Thanks again. I just finished the job without a lift. Took 20 hours. 6 of those hours was getting Engine and Transmission to mate.
Great Video. I have 235k miles on my 2009 Honda Fit with the original transmission and clutch. I suspect I'll be referring back to this video sometime in the near future. I appreciate you sharing the knowledge.
This is hands down one of the best mechanic channels on UA-cam. He shows every part of the process and explains while doing so. Thank you Rust Belt Auto, your work is appreciated.
For some reason your videos dropped off my personal UA-cam horizon, but I remembered the 'Yo!" and found you again. This is an excellent walk through of a manual clutch repair, brilliant lighting. Even in experienced hands, I see it can be frustrating, moreso if you don't own a lift. I love these old manual transmission cars.
Looks like you're really moving up with the subscribers. Congrats.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! My 07 fit has over 400k miles on it and hopefully i can add more with my new clutch. This video literally saved me over a grand. #fitisgo
WoW congratulations. 400k miles. mine is on 181k miles.
Thanks for the vid somone with a Honda fit who needs a new clutch for their fit will love this video. Very detailed vids.
Great detail in your videos. Thanks for showing us how a true mechanic does the magic.
Likely gonna have to do this soon on my 09...excellent walkthrough of the entire job...however, this makes me not wanna do it by myself😅
The comments say it all. GREAT JOB!
Great video. I always put ant-seize on all my bolts and where the axle shafts go into the wheel hub, so it will be easier to remove next time.
Anti-sieze changes torque values, and if a mechanic uses it all the time, it would smear onto everything he owns. It has it's benefits, but I use it sparingly.
I miss the live streams, hopfully more videos to compensate
Too many arseholeoe's for live streaming.
Combat boots and a cheater pipe…. That breaker bar had no shot!
@@RustBeltAuto you got that right! Too bad.
@@RustBeltAuto 🎉 happy new year bro ! OK bye
Bread trick, I learned something today
“Deez nuts get torque’d to 54 ft-lbs” 25:48 lol
Just realizing I have not done a clutch in a few years. It used to be such a regular job.
All GE8 Honda Fits were assembled and manufactured in Japan.
I’ll be your friend. I appreciate how much you explain everything!
Denver, CO THANK YOU ❤
I have an 08 fit, I'm waiting on my clutch and parts from rockauto. RWD is Soo much easier to get trans out even tho they're heavier. All my vehicles are manual😂. Camaro RS, Honda fit, Nissan Sentra, Harley Davidson. All I need is a big manual diesel truck😂. Mine was stuck on the alignment dowels. Kept pushing and pulling and trying to pry. Sprayed with penetrant multiple times during. It eventually came apart
Keep up the good work!!! I like your videos!
Fantastic video well done. 🙌
What are your thoughts about doing this job on the ground in your garage with no lift?
People do.
Wow well done 👌but this disassembly and assembly is a nightmare.
This is a great video. I love the humor and the torque call outs. It was a little different for my Gen 1, but mostly applies. Then I ran into the problem - almost done. The drivers side axel seems too long. I can't get the A arm pin to line up with the wheel assembly. I unbolted the top of the assembly and got the bottom to reach but now I can't get the top to align. What is in the axel assembly? Is there something inside those boots that can come apart and not go back correctly?
@@robbyrhaynes the inner joint is a slip yolk, if that is what you're asking. They can pull apart on most axles.
@@RustBeltAuto How do you get them to go back together?
@@robbyrhaynes if you made that mistake, you can remove the banding, pull the boot back, and put humpty dumpty back together again, or get a new axle.
Thank you very much for this video! If I don't have a lift should I still go for it?
People do.
@@RustBeltAuto Copy
Yo. I miss your hilarious videos. Can you do a video on scan tool values, what values should be and when there is a problem?
Thanks for sharing God speed 🙏
Another broken breaker bar on a Honda axle nut. Coincedince?
I broke my Craftsman Breaker Bar on my Jeep Leaf Spring Bolts, Sheared the on tab off the Bar. It was an OLD BREAKER BAR that was my Grand Fathers, PISSED ME OFF.
That one bolt can be gotten easily if you remove the heat shield
This man is a genius! 🤣
Really, I can do this, wouldn't be the first clutch I've replaced, but WTF this is ridiculous. Whatever happened to unbolting the tranny (no not that kind) and dropping it, does everything else in the car have to be attached to it?
Sounds like you didn't know what you bought. Most people have that problem. There are much worse out there, trust me.
@@RustBeltAutoI’m watching this because this seems so easy compared to other manual fwd cars (cobalt etc) help me determine what one to buy lol, this seems doable in a garage with no lift or power tools
Wtf!!!! The bread thing I thought was some weird joke…..lol
3/4 inch drive breaker bar and 3/4 inch drive axle socket never break.
Big Nasty wins again!

I live in Canada and manual Honda Fit's are not that uncommon. There are 5 listed for sale on Craigslist.
I wonder if they are not gen2, or assembled in Japan?
afrikaaa here
Greetings alien.
crapsman
Special order just for a manual? There's lot's of these manual Fits in Canada. Especially in Quebec, where the drivers have some taste and like the manual.
Yes. I am learning there are quite a few more here than I realized too.
I’ve got the same manual Fit with 119K miles on the original clutch. I bought it brand new and baby the clutch. Heel toe downshifts and neutral at the red lights. Dealer changed a squeaky pilot bearing under warranty at around 30k miles, but the service slip didn’t show a clutch was put in, so I think it’s still original.
I know my time is coming and I’m considering tackling it myself, so this video was very helpful. Glad to have found your channel. I’ll be watching more of your good work. Thank you!
Looks a bit more annoying than doing my prelude, but totally doable!
Incredible amount of work to replace a clutch. Give me a 60 or70 era rear wheel drive any day. As usual you nailed it.
Great narrating! You got bracketry in your dictionary. I do too! Me and you will get a long just fine 🤝
I also use Mapp Gas
DAMN, That was a GREAT Vid. on doing that Clutch, VERY DETAILED. I almost pissed myself when you showed the bread a second time WITH A BITE TAKEN OUT OF IT, LMAO.
I've only ever changed 1 Clutch in a Front Wheel Drive Vehicle, It was my 1989 Chevy Beretta GT 5 Speed. NEVER AGAIN, had a hell of a time getting the Trans. to align up after installing new clutch, like you did. Took me hours but I was working off Jack Stands laying on my back with the Trans on my chest. Also had a hell of a time bleeding the new Slave Cylinder, had to bleed it for a week after driving it.
Remove bread killed me this man’s a genius 😂
Lol his mannerisms are funny. But that's a very common thing to do in the trade.
Yo. Great video. Does the sourdough come in a rebuild kit? Great videos. Wish I had your help with my old 01 accord. It could use some attention on the rear main seal and likely a nice sourdough treatment. Keep it up man. Really enjoyable videos.
Saved my ass... I have never changed a clutch and barely work on cars....every step was there... thanks for saving me a couple grand
Thanks for the video!!! Buddy and I did my clutch last weekend. The bread thing actually worked 😂
Thanks mate, very helpful!
@@laurenceharrison2647 😁
That looks like a huge job! This is one of the few things I wouldn't DIY. Nice work! Working in the rust belt is no joke!
Thus is such a great video!! Well done on pausing and explaining critical points in this process 👏 ❤
good explain, great detail in your videos. Thank you for your show.
Yo . How do you keep the garage warm in the winter ? Stove burning wood ?
Is it cvt
What? No.
Stuffing bread in holes. A new low! A new hole!
this is one of the best videos i ever saw thank you
Keep up the great work
Great job! Ok bye! 😉
Good video!
All of them came from Japan. That's just where the Fit is made.
Okay
Awesome video! How many miles did that Honda fit have on it? Thanks.
About 120k i think.
Two questions. Why not use urea grease to grease the the splines on the clutch? Isnt it bad to mix urea grease with any lithium base grease or non polyurea .Also why not leave the alignment tool in when tightening?
Spline lubricant is not a grease per say. It is more like a disc brake quiet. It dries out. Some manufacturers dont use anything on splines, and it is not designed to stay lubricated. It works for enitial brake in, and then it is gone. You can leave the tool in there, but it does not align the clutch like you may believe it does. You need to check the disc to make sure it is centered after the pressure plate is tightened.
@@RustBeltAuto I appreciate the response. Going to be doing this all day. Got the hard part done getting the transmission out already. Thank you again for the info.
How do you organize all the parts you have removed?
In my head.
12:50 "BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY FRIENDS"
:(
Most people around here claim to be your friend, while they are looking for a wallet.
So hows the throw out bearing holding up? I saw from the video the center shaft is crooked in the bearing. Coincidentally I also ordered the exedy clutch kit and received the same problem. I fear installing it but the old bearing is grindy.. whats your thoughts?
Crooked how? There are no problems.
@@RustBeltAuto happy to hear. I am tempted to try it out as my fit is apart at the moment...
@@RustBeltAuto Im opting for the old bearing.. if i knew your email I could email you some pics. Thanks for the torque specs and big big props on the bread tool 🔥
@@ac7205 if I was me, I wouldn't do that.
I accidentally put the seal in about 1/8” to far .. will it effect anything?
If it is touching the sealing surface, probably not.
@@RustBeltAuto I was thinking that too and I’ll just go get another one… great video by the way!!
u got a new bike!!!
No. It's my winter beater.
great vid, i'd help you get the trans out if i lived close by!
