Hoping for the best Brad! This has been the hardest summer in 14 years of growing TTTF in Darnestown MD without a doubt. It’s been difficult to grow anything. Neighboring states and areas report several inches of rain, but we may have received at most 1” in the past 2 months and almost all of that came in the past 2 weeks.
Worst I have ever seen it! 30 mins from me they have gotten over 5” before I got any! It’s literally just all around but my area! I did get some this week finally but not near enough to make up for the lack of it lol
I’m in Clarksburg, MD and can concur, with the exception of the last two weeks it’s been dry with only sprinkles. I’ve been using Hydretain and irrigation of about an inch a week. The wallet is hurting as much as the grass.
Yes Brad obviously we want to see your touch on KGB. I was against adding blue to my fescue until last year. I added for the same reason. Time. I am happy I did.
Sorry for my last comment Brad. I posted it before I’d watch all the vlog. You know your game bud. You don’t need people like me butting in. You’ll sort it I’m sure. 👍
It’s simply ultra dried out Brad. The reason it’s in some spots and not others is, I believe, because the substrate isn’t holding any moisture and nutrients. As you’re pointing out, it’s in some areas because of rocks close to the surface. Other areas maybe caused by a lack of nutrients and/or compaction. Wetting agent and a compost topdressing in those areas may help. I’m with you that if you want to keep it lawned where there are rocks the only answer would be to remove them. Top work fella. 👌
Well Brad, for what its worth your lawn still looks pretty amazing considering what what its been through. Have you considered digging or tilling out some of the rocks in those bad spots next to the concrete and bringing in some good quality dirt? My renovation last fall consisted of GCI Cool Blue which is 85% TTTF and 15% KBG. Ive already ordered seed for overseeding this fall and went straight TTTF. The KGB did not do well in my lawn and its very difficult to get established cause it takes so long to germinate. I've had similar weather here and it seems most of the KGB couldn't take the prolonged heat as well as the fescue. It just seems much weaker. Hopefully you can get some consistent rain soon. We've went from drought to way too much here in middle Tn. Its been raining everyday now so now the disease fight is on. Look forward to what you decide to do in the fall!
When I had my home built, I had all the soil around the home skimmed off and replaced with premixed soil then had an underground water system put in plus had put mesh down to help keep moles out if I get any. My yard is not very big about 6000 Sq ft.
Always enjoy your content. I have TTTF lawn in Massachusetts. My lawn is only TTTF in my neighborhood and the only one that has not gone dormant due to relentless heat. Seems that the south is moving north!
Summer is the only time im glad my yard is only 2500sq ft. Ive been staying on top of my watering and fungicides since June and my yard is looking very good except my edges next to the concrete. I hope August will start to cool off so everyone's lawn can bounce back.
Zoisia and real mowed! That is a possibility in my pool area next year. I have 80/20 fescue blue and I think the blue grass struggles a little more then fescue
same here in southern VA.....i've put down disease/fungus killer just in case. it's been soo hot and humid for soo long........my grass looks like poop
It’s been such a battle with fescue this season even with irrigation that I have even thought about swapping over to warm season turf like Iron cutters Bermuda. I haven’t made my mind up yet.
Ima be honest I don’t think the fescue today is what it use to be lol. I swear I think rye and kbg are easier to maintain! Few of my buddies have kbg in the same climate as me basically and they say it’s way better than fescue and less disease prone! That’s one grass I have never grown so will see lol
In Ohio it’s been light on rain!!! I have probably the best looking yard in the neighborhood but it’s been hell. I have been pounded it with water and fighting fungus. I’m just ready to let the Kentucky blue grass, go dormant, and say screw it! !!!!
@@michaelrussell922 to be honest I don’t want any Bermuda near anything lol unless I was to put it everywhere! I would have to change shoes if I walked in a Bermuda section then walked in my fescue 🤣🤣
I would like to see KBG in the back but not reel mowed. As for the front, I would like to see you keep it TTTF but add in a variety that does a little spreading.
What’s the plan for the nut sedge? I have some as well but I’m wanting to seed earlier this year. I’m going with sedgehammer plus haven’t received it yet but pretty sure you can’t seed until 3 weeks. Also would love to see some kbg I can’t remember is that spot you were talking about irrigated as well
I sprayed sedge hammer yesterday it was a little cooler! Yes it is 3 weeks I believe. That area is irrigated my whole lawn is although you can’t hardly tell 🤣🤣
@Jeff-zc6ti somewhere close may do first of September but all just depends on the weather lol. Not wanting to get into what happened last year when it showed high 80s and then got mid 90s lol.
Probably just heat/sun stress on some of the newer/younger grass versus the older hardened off grass. Same here in a few spots no matter what I do in Charlotte. I am irrigated 2-3 times a week and deep, on my fungicide rotations like clock work every 21 days and still have some dormancy spots showing up especially in the areas getting more sun light.
I think go for it I liked to see some good kbg my neibors is all kbg he has never had to overseed atleast I've never seen him I know it's hard to video but I like to see an over seed from start to finish there's not much content on that atleast not from someone that reputable pete did one years ago
HOT N DRY.....yup..south jersey is baked. I aint chasing it.....the rain will come and cool off soon.....then ill hammer it with nitro...and or seed too..no biggie. TRY KBG.......why not I LOVE my KBG....NO REEL....2-3 inch..... its all going to coool off soon...and the rains will come in sept.
My yard is identical, the patterns look like fungus but I don't see any evidence of fungus and I have been on top of fungicide rotations. Mostly it's areas I renovated last fall near edges and in the full sun, my yard also is a hill making it worse. Fall can't come soon enough!
He’s whatever this is it’s got me scratching my head lol. Kinda looks like fungus but absolutely no lesions or mycelium and nothing that gets any shade which seems odd to me because that’s typically where fungus starts first 🤷♂️
@@Primetime_Fescue The bluegrass I have mixed into my fescue is definitely helping since it's so hot trying to seed it ain't gonna work right now in the full sun, surprisingly the blue is doing better than my fescue and picking up the slack!
We were weeks super hot and dry here in Middle TN but now we are now getting rain. But some of these yards are too far gone if people didn’t have irrigation.
When Pete Denny announced he was using KBG in the piedmont area I thought he was crazy. Now he knows it was a bad idea. Don’t do it. You may not regret it now but in a few years you will.
@@Primetime_Fescueok just don’t do the entire lawn like you mentioned until you evaluate your plot over the years Summer patch, necrotic ring spot , summer stress complex leaf spot melting out are ALL more likely in the heat of the deep transition zone
Brutal in Middle Tennessee on the TTTF. Dallis grass, common Bermuda and nuts edge is doing great!!
For the size of your lawn, it still looks great.
@@Dstromb232 thank you!

Very similar here, hopefully it’s a fluke summer and not the start of a trend!
I’ve received 0” since winter, 90-110° for the past 2 months. It’s been absolute hell over here

I’m just gonna do all kbg it’s only gonna be 1500sqft so if it doesn’t work not a huge deal I can go back all fescue
