If your temperature gauge is below 195 degrees it is more than likely a faulty thermostat.

  • I am not a professional mechanic. This is not professional advice. I am merely a backyard mechanic. Work on cars at your own risk. If your temperature gauge is showing that your engine is running too cold it will not run well. Typical engines need to operate between 195 and 205 degrees. If your operating temperature is below 195 your thermostat is probably "stuck open" and needs to be replaced. In this episode I not only explain the importance of correctly operating thermostat but also show you how to replace the thermostat in a 2000 GMC Sierra SLE with a 4.8l Vortec engine.

Is lowering coolant output temperature a good idea by using one of those performance radiators?

2019 there was a recall for the catholic converter. This is my fathers car so I don’t really know when the issue started as he don’t drive the car much as you can tell from the mileage Anything will help, any advice.

Its getting to much cooling the thermostat is stuck open Thermostat stuck open Most likely it can cus it to be more cooler and take longer to heat up right and never gose to the middle at higher speeds and in the coldereather or it could be as simple as its just the The Temperature gauge is broken

Just replaced my thermostat because my heat in the truck and the temp on the gauge are very low. Tested old thermostat it works properly. Why won’t my engine get up to normal temp. When I’m driving it goes almost down to lowest temp on gauge 160F, when Im parked at idle temp gauge goes up a couple little lines on gauge but not normal temp. What could be the issue? Any thoughts?

CRAP....I wanted to see that stuck thermostat you removed !!! Also I would have used a thin film of RTV silicone and let it dry for about 30 minutes on the new rubber seal to make sure it stays in place before bolting the neck back on. It is always a pain in the ass to put new coolant in too, since none of the new radiators have an old style fill neck on top,.....engineering genius,...NOT. LOL.

My Dodge 1998.5 24 Valve Ram Diesel 5.9 in the cold weather will Not warm all the way up to 195°
It can idle for hours even go for a drive, the dash temp gauge will show Approx 190° but a temp gun right on the Block Thermostat housing never get up above 170°

@Douglas Nathan yeah I hear ya, but this is a pick up truck and the round town MPG has declined dramatically and coupled with the Purposefully cause fuel price increase of $1.60/ gallon by Sock Puppet fool BIDEN, the performance loss is increasingly Untenable.
Also I know that Semi Trucks put a special Radiator Blanket over the front of the radiator with adjustable flaps to control/ block the air flow so Thier trucks will warm up.

On my Dodge , same as yours, I found that in the old weather it helps a lot if you can get a Blanket like the 18 wheelers use to block the cold , they place it behind the grill in front of the radiator

Need some help. 2014 Silverado 4.3 105k miles Temperature is stuck at 160 and fans keep running constantly until I pull the fuse. No codes with both of my scanners. I replaced the thermostat sensor and it worked fine for a day and back to square one. I have the thermostat to replace next. My question is will the cold air intake I installed cause this issue. It was fine until the temperature dropped outside.
Failed to mention with the scanner hooked up when the temp sensor was working the scanner was off at least 60+ degrees difference than the gauge in the truck.
My question is what’s next. I keep reading different things that the ac pressure sensor the map sensor could also cause this.
Please help if anyone else is experiencing this issue what did ya do to fix this problem.

I have a audi A3 2005 tfsi, and its having a heating problem. The temperature never reached 90 decrees Celsius before I changed the thermostat, now it reaches 90 after I changed it, but it takes about 15-20 minute of driving when it should take about 5-10 minutes. So I changed the temp sensor but that didn’t speed up the heating either. I’ve tried to bleed the system of air without succes. Anyone who knows what it can be or if you have or had the same issue?

Similar is hapening to me, with Citroen xsara. If temp reaches 75, by pushing gas pedal and making 2000 rpm or so, temp goes down. Also with AC turned on, temp is constantly just about 60 because ventilator is engaged, and cool radiator constantly. And yes, thermostat is changed , maybe 4 times.😟😀😀😀😀

In My Car From the last month I am facing weired issues:
    - Fuel Tank Got Shrinked Which caused wrong fuel indication.
After installing a new Tank i am seeing whenever I open my fuel tank cap, air vacuum releases.
    - Another problem is. My temperature gauge is going 1/4 only.
2 months ago I serviced this car.
Oil change, Oil Filter change, Air filter change, Installed thermostat which was not installed before,
After servicing I ran 150kms. Everything ran fine,
But now I am facing these two issue.
    Steps I have taken
: Checked temperature guage by grounding it. It works fine.
So I installed new temperature sensor.
    But same thing happening.
