Many congratulations to both you and your husband. I recently passed my one year mark and it's crazy seeing him again. He was always my favorite DI and he taught me so much. He approached everything differently from the other DI's, and he worked incredibly hard for my platoon. Also, his IT's we're the worst I ever experienced. Seeing his face and even being able to hear his cadence again is crazy, and it even makes me emotional. Thank you for helping him get through this. And thank him for helping me be the man I am today.
I know IT was his favorite because of how challenging he liked to make it so I’m glad to know he hit the mark on it lol! Being a DI often seemed like a thankless job but little moments like these I know add so much value to his time there & him as well. Thank you so much for your words!
Dude no way, your husband was my drill instructor during receiving in June 2021. I remember I was overwhelmed and wanted to quit and he told me I’m basically a Marine and that the hardest part is behind me. DI Peete, thank you for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. It was an honor to begin my tenure with solid Marines as my Drill Instructors including yourself

Guys like your husband changed my life. I always talk up just how impressive DI's are, some of the most dedicated and hard working people I've ever met. But I always mention the sacrafice they endure. Meaning their family. I couldn't imagine, especially with young kids. I just hope if nothing else you a know the impact that sacrafice has had on 100's to 1000's of lives directly. They did a job few other could, but successfully enough not a single one of those people will ever forget them. Thank you for everything youve given up for that to happen.

It's been 60 years since I graduated from USMC San Diego. I know the Drill Instructors today are held to much more rigorous standards than when I passed through boot camp. I am sure the love and support you provided your husband went a long way in helping him perform his duties beyond what he may have imagined in the beginning of his tour. Best wishes to him and to you, may your family continue to flourish.

DI school is ROUGH, so stay strong girly! It’s literally the prep for what depot life will be like so give yourself and your spouse so much grace when it comes to getting through it! I hope it does all work out for you guys it won’t be easy but you can get through it!

Respect to all the men and women who give up their time to serve. I went to the process to be an army soldier, but the doors closed on me, but in the time I learned that it takes a lot of will, mind power to "drop" everything to become a solider.

This brought back lots of memories of my husbands time on the Depot. In fact he was the one that sent me your link lol. He just retired and was a Fox company DI so this hits close to home and our son was about the same age as yours (he’s now a Marine himself in Japan). So thank you for the trip down memory lane. And as much as we can’t wait for that tour to be over. You find yourself missing it at times. Maybe not at first lmao. Best wishes on the rest of this journey.

Man, it seems like yesterday when I marched on that parade deck, 53 years ago. 1969 MCRD, PLT 1118, DI’s - SSGT Contreras, Sgt Wilde, Sgt Bialagloi. Semper Fi.
Much respect to DI’s everywhere. You keep our country alive.
And my wife, who stood by me during my time in the Corps, says “Thank You for your service,” to all Marine Wives, everywhere.
I heartily echo that. Unsung national heroes.

Our Drill Instructors told us the first day of Boot Camp that we would never forget our DI’s names, and they were right.
I was at Weapons Field Training Battalion MCRD SD for two years, some Marines that I deployed with were Drill Instructors at that same time. I remember a friend on his first cycle, it was six months after we last saw each other. I made the comment that he looked like he just spent the last three years in Auschwitz (yeah, he looked terrible after DI school and mid-way through his first cycle). After those two years I went to recruiting duty, I dodged the orders to DI school since I had already been at the depot, technically. Recruiting Duty and Drill Instructor Duty are both hard. But DI life is a different type of stress. At least I got to go home every night and sleep in my own bed. Those guys are around recruits 24 /7 and yes that's heavy on the family. Glad you were able to take it day by day, sometimes chow to chow, and make it to the end of a successful tour. If you can survive this, you can survive pretty much anything else in the Corps. Best to to the both of you.
I was there last month for my baby cousins graduation. I had to walk my aunt through the whole process. I graduated from boot in Parris Island back in 2006. It was awesome to see the other side of graduation.

The greatest feeling of seeing my first born and only son at his boot camp graduation at Camp Pendleton San Diego. That was back in 2009. He spent 13 years in the active.☺️🇺🇸

Having been a Drill Instructor on Parris Island 78-81 I know what it takes for the wife and Marine to accomplish a successful tour. Why does it sound like such a relief though? We know going in about the difficulty, dedication, and commitment. The saddest day of my career was the final day of my last cycle. 3 years, two five day breaks. Wouldn’t change a thing.

So they finally add WMs on west coast? Damn I'm getting old.. I remember my DIs always told us stories about Afghan and Irag, it will be interesting to see how the MC will do during Peacetime..

I was an average recruit, but if at the time I knew actually how difficult it was for my DI’s, myself along with my fellow recruits would have stepped it up even higher and performed even better than we already did simply just to give our DI’s a better break but I’m also sure they had a good time destroying us and then making us solid Marines.
