The development version of Street Fighter EX that was developed by ARIKA and distributed by CAPCOM.
About:
Street Fighter EX (ストリートファイターEX?) is a 2D head-to-head fighting game with 3D graphics, originally released as a coin-operated arcade game for the Sony ZN hardware in 1996. It is a spin-off of the Street Fighter series co-produced by Capcom with Arika and was the first game in the series to feature 3D polygon graphics. It was followed by an updated arcade version titled Street Fighter EX Plus, as well as a PlayStation-exclusive home console version titled Street Fighter EX Plus α, both released in 1997.
Gameplay:
he Street Fighter EX fighting system uses fighting systems of the Street Fighter II and Street Fighter Alpha series. In many ways, EX still plays like a 2D fighting game, but the linear plane in which characters fight often changes along a 3D arena. The game uses special moves and super combos familiar or similar to previous games in the series. Like in Alpha and Darkstalkers, the super combo gauge, used to do Super Combos and other moves, was divided into three levels. The game introduces various new features to enhance the player's choices while fighting.
Aside from throwing the opponent or wearing away their health by using special moves to drain it, another way to fight blocking is the "Guard Break". The Guard Break is a move that, if it connects with the blocking opponent, breaks the block and makes the opponent dizzy. The Guard Break can be used at any time with one level of the Super Combo gauge.
A special move can be done after a regular move or another special move; this is called "Canceling". In the process of doing a Super Combo, another Super Combo can be performed. This is called "Super Canceling" and can be done with Super Combos.

Fun fact, on the character select screen, the character resembling Kairi is named "shujinkō" which is Japanese for "main character" or "protagonist", which makes sense as Kairi was initially meant to be the main character. Also, Hokuto is named "kobudō onna", which means "kobudō girl", and kobudō, or koryū, is a word for ancient Japanese martial arts.

Lieutenant Pie Imo, Kairi is still the main character of EX. He carries more weight in the story than Hokuto does.

This is a very interesting find. As as long time fan of the SF series I must say after watching this ,the first EX game really came a long way development wise. The EX series is clearly underrated and it shows how many of the games elements were passed down to Street Fighter IV and onwards (yes I went there). If only Arika and Capcom put their differences aside and just make one more game...

I just love how Arika had the characters vibing to the music in their stances.
Thank goodness for the more original tracks. I think that made EX into what it is. As cool as it would of been to have Arika renditions of the already established Street Fighter tunes. I think they made the right call doing all original tracks.

Man, even if the music is recycled from SFII, Arika still managed to make it sound amazing like with the final OST. They could have totally made the character select remix an unlockable track in the PS1 version IMO.

Looks more like a video glitch/video quality issue, than an intentional in game animation.
Nope. It's a video artifact either from VHS conversion or from v-sync. If you pause and look frame by frame, you can se the line affecting Pluma's eyes, and Jacks's hat as well.
You can see similar artifact on Ryu's cheek and nose on the big portrait around 1:42

@@Miguelnoriega2 That is true lol! I believe SFA3 was the first in the mainline SF games (yes the Alpha games are considered mainline despite the name) to have brand new melodies for each character.
@@sdlock83and for worse. The Alpha 3 tracks could not hold a candle to SF2, Alpha 1 and 2, and the X-Men and Marvel game OST. Still, the Alpha 3 music was still better than the SF3 Third Strike soundtrack.
@@Jahn_Pah_Jonz I agree! The music in the SF3 meta-series were God awful! It's like in the late 90s when Capcom couldn't hire halfway descent composers and resorted to have interns do the music. Can't stand the jazzy and hip-hop BGMs of that era of Capcom.
@@sdlock83 yes. The X-Men and Marvel game soundtracks were amazing with exception of MvsC 2. That was just a Capcom glorified Mugen game and the Marvel characters felt out of place.
Like, ripping just the music audio from this beta would be hella nice, the ryu and character select themes sound really good in this soundfont

The characters is like to dancing with the music.
Project from Capcom and Arika. First 3D Animation Project of Capcom to support with Arika before Fighting Layer in Arcade and PSone.
Allen and Kairi looked cool even before the overhaul and final touch up of the game.
The model's shadow and the early idle animations are kinda similar from Fighting Vipers, it seems they used the same engine.
I love seeing things like this, because it shows most, if not all of the development progress of what made the games we loved.
Would definitely love to see Capcom Fighter All-Stars as well; was really looking forward to that game back in the day...
1. You didn't play it. In fact NOBODY could play it because it was cancelled.
2. Apparently it was cancelled because of "negative feedback". So who knows, as again...with what happened to Legends 3 nobody can trust that "reason".

Street Fighter's answer to Virtua Fighter, it's too bad the Sega Saturn versions of these games were cancelled. Arika was having trouble porting these to Saturn and Sega didn't help them with the porting process.

If you want to support ARIKA we're trying to bring ARIKA for an interview and also to make a future tournament let the others know about it.
They'd actually be doing everyone a favor if they ACTUALLY MADE A FIGHTING GAME WITH THE EX CHARACTER FOR ONCE instead of just having the rights to the characters and never using them. Seriously, what's the point of them having the rights if they aren't even gonna use them? Plus if you could ask them about actually using their characters for a stand-alone fighting game that'd be cool :V.

I loved how that early version of 'Stronger' (Theme of Garuda and Evil Ryu) in this prototype sounds. I laughed when they used the 'Player Select' from SF2 for the character selection screen I wish they left that as well. 2:07 That Ryu theme is catchy as hell too though Alpha-vibes from it.
Omigod it looks so horrible, but the final product was extremely underrated. Had an excellent soundtrack too.
Skullomania looks horrible....but the rest of the characters just look unpolished
