To vastly improve your American accent: - don't move your jaw when you speak - only the lips. Imagine your jaw is sewn almost shut (about 1/3 inch between the upper and lower teeth) - your vowels should be a lot louder than the consonants - most Ts turn into Ds or are skipped (antibiotics -> anabaiadics) - most vowels should be held for longer than you think

Correct. As a voice coach I work with singers from all over the world trying to sing American songs. Many cultures use Middle and back sounds. Keep your resonance (buzzing of your sound) forward. Overuse nasal sounds to help keep sound forward. Eventually, you will be able to relax the overly-forward sound. Good luck!
The irony is that when British and Australian actors (think Hugh Laurie in _House_ or Heath Ledger in _The Dark Knight_ or Hugh Jackman as Wolverine), they tend to speak deep in their throat with very tense vocal chords. It creates a gravelly effect that is actual pretty rare among American accents. There aren’t many people in this country who speak like Sam Elliott. This is especially apparent for someone like me, a native speaker of American English who is fluent in German. The moment I switch to German, I instinctively and unconsciously shift to a deeper register that sounds entirely appropriate in German but would feel out of place in American English. As soon as I revert to English, I instantly and effortlessly flip back into a head voice, a far less throaty register, without even realizing it.

Here is another observation, native speakers speak mostly using their lips and the way they do it is by spreading them like saying "eee" so here is my technique: I try to transfer pressure on my lips, and that automatically spreads as required and fixes placement! Here is another observation, native speakers speak mostly using their lips and the way they do it is by spreading them like saying "eee" so here is my technique: I try to transfer pressure on my lips, and that automatically spreads as required and fixes placement! Hope this helps!

ive been saying this for years. i grew up on the mexican american border soeaking english and spanish.
i hate my english voice, and dislike the language. its very flat. spanish language is based on tones and context, where english is nothing more than just the words
