Huge Main Setup Overhaul

  • This is a slight, temporary departure from my long-running office build series. I had an 'urgent' main setup overhaul that needed to happen sooner rather than later. The main goal with this change is simplicity. I've stripped back all of my unused equipment, slimmed the setup down and relocated the desk to a more convenient position that works for the room in a better way.
Future tweaks to this setup will be shown in other videos and as part of the main office build series.
Thanks for watching! I hope you all enjoy...

What you going to about the chair - when you working at the other two desks. It is a risk lifting that heavy big chair over your monitors etc. I am thinking it would be better to get a new desk that fit it against the wall with all the current desks/benches

Hey, a new video! Missed it a couple months back. Next thing you need is a small CRT. Something portable, like the PVM-5041q. Small, has a carrying handle, takes 12V DC in, RGB/YPbPr/Composite... Wonderful little thing. :D

Tom so good to have you back! If you get annoyed seeing cables from the "back" of the desk... why not use a piece of cloth to cover the back?
Loving the new setup.. would be great to know the cable tidying "clip" that you use to sort the cables out (the ones you can screw in to the desk).
PS I have JUST sent you an e-mail :-)

About that speaker orientation flipping - you could just put the speakers "the wrong way around" and plug the inputs in accordingly and the result would be exactly the same.

I have a set of the smaller Mackie CR3 on my desktop. I find because they are rear firing they are really difficult to get sounding right when you are at the desk, the sound opens up superbly when you give them a bit of distance from the seating position but thats not ideal for a computer/desk setup.
Think I would be tempted to try some forward firing speakers next time to see if they are less fussy.

I use a pair of Technics SB-F920 speakers (1988) powered by a Sony TA-AX2 amplifier (1981) on my "main" retro setup (NES/SNES/N64/GameCube/Mega Drive/PS1/PS2/Windows 98/Windows 2000/Windows XP). It's also my "main" bedroom setup (but not the main setup of my whole house) and I also listen to music on it; it also has a car sub powered by a plate amplifier :-P
My Windows 95/Windows NT4 machine has a pair of Altec Lansing ACS-400 speakers and an Altec Lansing ACS-250 super woofer, and my MS-DOS 6/Windows 3.1 machine has a pair of Altec Lansing ACS-410 speakers and an Altec Lansing ACS-251 super woofer, so the speakers are colour matched to the cases, monitors, keyboards and mice :)

    why not bluetooth mouse?
I use Apple Wireless Trackpad and Apple Wireless Mouse (Mighty t the moment, maybe I shall switch to Magic mouse, if it would work flawlessly with Linux)
This setup works absolutely flawlessly (apart from too small desk for 3 keyboard, trackpad, mouse and laptop on side - I constantly move keyboard to left against trackpad (i use trackpad mostly for scrolling) and band mouse on laptop on right
laptop gives me third screen and second computer, so it does not sit there idling
