Derek couldn’t have found a better person to help him with his car on that long journey. The quality of replacement parts these days is appalling, which is ironic considering the simplicity of design. Ignition parts such as condensers, points and spark plugs are some of the really well known offenders. I love that care pack you put together for him at the end. Talk about a great gift!!
Some real in depth information there Paul. That was very thorough and easily understandable. That's what I like about you, down to earth, brass tacks information that's easy for a simple guy like me to understand. Thanks for sharing, I hope y'all have a wonderful, safe weekend.😀
Never thought I'd be watching a video about a mode a distributor but here I am and I watched the whole thing haha. Thanks for helping Derek, Paul. Can't wait to see what you guys have cooked up in the future!
I would LOVE to see a long cruise video with both channels and others. Like a partial Route 66 tour or something. Everyone parading along together in their Model A's and T's.
Bout time Derek started tinkering on that thing I've been waiting Loved his 700 mi road trip I'm an old man and hope I live long enough to see it done!
Despite your health issues, you still seem to have way more energy than I do. Lord bless you Paul, and I pray that you are feeling well! Thank you for posting! You went so fast in this video I may have to watch it 25 times to get everything you did, but I loved watching it!
It's always nice to find people that are passionate about what they do, and are also willing to help others along the way. You and Derek both seem to be like that. His Model A video was one of my favorites, and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.
Well I'll Be Dipped. Way to go Paul. I found your channel from Derek's Model A video, subscribed, and watched many of your back catalog videos since then.
Paul, another great video. Great explanation on on the condensers. ~60+ years ago in high school auto shop we learned how to test condensers. Another quick way the teacher showed us using a cheapy ohm meter is to connect the meter leads one way (+, -) and then switch them (-, +) and watch the needle move. If no movement, bad condenser. Of course, as young degens we quickly found out how much fun it was to "charge" a condenser, then hand it to someone. Haha. Have a great day and stay cool.
Thanks CHEP!! Hey, you and I have something in common, you know... I am an electrical engineer and work in broadcasting building/fixing radio and TV stations for a living. I am the CE of 8 radio stations full time, so do a lot of soldering!
I realize this is months later, but I wanted to write and say thank you for your great content. I discovered your channel through Vice Grip Garage. I’ve always wanted a Model A and the amount of information I’ve picked up from you is invaluable. Thank you again. ~ Chuck

Looking forward to seeing his car get going in the workshop after seeing his trip home with it. Nice one getting him started on it and offering the extra parts, the water pump especially. Enjoying seeing all your videos on the Model A.
Man, This guy is super knowledgeable. I watched him do a service on one of his cars and I was really impressed. Came over to check his channel after Derek spoke about him. He’s definitely the go to guy.
Thanks for helping Derek. He is a good guy, but sometimes he needs a lot of help. Loved the distributor rebuild so the next time Dad has a problem with his 31 Model A Coupe, I should be able to help out more. Had to change the coil a month ago to make it run.
Just subscribed to your channel. I had 0 intentions on watching you rebuild that distributor but somehow I couldn’t turn away from your presentation. Outstanding job!
I'm totally impressed with Paul's posts! Friendly and entertaining information! Paul's postings have inspired me to start looking for a Model A for myself!
Paul,I already have a car in mind to save. Been sitting in a dry California garage for 30+ years. 90% intact. Was bought as a street rod project(*shudder*)that never got off the ground. If it was just a body and some frame rails it wouldn't bother me. But when something has made it this long and is almost completely intact I believe it should be restored, not cut up. I'll be seeing the owner this weekend and going to discuss its possible sale.
You have gotten me hooked attached viewing you videos about the Model As!!! I really appreciate your knowledge, enthusiasm and mentoring Model A owners and the next generation. I am looking for a Model A since watching your videos!! Your the Model A guru.. thank you for your service...
Nicely done Sir. My first car at 16 was a '28 Tudor. Matchbook cover to set points. Spare belt Water Pump to crank when the Generator turned red hot due to Cut Out defects. Rubber smell was first indication. We used to leave charged condensers on the Garage office countertop for Fiddlers!
@@ModelA Thanks Paul, you and Derek taught me so much with the Model T like the right pedal is a transmission brake, not a wheel brake and the throttle on the column. Back 100 years ago you had to have real skills as there was no auto club or Triple AAA. Amazing!
This is a good distributor rebuilding video. Supposing if the ignition were converted to 12 volt electronic, you'd be surprised how much more pep that flathead 4 engine would have.
It wouldn't make any difference. The spark would still be exactly the same because for 12 volts, you have to run a resistor in series with the coil primary.
Wish you were around when my a was original. Some excellent teaching skills going on here. I👀 your ak loudspeaker in the background. Stopped collecting about 20 years ago. Cheers Paul. 🍻👍👍🇺🇸

excellent video. we were having intermittent electrical issues and found that the longer metal tab on the new lower plate (modern points and condenser) was shorting out even though we put black tape on the end. We then trimmed the tab way back and no more issues.
I have to be honest, I didn't get any of this one ha ha, I usually get at least part of it! But I still enjoy it like a podcast, because your "radio" voice helps me concentrate on my tasks!

The regulator in the one wire alternator will drain down the battery in a couple weeks. A battery disconnect is a good idea.
