Everything Mazda makes does several things better than it’s competitors for the same amount of money or less. Truly the best brand for the $65k and under market.
I feel OLD. It wasn't that long ago but..$65k used to buy a really nice new Lexus.
@@imeanithonest5704 It still does. The only Mazda that costs $65k is a fully loaded, top trim CX-90. The comparable Lexus is about $5-10k more but it’s still in the same ballpark
Even as a high earner, I wouldn’t spend $65k on a car.
In 2023 a $32k vehicle is considered dirt cheap? 🙃Inflation is out of control. Good review. 👍 👍
It's equivalent to an $18k vehicle in the year 2000. Mentally this is difficult to process.
When it comes to buying something new in the compact SUV segment this is where the price range is.
Well, the Obama-era fuel and motor regulation kind of pushed prices up pretty quickly. During grad-school, one of my Economics professors was pointing out the repercussions of greater government regulation over the auto industry (particularly dealing with incremental mileage increases).
@@ccchhhrrriiisss100don’t be an idiot. So car shouldn’t make better mpg? Dumb thing to say about the “Obama era”
@@cs1992 - Naw. The Chevy Trax starts at 22k
I purchased a 2023 CX-30 earlier this year. I had considered Toyota, Honda, Ford and Subaru models. I just couldn't find the quality and features at this price point. I had considered a CX-5 and CX-50; however, I just wanted this one for a San Francisco Bay Area/Silicon Valley daily commuter with weekend camping trips in the mountains (my wife and I don't have children yet). So, I opted for the smaller but very similar CX-30. It's been perfect for this! Best of all: I really enjoy driving this vehicle! It's very...fun. While there are a few things that can be improved, they are fewer and farther between when you compare it with other vehicles in this particular segment (most of which lag noticeably behind in terms of quality).
I am confident that I would seriously consider a CX-50 when we have children. Then again, we had family visiting recently. We took several road trips with two adults and a child in the backseat and the CX-30 didn't feel too small (although the longer CX-50 would likely help make it even more comfortable).
Driving 2024 for a month and a half. 4200 miles, about 2200 hwy. Non turbo, 17 inch wheels. Handles like a sports coupe. Delivered with a small paint chip. Dealer provided touch up paint. Pleased so far. Great value.
Going in to buy my 2024 S Preferred tomorrow- so excited! Thanks for your comment!
I love how it handles on curves or sudden lane change!
@@tcd5553How do you like it so far? And, if you don’t mind asking, what was your OTD price?
Just test drove the base model, after an obsession of the chevy trax. And was totally blown away with everything. The salesman at Gladstone Mazda let me and my Sister "Play" with the slightly confusing infotainment system. It's the non- Bose system. But, so much better than my 2013 Chevy Sonic! Love the built in roof rails to add roof rack later! Totally made my mind up! The seat felt so nice!
Reasons I chose the CX-50: infotainment is best in class factoring screen size and wireless CarPlay (makes RAV4 look archaic), dial input is safer and easy, AWD + ground clearance is great for snow and off-road, panoramic sunroof standard, and the two tone mesh and leather seats are amazing and perfect for hot climates. This never gets mentioned. Cloth seats on the competitors are awful and if you want leather they need to be ventilated so you’re way up in the price ranges now. Steering is stupidly good in fact it gets comparisons to Porsche of all things. And finally it obviously looks cool and has tons of cargo capacity too. All this for 30k is a steal.
What trim did you get?
what trim did u get?
CX-50 is the coolest SUV in the world.
I bought a 2017 CX-5 new.. Zero issues so far. Only thing I don't like about the CX-50 is the cup holder placement and the 40/60 split seats, the Mazda CX-5 wins over these trivial differences. CX-50 looks beefier and more rear seat leg room than the CX-5. Mazda all the way! Good video!
Finally a review on an entry level vehicle that isn't loaded to the gills with top of the line features … Thank you for that!
Mazda is not the biggest player in the automotive market, but what sets them apart is dependability, the quality of materials and most importantly the driving experience. My daily driver, a 2000 MX-5, 24 years old and it still puts a smile on my face!
I work at a mazda dealership. Tried to get one. Mazd hasn't been producing the base models in cx50 for a while. That was months ago so hopefully they are actually going to produce some.
I ended up woth a cx5 base myself. Couldn't say no to a cx5 for nearly 6 grand less lol. The next one will be a 50. I really do like them a lot.
Amazing car. I'm looking to buy one. Just wish Mazda gave the Cx50 a V6 option instead of turbo engine for the higher trims
The 2.5L engine is one of the most reliable 4 cylinders in the world. It actually surpassed Toyota’s current 4 cylinder in reliability within the last few years. The turbo version is actually quick for what it is and is capable of much more but, Mazda tunes them for the general market. That said, an I6 (inline 6 cylinder) would be AWESOME for the CX-50. It would honestly kill the competition. The exterior design is slick but, the cladding should be painted in the same color of the vehicle. There’s a few changes I would make to the interior but, it’s sharp nonetheless. I would try to utilize more leather and less plastic, especially around the center console and the bottom of the driver/passenger seats.
My wife just purchased a premium plus one. It’s fun, sporty, great practicality, very nice interior and the bose sound system is sick! And it’s an attractive car for sure.
I'm an old soul but 26K and under to me is considered dirt cheap.
Just traded out of my 2014 Mazda 3. A few elements of the interior didn't wear super great, but the Mazdas I test drove recently definitely had improved interiors as you've been noting. Really reliable (non-turbo for me); basically just changing oil and filters. If you can't find that Honda or Toyota, check out similar models with Mazda.
This cx50 is not made in Japan but USA. Quality control will not be good.
@@jackeroo75 not true!
@@jackeroo75the cx-50 is made in Toyota factories in the USA.
I just got the 2023 CX 5, I wish I would've looked into the CX 50 a bit more. Maybe next time.
I love this crossover. I was hoping for an 8-speed transmission with the ‘24 update, but that was wishful thinking. Mazda loves this, and it’s still a great buy. My next lease for sure!
Was also hoping for the 8 speed trans., they certainly have one in the CX90, maybe for model year 2025, if not definitely the refresh year 2026.
It would improve acceleration and MPG’s.
They need to come out with that hybrid version they've been teasing, that will totally knock it out of the park.
Yes!
Yes!
There is a CX-50 hybrid but it's only available in China right now. It is coming to North America sometime this year, but no official release date has been announced. Stay tuned.
@@donato777 yes, it’s taking forever to come to the US!
I wonder what the performance numbers will be for the hybrid CX-50. Hopefully Mazda doesn’t skimp on HP/Torq. If they can put out a CX-50 that does 0-60 in the lower 5 sec range, they’d kill the competition! Rav4 Prime has a 5.8 sec 0-60 so they need to match or do better. That said, my 2024 CX-50 does 0-60 in the low 6 sec range on a full tank of premium gas + sport mode. The handling is unreal for a small suv/crossover.
It’s interesting this motor is used across the range, but the starter sounds so different compared to the CX five
Insane Mazda Ben !! 🤍🤍
Nice of them to put cupholders under the hood 👍🏻
The engine is the same as my 2012 Mazda 5 Sport with more horse power and an extra gear. This is going to be on my list. Thanks for sharing✌
Cup holders are in a ridiculous location. Other than that it's a gem. Just wish the non turbo had at least 200 hp but it is what it is
how long is the cargo area with the seats down? and does it have remote start, adaptive cruise and lane keep?
1. Needs a better pano roof opening like normal ones work
2. Remove the rear bumper fake vents
3. Color matching cladding
The pano roof doesn’t bother me all that much. It does offer a nice touch for the people sitting in the rear. But I can understand the need for wanting it to open all the way. The rear bumper vents piss me off cause it was a missed opportunity on Mazda’s behalf. I mean, why make the front ones functional and not the back ones?! I also agree the cladding should be color matching, it’d look much sharper 👌. The only other thing that could make it better, is an optional I6 (inline 6) engine or a HO 4cyl/hybrid.
Dang, that intro, what's the hurry?
I have exactly like this one shown & I love it =D it gives Panda
$54k in Canada for the mid trim level
20 years ago(minus metropolitans) I could buy a home for that price. Good gracious! Government regulations are slowly mentally killing me.
Where was this Manufactured? And how this is compared to the CX5 in terms of quality and reliability?
I LOVE these---the design is GREAT-- and the QUALITY is far above what most makers are doing---- but DIRT CHEAP??? Obviously YOUR idea of dirt cheap and mine are VERY DIFFERENT... It's NOT Dirt cheap-- but you DO get WAY more for the money than you pay for-- IN MY opinion..
Anyways, Merry Christmas 😊
Absolutely love the looks of the CX-50. Some skid plates like Subies would be cool.
I’m going between this car or the sxe Prius prime
Overall, I think its about prefference, but when I drive my new 2023 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium it has so much technology that I was almost afraid to buy it. It sounds like I'm in an aircraft when I change the gear selector to park with the automatic parking break I think, but you can hear all these mechanisms working. I never test drove the Maxda CX 50, but in my oppinion I still prefer the RAV4, the inside is more roomy, the view is better and it sits higher, not to mention it has 203 hp with an 8 speed regular transmission, plus the AWD is optional not forced to buy it and additional gas to run it on.
The Mazda doesn't have full-time AWD. Its primarily a front wheel drive vehicle, but will transfer some torque to the rear wheels when its senses slipping. Its not like you;re driving in 4WD full time.
@@photog1529 I figured as much, but if you opt for the AWD with the RAV4 then you will have the option of using the AWD or not with the drive selector. I'm not sure if the Maxda CX 50 is set up that way. Thanks for pointing that out though.
I’m a fan of lower trim models. It’s a great looking vehicle. The non turbo model shouldn’t have the awful stop/start. It’s a deal breaker for me even though u can turn it off. My 22 CX9 is a base model sport. I don’t need 10-12 grand in unnecessary options. If they still make these in 5yrs without being a hybrid or putting stop/start on it I’ll be a buyer.
Do you mean the engine auto-stop, non-turbo doesn't have this? i also don't like that....
My ‘23 CX 50 nonturbo does not have the I-stop
My '24 CX 50 S Preferred does not have auto start/stop
@@whatuwantmomI’m thinking of the same trim. How do guy like it so far and did you get a good deal on it?
The non-turbo models don't have auto-stop...they have cylinder deactivation which automatically shuts down two of the four cylinders when the extra power isn't needed.; the turbo models have the auto-stop feature, but that can be disbaled with a switch on the dashboard. The only way to get around the cylinder deactivation is to continually drive in 'sport mode', which will kill fuel economy and make for a rougher ride. I don't like either of these feature, but at least the auto-stop can be disabled, which is why I'm considering the turbo model.
Hiii, I just want to ask the feedback of Mazda CX-50 since I am planning to buy soon, does the seat really uncomfortable to use? And is 2.5L engine better than 1.5L?? please enlighten me. thanks!
The leather seats on my 2024 CX-50 Turbo Premium are comfy but, they’re also stiff enough to hold you when hitting a corner at speed. Are they luxury soft/plush like in a Escalade or Navigator? No. But they are a perfect blend of comfy, sporty, and premium imho. As for the 2.5L engine, it’s phenomenal. Within the last couple years, the NA 2.5L engine from Mazda surpassed Toyota’s 4 cylinder engine in reliability. The turbo version does offer a noticeable difference in performance though. So it depends what you’re looking for. With proper maintenance, the turbo version will serve you well. And the handling of the CX-50 is best in class or at least in its segment.
Maybe change "DIRT CHEAP" to "LESS EXPENSIVE".
Calling it "DIRT CHEAP" seems over sensationalized.
💯 Dirt cheap in today’s new car market is a Mitsubishi Mirage - but still a stretch for some lower wage earners.
cheap? people gone crazy! people are the reason car prices are like this.
I got mine 34k after negotiation it’s 31k and around $300 a month 5k down tho
@@RealKevGotEm great deal. I got cx5 2k off.
I’ll get a 2025 cx-50 when interest rates come down a bit.
Mazda is offering either 1.9% or 2.9% for 60 months on non-turbo models; 0%/36 months for turbo models in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. You're not going to see lowers rates than these to be honest. Even credit unions can't match these rates to my knowledge.
i got my preferred package cx-50 for 28,950 with ttl it was 32k out the door and i traded my diesel pickup for it so no car payment and 2k cash lol
Mazda really went cheap with the front silver headlight accents. Instead of actual led DRL accents.
I wouldn't these dirt cheap. Looking at a 2024 CX-50 turbo...actually have a test drive set up for today. Didn't really want a turbo, but the non-turbo engine has that damn cylinder deactivation 'feature', which is a no-go for me. That feature can only be disabled when driving in 'sport mode'. The turbo model has auto-stop which I really don't want either, but that can be disabled by the flick of a switch on the dashboard. I've owned a 1979 RX-7 (bought new), a 2005 3, and currently a 2014 6. All told, 500k miles with only a failed air compressor on the 3 and a failed sensor on the 6. Very reliable vehicles, which is why I'm sticking with Mazda again.
dirt cheap? I wish and after all the dealer mark ups and taxes its always over 36,000 I have tried every imaginable combbination
Calling this dirt cheap is crazy
Got a up market CUV it absolutely is
No s**t, my daughter is looking at one and I agree with you. 30k+ and almost $500 payments?
Anyone has any latest out of door price?
Would have been nice to hear comments on the apparent new suspension dampers/ steering calibration Mazda changed for 2024
That’s only for models made in and after November
Yeah ride is still harsh on anything but smooth roads, apparently new shocks will be on models starting in November 2023.
@@HS-lz8jghow y find that out? Cause the 2024 models have already been released
0 percent financing for 60 mos. on these in select markets right now.
Where I am, its 0% /36 months on select turbo models, and either 2.9% or 1.9% for 60 months for non-turbo depending on credit.
Go on the forums and read about the complaints with the cx-50 ...not all Mazdas. But the 50 . Rear differential, over all appearance of QC ..
So 32k is “dirt cheap” now huh? Crazy
Not hydraulic hatch. Those are gas charged.
I'd buy one
I sure hope this isn't a replacement for the CX5. Some people may not want that much rugged plastic cladding . And the CX60 isn't affordable for everyone like me who chose the CX5 for it's affordability.
Cx-50 is for off-roading. Targeting Subaru Outback and for towing!
Im torn between the Cx 30 Turbo, Cx 50 turbo, or the jeep compass. Are jeeps really that unreliable? Or is it because people off road them and beat the crap out of those vehicles?
Jeeps aren't Jeeps any more.
Correction, it is touch, when you connect to Android Auto or Carplay.
And there’s also an option in the settings to leave the touch capabilities on.
I think the next generation of CX 50 shouldn’t be a rugged suv especially if Mazda is trying to move further upmarket
More rugged with lift and larger tires. The 50 is geared towards adventure type clients. All the other models in the lineup are geared towards comfort/luxury with outstanding features.
@@joshuamorin2762 I mean the CX 50 has a cool adventure look to it but I personally think that the next generation of CX 50 should focus on designing more towards luxury since Mazda been trying move upmarket as a brand like they say they have.
@@Antwalls92 they have been! Have you seen the cx90? It's crazy nice. Plus the cx5 refresh will move in that direction again. I think they need a more aggressive cx50 just like they have the Miata for the sports car purists. It's good to have variety. The issue today is every brand makes everything the same. It's boring and nothing excells at any specific task. The market is already overloaded with crossovers. So we definitely don't need more of the same.
@@joshuamorin2762 I’ve actually seen the CX 90 and I would say that it looks very nice, more upscale like near luxury, more modern and minimalist. It’s like a Japanese Volvo. I don’t think every model needs to be exactly the same either because everybody wants different things. But the CX 50 has dropped the base trim for 2024 which it won’t have no more cloth seats for the model. So, that will help Mazda push their brand further upmarket. What I like about Mazda is that they don’t make their designs the same as everybody else. They should bring back the Mazda 6
@@Antwalls92The CX-90 isn’t “near” luxury, it IS luxurious with great performance for its size/weight. Now, is the pricing the same as the German or other Japanese luxury brands? No. Mazda is definitely moving towards the upscale luxury/performance side of the market. The days where Mazda was just a Japanese tuner brand are gone. That’s not to say you can’t tune a modern Mazda though. CorkSport has a ton of performance upgrades for current Mazda models, including the CX-50. Personally, I feel the CX-90’s exterior looks like a cross between a Range Rover Sport SV(R) and BMW X5. Especially from the side & rear. Mazda has a chance to become the next Lexus or BMW. They just need to offer more powertrain options across all models, like the CX-50. If Mazda offered a I6 or 4-6cyl/hybrid for the CX-5/CX-50, they’d run the game. Especially if they provided high output options.
Is the world ending tomorrow? Slow down, less caffeine.
Awesome way to lose $18k in two years with depreciation.
Had my new CX-50 for 36 days..... 1200 miles on it... Already have to replace my rear differential. I'm soooooo extremely disappointed... I was debating between a Subaru Crosstrek and this...Should have went with Subaru.
Although unfortunate, it hasn’t been a widespread issue. And I’m sure Mazda is covering everything? Hopefully a lemon.
Ben's videos are commercials.
Like the NA engine. Needs a couple more cylinders though. 🤷♂️
V6s are historically not as good as I4 or I6s
@@TheDiameter They are every bit as good as I4s. I6s, we'll see.
@@esteban1487Are they? Because most non U.S. manufacturers are moving away from V6s… why is that?
@TheCircumference Stupid "climate change" green push. Hysterical lemmings.
I with they put their I6 in it
Dirt cheap sounds to me like bad quality. Would affordable be a better word? I paid for mine $40K. To me that's not dirt cheap.
The 2024 Base CX5 with painted plastic and acoustic glass, lower ground clearance and independent suspension made in Japan and lighter vs the Lower, wider and longer CX-50 that leaves out these niceties is such a close Match. I own the CX5 and just test drove the base CX50 they are just so close. I honestly can't choose. I will be test driving a Grand Cherokee in base Laredo trim and with Sales can be withing 5k of a cx5/cx50 and vastly superior Vehicle... Perhaps that will end the deadlock or focus me even more on my Mazda Conundrum. Classy vs Sporty rugged Plastic...
The quality of Mazda vs. Jeep is literally night and day. Jeep makes some of the worst products on the road. I'm not sure why you would even consider them. Not to mention, the overall aesthetics don't even come close.
Did you just say Jeep is a “vastly superior vehicle” to Mazda?! I mean, you might get superior off-road capabilities but, that’s about it. Unless you’re getting a Trackhawk or an older SRT8, the Mazda CX-5/CX-50 are quicker to 60mph. All the V6 Jeeps have a 0-60 in the low-mid 7 secs where the Turbo 2.5L’s are in the mid-low 6 secs. Everything else is predominantly subjective. But I’d wager the Mazda’s overall quality of interior and reliability, is superior to that of Jeeps.
Why the swipe at Toyota?
Because the dealerships are charging 10x over the MSRP and the manufacturer isn’t doing squat about it.😊
MPG sucks! Needs a hybrid! And better than a dated 6 speed transmission!
Head room sucks for ppl over 5’9”
Yeah idk about "better than" toyota in terms of reliability. It has a turbo! Which means more problems in the future and more maintenence

You do realize how engines work, right?
you realize you didn’t explain anything, right?@@TheDiameter
@@JoseDiaz-qw7mg Well if you want big hp/tq without a turbo you need a big gas guzzling v8 - which Mazda has never used. So if you want more power from a Mazda you’re going to have to use their rock solid and highly reliable turbo 2.5
@TheCircumference it doesn't have to be v8. It can be diesel.
@@spol1622 which will invariably have a turbo which is his main complaint
That is not a naturally aspirated engine. It's a GDI engine notorious for carbon build ups.......
Bad engine, but beautiful car ..
Ummm, that’s totally misinformation. Any turbocharged engine has the potential to crap out after a length of time due to carbon build up and various other issues. But that’s ANY turbocharged engine. That said, there’s a lot of people that don’t do regular maintenance on their vehicle, which is one of the prime culprits of a turbo/turbocharged engine going bad. The NA 2.5L 4cyl Mazda engine literally surpassed Toyotas 4cyl engine in terms of reliability. And the turbo version has been overall reliable as well.
Also, this is the base CX-50 which has the ultra reliable NA 2.5L 4cyl engine. If it doesn’t say Turbo, it doesn’t have one.
Can barely understand you. You really need to slow down your speech a bit 🙂
Mazda I better than Toyota, 2014 and 2020 cx5 owner.

@@XX-166 Lol please, tell me 1 1990s car that looks like this
I just recently bought a 2024 CX-50 (Premium).
In general, I'm loving it.
However, I can't help but think that the central control area/console was designed by fools.
Two main things stand out:
1) The cup holders are stupidly placed and too small. The circumference doesn't support larger cups or water bottles. Even worse, they are located so far forward that anything larger than a 12 ounce soda can comes into conflict with the dash and climate controls above it. Just 2 or 3 inches back would make this infinitely more usable. It clearly seems that this was an afterthought or just something where they said, "Cram it in anywhere."
2) The wireless charging pad is poorly placed and poorly designed. The pad is located so far back and tucked under the storage console that it's hard to see. What's FAAAR worse is that it has very limited functionality. If I try to use it to charge my phone I get a message "Wireless charging not available." I asked the dealership about it and they said that it appeared to be a size issue (though a Google Pixel 6 Pro is NOTTTT an overly large phone by today's standards. I then looked in the user's manual. It says the phone must be Qi compatible at under a certain voltage (which it is). However, then there's a little note that says it may not work if, "The mobile device is placed in a position extremely deviating from the center of the charging area." What this REALLY means is the charging pad is so poorly designed/sized that it will only work with a very limited range of phones. Since this was one of the main reasons I went up to the premium trip, this really pisses me off. I frankly feel like I've been the victim of a bait-and-switch -- they claim they have a feature (semi-universal wireless charging) which they do not.
So, in general, a nice car, but some really stupid things:
Dude talks so fast. Great test drive. NOT
CX5 is way better than the 50 for sure.
Naaaa
I'm buying a new car in 1 month and yes the CX5 WAS my 1st choice until I heard this from my mechanics yesterday. My mechanic works on my car since day 1 and a very honest & good guy. He said: stay away from Mazda. Mazda is good for mechanics not for you. Sorry Mazda. Gotta go with the Camry XLE.
I've had three Mazdas (including an RX-7 purchased new in 1979) with a total of 500k miles on the them. In all those miles, my only 'forced' maintenance was a failed air compressor on a 2005 Model 3 and a failed sensor on my 2014 Model 6. Extremely reliable vehicles, but it is possible to get a lemon. Looking to trade my 6 for a CX-50 turbo.

Alot of mechanics prefer the simple engineering and automatic transmission. Its built to last and the CX 50 is literally built in the same factory as the rav4. Mazda recently had a partnership with Toyota as well.
