373. I would say, that a part of Starfleet secretly was planning on these technologies like Quantum torpedos (don't forget, they used simple Antimatter Torpedoes since the 2100s, so they really needed an upgrade), rapid impulse phasers etc. but didn't got much funding because of the Hippies in the Admirality. Also, you had this "small" conspiracy in 2363 and most likely beforehand, which might have hindered them also. Only when the normal captain like Picard became aware of the existence of the Borg, which most likely will have spread like a Wildfire through Starfleet, and after Wolf 359 this group got huge fundings. They might have not money in that time - but you still need resources for science and building ships. It's also quite interesting, that they have already Ltnt. Comm. Shelby who is highly educated on the Borg - How? From the few scans of the Enterprise D one year ago? More likely from the probes the Hansons left behind to get found by Starfleet. They know MUCH MORE than Picard or Riker, that's also why Shelby knows better tactics to use the Enterprise D to fight the Borg. But all the Starfleet tactics have one major problem: These damn families on board! This hippie idea that made the Enterprise D more of a Cruise Liner than of a Battle Cruiser. How could the officers risk ALL they can to save the federation, when they have always in mind, that their families are on board the ship too? Imagine the soldiers of the world wars, Korea, Vietnam etc. would have brought their wives and children with them to the front line... that's absolutely madness. Nice idea for a ship where they make trips between Vulcan, Andoria and Earth - but insane for "front of the line" vessels. They lost at least 500 civilians on the Galaxy class just by the fact, that the Yamato and another Galaxy ship got destroyed, we don't even want to talk about all the civilians on the 39 destroyed ships at Wolf 359, and the only reason, the civilians on the Odyssey weren't killed was that they were on DS9, when the ship got destroyed with the minimum crew on board. Now let's come to typical tactics of the military to deal with overtly hippie governments: they disguise what they really plan. Imagine this: they pushed so many credits in building Galaxy class ships, the hippie dream of the "we are all a big galaxy family". But they only finished 6 of the 12 prebuild vessels, the Galaxy, the Yamato, the Enterprise, the Odyssey, the Challenger and the Venture. The others were only partially finished - for what you might ask. I tell you my theory: For being put into action as real war ships in case the Borg invade. That's why they also made them TWO battleships in disguise - no other ship before had a battle bridge. Why? Because you don't win against the Borg with traditional ship of the line tactics, but only with swarm tactics and the more "smaller" vessels you have the better. Perhabs Guinan even knew about the plan, who knows, perhabs she had told the Federation what was going to happen and was on the Enterprise to explain to Picard in the end, what he should do then. She is quite high ranking in her security rights for only being a "bar tender". So perhabs her "Q, no" wasn't because she knew the dangers the Enterprise would face alone against the Borg. But perhabs because Q made a big mistake: He made the Borg aware of the Existence of the Galaxy class! The class was in 2364 under high scrutiny, only the most important captains knew about the ships, and especially none of the colonists that were assimilated in 2363 or 2364 would have known about the Enterprise, Galaxy etc. But because Q showed the Borg the Enterprise D, the Borg were able to see: "damn, they have the capacity now to go against us. Not this nice Ambassador class ships, not this small Mirandas - no, this ship is a real thread." So they decided to now really go against the Federation as fast as possible. And it seems as in that time they hadn't gotten Transwarp yet, so it took them one year. Also most likely they might have gotten the Message send out by the Borg in 2153, that will have warned them of "Picard". So one of their goals became to get rid of that Picard - by assimilating him. I mean, why him? Wouldn't you try to attack the ship of an admiral and assimilate him instead? No, the Borg knew from the fractured message, that Picard was a danger - they just didn't knew that his whole crew was capable of fighting them. They should have destroyed the Enterprise, when the ship was trying to hide, but instead they only captured Picard and went on. And why didn't Starfleet send out their Galaxy-Class ships to Wolf 359? Why only old ships, most of them with no families on board? Because the Borg were to fast for them to disembark the families in the Galaxy class ships to nearby space stations and then head on to Wolf 359 or Earth! And their six Galaxy class ships in preparation weren't ready - because they would have to fit the weapons on them first. The Enterprise crew decided to risk the lives of the families on board, but well, Riker and Co. were all without family on board, so it seems they didn't cared much in that heated moment. And they had no space station to abandon the civilians anyway, because they had to follow the cube. And their honor to save the captain was on the line. So in the end Q might have not even warned Starfleet of the Borg - but the Borg of Starfleet and only luck and really crazy ideas by Riker and Shelby saved the day. Who knows, what Q was thinking there. Perhabs he saw that the tactic to make Starfleet a real military again wouldn't work if people like Picard would still believe, that their only mission is to bring peace and knowledge to the Galaxy. Picard might have been a good tactician - but his mind was quite hippie himself in the first seasons, before he realized what REAL threads lie ahead. Perhabs Q thought: "The Federation needs a shock moment to wake up from the dreams." And the federation got it - latestly with Wolf 359
@@JJ-fq4nl Thank you. By the way, the reason Jake was on Board at Wolf 359 wasn't because that ship had families on board. Of course a Miranda class wouldn't have. But both his parents were enlisted crewmembers of the ship, so they took Jake with them, instead of leaving him at his grandparents place. I'll bet he was one of the few kids on board that vessel, I mean, it's a Miranda-Class vessel, they most likely didn't even had a school on board. Oh and the Treaty of Khitomer is most likely responsible for the fact that Starfleet as well as the Klingons mostly use classes of ships that were invented BEFORE the treaty: they were forbidden, without the acceptance of the other side, to build new ship classes. So nothing newer than an Excelsior-class. The ambassador was perhabs passed through by a side agreement and about the Galaxy the Klingons will most likely only have laughted. The captains most likely said to each other: "look, the cruise liner is coming" when the Enterprise D arrived. They on the other side just made their existing classes bigger to circumvent the treaty restrictions.
Very informative. Loved the continued mysteries. I have always found her character so creatively perfect for the Next Generation. The fact that she could appear again at different times made it more exciting. Thanks for the details.
I was thrilled with Guinean from the beginning and will be regardless of the outcome. I look forward to what's too come especially with John de'Lancie. I love both characters.
My thought is that Q can, in fact, affect Guinan, but that something about her causes doing so to cost him an enormous amount of power, such that it would leave him vulnerable to attack, due to low/drained power levels. He wouldn't dare mess with her too much, because it's likely happened before and he barely got out of the situation. Further, this explains why he'd been surprised by her presence. If his powers are drastically less effective against her, it stands to reason that his ability to detect her would also be diminished.
That makes no sense for the simple fact in "Q Who", she admits that her species was wiped-out by the Borg, so youre trying to say the Borg have these abilities too, since they assimilated her species? Also, if Guinan is so special, what would the power of an entire planet of Guinans be like? Clearly not as powerful as the Borg, which gives Q zero troubles. Also, Qs dont need to live on a planet.
@@staryoke You're reading into it something that isn't there. I never said it was the El-Aurians who had the ability. It's HER ability. I also said exactly nothing about Qs having to live on a planet. Literally nothing.
@@antonsimmons8519 I know you didnt say anything about Q living on a planet. Thats my point - any being that requires a corporeal body or existence to live, is not going to be on the same evolutionary ladder as a being that doesnt require it (Q). Simply put, if you require a physical body made up of atoms to exist, you'll never be on the same power dynamic as Q - hence your power comparison of Q to Guinan doesnt make logical sense. Also, stating that Q using power may weaken him or leave him vulnerable is thinking stuck inside the box of conventional energy / power conservation theories, which again wouldnt apply to Q.
So what was she doing with her hands up when her and Q and Picard were in Ten Forward? That looked like she was at least going to have some protection against him or an offensive power to use against him, I would think.
Well at least you got some kind of answer now about her hands with Season 2 of Picard. It had something to do with reminding him of the treaty between their races and/or something to do with the ability to actually summon or control a Q. As in she was about to summon another Q to stop him from harming her or maybe keep him in check due the treaty between her and his race.
Guinan's people were powerless against the Borg. The Borg are nothing to the Q, and they could annihilate them all at will. So where is the logic to think that Guinan has some power she could use against Q? Tolian Soran went through the Nexus too, and he got his ass kicked by Kirk and ultimately killed by Picard who sabotaged his launch platform. I'm sorry, but these are not beings who could stand toe-to-toe with a nearly omnipotent entity such as Q. To be sure, Q is annoyed by her, by scared? I don't think so.
My personal headcanon is that guinan in particular has learned lots of little tricks over time because she's lived a long time and is well travelled. The Q claim to be omnipotent, but we only have their word on that. What if there are ways to counter their powers that anyone could learn with time and effort?
"Time's Arrow" was one of my FAVORITE episodes. And, I would rather see Q and Guinan make up. so we can figure out why they've been adversaries for so long.
I've always thought guinan was less a mystery more an encryption. She's a paradox living both and neither in and out of time but not a single point or timeline. More like every point and no line. The nexus could explain it but doesnt seem quite large enough to satisfy. But hey the hard science here is that it's a tv show and the "truth" is whatever it's written to be.
In my mind Q is actually the advocate for the human race and the Trek cultural in general. Through his actions, he proves time and time again that the Terran's and the culture that they are involved in with other species are worthwhile and deserving of respect because of their commitment to higher values. A trial of fire for sure, but the best evidence for consideration in the results.
It was established in TNG that Guinan's people were scattered because of the Borg. I have a headcanon that when Enterprise B rescues some of her people, those ships had escaped the Borg. Whether or not directly from her planet or they were already away. That being said, I always assumed Q had introduced the Borg to her people on purpose or accidentally.
I always thought that too. Guinan seemed to know the danger pretty well of where Q flung the Enterprise. It was probably similar to what Q had done to the Ellurians. Then I remember Q telling his son to never provoke the Borg. So that suggests the Borg can have some effect on the Q. And if that’s the case, why would Q shoot the Enterprise in the path of that one cube? Isn’t that considered provoking ?
@@jlomesou as for Q purposely introducing the Enterprise to the Borg, I have 2 ideas about that. Whenever a Q encounters a new species, there is an attempt to determine if this species would be able to defeat the Borg or at least severely keep them in check. Q's attempt with Guinan's people failed. He saw more potential in humans and by extension the Federation/Starfleet because of his interactions with Picard & company. My second idea is he had knowledge that the Borg would eventually make it to the alpha quadrant. He realized that when that happened the alpha quadrant, and more specifically humanity, would be completely unprepared. By introducing them early to the Borg they were able to start learning how the Borg acted and how to defend against them.
Q "introduced" the Borg to the El-Aurians in a similar fashion as he did with the Enterprise around the time that Generations starts (with Kirk). The Borg assimilate nearly all the El-Aurians . That's how she knows what Q's about to do with the Enterprise and why she hates Q. One theory I've heard is that the Continuum felt threatened by the El-Aurians age and progress as a species and sicked the Borg on them to keep them from becoming true rivals. That's why Q hates Guinan, and any other El-Aurian.
Interesting. But if Guinan's people were that powerful, why does she scare Q? If she's so powerful, her people should have been able to fend off the Borg.
Why would the Q feel threatened by another advance race of beings? Over the course of the Star Trek series, there were other beings on a similar level as the Q such as the dude who destroyed an entire species without the galaxy with a single thought just because they attacked the planet on which he was living and killed his human wife.
could it be that guinan is a being that exists in all possible timelines at the same time, and thereby notices when Q creates a new fork in the timelines through his actions.
Exactly. Being trapped in the nexxus she has infinate wisdom and knowledge of all timelines and realities. Since a screws around she knows of his ending how tragic she can make it....she still exists in time and space with her image now with Picard is an echo with her be bopping around the nexxus in altered. Form......heck kick still exists there too
@ger traba WHAT IF Guinan is STILL trapped in the Nexus, and nothing is real, and the entire series and all related material is just Guinan’s hallucinations?
Even like Kelpien race, I think Guinan is from a race that evolves over time and she was able as a survival to gain those powers in time, powers that over-reach Qs power, but is limited to use them (like Federations Prime Directives)... like a cosmic being that guards the flow of universe?
Long comment, but I believe a more plausible theory of Guinan & Q: See now, I disagree with your interpretation. It makes better sense that Guinan & Q could or would be off shoots of the same original race. Q's off shoot pursuing & achieving the more narcissistic, presumingly ever living omnipotent path while Guinan's off shoot chose just a considerably longer lived lives, say 1000 years average life expectancy for instance. They would both have very similar comprehensions of time, matter, & space because of course the base sciences would be very similar, & where as Q's society more plays like a spoiled children. Guinan's society explores interacts, experiences & respects the various aspects of existence. Ie: Guinan going to Earth to explore & be apart of such a young society. As far as the Nexis, of course something like the Nexis would, for someone of Guinan's society, infinitely heighten her ability to sense all of the various aspects & of course changes of existence. So time path of progression: Guinan met Picard on earth in the past, experienced the Nexis *(got her senses & abilities heightened by the Nexis)*, ran into that Q, & other Q's, was less effected by Q's games, able to either see or even just intuitively feel through them, probably foiled more then one of Q's games, & then they met again during TNG. Guinan by then of course being all to familiar to the experience of Q's presence, or even close enough proximity.
Her encounter with Q was in the 22nd century (NX-01 era) and her encounter with the Nexus was late 23rd century (TMP era) so her Nexus abilities can't be what he's worried about. She gives a timeline for the Q encounter in Q, Who when explaining how she knows him to Picard.
@@TheC.O.-VISIT No, her race could have been wiped out by the Borg, if their off shoot remained limited to physical form & not just energy, easily changing hysical form at will like Q, which they obviously did. Hence how Guinan has a father.
Guinan exists in a reality that is slightly out of phase with our own where "time" passes differently. This is why she is "so old" relative to our own timeline. It is also why Q can't hurt/affect her. During the series, we learned it wasn't Guinan *specifically* who Q fears but **her entire race**. A race with the power to detect Q's mischef/presence/timeline alterations, and there's nothing he can do about it. BTW: The video says that the episode where The Federation finds itself at war is "in the future", but it's not. It's an alternate timeline Q created by changing the past.
If she got her power from being in the Nexus it would mean her past experiences with Q would have been after she was transported out. The dialog in Q Who contradicts it as when Picard asks if she knew Q she says "we have had some dealings" and Q replies "those dealings were 2 centuries ago". The events in Generations involving the Enterprise B was in the year 2293 but Q Who was in 2365 only 72 years later. Plus Q maybe a pain in the ass in the way he does things but aside from that what he does is ultimately beneficial, Q Who gave the Federation a heads up on the Borg, gave then preparation time and ultimately led to the Borg failing to assimilate the Federation in Bobw pt1 and 2. Right now the Federation is in a pretty dark place relative to how it was during the TNG era so it would not surprise me in the least if this was Q's typically convoluted way (as with Q Who and All Good things) of pissing people off while putting things back on track. Oh and the reason she did not notice anything during the events in Times arrow 1 and 2 is likely because it was supposed to happen, it was part of her timeline and how she first met Picard etc.
@Tejesh Patel okay then you're saying it's a "metaverse "meta temporal verse"," so in her universe time period and temporal location shit now I'm confused cuz I'm too high I can't finish that sentence but if anybody can help me please 🤣🤣🤣🤣... In all seriousness I wish Whoopi Goldberg was more like her characters but no in reality she's got to be a jackass and it makes me sorry that she's in the movies and shows that she is it would be nice if she could be who she is in real life like she is in the movies. Whoopi Goldberg should probably re-examine her mind and personality because she sucks right now!
He seems to have a similar respect for Kathryn Janeway, and it was Admiral Janeway, who destroyed the Borg: "I guess it was something you assimilated."
I always thought of guinan being almost 2,000 years old before she met picard the 1st time, If she was only about 100 then, she would have left the Delta quadrant el-Aurian homeworld when was was very very young, and then gone back there. Pretty sure she had travelled some of the galaxy before that, not unless it was a member of the Q who had transported her around the galaxy.
@@paultallis5852 I thought I had heard, that Guinan was a little over 900 years old, when she tended bar on Enterprise. Assuming this was around 2350, this would have made her around 460 years old, when she was in San Francisco. She apparently was a young woman, for her species; old enough to be on her own, and to have made a fortune, some way; but still somewhat, under her Father's thumb (at least, HE thought so). So, in Earth terms, I would say that she was about 25-30, at that time; and about 60-65, on Enterprise. Considering too, that her home world had been "assimilated" by the Borg, in the meantime; she may have had to "grow up" sooner. Maybe, this is irrelevant; because Star Trek, long ago; threw all the Laws of Physics, Evolution, Time, etc.; into the dumpster. I could "logically" shoot down many Star Trek concepts, in a thousand different ways; and while these are interesting speculations; halfway across the Universe, four Hydrogen atoms still are required to make one atom of Helium (the difference in weight, is the energy released), and Evolution tends to reward the most efficient species; the way every species is equipped, is based on the most efficient means of survival.
Yoda also made similar gestures during duel with Darth Sidious in SW Ep 3. Well Guinan is Q's nemesis obviously, it's just like she's the Yin and Q is the Yang.
Guinan and Q are two of my favorite Star Trek characters. I love Whoopi and John and can't wait to see how this story resolves this, I've always had so many questions about both species. If I had a wish list of favorite characters in the Star Trek universe together, last year's Jeri Ryan's reprisal 7of9 rocked! I also love all the new members we were introduced to last year. One story I'd love to have a follow up is Wesley and his experience with the Traveler. He always seemed like a human prodigy or humanity's next evolution. Is there a story where his journey turns out to save the Federation?
It could be argued, that in a way, Picard is much older than he is. He has two other lives lived in his memory. First living a lifetime in the episode, Inner Light and second carrying the memories and experiences of Sarak to draw upon. He has the wisdom of centuries to draw upon.
Yes thank you Brett. This is 100% my fault (Shane). When voicing the script, I adlibbed the end of that line. I have been rewatching Enterprise lately and it must have slipped in on accident. I am suprised no one caught it before it was released! Great catch and thank you for letting people know. We will attempt to fix it on our end. :)
The only problem with the Nexus theory is that Guinan encountered the Nexus in 2293, about 70 years prior to TNG. In "Q, Who" she says her previous dealings with Q were 2 centuries earlier, which would have been around the time of the NX-01. So if her powers came from the Nexus and her encounter with Q was prior to that he'd have no reason to be wary of her. Plus, none of the other El-Aurian refugees that were beamed out of the Nexus appear to gain abilities because of it. And Picard and Kirk don't gain similar abilities on leaving it in Generations. What if her powers are a result of the events in Time's Arrow? She does get knocked unconscious in the cavern where the temporal rift is when the explosion causes Data to lose his head. She may have absorbed some kind of temporal energy from the explosion.
Maybe Kirk and Picard did not have time to develop the ability. While Guinean by Picard’s time would have been rescued from the nexus almost 100 years prior.
What if Guinan's people acquired the knowledge over time from their long lives on how to control the Q, maybe even to the point of making them genies of a sort. Maybe then somehow the Q fought back, brought on the borg, and scattered their people so they would not be a threat to the continuum any longer. In season 2 of Picard we saw that a younger Guinan knew how to summon Q with a creepy ritual, so I think this theory has some merit! ^-^
Wasn’t it like that if you would enter the Nexus once, you would , from that moment on, always exist there? And with the ability to reach out to every place in time and space you could also be at any point in time and space at the same time? With that, and by being safe from time and space as an eternal being in the Nexus, you could journey out without ever fearing death or basically an end to your existence. That would make you just another kind of Q, wouldn’t it?
So, Guinan... It's like having a Will Riker... And a Thomas Riker But no power or extraordinary link existed between the two of them... either in different or same dimension.
@@cubsblue1971 Her acting role in TNG/Picard is to be a super wise woman. Her acting role on The View is to be an idiot who pushes propaganda and berate those who ask questions. Polar opposites.
When watching ST:TNG, I always thought that Guinan may have been a Douwd that chose to suppress her powers to live among corporeal beings and experience life and reality as we do just like the one in the episode The Survivors. I like your research and explanation, though ....BUT, what POWERS was she about to use on Q in the scene where she throws up her hands as if to engage him in battle? As far as I can tell, the Nexus wouldn't grant her any type of ability to fend off Q, yet she clearly had the stance to engage him if he had tried anything. Just my two-cents on the matter. 🙂
I always saw Guinan as some form of a time agent. Sometime after visiting Earth in 1893 she could have been approached by the high council of the Q continuum (because her and her race could have been seen as likely candidates for their trials at one time, like Q has been telling Picard about humans for years but they had foreseen the Borg invasion and used her and others to oversee human development Hell she could have been guided by someone to go to Earth all of those years ago in the first place not knowing that it was a Q suggesting that she go. ) or an alien race even more powerful than or on the same level as the Q to keep certain Q's in check so the universe could be at balance and she was bestowed certain abilities. Which is why Q seems to hate her because she kept him in check and spoiled his fun by restoring any damage or timeline he messed up. After decades of service to these creatures and many meetings with different Q's she could have been depowered and went back to her home planet and was there to witness and escape as the Borg invaded her planet. After being taken out of the nexus ribbon and her echo being left behind some of her powers could have returned to her on a lower level and she can perceive time changes differently than others. Her telling Picard that his real journey has never been just in the stars could mean that she always knew of a higher purpose for him which is why these aliens or even the Q themselves could have pulled the real strings and arranged her and Picard meeting in the first place. Anyway I thought that would be a fun idea.
I've always felt like Q's power wasn't to actually change reality, but to make others believe that he has done so. This also allows Guinan's ability to see through his false reality more understandable.
Makes sense but it’s not right. Remember the first appearance of Q when the crew was in the strange room being judged by Q and councillor Troy says this is not an illusion it’s very real.
My guess is that Guinan and Q were lovers or were “married” (what ever the Q continuum equivalent to marriage is) and they are now “ex” lovers or divorced. Q despises her because she left him, and/or because the Nexus aura she now possesses allows her to deflect some of Q’’s space-time control, and that frightens Q. And/or Q still loves her, but doesn’t want to, because she doesn’t love him back.
I truly hope they bring a meaningful story arc. I truly hope they respect the fans memory and true story arc as we know it. My own favorite SiFi series story arc is Gakar' and Londo on Babylon 5. Now Q is another story all to himself. There is a deeper triangle between Picard, Q, and Guinan. That was established at the end of Star Trek The Next Generation. Personally I always felt Q was pushing Picard into Ascension. Showing Picard how to crossover without using death. Q has showed Picard 2 different time experiences. 1 was literally an anti-time bomb. I keep seeing Q grooming Picard on the laws of time throughout the series of Star Trek The Next Generation. Q knows the many possibilities of the future. Of course he will choose the one for his only friend in the entire universe. What Guinan will have to say about it?
Good video if one overlooks (or forgives) the misleading title "THIS is why Q Fears GUINAN!" Perhaps it should have more accurately been: "THIS is why think Q Fears GUINAN!"
I just started the video but thought I would comment first. Basically I think she's similar to Dr. Who, a TimeLord. She isn't Q but because she's been through all manner of time, she knows as much as Q and even the Q origins and exactly how they came to being.
I figured her ability to sense false realities just came from age. But that could easily be augmented by her Nexus Ecco. I do, however, believe she has something that may be able to challenge a Q. The El Aurians may be in the process of ascension and be able to operate on the same level as the Q. There are a few examples of species like this scattered throughout Star Trek. If this is the case, Q dealing with Guinan may be akin to a human dealing with a particularly smart gorilla or chimpanzee; while Picard would be like a mouse in a maze.
Guinan has a "spooky action at a distance" sort of quantum entanglement between her consciousness within the Nexus and her consciousness outside of the Nexus. Far stranger things have happened in the universe than this. I'll buy it.
Guinin is part of the X. Unlike Trelain who was a member of the Z. But Z's and Q's have similar attitudes except one likes cats and the other is fascinated with blue whale dolphins though they found it hard to put them in fishbowls. Qs don't like Xs because they originally invented magical toilet paper that is reusable.
Another nice video that says they've got it all figured out with the relationship, and does the exact opposite of providing what it said it would when the video.
Well, since Guinan is in Picard season 2, that might explain the failure of Q's finger snap to affect the lady reading the book, at the end of episode 4. Picard has already noted that there was something strange happening to Q previously, so maybe Guinan's ability to get to Q is greater than anybody realizes.
That both characters are appearing on the show now means a confrontation is inevitable, considering their past encounters. I think that whatever explanation they finally give about her will probably not live up to 30 years of fan speculation, but the idea of Guinan being a mortal being (regardless of lifespan) with special powers doesn’t justify Q’s fear of her. He is all powerful and all knowing, so the only way he could be so intimidated by her is if she was some kind of being with power to match. At their first meeting Q implied (if not directly stating) that she was hiding her true form.
I wouldn't be surprised if Guinan were something other than an El Aurian. In the Q trilogy Greg Cox did, as Q and his "associates" fought against the Continuum he mentions seeing the Organians who could observe the conflict and disapprove of it. I also seem to recall Q mentioning in that same trilogy he actually talked to God and tried to convince God not to create humanity. In *I,Q* they end up wiping out the universe only to have another being of even more powerful to return it to normal. In the New Frontier series, when Q shows up, the navigator actually manages to resist Q's powers because the navigator has the blood of Odin in him. If I were a race like those and wanted to hide my power and live among mortals, I'd claim to be a long-lived race too just to deflect some questions. There's also some other races that she might be as well: consider that archaeology race found by mixing the DNA scraps brought together by the 4 major powers (6-20, The Chase). I don't recall it was ever named, but if it had millions of years to evolve further, it could have developed the necessary mental powers to become a contemporary of a Q.
@@RB-ic4du Her not being El Aurian would also make sense in that the Borg would have made a huge jump forward in technology when they assimilated that race. Now the Borg are powerful but they are not "we just assimilated an ancient race of near omnipotent beings and now have all their technology" powerful suggesting that the El Aurians were not noticeably more advanced than other races. There is also the question of how such a race would blunder to the extent of all of them bar Guinan being assimilated. more likely is that she is omnipotent herself and is using the guise of being El Aurian (who are known to be long lived) to cover for the fact she survives so long. She could even have been hiding amongst their society observing them and used her powers to escape the Borg.
@@laszlokaestner5766 The other thing to consider is that she may have been El Aurian, but sometime after the Borg attack on her homeworld she gained powers to bring her to a near-Q, in essence, the attack forced her to ascend. In this, Q may have been directly involved: one of their conversations mentions some dealings with him "two centuries ago". If the biggest ability of an El Aurian is to "listen", or to put it in other terms "passive access to the Force" (lacking active measures like telekinesis), then exposure to a being like a Q (possibly multiple times given her comments) may have given her the jump start to bring her towards parity with Q, who tends to be on the Continuum's s*** list for his pranks and might well have his powers dampened or restricted (this dampened state might well be true if the Q-trilogy books are actually canon, which might not be accurate given the books rarely are canon). As for the Borg and El Aurians...I see one major problem with the whole incident. We know the El Aurians have at least warp capable ships, but they had to have something MORE than just warp, because (presumably) the El Aurian world was somewhere out in the Delta quadrant, and Guinan was on Earth at least during the 1800s (and maybe even earlier, because there was a scene when she mentioned being on Earth as a child). So logically, you would have to give the El Aurians either some insanely capable warp ships (like 9+ continuously) or transwarp capabilities. Otherwise, Guinan might well have never set foot on her homeworld and instead was told about it from others. We know she was on Earth in the 1800s, and was seen near Earth in 2293, and the attack on the El Aurian homeworld was supposed to be roughly 2265 or so, which means the refugees managed to get from homeworld to Earth in 28 years, when we know the Borg weren't quite a presence in the Alpha and Beta quandrants until Q prompted them to be focusing there (when he snapped the Enterprise towards the Borg). Now I just hope they don't try to do a sloppy retcon and wave it all away, because the history and lore deserve better.
She could be to Q what a fixed point time is to Doctor Who. That would be troublesome to a being that has godlike power to change (alter) anything at the click of a the fingers.
I feel she should have her full story explained with maybe a few open-ended stories to leave a little to dream of what could possibly be or not. However I feel she should be much more than anyone could dream of. She is very important to the story and the fans.
I would like to see a brawl between Guinan and Q in Picard Season 2 and hopefully explain more about this mysterious character and why Q hates her so much and fears her.
The movie Star Trek Generations explained Guinan’s origins! She’s an El-Aurian, same as Dr. Soran who desperately wanted to get back into the Nexus. Guinan and Q probably hang out at one point or perhaps Q teased her!
That’s most likely and to add to the Nexus origins, at least non canon, Q created the Nexus when he was a young Q to which the Continuum scalded him for messing with subatomic particles
Picard was also inside and pulled out of the nexus, so he should have the same powers. No, I think it has something to do with her species. We know Q introduced the Borg to her people, and I can remember back during the TNG days her people were nomadic “insightful people”. This was established long before ST Generations. It’s like everyone forgot her canon backstory in TNG.
@@caligo7918 since she requested to be on the show and Q is also magical that is a bit unfair. I dont think they were trying to fill a role in that way.
Guinan is one of my favorite characters in all of Star Trek. Whoopi played the role perfectly. That calm demeanor exudes an immense power and understanding of the universe, neatly tucked away behind twinkling eyes.
Guinan raising her hands in response to Q doing the same makes me think she can at least defend herself from Q’s powers, maybe not exert similar power onto him but deflect or shield herself from his assaults…. I hope we get some cool backstory and explanation for guinan in s2
I had always hoped that her race being almost wiped out by the Borg was a lie to cover up the extent of her powers. Her receiving her extra sensory gifts from her Nexus experience is interesting, and explains her lack of such gifts in 'Time's Arrow", but is ultimately disappointing. I still don't know why Q would fear Guinnan. Sure, he can't play games with her, but he can still blow up the ship she is on. He can still drop a Tarcazian razor beast into 10-Forward. Still, I can't wait to see her and Q together again.
Gosh, I'm a little confused about Guinan getting her powers from her time in the 'Nexus'. I thought the film 'Generations' (when Guinan was in the Nexus) came out after the episode 'Yesterday's Enterprise' (when Guinan was aware the ship and crew are in a false reality, Tasha is not suppose to be alive etc.)? Also Picard and Kirk also were in the Nexus so might they also have special powers and Kirk would not have died? I would appreciate if my misunderstanding could be explained. Thanx!
That's a good point. the Q are afraid of how the human race with evolve over time. The Q might have seen something similar with her race and allowed Q to interfere with her people- the Borg. The problem is that She was sent to Earth long before her world was destroyed to at least preserve her race. When Q finally located her, the long troubles between begun. The other Q stepped in to stop the "fighting". However even they could not see or predict her actions. So she was to be left alone or ignored if possible...well until Q met her again in ten forward....going by another name.
I'm excited about this. i wish they would resurrect the dowd. The Dowd was also introduced in The Survivors Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season 3, Episode 3. The Dowd had destroyed an entire species called "Hoosknock". Very similar to the Q but never mentioned again in the series.

Q is
long lived as Guinen is.

Hold on. I have to go get a new trial cd to reply.
It ALWAYS read to me as a kid that he just hated her race like they had magic anti-ant killer...
I think her race might have that ability but her experience with the Nexus amplified it even more.
After the Mark Twain incident star fleet inteligence would want some anwsers out of her instead of lettimg her serve drinks behind a bar.
Q traveled to the future and saw Guinan on The View. The toxic overload was terrifying.

@@kel8923 The existence of the Q goes back at least four billion years. In his early days, Q traveled to his future and watched an episode of the View. It was then that Q realized he was only an actor in a successful science fiction series.

If the El Aurians all had Q like powers, why wouldn't Soran have used them? Why would he bother blowing up stars with a missile?
@@ThePopcast - she encountered Q before the Nexus though. Her run-in with Q was during the NX-01 era before her people were assimilated by the Borg. So she must have had some kind of power before the Nexus to have been able to annoy Q so much...
That or she just punched him out like Sisko did...
I always thought she belonged to a race of psychics that had tangled with the Q and the rest of his clan in the past, and somehow managed to outsmart them.
That would have played well!
That's an awesome explanation, That's the one I want to go with!
"What happened to all the people in 10 Forward who were there only moments before? Why were they gone but Guinan was still there?"
My question is: "Why did she pop up from behind the bar? Was she just laying on the floor until someone came in and needed a drink?
Because she keeps the good Saurian Brandy on the bottom shelf, in the back, behind the cheap Andorian Ale, so it doesn't go missing.
Either that, or she dropped a hair-pin and her hat was in danger of falling off.
Every tv and movie bar tender lives in a micro apartment right underneath the triple sec the crushed ice.
The view is lacking, but you'd be surprised about the square footage.
All of Star Trek is stupid. Aliens only show up on the day shift when the email crew is on duty lol
She needed to record a few more minutes for the next episode of the veiw
ONLY in sci-fi. Reality is even scarier
makes sense
@@kev3d Guinan can go back there ,never to return.

It does seem like she can potentially outsmart a Q, from her previous encounters. Far more to her than what is explained. Puzzling why Q appears either concerned or afraid of her.

That makes a lot of sense.
Good one!
The Q plays mind games. The Borg, play for keeps.

Good point but still Q didn’t sense her presence behind the bar. He can sense thoughts too.
Yeah omniscient Q did not know she was there.
Part of me wondered if Q had a hand in the majority of her people getting snatched by the Borg.
What an interesting theory. Maybe Q was toying with her people (long ago because Quinan "wasn't there personally....") the way he toys with humanity and exposed them to the Borg as well if they rejected his "offer of help"
@@malachiXX Guinan knew what Q was doing when he threw the ship near the Borg. Probably because she has seen or known him to do so in the past
That theory goes against what was established on TNG, DS9, VOY. The Q are in a sense "Self-appointed?" guardians in the Universe. Q (DeLancie) acted like a Trickster, and harassed others, but was still a true Q.

I still don't understand how she doesn't know Jean Luc in Picard when they met in "Time's Arrow" in TNG..
that was a different time line.
Guinan morphed into a beast that dwells in a place called "The View".

They are still corporeal.
I could see that they could, but it leads one to wonder how the Borg could have been vulnerable to species 8472 (or whatever it was)?
@@brianwhiting3280 they were vulnerable because 8472s immune system was so evolved it was capable of destroying nanoprobes before they could do anything. Same holds true for their ships.
But they would have known about the new nanoprobes that the doctor developed. Besides, their weapons obliterated the borg ships.
Even in the video they did the same hand gestures to each other when they were challenging each other
I want your interpretation to be the correct one!
I think your interpretation should become Trek canon.
Sounds great! That would also answer the question why Q doesn’t just “blink” Guinan out of existence.
exactly what I was saying on twitter.
The takeway from this video is we still don't know why Q fears Karen Johnson.
But there were two problems in 2393:
1. the Khitomer protocols prohibited Starfleet to build real war ships.
But perhabs because Q made a big mistake:
He made the Borg aware of the Existence of the Galaxy class!
@@acmenipponair you are a true Trekkie 🖖. I salute for your accurate summary 🖖

It’s no secret that Whoopi has always been a sci-fi fan.
Whoopi, the psycho
Yeah, it's too bad she went all batchit. I liked her work back in the day but she's lost her ever virtue signaling mind.
She was always kinda shit just far more so now.
We all loved her so much that she adapted the persona to the N-th degree, which she now spew's on every episoide of "THE VIEW".
You ALMOST blew my mind
I thought you said: " Q is in fact Guinan " LOL
@@therearenoshortcuts9868 That'd be some shit, right? Too wild a reach to consider, but fun to think about.
So I like the idea of her being Q:s mom. Sounds like fun.
So what was she doing with her hands up when her and Q and Picard were in Ten Forward? That looked like she was at least going to have some protection against him or an offensive power to use against him, I would think.
I have to agree. It wouldn't make sense for a mortal to take a fighting stance with a Q as a bluff.
Q getting into a brawl with someone who could challange his level of power would be an interesting idea
What about the Douwd from the TNG episode The Survivors? They would likely give the Q a run for their money in a fight
Thanks for saving me the time of the clip. ♦️🙏♦️
Interesting. But if Guinan's people were that powerful, why does she scare Q? If she's so powerful, her people should have been able to fend off the Borg.
@@truckerdaddy-akajohninqueb4793 maybe Guinan and her people only have power against the Q...
Why would the Q feel threatened by another advance race of beings? Over the course of the Star Trek series, there were other beings on a similar level as the Q such as the dude who destroyed an entire species without the galaxy with a single thought just because they attacked the planet on which he was living and killed his human wife.
@@rayneal4078 Also the being they saved who's species was on the cusp of turning into pure energy, we never got to see what all they could do.
could it be that guinan is a being that exists in all possible timelines at the same time, and thereby notices when Q creates a new fork in the timelines through his actions.
I haven’t watched Star Trek since Paramount took the different series out circulation. I enjoyed this walk down memory lane. 🥰
Even like Kelpien race, I think Guinan is from a race that evolves over time and she was able as a survival to gain those powers in time, powers that over-reach Qs power, but is limited to use them (like Federations Prime Directives)... like a cosmic being that guards the flow of universe?
If she could overreach Q's powers then he wouldn't be able to destroy her, which he clearly offered to do.
Long comment, but I believe a more plausible theory of Guinan & Q:
See now, I disagree with your interpretation.
So time path of progression:
Guinan met Picard on earth in the past, experienced the Nexis *(got her senses & abilities heightened by the Nexis)*, ran into that Q, & other Q's, was less effected by Q's games, able to either see or even just intuitively feel through them, probably foiled more then one of Q's games, & then they met again during TNG.
She couldn't be an offshoot of the same Q, so her race was wiped out by the Borg, the same race that posed zero threat to Q? It doesn't add up.
Q and his Q's are the Coolest
He watched the view and freaked out
Guinan and Q are two of my favorite Star Trek characters.
Plus, he can play the piccolo

Would love to hear more about Picard & Guinan!!!!❤
It was TNG second season, not Enterprise.
Well this aged like a fine glass of milk
😂😂😂
What if Guinan's people acquired the knowledge over time from their long lives on how to control the Q, maybe even to the point of making them genies of a sort. Maybe then somehow the Q fought back, brought on the borg, and scattered their people so they would not be a threat to the continuum any longer. In season 2 of Picard we saw that a younger Guinan knew how to summon Q with a creepy ritual, so I think this theory has some merit! ^-^
Totally agree with this
Trek is Science-Fantasy so magic is always a possibility, you just need techno-babble so the Feds won't be foaming from the mouth and anus.
Wasn't Picard in the Nexus in Generations and figured out how to get out too? How come he didn't get the ability to spot false realities?
Hi Arch, He went all the way into the nexus and Guinan was beamed out at a "Critical Moment" according to an early script.
Not only that… Picard chose to leave just as Kirk did… wasn’t forced out.
Or spot Guinan for what she really is
Wasn’t it like that if you would enter the Nexus once, you would , from that moment on, always exist there? And with the ability to reach out to every place in time and space you could also be at any point in time and space at the same time? With that, and by being safe from time and space as an eternal being in the Nexus, you could journey out without ever fearing death or basically an end to your existence. That would make you just another kind of Q, wouldn’t it?
So, Guinan... It's like having a Will Riker... And a Thomas Riker
But no power or extraordinary link existed between the two of them... either in different or same dimension.
the clip at the end of the futuristic dance club looked cool. what movie/show was that from?
“The Orville”, Seth McFarland’s show.
I'd love to see her and Q talk things out at the end. Almost like they were playing a game of chess the entire time and Q lost the bet.

that makes the most sense actually.
A very interesting idea. I do believe Guinan would have displayed some sort of power against Q if it had been necessary.
she was going to use Northern Mantis :)

same here , I thought she was a douwd that lived amoung the El-Aurians until they were destroyed
I wonder if the prophet entities in the Bajoran wormhole has any links with Q.
Always watched Star Trek because of Jean-Luc Picard. Can't wait to see the next with Picard and Qinan. this will be exciting.
I've always felt like Q's power wasn't to actually change reality, but to make others believe that he has done so. This also allows Guinan's ability to see through his false reality more understandable.
Yeah, no, that’s not it.
Makes sense but it’s not right. Remember the first appearance of Q when the crew was in the strange room being judged by Q and councillor Troy says this is not an illusion it’s very real.
@@urtgoufhghoof course she could be being duped to.
Disgusting
So way doesn't he feel that way about Lady Q in Voyager? Lady Q is the type to eliminate competition, yet Guinan is a live and kicking.
I really enjoyed this video. Thanks.
What Guinan will have to say about it?
respect the fans should be the #1 rule! Not only do we think Q is pushing Picard, but humanity as a whole. Great comment.
Ha, I made this same comment 1 year ago...clearly if I was a timelord, it would be no benefit, if I can't remember something I did one year ago. 😅
I can’t wait to see Guinan and Q in Picard!! 😀 The anxiety is overwhelming. 😎
nobody cares what fake trekkies get excited about. Go back to facebook normie
12:55 “Inside the Nexus time and space have no meaning.” I thought that was math class. 😮😅😊
[Calvin & Hobbes reference]
Guinan has a "spooky action at a distance" sort of quantum entanglement between her consciousness within the Nexus and her consciousness outside of the Nexus. Far stranger things have happened in the universe than this. I'll buy it.
Quantum entanglement is easy. It untangles just by looking at it.
I can't wait for the NEW season of Picard...
He never showed fear of her. He even offered to destroy her.
Q and GUINAN were divorced
That would be so hilarious actually. Good comment!
@@ThePopcast watch Episode Q Who and Listen to what Q and Guinan say to and about each other. Seems rather suggestive to me.
She and her race are basically the embodyment of the "Magical Negro" TV trope.
That or his powers don't work on her and she's about to throw hands.
The answer was much more stupid than any of us thought...I wish they just left their back story alone with how bad they became
She's a Witch. A good, cosmic one though.
But he cannot get rid of Guinan.
Thanx!
What if she’s an emerging Q
That's a good point. the Q are afraid of how the human race with evolve over time. The Q might have seen something similar with her race and allowed Q to interfere with her people- the Borg. The problem is that She was sent to Earth long before her world was destroyed to at least preserve her race. When Q finally located her, the long troubles between begun. The other Q stepped in to stop the "fighting". However even they could not see or predict her actions. So she was to be left alone or ignored if possible...well until Q met her again in ten forward....going by another name.
@@crsrdash-840b5 she’s El-Aurian though but maybe 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Man, I remember when you guys his 10K subs...always enjoy your content.
Same here... It's fun watching their Popcast Unleashed channel grow too.
Thanks Pianodean! We couldn't do it without you :) We really appreciate the kind words!
@@JC_Chappy Thanks for saying that! It's been slow growth but it's picking up.
They need to get into a brawl and finally find out the details.
I'm excited about this. i wish they would resurrect the dowd. The Dowd was also introduced in The Survivors
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season 3, Episode 3. The Dowd had destroyed an entire species called "Hoosknock". Very similar to the Q but never mentioned again in the series.
Yeah I thought about this too. But I think they wanted to be undiscovered.
