Some have claimed that the 300BLK is a 700+ meter rifle. Okay. Let's test it with the aid of Primary Arm's ACSS reticle!
The "Dirt Squirrel" has an 8 in barrel, Palmetto State Armory upper with an FN CHF barrel, how does this thing do at distances? This is close to shooting an AK74u in barrel length, but running a cartridge closer to the 7.62x39.
Remember, it's not a Honey Badger. The Dirt Squirrel is much dirtier.

I just got off the phone with Primary Arms to clarify the 300blk reticle for ACSS. Obviously we're not running the correct one here, but they clarified that the 300blk ACSS in their Raptor works with the 16in barrel and even the 10.5 in barrel with *110grain* ammunition. However, if you are running a 10.5in barrel with 110gr, you need to zero the tip of the chevron at 200y.
So running this 8in variant with a heavier 125gr ammunition is likely what yields the "dropping like a lead zeppelin" effect.
Increasing trajectories for 125gr ammo that drops "like a lead zeppelin" makes holdovers a stairway to heaven.
@@philpeterson7182 You know the way they got their name right? They were criticized that their band would go down like a "lead balloon"... and so they took the name, "Led Zeppelin".

Thank you I didnt even get that😂
I think Josh missed it, never challenge the self esteem of a Hong Kong guy with an automatic weapon

Bullets dropped harder than that rock on your friend
Pfffft who cares that you had to aim 2 stories high at 500, look how pretty those MLOK covers are on it! What a wonderful product, what more could you ask for?!
Funny because I'm looking for some on my Geissele mk4 rail
I think they're ugly af
Are you making fun of these guys or Q? Because Q deserves it for charging $3,000 for the Honey Badger.
2.5 more inches of barrel. XD
10.5 300BLK is best! It puts enough ass behind supers to reach out more easily and is still short enough to keep subs subsonic. I'll say it again, 10.5 is goodest boy!
Some guys are suggesting that we should have used the Primary Arms' 300blk ACSS reticle. Yes we should have... but also i just talked to PA, they said that their reticle was for a 110 gr 300blk with a 16in barrel. That's 2x our barrel length shown here. They also said the trajectory of a 7.62x39 was giving very similar results at that barrel length.
@Phillip Cameron I think they mostly designed it for AKs in 7.62x39. It just happend to be compatable with 300bo out of a 16" barrel so they decided to add that on the scope too
Phillip Cameron it lines up good with shorter ones too using a 200 yard zero
Phillip Cameron It likes up with a 10.5” 300bo using 110gr and 200 yards as the zero point
9-Hole Reviews Can you make a video with the 556 raptor on a 556 AR🔥
@Phillip Cameron actually i know guys who get 16in a lot hahahha
Would love to see a follow up with a longer barrel here. Like a 10.3 or 16 inch barrel. See how much more you can get out of the cartridge.
great videography
Thanks Mike!
Ditto.
Completely agree. They killed it!

Seeing those prices make me want to cry.
With the right reticle and actually having dope for the round, I think you could get much better results.
Exactly with all that they would only be aiming like 10 ft higher at 500 vs 20...I am glad they did it but practical in any sense nope.
Why is everyone so afraid to say PSA is awesome? I know I'm coming in 3 years late to this discussion, but they really are just as good as name brand ARs (of which I have several). Just because they are priced for the average joe does not mean their value does not match that of those priced 3 or 4 times as much.
Well said!
@@gnewell8 I had a chance to tour the PSA factory. Their quality control and build process is second to none. It's the gucci crew that believes something needs to be overpriced to be high quality
I'm definitely a PSA fan. I have 3 556, 6 223 Wylde, and a 300 BO... In addition to a couple of their AKs. I also have a S&W M&P 15 and an IWI Zion.
I would feel confident handing any of those rifles out to my family, friends, or neighbors if necessary.
All of my PSA builds came in under $400 including a stripped lower. More than sufficient quality, accuracy, and dependability for their anticipated use case.
I have no doubt there are incremental increases with more expensive kit but I believe I'll be better served by arming more people in the 0.001% chance that I need to defend my homestead in the middle of Amish country from an invading force. 😂
With a proper reticle for this setup and range, I think we would have seen a lot less misses.
It's impressive that you were able to get the shots pretty consistent at 500, especially with that optic. I'm pretty confident with my 8.5" 300blk out to about 325 yards, but I don't really consider it a good option past that. It's still my favorite of all the rifles I own, and I much prefer it over the 10.5" 5.56 that fits a similar niche.
This is exactly why i went with the psa 10.5 inch 300blk build kit and also you should have the primary arms reticle for the 300blk /7.62 reticle. It would make life alot easier for your range shots. Its an awesome setup that i have on my 300blkout
6.5 Grendel out of a 12.5" barrel! I'll send you mine!
DO IT
Fuck
I have a .300 BLK Out pistol with a 10.5 barrel and with 125g with my Sig Romeo 5 red dot I shoot a 6 inch plate @ 300 yards all day. With out a scope there's no way I would try any further. Nice video on the .300 BLK Out.
Nice vid guys! It was a 8 inch barrel though.. I still impressed that it could reach that far considering that config is generally used for CQB.
I LOVE 💘 that intro!! This upper or a variant was the very first AR part/piece that i ever bought a few years ago.
The 300 blackout is a great cartridge for what it was designed for. Even up to 300 yards, it’s still effective. I personally wouldn’t use it beyond that, but I’m confident with it considering I own one in a 9” barrel.
Made a copy and put a TA-31 on it. Took a buck last year with 125g sierra game king. Through left shoulder, lungs, spine, right shoulder, and found it fully expanded under skin on far side.
Definitely pros and cons to the platform. I love the 300 blackout for what it was intended to be; a compact AR platform that can effectively put large pills on target within 200 yards and can be easily suppressed with subsonic ammo. I love the fact that I can hunt with a 300blk on my farm and worry less about over-travel to adjacent properties vs using a 308 or even a 223.
I hate the small reticle on the PA ACSS scopes...that wasn’t helping the situation....your sight picture left it entirely up to guess-work; impressive you even connected with steel past 400yds with those blind holdovers.
On the PSA note, I agree and have been surprised that the quality is as good as it is for the low price point.
Great video as always.
I’ll stick with 300blk for better suppressed qualities and 9” barrel. I do wish it was cheaper to shoot it, but would be a better round to hand load which I plan on doing.
The production quality of these just keeps getting better. Appreciated the Shia addition.
I love that you're taking it out this far considering the 300 AAC was designed for subsonic, short barreled, suppressed use at close ranges.
It was designed for supersonic loads and mid range fighting too. They used only supersonic rounds in the video for obvious reasons.
300AAC was actually designed for supersonic and subsonic roles. If it was just subsonic then a SMG would be sufficient. It is basically a US response to the 7.62x39 and the 9x39.
@@DaveSmith-cp5kj yeah, a gun with the effective range of an AK or the suppression of a 9mm.

Lol, spotter was getting annoyed with his rate of fire!
Hahaha, loving the new funny intros guys !!
"DAMNIT SHIA!!"
It'd be interesting to see supersonic 300Blk out of a 16' barrel. I suspect even an optimized powder charge handload for short barrels would perform better.
too much work
300 blk has became my favorite caliber .
These intros keep getting better and better, stay awesome!
Also, I see that AI hiding behind Josh, can't wait for that.
This was extremely informative for me. On a day with little to no wind, you guys gave it a fair shake.
You wont (85%) kill at 500. This is a keks video.
Well it's an 8" barrel so....
Im inpressed you zeroed in on anythin over 300 yards so quickly with a 8.5' barrel.

From the defense standpoint: "At 500 yds, that bad dude it's not a threat yet or anymore!" Besides that, the weapon it's absolutely beautiful, it does hit at 500 yds, and it's a beast at closer ranges. I enjoyed watching your video and learned a couple of new things that I didn't know about a 8" barrel 300 BO. Keep doing your thing, this is the first video I watch from you guys, but it sure isn't the last one.

Great video presentation and shooting and I like "we are not using it as directed" approach which seems very illogical, but you made it work in the end. Excellent shooting Henry. Guys keep up the great work!
IMO 10" is the sweet spot length for 300BO. Lighter bullets preferred. Good video.

That's impressive for that round through an 8" barrel.
How haven't I seen these videos before!? Production quality is off the charts!
Me throwing a rock probably has a better BC than that thing at 500 yards!
Sure thing Patrick Mahomes II...
It’s a heavy, slow moving bullet. Not sure what the obsession with 300 blackout is because there are so many better options.
BM not for in close under 300 yards and in close quarters
@Nick 718 out of an 8in barrel?
@Nick 718 It burns all its powder within 8" though, not so with the 5.56. And you just need a new barrel unlike the 7.62. It might only make sense if you're going to suppress it or need a short barrel (all the cool guys) edit: or need the heavier bullet for inside 300m
I agree i thought you were pulling to quick for shots that were increasing in distance...but i appreciated the effort to create the content and give me some stronger perspective about my 308 pistol.
Try a 12 inch 6.5 Grendel. You might be surprised.

The correct optical, and a longer barrel, he would clear this course with flying colors. Can tell hes a great shot.
When your brace costs more than your entire upper.
What "brace" are YOU running?
@@Gnolomweb that pdw brace was around $250 at one point. That upper on sale is under $200
I use this same set up suppressed with a Primary Arms 1-4 to hunt Deer and pigs in Florida. I use 110gr Barnes at rangers from 0-150yds and its hole for hole accurate and kills efficiently.

One of the best reviews I've seen! Thanks! Very relevant!
You need to get the scope with the reticle for 7.62x39/300Blackout.
Loved that mug Henry. Cheers from Poland! :D
Would love to see how an SBR or Krink 7.62x39 compares!
When you run out of reticle like this, if you have strelok it’ll show you correct BDC’s when you zoom down to 4x or 2x since it’s second focal plane. It’ll get you way further!
There is a ACSS Raptor for 7.62x39/.300BLK
I think that one taps out at 350yrds or something like that too right?

@@SnarkyPosters just talked to PA, they said that their reticle was for a 110 gr 300blk with a 16in barrel. That's 2x our barrel length.

It's nice finally seeing a video where theory is put into practice with this cartridge, thank you two.
I've kinda figured that a 16-inch 300BLK is basically just a modern StG-44 in terms of ballistics with those 125gr bullets, maybe a slightly better BC since it's .308 instead of .323, but not enough of a difference to make it equal to something like 6.5 Creedmoor or .30-06 at longer range. There's only so much powder you can fit in a shortened/necked-up 5.56. It'd be nicer if you had a reticle that matches up with your ammo but you did better than I could, especially with the velocity decrease from what a 16" would have given.
My brother has a suppressed SBR and he got me interested in the caliber, I'm mainly in it for aforementioned StG performance since I'm not old enough to buy cans or get SBRs (gotta be 21, right?) but he does lots of subsonic work.
I stopped reading your comment early, so this may not apply:
My 300 PSA upper 10.5" build hits .75 moa at 100/250 with my SD loads.
My 308 SASS 20" 308 hits .25 moa at 100/250 with my SD loads.
My 300BO weights 7lbs no mag. My 308 weighs 15.5 no mag.
My 300 BO subs suppressed is 132dB my 308 suppers suppressed is 141dB.
I think that speaks to their usefulness in different missions.
I love 300blk, but it has it's place and shooting beyond 300 yards is where it blacks out. I think a slightly longer barrel like a 10.5 or 12 paired with the proper acss for the 300 blackout would have helped a bit, but fun test anyway.
that acss reticle works great on a 223 and the 300bo/7.62x39 version has worked awesome for me on my 16' ks47. I used to have a 10.5' and 16' 300b.o and shot them a good bit out to 300 yards but never tried anything past that. But I bought the ks47 gen 2 and sold both my blackouts.

As a person that lives in Columbia. PSA things maybe be "affordable" but they rarely disappoint too. Also the store sells nfa items. Another wonderful thing about them.
I never understood anyone complaining about PSA. I have never seen any concrete evidence an expensive gun performs better than a cheap gun if both are in spec.
6.5 Grendel...i mean cmon. Its only right.
I’ve been waiting for this one. I figured it was about a 300 yard round. Though it would have a little more energy at 300 though. I think the 300Blk is really best suited for home defense and also makes a good little truck gun. Good for hunting in thick areas as well where you really don’t shoot past 150 like where I live.
No. 300BO is under 150. All day every day. Every round/caliber/bullet has better terminal ballistics after 150 300bo.
If you're not running a suppressor and expecting indoor combat with two legged critters. 300BO is only for keks.
@@Gnolomweb The 300blk is not magic, but it is better than nearly all popular rounds at 200 and even 300 from an 8" barrel. IF shooting out 300+ it can do the job still, but isn't best as you say compared to a 14.5" 5.56 or any of the newer 6mm Gucci loads with long barrels.
Really I'd say from an 8" 300blk is a 300m and in gun with supers, 150m with subsonic. Once you throw 'Subsonic' into any discussion, good luck ignoring the 300blk.
