- Yummy homemade sour cream!
2cups heavy cream
1/4 cup sour cream
Mix together and leave on your counter for 24-36 hours. Let sit in fridge at least 24 hours before you use.
Once you have an established sour cream you can use your sour cream to make future recipes instead of store bought. Use 1/4c of your sour cream along with the 2 cups cream and let it sit the same way .

Little Hill Homestead
That's so easy! Why do we buy it?! Crazy 🤪
Right?!?!
you can use your home-made yogurt for sour cream. Instead of the cream use whole milk and your yogurt culture.
Interesting! I always have yogurt in the fridge. I’ll have to give it a try.
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa Hi there, just a tip. I agree with @alteredLori. The point of making it homemade and homesteading is whole ingredients. That kroger cream has additives; even dangerous ones such like carageenan etc! So your sour cream you made here has those additives now; which is more then the Daisy's alone lol!!
I'm going to try this because when I've tried to make sour cream from scratch the other way, it never tastes like real sour cream and I have to thicken it. Thank you. And, yes, it's great and important that people can start with the "basics" to be able to go forward. Keep up the good work. I never imagined I could make any of the stuff you buy in the grocery store. 🤩
Hope you enjoy
Who knew it was that easy? Love your stove btw!
Thank you! We named her Pearl and she is a beast.
New subscriber here… I loooooove your stove! Thanks for sharing what you know!!
Thank you! Her name is Pearl and she is from the 1930’s. We love her too.
Again, thank you for the great & easy recipe. I love the idea of making my own sour cream.
Hope you enjoy
I'm trying this. The sour cream is no longer cheap. Even at Aldi.
I know! I love Aldi but even their prices have gone up. I hope you like it.
YOU Go Little Hill Homestead ‼️‼️ Thank you for your energy 💜🫶🏿 It
Thank you! Means the world to me.
All I know is… I just need that vintage stove 😊
Thank you! We love Pearl.
I make creme fraiche using high fat heavy cream and whole milk cultured buttermilk. 1 cup heavy to 3 Tbsp buttermilk. Just combine in a glass jar, stir and cover jar with a coffee filter and let it sit at room temp for 24 hours or until thick. Then what I like to do is transfer it to a nut milk cloth lined colander, over a bowl and covered with plastic wrap and strain overnight in the refrigerator. This makes a really thick cream. Thicker than Daisy sour cream. It lasts a long time in the refrigerator and unlike sour cream, it doesn't curdle when cooked
Great video, simple instructions....thank you for sharing!
Oh, Knudsons and Carnation in Ca, brought back memories.
I found this after seeing a post about what's in sour creams. Daisy has the fewest, and costs less than homemade.
We use plain yogurt instead of sour cream.
I'm in Canada sour cream is under $3 cream is over $6. I'll just buy sour cream and use cream for my coffee.
Totally get that. I buy cream on sale and it’s less costly than the cleaner ingredient sour cream we buy. If you find cream on sale it is worth a try.
Now is your price comparison also in comparison to the volume? Will $6 of cream make the same volume of $6 sour cream ? In my location I can buy a quart of organic cream for about $6.49, and a quart of sour cream is almost the same at $6.99.
My local store brand has an alarming amount of crap in it. That in itself would make the price difference worth it to me.
It probably doesn't matter to you, but there are dry measure, Measuring cups, and wet measure.
I have both and use them correctly most of the time. Sometimes I am lazy 😂
Thanks!
Thanks for the video!
I used those plastic lids to make vanilla and after a while the alcohol evaporated because they aren't air tight. Learn from me.😂😂
I'm cleaning my fridge out today and I bet I had three or four jars of leftovers with those lids. I use them all the time.
I love them. I tried to pack liquid to take to work one time. Only took the one time. What a mess!
wow that is crazy amazing thank you Ali!
So easy!
Thank you. Pretty simple and easy. Unfortunetly here in Canada the heavy cream would be way to expensive.
You can make your own!
Love this! Going to try this! Thanks!
Hope you like it!
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa It is on my counter right now! Will check it later today!🙂❤
Just found your channel. Now I am binge watching your videos. Where do you get your aprons?
I make many and a few are from Amazon. The one in this video was from William sonoma.
Thank u for this. Xantham gum makes me cough…
How about inoculate with Greek yogurt instead ?
I’m sure it would work but it wouldn’t be sour cream as the end result.
Daisy sour cream has no additives. It’s a great sour cream. A good heavy whipping cream is more expensive than Daisy sour cream. Thanks for showing how to make sour cream though.
Do you know what’s in your heavy cream to make it so thick?
It just says heavy cream on the ingredients.
Can you use whipping cream?
Yes you can!
Can you show us how thick the homemade one turned out?
The next time I make it I totally will. It’s pretty darn thick and lovely. It’s similar to the grocery store but slightly more creamy in a wonderful way.
So to make sour cream...I need to buy sour cream...
Just the first time.
Can you use whipping cream we don’t have heavy cream thx for the reply
Yes you can
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa thx sister 👍🏽 I’ve subbed
Once prepared..how long before placing it in the fridge??? TIA
24-36 hours. Longer for more sour taste.
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa thank you
Then do I use 1/4 cup of my homemade sour cream to make another batch?
Yes you do. Just repeat with your own as the starter.
How long does it last in the fridge?
2-3 weeks. I typically use the Best Buy date on my cream as my use by date.
So you use the item you dont have to make the item you need? 🤔
For this one I do to start the base. Moving forward you use your own. They sell cultures you can use but they are significantly more expensive.
