- So fun going back to cover these older SF Games. The EX series definitely has my favorite SF soundtrack of all time and I have nostaligia for the chunky 3D graphics and those awesome, dynamic replays after each round.

for some reason the evil ryu teleport is infinitely more scary when he’s just staring you down, almost circling around you like a predator to its prey
You can hit E.ryu out of his at the end of it but you can't hit akuma out of his.
this is part of the reason why SF can’t evolve and why SF6 was struggling in it’s early stages of development. They simply just refuse to implicate this mechanic that Evil Ryu, Bison, Dhalsim, Shin Garuda, and Dark kairi had in to modern SF games. They always try to play it safe and keep it 2D.

@@EBKDanteMustDie Not really, it messes with a lot more than that. Namely stages and backgrounds.
For anybody interested, that alternate Hokuto has her dressed as a miko, a shinto shrine maiden. Her "weapon" is a gohei, which is paper streamers attached to a stick. In real life the gohei is used in ceremonies to purify things of negative energy. In games and stuff that sanctifying power usually transfers over to it being a weapon that fights ghosts and demons. If this version of Hokuto is out to purify some demons, then Akuma better watch his back xD
That makes me think, it'd be kinda funny/cool to see a "pure" version of Akuma
@@no64256 but then he wouldnt be called Akuma anymore, because "Akuma" is the japanese word for Demon/Devil. BUT i have to agree a "pure" version of "Akuma" would be amazing like an holy/heavenly fighter or something like that.

@@LazurBeemz yeah thats right i forgot about it, but if i'm not wrong Gouki wasnt ryu and ken sensei, or was it Gouken and i'm mistaken? I'not pretty sure about it and dont have the time now to confirm that. Anyway thanks for the reply 🤟👍 .

I freaking love this Street Fighter spin-off series, underrated as f*ck, i used to play EX+ Alpha and EX 2 PLUS for hours and hours on my PS1. I love the mini games and the combo trials, remember trying to complete all of the combo trials on every characters and my fingers were dead.
Got both SF ex+ Alpha and Ex 2+ in my modded PS-VITA... And Android cell phone using the FPse emulator...🤓🤯...

There’s something truly magical about this series.
That's because it was made by the original creator of SF2, who left Capcom near the mid 90s. It has the same feel of brilliance of SF2.
The game made a minor revolution for 2.5d fgs providing a great model for later games. It's much better than contemporary games by Capcom, SNK, Midway, etc. Like Rival Schools, Samurai Shodown 64, MK4, etc.
@@carlosaugusto9821 It also revolutionised several fighting game mechanics and game modes. Guard breaks, special and super cancels, just frame cancels, cinematic “Meteor” attacks, trial mode, comprehensive training modes etc. phenomenal series.
@@carlosaugusto9821 I always thought it was crazy how futuristic and ahead of the times this game was only for it to take place after SF2. This game would theoretically be past sf3 in reality

you're dealing with a youtuber who's capable of doing frame perfect combos so expect frame perfect transitions :))

AFAIK, DB FighterZ and Smash Bros are the only fighting games with the old-school unlocking ways nowadays.

I remember that even before inserting the game disc into the Play Station all of those years ago, the cover with Ryu in the black backdrop excited me so much. I remember using the cheat codes to access the secret characters and it was so much fun. Ex Plus Alpha may be a floaty game and the visuals of course are old school 3D PlayStation 1 visuals, but it looked great for its time and still looks cool to this day and the music is timeless. I can't remember if I only played Ex 2 in the arcades or if I also played the first, but I remember my parents taking my brothers and I to the arcades where we would play it and then we would go out for ice cream. Those days were just something else. While I love the modern age for video games, the 90's and early 2000's was the beginning of my journey and it will always have a special place in my heart.
SFEX is my favourite SF series because of super to super cancels, no other SF has more insane combos

Excel mech is my favorite when you learn making combos connecting two excel it was orgasmic.
When creating SF4, maybe capcom was thinking of the EX series. Even SF5 and 6 were kinda like EX.

Both the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 versions of 3rd Strike allowed for Super Art to Super Art Cancel, but it would have to be enabled in the System Direction menu. You can do it, just not by default like in the EX series.
That loop of Akuma's ended up becoming Kairi's in EX2Plus

I remember when I first played the EX series in arcades. My mind was blown to see Street Fighter in 3D. Oh yeah, and you got to love those ragdoll physics. They looked like they were in so much pain the way their bodies twisted in the wind. If only they could bring that back for SF6.😁
Some extra info about the cycloids IIRC:
Cycloid β(Beta) copies from one half of the roster, and it’s specials are motion-based.
Cycloid γ(Gamma) copies from the other half of the roster, and is beta’s charge-based cousin.
Interestingly, both of them copy one move from Garuda, and neither of them borrow from Dhalsim & Sakura (who weren’t in the arcade release).
Could anyone else elaborate more on Bloody Hokuto though? It’s been years since I’ve played this game and my memory’s fuzzy.
More info about Cycloid Gamma, he was created by Pullum Purna's father (who was working for Shadaloo)
Unlike Beta, Gamma has personality and shows emotions.
He likes to escape from Shadaloo's base to travel around the world to learn new techniques.
sakura was the worst character in all ex games competitively anyway. not even in ex3 she got ro to breathe lol
All I remember from Bloody Hakuto is how she gets access to Kairi's Ryuko Ranbu, but that's it.

Use to play competitive challenges in the arcades here in Sydney Australia until they started closing down all our arcade parlours. I remember playing this on ps2 against my brothers and they didn't know I was using computer garuda lol they picked garuda but the damage was different and they keep asking me how I kept teleporting from their combos LMAO good memories.

It feels weird but I've always preferred the EX series as the best 3D street fighter games
The 2.5d combined to the fact it was made by the original maker of SF2 made it feel like the true evolution of SF in the mid-late 90s. Indeed it was a matter of time... It took a disastrous stubborn last attempt at 2d with SF3, which killed and buried the franchise for around 10 years, but then Capcom understood that 2.5d was the way to continue the series. Just what SF EX started in the 90s. It provided a good 2.5d fg model for the fg world.

Also it didn't kill SF for a decade since Capcom made plenty of crossover games between III and IV.
Still salty, all these years later, that my online submission for the _correct_ means to unlock "Evil Hokuto" (that had been incorrectly printed in GameFan magazine) was reported as false & pulled across multiple sites by a single person, only for that same sack of shit to re-submit MY method of unlocking her in his own fucking name two weeks later. Never got a single site to correct it, either.

Doctrine Dark is a playable character from the Street Fighter EX series.
Story
Born in Germany, Dark once served under the orders of Guile with his own special tactical reconnaissance unit. During his tour of duty, his own unit got into a bit of a scuffle with another rival unit, lead by Rolento. The minor scuffle escalated into a full-on battle, with both sides receiving heavy casualties. Doctrine Dark was the only member of his unit to escape. However, he was severely injured emotionally and physically. Outfitted with a portable breathing apparatus, he eventually escaped from the hospital and went into hiding, only to re-emerge as the deranged psychotic killer Doctrine Dark. Dark holds Guile responsible for the massacre of his unit. He blames Guile for not training him well, whom he accuses of being more concerned with chasing after M. Bison to avenge Charlie than with the safety of his own men. For these reasons, he seeks to kill Guile as a result.
Dark's fighting style can be comparable to Scorpion from the Mortal Kombat fighting games series, with his signature move being a wire that catches the opponent and can either drag them in for a combo (like the Mortal Kombat character) or electrified. He also makes use of concealed blades and explosives.

Fun Fact: There's a "Bonus Edition" of this game, called *Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha Taru* (Taru means "Barrel" in japanese).
One of the main features of this edition is the 4 extra characters (CPU Characters not included) have their own Expert Missions (the original release do not feature Expert Missions for them).

This is the most no bullshit (aside from excel) fighting game that is 3D that you'll ever actually get. A certified hood classic.
I dont care what people say. This is one of my fav sf games ever. It was great in the 90s and it still holds it to this day. Nostalgic working graphics, great controls and even better music.

As a poor kid with limited funds I had to cherish my time with game. Getting a hold of a magazine with detailed info art and character bios was a God send. The Ex games had an almost magical feel to them.

Well nice to see you having fun with the _SF EX_ series again, especially that transition at 02:13. Shame this was the only game that either of the Cycloid characters (and Bloody Hokuto) appeared in, though maybe they didn't come back given how Cycloid's arm growing monstrously big manages to be even more off-putting than when C. Jack does it. [/only half-joking]
I loved EXA and EX2+, great games, obviously the graphics are dated now but they played really nicely and it was fun to link the supers. The EX series had really interesting characters too, characters that we've never seen since :(

this is amazing comprehensive explanation for a question i had for years why we unlock secret characters with same moves and looks and name to playable characters never knew there was difference and hidden advantages and no wonder garuda and akauma were so hard with cpu playing them

We used to play this with all the guys almost every day and full sunday afternoons , such good times, we had so many great games and fighting genre was really popular, even today I see stuff we never figure out or just had no idea existed.
This game was so fun. I love it. Ready a rerelease of this game at some point. It's so fun and the graphics and soundtrack are fantastic.
Evil Ryu not only has Dan's kick special he says the same line while doing it and it honestly sounds like the same audio clip from SF Alpha Dan.
Those meteor crashes at the end of the fights are so nostalgic ☺

Memories I bought this game from Woolworths before I even had the ps1! 3D streetfighter at the time was mind blowing at the time. I still have this game. May have to dust off to try n unlock all them characters.
