I just want to thank you once again for the video.I started using it months ago and my lawn has never been so healthy and green even when we use to have a professional lawn care service. I did modify the formula at my own risk last month to accommodate my backyard garden as well. Instead of superthrive I substituted it for a product called AgroThrive. I waited for it to rain a day before then applied the formula. What I notice is I have to cut the grass every 5 days and increase yield to my garden. Even with this Texas heat, lawn and garden are not so stress out like before. It's TRUE a healthy root system is the key!
I've added this to my irrigation and fertilization routine and my St. Augustine is still rocking in the middle of this crazy Texas heat. No lawn on my block looks like mine this year.
@@lakecityransom I did this treatment 1 more time sheet this and it really retained a lot of water. I cut watering in half, but the mid-atlantic states got a lot of rain. So I'm not 100% sure. I did treat my new seed I planted and it grew very strong. I will do this again in late spring.
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you. I needed to break your application rate down for my own yard size. Hopefully I did it right and it helps others. 8 fl. oz (1 cup) of sea kelp per 4 gallons for 2500-3000 sq ft in the video 4 fl. oz per 2 gallons for 1500 sq ft 2 fl. oz per 1 gallon for 750 sq ft so ~ .3 cups per gallon for 1000 sq ft = ~2.5 oz per gallon for 1000 sq ft = 5 Tablespoons per gallon for 1000 sq ft
Curious if you have any updates on your spray results for the year. I sprayed every 2 weeks adding chelates iron every other spray. I used a finer spray to try to enhance foliar absorption. Must say the lawn looked its best ever this year Couldn’t find definite information whether humic is absorbed by foliage or only via soil drench In my opinion the humic really helped with iron uptake and the lawn greened up beautifully There’s such controversy out there about using any of this so I would love to know your opinion . I plan on doing it again in 2022. In addition to the reduced heat stress I saw a marked improvement in reduced soil compaction Mid Atlantic lawn with a TTTF restoration in progress Thank you for all your amazing content
Several years ago, they featured something like this on This Old House, which they called a "Lawn Tea" using Kelp, coffee grinds and several other ingredients. This looks so much easier with similiar benefits. I really needed to apply this several weeks ago, but will certainly apply in the next two weeks before we hit the fall reseeding season.
So, i staryed doing this this year, after seeing the video in the summer, as it was burning out from the heat. I modified the amounts, put it in the small yard sprayer, and added a beer and a teaspoon of Dawn dish soap. I found other simular formulas and just combined the best ones. MAN, DOES MY YARD LOOK SO MUCH BETTER. I add this to my yards about every 3 weeks. Thank you, what an improvement. Its so much thicker and greener. Looking forwars to seeing how it handles weeks over 95°.
Great video and recipe. I've been using organic lawn and garden products for 16 years now, but hadn't seen this particular recipe before. I live in South Texas where we have brutally hot summers which can be tough on our St Augustine lawns. Thanks for posting links to these products as well. I ordered the humic acid and kelp. I'll definitely be using this recipe later this week. Thank you amigo and have a great week!
I just buy Milorganite and Lowes Sta-Green. They both have Iron for the dark green color. I use half the 5000 Sq ft Sta-Green. 2500 Sta-Green and one 2500 bag of Milorganite. It's stays drought tolerant here in Minnesota. August is our drought month when grass grows dormant. I do like this video but don't want to buy all that equipment. I do use fish meal for tomatoes. Looks so nice in Florida but I'm staying here in Liberal Lakes, Minnesota.
Thank you so much for all of your tips! I sprayed your formula on my lawn about 6 weeks ago, and after just two weeks, it looked amazing!! My lawn has never looked better! Thank you! Now the Texas summer heat is bearing down on us and my lawn is not being able to stand the heat. Despite watering, the lawn is not looking as good. How often should I/can I add your mix to my St. Augustine lawn?
So glad it helped. I appreciate the feedback. Here in Mass we are having an extremely hot summer, very intense sun daily and little rain. I try to spray once per month in conditions like this for us, for you you may need to do it every three weeks. This is a very tough year and many neighbors lawns are very damaged, I have some spots and areas that are having a tough time but the mix is definitely helping. Hopefully temps drop a little for everyone, this is rough! Hope this helps.
@@SilverCymbal THANK YOU for getting back with me so quickly!! I will plan on adding it every three weeks. I have also noticed some areas where a few of the blades are yellowing, but not a ground level, about an inch from the ground. I noticed it about a week ago and its just in a few areas. Am I overwatering?
Matt, if I'm applying T-Nex PGR, is it okay to apply this "cocktail" and combine / mix it in along with the T-Nex in the same sprayer to kill two birds with one stone?
Just want to say excellent presentation video 📹 . Formula works last yr my lawn was burned-out toast now after 2 applications of your recipe its thriving no rain for 4 days still hanging strong.
Hahaha Too funny! I can totally relate. I could be on my knees crawling on my lawn trying to pick out little weeds. One even stopped to ask me what I was doing. 🤣
No brother you're normal just wait until mid July when there grass is stressing out & yours is deep blue green. Come outside with your favorite beverage ☕ & just look over your landscape & smile 😃
I already apply humic acid in a granular form every two weeks so most likely if you do the same thing you can bypass the liquid method. I would also suggest adding six or more ounces of a quality surfactant to help break the water tension for better absorption by the leaves..
Useful, I will have to calculate the US to UK gallons based on the US Ratio stated on the video. We have 8 pints to a gallon in the UK, our pints are bigger than US pints by 20.8 %. I remember that buying a Guinness on 5th Avenue in NY in 2002, 5 Dollars a US pint UK Pint was 21% more liquid and even in the south of England was about £2.50 a pint then ,the ER was 1.53 $ to the pound so UK Guinness was 3.83$ and English pint!!! US Beer expensive!! 👍
Quick Quest - Im in the middle of Killing all weeds (Tenacity, Surfactant, Dye etc) and my lawn is uneven - Im leveling the lawn next with Topsoil(no sand) - Do I at the same time - Apply My Perennial Rye Grass Blend - or wait and Level and Water lawn first - then apply my Perennial Rye Grass?
Reading through other comments, the mixture covers 2800-3000 sqft and can be applied once monthly starting in June, although I, personally would start apps in May. Silver Cymbal said in another comment that he applies when temps are steadily 75.
For general spraying, I use a 12v automotive battery with a 12v utility pump, hooked up to a garden hose and nozzle. Pumping out of a standard 5 gal bucket. Also use soil probiotics with beneficial soil bacteria (Bacillus), i.e. B. subtilis, B. licheniformis, B. megaterium, B. mucilaginosus, B. laterosporus, photosynthetic bacteria, Actinomycetes, B. cereus, B.amyloliquefaciens, B. pumilus and mycorrhizal fungi (primarily Trichoderma). Soil bacteria are better as they are more resilient to adverse environmental changes. Organic fertilizer is added last.
Another nice video and I thank you for your thoughts and efforts sharing with me. May I offer a suggestion: add chemicals to the water, then slightly mix/agitate. You will eliminate foam and chemical odor emissions. You can also add your solution into a hose end strayer for easy application too. Thank you again!!
OMG 😱 😱😱😱 I just ordered those organic products. I'm trying to move away from the synthetics. Guys its all about your soil your turf will only go as far of what's in your soil. There is a great product that cost less and one the best kept secrets..... Medina I'm using it all summer to prepare for next season. My dirt comes first. As always great video 📹 👍
Love your videos! As a fellow mass resident who always has a burnt lawn with poor irrigation, I'm hoping this does the trick. I will report back feedback later this summer.!
Great information, thank you. I've been mixing up dry humic and kelp and spraying at 8oz/k², this looks easier. Just to clarify - you're using 4 gallons on 2,500 sq ft??? This is really heavy since the manufacture suggests 2 to 4 oz/k². I don't mind putting it on heavy, just wanted to make sure you're using successfully on 2,500 and not 25,000 sq ft...
That is correct, sometimes if I really step up my pace I will get closer to 4,000 sq ft but I try to aim for 2500-3000 of turf coverage with this amount.
Also meant to add that dry humic acid works very well also. Especially if you want to focus on the soil. This formula is a nice all in one that can help with the stress and still provide some other benefits.
@@gordonhutchinson529 You certainly may get some benefit but these products and concentrations have worked well for me. Other ones may too, but the price of these and amount you get along with the fact they work will have me sticking with these for a while.
How long after applying can you water your lawn or mow the lawn? Also we're coming into the beginning of August is it too late to apply this? very nicely explained and very straightforward. Keep them coming this is about the 5 video that has helped me out. Hat off to you my friend
another thing i left out to cut grass high leaving it at 4-8 inches will help to cool of providing self shade on a smaller scale and not burning and yellowing it out at 3 inches and 1 inch causing stress and to die, as well to increase fast thicker growth needing more water ,,, its more naturally ,the closer to more naturally the better, even watering if you study how it rains stops ,slows down and starts again, or waits 2 or three days later consistant rains means change of weather soon fall spring summer
Hydretain works well. Comes in liquid or granular form. I also apply holganix. Price isn't too had since I only treat about 1800 sq ft of lawn. And they both dilute with water per instructions. But... I'm gonna try your formula next summer. Seems great

Thanks for the great video. Did you consider using GSPlant Foods Root Ruckus Product? It contains both the Sea Kelp and Humic Acid. Might be a better option for those with a smaller yard who don’t want to spend as much on large product quantities.
I really appreciate that. That is a very nice comment. No I don't I am just a homeowner like you and that wanted to have good results and NOT pay others or spend a lot of money. I have always helped people but UA-cam lets me do it in a different way. I appreciate you watching my videos.
@@SilverCymbal I'm sure I speak for most of not all here when I say how appreciative I am of your generosity and willingness to share. It has rubbed off on me some. Thanks! Judging by your UA-cam handle I take it you're a drummer? Bass player here. 🎶
I can’t wait to try this!, I do have a sprinkler system and you’re right , water is not enough, I have a few hot spots on my lawn, that kinda yellow up or a deep golden color, I have just a couple of questions for you 1)after application how long before I see results? 2)How often do I apply this formula? Once a week , month? Thanks for the vid!
Remember the primary reason for this formula is to help against heat stress, not necessarily to restore your lawn but this will definitely help that too over time. Not a miracle cure but a mix that keeps your grass looking good and I do see results usually with 3 weeks but the biggest benefit is that it keeps my lawn green with my neighbors aren't and keeps things better longer and helps the overall turf. I only apply this once a month during the hotter months (over 75 degrees, most of the day) with good results. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Can I apply JUST the diluted kelp, without Humic Acid or Superthrive? I'm already applying granular humic acid to the soil on a regular basis but I see a huge advantage to getting a liquid kelp onto the grass itself. What are your thoughts SC? Keep up the great work. You're helping tons of DIY'ers just like me.
Thank you very much. Yes you can absolutely apply just the sea kelp and still gain all the kelp benefits. If you are applying humic others ways that is totally fine. Thanks for the nice words.
@@Nas_JO I'm applying granular fertilizer, granular humic and biochar (HumiChar), and then spraying liquid kelp, all on a staggered cadence, usually every 4-6 weeks. I apply my granulars prior to watering or rainfall. I spray kelp at the end of a warm dry evening and don't water for an additional 24hrs. I would like to note though, that I have since learned and bought into the logic that liquid humic (and all other boosters for that matter) obsorb better and faster in liquid form. SC DOES have the best process, I just wasn't ALL IN on liquids until now. Probably going to finish out the granular product I have now and revert to SC's process he show's here. This is what made me a believer ua-cam.com/video/IXBQQR9WVJI/v-deo.html
Already figured this all out. I just can't afford the expensive stuff I also use liquid iron and recently I've discovered mossex. I mix it with water and put 2 oz of my sprayer along with the kelp and humic acid been working very well. I have found that a hose-end sprayer works much better to evenly spread the recipe
Hi, you say add 24 oz of Humic Acid, which is 6 oz per gallon. The label on Humic Acid, however, says Optimal concentration 2 oz per gallon, Maximum concentration 4 oz per gallon. Please confirm that you use 6 oz per gallon with no negative effect on the lawn. Thank you.
@@abansalify thank you for your response. I did apply your formula and I see my grass healthier. It is 90+ degrees now and dry in Northern NJ. I think my grass would have been dead by now (despite me watering) if it wasn't for your solution. Great many thanks!
Thank you. This mix has given me some incredible results. I watered year after year and still had issues before using this. I am on a well so the water is pretty much unlimited and it still wasn't rough. Glad this was helpful.
@@Fdnymedic40 do it monthly when daytime temps average over 80, usually 2-3 times during he summer. Thats funny. I use the same exact mixture of products, the only difference is I use the sea kelp with fish. I apply it late evening right after a mow when the sun is down so it can sit overnight and then water it in early in the morning. GS Plant foods Humic is less than 8% of actual humic, it is not mentioned on the label nor is it mentioned on the companies website. I had to inquire with the company owner to find out, not pleased with a company that purposely withholds info. I will be trying the Humic12 by N-ext
@@myreplysucks7984 ... Cool. Thanks. Just trying to make it through the summer. Come fall, l will be doing the whole 9 yards. Aeration, dethatche, etc.
Thankyou for your expertise. The sun ( heat ) has browned or scorched diverse areas of my lawn. My lawn was once totally a rich-green luster but some area's that dam sun has taken its toll upon my lawn... so my question is can I bring back the lawn-parts that the sun has damaged or what else can I do to restore my lawn back to its rich green original luster?
Thanks for all the info on your lawn. Can’t wait to try this to see how my lawn takes it. Trying the Tenacity for my weeds this week! Have a great summer!!
Thank you for the feedback and for trying these I think you will have great results. I try all the losing products and only put the ones that work in my videos. Thanks again
Great question and I would like to know as well. I know that you can put the kelp and Humic down at least once a month (sometimes more if you like), but I don’t know about the vitamin.
Saw ur vid n tried to order the sea weed fertilizer utilizing the link on ur upload. But all I get is error message. I await ur reply. I watch ur vids whenever u have uploads. I'd really like to try ur recommended fertilizers. Kudos for ur uploads.
I'm in Northeast Ohio. I purchased Sea Kelp. When should I apply it? April? May, June? July? Morning or evening? Before a rain or when no rain is expected?
When temps start top go over 75-80 for most of the day I will apply this once a month. You can do it more often but this will give a good result and still keep costs under control.
Silver Cymbal , do you let this dry on the grass blades or water it in? The directions on my humic acid day to water it in after application, but I've read that sea kelp is best left on the blades...? Thanks, keep the great content coming!
Instead of diluting the mixuture to create 4 gallons, can I used a sprayer that mixes it when attached to a hose? If so, what setting should I use (gallons per minute)?
Thanks for providing the informative videos! I bought all three ingredients & mixed up my first batch today for my reel low KBG! Already found the answer to my question in the comments (how often to apply)! Thanks again!
Thank you very much, it really saves you in the long run and plus you get to control when and what you apply which is nice too. Thanks again and best of luck with your lawn.
I used your formula a couple of times and really didn’t see any difference, and I did follow your instructions closely. Lawn was still going dormant, so I watched another video and they said it was safe to dethatch in the summer because of “collected matter”. Now my lawn looks worse than ever! I ordered some more humic acid and will spread another batch of your formula, because I stronger believe it’s good for the lawn. But if there is any other advice you can give me to revive my lawn, I would gladly appreciate it. Thank you
This prevents dormancy not brings it out. Only thing that will bring it out of dormancy is a lot of water consistently. And yes never dethatch during dormant months (winter and summer) as it rips out what would be dormant good grass and insulation (thatch) needed during stress. I dethatch right before aerating/overseeding around the end of September.
I've recently stumbled across your videos and I can't stop watching everything that you have up. I have been working hard on a two-year-old backyard of grass and had soil tests done and Rutgers soil lab telling me which fertilizer and when to apply and it has come out great but we are subject to high heat in New Jersey and I want to use this secret recipe. the one question I have is I can mix this liquid formula and apply it containing humic acid but in a more recent video you have humic DG which is granular so should I put that down and then make my liquid mixture just sea kelp and superthrive and apply everything on the same day?
May i suggest, like some others do....a colored dye...prob a shade of blue?....when you apply this solution . It helps to see areas u coated when u use a hand, backpack or push tank sprayer, no spots missed. Tow behi d sprayers are more forgiving w wide booms to overlap. Seems pros use a food coloring or some other dye that washes away a few days later in the rain, no permanent dye on lawn or landscaping. I like that battery powered backpack sprayer....reasons why, besides easier to carry, and battery pump...it gives an EvEN spray pattern, vs hand pump that decreases gradually until u pump it back up. The BEST... feature is that large capacity inline mesh filter. WAY TOO OFTEN manual pump sprayers get debris stuck in the nozzles or in the wand, lot of wasted time cleaning it out , that mesh filter is the perfect design. Looks well designed.
Do you think adding a small amount of anti-foam to the mixture would be beneficial in reducing foam the foam up? I’m definitely going to give this a try! Great tip! 👍🏻😊
I know, I always hate the foam. I try to keep my videos clean but what I usually end up doing is slowly adding the water and allowing the foam to just run over the sprayer and then cap it from there. I haven't ever used those anti-foaming agents and probably wouldn't both and just keep it easier for you. It settles down on its own too. Thanks again for the support and watching.
Silver Cymbal You might give it a try sometime 🤷♂️. Just a tiny bit of it negates the foam instantly plus it sprays better and cleaner through the sprayer. A small bottle of it goes a looong way 😊
Thanks for the great content. I have been working at home for the first time in life. With the saved gas money, I have been able really up my lawn game. Your videos have been a great help. I have bought many of the products you feature and have had great results. I just received everything mentioned in this video (including the sprayer). My temps are just starting to warm up in the NW, so I am holding off for a couple more weeks. Ha even bought my own measuring cups to keep the peace with the Kitchen folks. Cheers
I use 532 or 632 ,,once a month in spring only, applications are best done at evening before sun is setting,,before that In fall I spread calcium magnesium limestone once a month, sold in home depot for 6$ for a large amount bag, this is best done before it rains, also sulfur at $6 spread once a month at different time either water or rain,,use before summer,, the other is to deeply water before the summer 3 times a week, or use rain water,,,, so when summers here you can water 2 a week ,, watering must be done evening when sun is setting all the time,,, harvesting rain water,,rainwater is best, this will keep your grass cool like a camel in the desert,,, partial shade also helps planting small trees, the wind will make the branches seem like a fan,,,the green look is iron and coloring in water either aqua green blue or green, will help, to much iron or water will yellow it out on iron will damage roots in long-term,,,,, that's all you need
Good info. I been researching the best times to water and it looks to be the early AM due to mold and other related issues that are caused by watering in the evening. Any thoughts?
morning it will cause humility with sun if sunny and will damage your grass plants and trees the water wont soak in the dirt in time,,grass likes a deep mixer of dirt in its water it takes it in and cool water ,morning time its racing itself with a mix that the grass does not like ,, it may be shaded area for whatever reason ,, shaded areas cause mold and over watering as well, shaded areas at a certain time meaning the suns movement at time, they need less water and sometimes a different time of watering like early in the evening,, thats why sprinkler systems are regulated by goverment, water restrictions
I noticed you used alot of humic acid. I believe the label on the recommended product is 2 ounces per 1000 sf of lawn. I think you are using 6 ounces per. Are you premixing with water or are you just using more than what is recommended? Thanks for the great video.
Yes I am using about 6 ounces for this application. Humic acid isn't like fertilizer and won;t ever burn and honestly most products really under apply to state that they can go further. In my experience this formula with this product worked perfectly for these applications.
I’ve heard of people using 12 or more without any issues... it expensive but works great. Really is not much of a dosage ceiling for humic from what I know.
Also, buy LOW WATER grass seed from Scott's or Pennington. They are expensive but birds hate it, it grows quickly, and needs little water. There is one problem. If there is plenty of water, the grass will need to be cut twice a week.
Thank you for this review this is awesome. My only question is would it be a good idea to combine this formula with liquid iron and spray it all down together at once?? Thanks!
Thanks for the info and formula!! Have you done a video on when it’s a good idea to dethatch a small lawn? When and what’s the best but least harmful way to do it? If not, would you please? My NC tall fescue lawn hasn’t ever been dethatched and think it might be smothered. I plug aerate every fall before overseeding and put down pre emergent. Thank you!
I’m in Houston Texas . Summer is here . Temperatures are really hot and humid . My lawn is st Agustine. Can I use this wonderful mix ? And if I do when is the best time to apply ? Do i water before or after ? Ty keep up the great work .
Yes you can definitely use it and it should be very beneficial for you. You don't need to water before or after. Its best to spray it on and have it stay on the grass for 24 hours before water so it is absorbed. Its ok if rain happens it still works into the soil but ideally the drying time works well.
Thanx for this. Your mix is... a teaspoon per 4 gallon super thrive. A cup per 4 gallon liquid kelp and 3 cups per 4 gallon humic acid. I intend to add liquid iron to my mix, what percentage or how many cups do you think that should be? (Also im leaving my mix concentrated and using a hose end sprayer to apply)
Hey, great job !! Very good video. You should be commended for coming up with your own formula. However , im just a little fuzzy on the amount to use for my area.. My lawn is just under 1400 square ft...nice size for where i am, but alot smaller than what you're doing. Do i just mix up the 4 gallons and then spray the lawn till its all wet, or do i reduce the amount of the.additives..? I understand the amound of each are not exactly critical but my area is alot smaller . Im in the northeast and can hear my grass screaming already !! Love to try it. Again, well done !!
Thank you for the nice comment. For your sq footage. I would just cut everything in 1/2. Reduce each component in 1/2 which makes it easy. Add them to your sprayer and then fill it up to 2 gallons instead of 4. This should be enough for 1250-1500 sq feet. You can apply a little less or a little more, it will not harm the lawn. I found that my amounts give the best results without being wasteful so dont worry if you are off a bit. Hope this helps.
I used your suggested 3 product formula to eliminate a lot of crabgrass and creeping charlie I have in my newly replanted this May lawn here in central Mass. That process has worked nicely and now I'm thinking I need to rake out a bit, reseed in some areas that the crabgrass choked the lawn grass out, and fertilize. Can I use this method on newly over seeded areas of lawn? I'm also using this formula in my garden with a 2 gallon sprayer.
That's great to hear. I am glad to have received a lot of positive feedback on this mix for people. Check out my other video and it takes you through my lawn renovation process and this shows what I did. Raking is always good to do but this may be a little easier. Thanks for watching. ua-cam.com/video/c54WSOI-MMc/v-deo.html
Thank you for the great video, one question: Can you also apply the same treatment to trees? I planted a row of 12 Leyland Cypress last fall and they seem to be doing fine; however, there are a couple of them that could use a boost to look as vigorous as the rest.
Thank for your sharing. It's very expensive. I have never think that we have to pay too much money for the nice grass. A nice grass need water, fertilize, correct used lawn mower. Every day, needs to water two times, 15 minutes every time, before 8 AM and after 7PM. Fertilizer : use Miracle Gro Water Soluble All Purpose Plant Food (Cosco gives the best price) and . Correct lawn cutting: never cut too short.
Awesome video. I've used products with much of the same ingredients in it with great success. How often can we use this mixture. I'd like to use it once a month considering how much my grass loves it.

Hi. I love all your videos. I just purchased the 3 ingredients and I have a couple of questions. Today is May 11, 2020, when should I put it down for the summer heat? Is it just one application or do you keep putting it down over the summer? And finally, do you have to water it in after applying. Thanks so much. Take care, be safe. Bill from Worcester Massachusetts
Still no answer. 11 0038 Jul 22, just saw the video and was wondering the same thing. Thought, Oh I'm sure someone has the same question, and here it is, of course he decided not to answer, was quick to put a disclaimer though.
Hey Gary from worc county also. Before summer hits out down Anderson pgf complete 16-4-8. You can put this spray mixture on days 80 and below. Not on days we've been having of high humidity. It will be to much stress on lawn. After spraying this stuff wait a good 24 hrs before watering so grass will suck in mixture and dry
Thank you for the excellent video. You state that this is an inexpensive version of a commercial product. What is that product? I am eager to try this, and I am looking for a granular form for easy spreading. I am willing to pay a premium for easier spreading. Again, excellent video.
What is the recommended application frequency of this mixture? For example, once per month? Also, is it recommended to water the lawn immediately afterwards? Thanks!
How about putting down a 11-7-18 fertilizer? 18% Potassium should really help the grass withstand summer heat. At least what I have read here for Scandinavia. They recommend to fertilize 1 time before end of June and I am thinking of putting down the strong Potassium fertilizer that is slow release and water it in tomorrow.
After spraying / applying solution can you please advise on watering, do you water immediately after or do you have to wait a designated period of time before watering?
How soon after applying do you water the lawn? I’ve read that watering right after applying humid acid helps move it into the root zone, but advised against watering right after applying liquid kelp so that it can stick to the blades and absorb. Since both are in this mix, what do you do?
Just 24 hours is fine, and apply it to dry grass. Usually the end of a hot day is great, let it stay on there for one day or more and water after. @@nickturbide9473 I'm in South Texas where our brutally hot/humid summer climate is similar to yours in Florida. I have a St Augustine lawn which has been thriving on organic products for the past 16 years. I'm gonna try the organic recipe that SC posted here, as I've used the 3 ingredients he listed here individually in the past with good success. Anyway, I'll stick my neck out here and say yes to your question about receiving same beneficial results to St Augustine lawn in Coastal Florida. Just my .02, but hopefully SC will chime in.

Cool
How often do you apply?
I like to apply this monthly when daytime temps are 75 and above for most of the day
Thank you. Can l use this mixture in addition to my fertilization?
Can I mix this and place it in one of those bottles that you attach to a hose?
I just want to thank you once again for the video.I started using it months ago and my lawn has never been so healthy and green even when we use to have a professional lawn care service.
I did modify the formula at my own risk last month to accommodate my backyard garden as well. Instead of superthrive I substituted it for a product called AgroThrive. I waited for it to rain a day before then applied the formula. What I notice is I have to cut the grass every 5 days and increase yield to my garden. Even with this Texas heat, lawn and garden are not so stress out like before. It's TRUE a healthy root system is the key!
What made you switch from superthrive?
I've added this to my irrigation and fertilization routine and my St. Augustine is still rocking in the middle of this crazy Texas heat. No lawn on my block looks like mine this year.
Just tried this for the first time. Looks like the lawn is already happier.
Its great stuff, plants love it. Glad it helped!
6 months since your comment, how did it go longer term? Contemplating trying this.
8 fl. oz (1 cup) of sea kelp per 4 gallons for 2500-3000 sq ft
in the video
4 fl. oz per 2 gallons for 1500 sq ft
2 fl. oz per 1 gallon for 750 sq ft
so ~ .3 cups per gallon for 1000 sq ft
= ~2.5 oz per gallon for 1000 sq ft
= 5 Tablespoons per gallon for 1000 sq ft
What are yiy breaking down, 1, .5, .25 cup of what there are 3 things are up doing it for each part for the whole or what? thanks
@Die Hard Raider For the sea kelp portion, post updated, thanks
Curious if you have any updates on your spray results for the year. I sprayed every 2 weeks adding chelates iron every other spray. I used a finer spray to try to enhance foliar absorption. Must say the lawn looked its best ever this year
Couldn’t find definite information whether humic is absorbed by foliage or only via soil drench
In my opinion the humic really helped with iron uptake and the lawn greened up beautifully
There’s such controversy out there about using any of this so I would love to know your opinion . I plan on doing it again in 2022. In addition to the reduced heat stress I saw a marked improvement in reduced soil compaction
Mid Atlantic lawn with a TTTF restoration in progress
Thank you for all your amazing content
Thank you for this video. It’s 4 yrs old video but this is my go to DIY fert mix formular every year going into summer. Thank you once again
Do you still use this formula and recommend it?
If I spray this on my kid, will my kid grow up and move out faster?
jajajajajaja

They will grow up and move to the basement!
You'll never get rid of him, he'll just grow deeper roots.
Lol
Silver Cymbal, I'm an OG Superthrive user. LOVE Superthrive! As a tank mix companion like this, it really REALLY shines!!
Coming from you with your experience this means a LOT! Thanks Matt I am glad to hear that you have had a great time with it too.
My neighbors already think I'm crazy with my lawn. Can't wait for this one 🤣
Hahaha Too funny! I can totally relate. I could be on my knees crawling on my lawn trying to pick out little weeds. One even stopped to ask me what I was doing. 🤣
I thought I was the only one obsessed with my lawn.
@@DR.ELEKTRIK lol now you know you are not! We could be neighbors... the “normal” people must think we are weird hahaha
It's nice to see a well thought out video and description. You put time into producing it and it shows. Thanks
Thank you so much for such a nice comment.
Hi silver cymbal.
How much sq feet you can coverage with 4 gallons.? And how often put down this treatment in the lawn. Thanks in advance.
I tried the recipe and 4 gallons covered ~2400 sq ft for me. I made 5 gallons of the solution to cover my 3000 sq ft lawn.
@@abansalify thanks for sharing.
I also used 4 gallons on about 2800 square feet
Quick Quest - Im in the middle of Killing all weeds (Tenacity, Surfactant, Dye etc) and my lawn is uneven - Im leveling the lawn next with Topsoil(no sand) - Do I at the same time - Apply My Perennial Rye Grass Blend - or wait and Level and Water lawn first - then apply my Perennial Rye Grass?
I see lots of questions on when to apply and how much coverage per 4 gallons . Thank you , we're waiting
Yup!
Reading through other comments, the mixture covers 2800-3000 sqft and can be applied once monthly starting in June, although I, personally would start apps in May. Silver Cymbal said in another comment that he applies when temps are steadily 75.
1 gallon per ksft.
For general spraying, I use a 12v automotive battery with a 12v utility pump, hooked up to a garden hose and nozzle. Pumping out of a standard 5 gal bucket. Also use soil probiotics with beneficial soil bacteria (Bacillus), i.e. B. subtilis, B. licheniformis, B. megaterium, B. mucilaginosus, B. laterosporus, photosynthetic bacteria, Actinomycetes, B. cereus, B.amyloliquefaciens,
B. pumilus and mycorrhizal fungi (primarily Trichoderma). Soil bacteria are better as they are more resilient to adverse environmental changes. Organic fertilizer is added last.
I have always enjoyed your vids and learned a great deal every time. Thank you!!
Very kind of you, thank you for watching,
@@SilverCymbal I concur, thank you!!
These are great ideas, thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much, please do. It's really some great stuff.
Any update?
@@SilverCymbal Thank you, I've obviously been putting this down to light...
Hat off to you my friend
another thing i left out to cut grass high leaving it at 4-8 inches will help to cool of providing self shade on a smaller scale and not burning and yellowing it out at 3 inches and 1 inch causing stress and to die, as well to increase fast thicker growth needing more water ,,, its more naturally ,the closer to more naturally the better, even watering if you study how it rains stops ,slows down and starts again, or waits 2 or three days later consistant rains means change of weather soon fall spring summer
the 4 gal mix you showed covers how many sq ft? For your typical 15k sq ft lot, how much would one need?
Hydretain works well. Comes in liquid or granular form. I also apply holganix. Price isn't too had since I only treat about 1800 sq ft of lawn. And they both dilute with water per instructions. But... I'm gonna try your formula next summer. Seems great
Thank you very much I will have to check that one out too. Thanks for the comment and for watching.

Thanks for the great video. Did you consider using GSPlant Foods Root Ruckus Product? It contains both the Sea Kelp and Humic Acid. Might be a better option for those with a smaller yard who don’t want to spend as much on large product quantities.
This is what I did.
Great tip!
Question on this - do you dilute the Root Ruckus product like the instructions say? And then use 3 cups of the diluted per 4000 sq feet?
I pre mixed this is a gallon milk jug and then use a hose sprayer on 1oz or the 1 1/2oz setting. Using on Centipede Grass in NW Florida.

@@SilverCymbal thanks for the video man! How much coverage on the 4 gallon?
Silver Cymbal still good, I now have something to aid me verses nothing.
Is this application in addition to the fertilizer every 6 weeks? How long do you wait after fertilization to do this application?
Mindy Welch so you are adding 2oz of liquid iron and mossex to the 4gal mix of humic acid, kelp & supertrive?
Hi, you say add 24 oz of Humic Acid, which is 6 oz per gallon. The label on Humic Acid, however, says Optimal concentration 2 oz per gallon, Maximum concentration 4 oz per gallon.
Please confirm that you use 6 oz per gallon with no negative effect on the lawn.
Thank you.
Humic acid is a soil conditioner. it is not a fertilizer. It has no nutrition value. it helps roots to absorb more nutrients.
@@abansalify thank you for your response. I did apply your formula and I see my grass healthier. It is 90+ degrees now and dry in Northern NJ. I think my grass would have been dead by now (despite me watering) if it wasn't for your solution. Great many thanks!

How much sq footage do the 4 gallons cover?
I'm in Northeast Ohio. I purchased Sea Kelp. When should I apply it? April? May, June? July?
Morning or evening? Before a rain or when no rain is expected?
How often does one need to apply this? I'm in the midwest, with sometimes pretty brutal sun in summer. Also, at what time of year do you apply this?
When temps start top go over 75-80 for most of the day I will apply this once a month. You can do it more often but this will give a good result and still keep costs under control.

Instead of diluting the mixuture to create 4 gallons, can I used a sprayer that mixes it when attached to a hose? If so, what setting should I use (gallons per minute)?
When is the best time to lay this down. after a cut, the day before you sprinklers turn on? thanks for the gem of lawn advice.
Thanks for the video, how many sq ft does 4 gallon cover?
I've recently stumbled across your videos and I can't stop watching everything that you have up. I have been working hard on a two-year-old backyard of grass and had soil tests done and Rutgers soil lab telling me which fertilizer and when to apply and it has come out great but we are subject to high heat in New Jersey and I want to use this secret recipe. the one question I have is I can mix this liquid formula and apply it containing humic acid but in a more recent video you have humic DG which is granular so should I put that down and then make my liquid mixture just sea kelp and superthrive and apply everything on the same day?
Thanks for the advice duly noted and ordered!!!!
You are so welcome! Thank you, it's great stuff
A small bottle of it goes a looong way 😊
I will have to check that out. Sounds like it could be an easy timesaver.

Couldn’t you just add your elements into the water and thus prevent all the foaming?

If I use a 2 gallon sprayer, will i need to cut in half each of the 3 ingredient amounts? ex: 1/2T superthrive, 1/2 C kelp and 12 ozs humic acid?
"do as you ought-ta, acid to watta". Always be mindful to add water first and than add acids.
When following your "recipe", can you also mix some Liquid Chelated Iron in it for a additional boost of green???
No
Also, buy LOW WATER grass seed from Scott's or Pennington.
Thanks!
Roman .D ...good question! I was wondering the same thing.
Me too!!!
Thank you!
In the 90s here in Illinois, Can i apply iron in the morning or evening when temps are below 90s?
I don't liquid fert above 85. It'll vaporize.
Iron might burn in these temps.
Another outstanding video. I believe you can treat your garden beds with the same results.
Where did you get liquid humic from? I stay in Houston also

Hope this helps.
i have a lot of grass to mow, and i'm not being a smart a** here, i look forward to the heat and lack of rain, and the effect it has on the grass.
Can I add this to my lawn if it's already stressing big time?
Love you channel been watching since 4,000 subs
I asked a similar question just recently. Apparently nobody knows or cares to reply.
Thank you for all the help. How often do you recommend applying this solution throughout the summer months ?
Very nice video, Im going to try this Thank You
Thank for your sharing.
Brilliant!
Awesome video. I've used products with much of the same ingredients in it with great success. How often can we use this mixture. I'd like to use it once a month considering how much my grass loves it.
Apply it monthly when daytime temps average over 80, usually 2-3 times during he summer. Even if you do it less there is still benefit but this gave the best results while being affordable, Kelp: amzn.to/2It5ZJT - Superthrive: amzn.to/2It654d - Humic Acid: amzn.to/2WyMABa - Sprayer: amzn.to/2IslQIJ
What time in the season do u recommend to spray June maybe I'm on the east coast I'm saying June before the heat starts would u agree....thanks
You can spray leading up to and through June. Just not when the ground is frozen.
What is the recommended application frequency of this mixture? For example, once per month? Also, is it recommended to water the lawn immediately afterwards? Thanks!
So this is kinda like a do it yourself version of the next products from green county fertilizer and others like it?
Wonder why he skipped over this VERY good question?? Hmmm
Does any of this work on my hair? I have a bald spot on the back of my head and would love to do something about it.
Yes, it isn't rated for this officially but I have heard rumors of it working! :)
LOL!!!!!
Might turn your hair green!
Might need a haircut every other day if it works.
Best stuff I ever made myself really given me the edge without paying a fortune for other products. Would this provide the same beneficial results to a southern lawn (St. Augustine here in Coastal Florida)?
@@nickturbide9473 I'm in South Texas where our brutally hot/humid summer climate is similar to yours in Florida. I have a St Augustine lawn which has been thriving on organic products for the past 16 years. I'm gonna try the organic recipe that SC posted here, as I've used the 3 ingredients he listed here individually in the past with good success. Anyway, I'll stick my neck out here and say yes to your question about receiving same beneficial results to St Augustine lawn in Coastal Florida. Just my .02, but hopefully SC will chime in.
John Gonzales thanks John!
