Fantastic video Pete. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge. Looking forward to seeing the turf type tall fescue area being renovated to Kentucky Blue in the fall. One tip I would advise, I had hard pan issues on my lawn and when I renovated it I used a deep ripper/sward lifter (20 inch depth) to break the hard pan. I was advised to run it when the ground was dry - as if you rip when the soil is wet, then the ripper doesn't get to smash the pan apart - it will just cut through the wet soil and not do an effective job. The result of Ripping was the areas I had which always lacked moisture and had heat stress before anywhere else - well that problem was solved. You will know if you are deep enough when you see the entire ground lift in between the ripper shanks. If you start seeing soil on the surface kicked up by the ripper (looking like you are plowing soil) then you are too shallow.

Great video Pete. Love those stripes! I've seen that hydretain has a granular product that you can put down to help with water retention at the roots. You should do a side by side comparison video of hydretain granular and liquid and another plot alone without any product solely depended on what the rain provides and see what kind of results you get. Love to see the reaction of the turf and see which plot stresses out first.. I know they don't replace water but for the average joe that has a busy schedule and can't water his lawn just whenever it could be a great product to help get you by when you're on a time crunch. 😉 keep the videos coming pete!

Completely off topic, but are y’all still taking care of those soccer fields you put 1,000 lbs of Milo on? That was 2 years ago, what does it look like now?

I’m in Los Banos,ca. 6 months of heat... 6 months off cool grass. I have tall fescue. When can I reseed fescue? Is Bermuda okay to over seed during the heat? I’m used to doing rye grass in the cool season and Bermuda in the heat but this new place I moved to had fescue? Any advice (80-90 degrees right now .. next month should be in the 100’s)

Great info Pete...how often do you apply and what does 1 gallon of Cal-Tide cover?
