Finally! An informative how-to without all the extra b.s. or missing information. Steady and clear image, & carefully and well described process. I just helped a (single mom) friend get this done without a hitch thanks to this video. The cost of repair at a shop or dealership was well outside her budget so this video truly helped a family in need. God bless!
You are a good friend, Sir. I have quite the oil leak and by watching UA-cam videos I was able to change the valve cover gasket, spark plugs and PCV valve. I still have an oil leak. After watching this video, I'm basically feeling kind of screwed. I do not have the means, or the proper tools, to do this job myself. I pray your friend knows and appreciates what you've done for her. 💯🙌
@@-_-abk You are not wrong! This is quite the story, so bear with me - you may even be sorry you asked. 😂 I despise going to the dealership because I feel like they take you for all you have, but I decided to take advantage of the fact that I needed my oil changed and that they would have it on a lift and would be very interested in the oil leak. I told the lady up front that I knew it had an oil leak, I just needed them to change the oil and rotate my tires. There was some confusion (gasp! 😱) and when I picked up my car they charged me for a diagnostic fee to find the oil leak. I'll save you the drama from all that only to say I did NOT pay that fee. They narrowed it down to the timing cover gasket and spool valve. You'll love this also, they gave me a total of $4,511.21 worth of repairs that needed to be done to my vehicle. Seven of the items listed were listed as maintenance. Four were listed as repairs and then there was an additional line for a new battery at $221.50 because my battery failed the test. (**Very dramatic eye roll**) Needless to say, I ordered my parts and got right on it! 😂🙌💯
Thank you for this video, saved me over $2000!!! My son burnt the clutch up on his 2010 Accord and this video and the 20 times i watched pre/during gave me the confidence to take this on in my garage on jack stands.
I used this video to replace the clutch on my 2006 Accord. This video is excellent and describes all the steps perfectly. I did the work with the car on jack stands and also used the jack to support the transmission once everything was unbolted. The only major problem I ran into was rusty nuts/studs on the (2) engine mounts that sit on top of the sub frame, had to drill them out. Total time to complete was about 16-18 hours. Thanks for the great video!
I'm probably going to finish in about the same amount of time. Also a 2006 accord. I had a really difficult time getting the transmission back in. I was also doing this with jack stands and just a regular floor jack. To get the transmission back in, I used the floor jack, and a second bottle jack to get it positioned just right. Then I put in two of the bolts and used them to draw the transmission the last 1/4" onto the engine.
I'm doing this on a car one year newer, but about 1 year later, and I had the same problem. The metal/rubber trans mounts on the subframe had a lot of rust, and one bolt sheared off. I had to get a new trans mount, too, because the rubber ripped off. I also had plenty of extremely stubborn bolts that took a lot of work to break loose.
I bought my 2003 Accord EX Coupe in 2020. I started having issues with my clutch almost a year later and it eventually went completely out. I didn't know what to do. Not everyone can afford to put their car in the shop for a clutch replacement. $1400 is just not affordable. So, since I'm slightly mechanically inclined I started looking for videos on how to do it myself. To be entirely honest, the only thing I'd ever changed on a vehicle was the tires, my master cylinder, and my slave cylinder. I hadn't even changed my own oil yet. However I found your video and was able to completely change my clutch BY MYSELF. I have to applaud you and tell you how thankful I am that you created a very thorough video that left me with no question that I was doing it correctly. I have now changed two honda clutches and I'm starting on my 3rd. Thanks so much and keep the videos coming!!!
Used this video to successfully complete my first solo clutch replacement and I am super duper grateful for you taking the time to make it, share it and walk the viewer through the entire process step by step from beginning to end. Thank you! Every car has its own quirks so had to be flexible with what was actuality possible on my own 2005 accord but your base of information was key to understanding what needed to be done to finish the job correctly. Wise man once said, you can do it right, or you can do it again. With your help, I got it right the first time. Much appreciation. Moving forward.
Took me roughly 40 hours Would likely take significantly less if ever had to do it again. Probably. Hopefully. First time through spent a fair amount of time figuring out how to get things done on vehicle. And what tools were needed and acquiring them. Rear main seal wad a pain to remove until realizing it has a metal ring inside of the outer rubber like plastic covering. Once I knew that, came out in 5 min since that info allowed for what could and couldn't be done without damaging anything around it. This video made the entire process possible however. A fantastic baseline from start to finish.
Just finished the clutch job on my daughter's 05 Accord. Your video was a lifesaver. I had never done the clutch on a front wheel drive. Thanks a bunch.
God bless you. The fact that you led a straight up amateur mechanic (radiator, alternator, brakes) to do this job is remarkable. If this video had a rating it would be without a doubt a 10/10. Keep up the great work
Bro you saved my life, done a lot of repairs on my car but this how to is THE single best i’ve ever had, just perfect all the details you need but not to much and without any bullcrap just genius and perfect!!!

For bolt in 8:22 fyi. It was so tight I couldn't get it loose no matter what I tried. Thing that finally worked was getting a swivel 1/2 inch extensions and my m18 milwaukee going through the bottom of the car and just going to town on it. That was the most difficult part for me. Also I decided to remove radiator giving me better access to starter
Tomorrow is the day for me. And I am coming back to this video over and over again after browsing internet for the info on how to replace flywheel/clutch/pressure plate and such on 7th gen Accord. Most of videos and guides are either with removing subframe or missing some info or extremely hard to understand due to shaky video and mumbling. So... Thank you for such a detailed and easy to understand tutorial!
Just did my 2012 (8th gen, 08-12.) A couple differences, but mostly the same. inner starter bolt can stay, there's another 17mm bellhousing bolt behind the CKP sensor panel by the passenger CV. air snorkel by the radiator needs to come off to get room for the plenum. some of the wiring is different, but common sense. I live in the rust belt so removing the upper ball joint was easier than the lower, still allowed me to get the CVs out. All other differences were minor and common sense (6 bolts on plenum vs 5, one driver side tranny mount vs two, etc.) Thanks for the video. Most online resources illustrate doing it the Honda way (subframe removal) so thank you for taking the time to document this. Also props to your video/narration skill. Very easy to follow p.s. since a lot of people ask in the comments, it took me about 15 hours but I have a mechanical background and all the necessary tools
This video has been a lifesaver for me. Thank so much for the tutorial. Only problem I ran into it some of the bolts holding the transmission together on an Acura are reverse thread for some reason. But this video made my life a lot easier!
very good instructional video. followed it as a guide and worked out great. used an excedy kit for my accord and went rather easily because of your video. i will add one deviation though, when joining the transmission back to the engine i got it close with the wiggling to align it but ended up just using the perimeter bolts to pull them together. other than that, step by step. priced it at a couple of local shops and it was over a grand, this cost me less than half and did it over 10 hrs, of my pace style work,, several breaks,, again,, thanks for the guide!!
Can't say enough good things about this video. Very Very informative. I usually deal with dsms but when my daily wouldn't go into gear and clutch wouldn't disengage I bought new stuff and fixed it with this video plus shimmed the pivot ball now goes into gear perfectly.
Thanks for the vid! So far so good. Got my tranny, clutch, and pressure plate out. Never pulled a transmission. Was gonna get another car until I found this video. Was doubting I could do this myself on the ground using jack stands and a floor jack. Waiting on a clutch kit now. Hopefully she'll be running again soon. Thanks again for taking the time to make and put out this content
I'll be doing this at my garage. Obviously I don't have a hydraulic jack to lift the car higher. And don't have a transmission jack. Feels like mission imposible 😫. Great video sir!
Ur out standing, did exactly how you did to the t broken down , not long at all getting ready to put in clutch ,saved me lot of money, Brian thank you ,ur a stand up guy,I'll be. Following you ur honest, stay safe covid 19,👍👍
How to Automotive, you did an amazing job. Thanks for posting. Attn to detail and explanations on why/how you were doing a particular thing was appreciated. Sadly, after watching this one, I've been forced to reckon with the fact that my rear main seal leak is going to damn my beloved Accord. It took A LOT of tools I don't have to get all that done. But, hey... A little education and acceptance never hurt anyone, right? Thanks again!
Best most imformant video I have ever seen on youtube or anywere else. Looks like I'm a little late but I just got done doing this to my 06 honda accord coupe and I'm a mechanic but this video still came in handy. I didnt want to pull the sub frame an I came across this video thankfully. Great information and very well described. Thank you. Only thing I noticed is that you kept calling the release bearing a pilot bearing. But still nothing to complain about. Keep it up man and great job.
MAN THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO JUST CHANGED MY CLUTCH AND ALL WHILE WATCHING THIS VIDEO BEFORE DURING AND AFTER. now i am leaving while my wife cranks it and drives it lmao told her if anything is wrong set it on fire or drive it into the river i dont even wanna hear about it HAHA FINGERS CROSSED
2009 Honda Accord: On a 2009 Accord. 1) The flywheel bolts are torqued to 90 foot-pounds. 2) There are six fasteners holding the intake manifold on. 3) You need 2 men, and a strong boy, to install the transmission. Doing this by yourself, with a floor jack, requires help from the Almighty. 4) Below the rear motor mount, remove the black crank position sensor cover. You'll see a 17 mm bolt that must be removed. 5) It is very difficult to balance this transmission on a floor jack. Next time I'm going to try my engine hoist (cherry picker). 6) I had to use a breaker bar to loosen the transmission bolts. 7) Remove the battery box (there are bolts on the fender, under the box). You're going to need the room. 8) Don't even think of doing this if you're in a hurry or an amateur. 9) Be advised, the axle nut torque is 242 foot-pounds! 10) Once you remove the rear main seal you can use it as a guide by placeing it on top of your new seal then hammer it in place.
Bought the seal removal tool that you used and the tabs broke off the fingers first try. I removed the seal ghetto style by first drilling through the metal portion of the seal using a 3/32 bit, then running a #8 sheet metal screw into the seal. I then grabbed screw with a pair of vice grips and use a large screw driver to pry it up while pulling on it.
Thank you so much for this great work. The only thing that was holding me up was the start bolt in the back, had to heat that up and impact that off. The tranny sliding back on was a pain by myself just got some extra bolts and cut the heads off and used that to slide it right on no problem. All in all thank you again sir you saved me $$$$ keep up that work
When I googled this it brought up a clip, let’s call him billy bob. (Stereotype meant) Billy bobs clip was 4 mins for this whole job. I specifically heard him say we greased it all up so it will change gears easier(I agreed with your method leave it as it is), then he said something else country as hell and I was out. Thank god I found your video. Awesome job I can tell it’s going to take me a week myself .😂😂😂
Great video! Btw, you don’t need to remove the 14mm bolt holding the starter. By removing that, you risk breaking the knock sensor when you simply don’t need to do this. Besides that, solid video!
@@yavz7565 been driving the car for over a year now on the new clutch and hasn’t skipped a beat. Just remember to take your time, this job took me 3 days to finish, each day about 6 hours of work, just because I’m a beginner at this and never did a job this big before. organize all your bolts and nuts in cups or bags so u don’t mix them up when ur putting them back. And bring a friend or two if u can to help take the trans out and put it back in.
The Honda dealership just replaced my clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, rear bearing, pilot brushing yesterday. Not cheap to replace all these parts. Cost me $2600.00
Anyone know if you can do this with an automatic transmission without dropping the frame? I would imagine the torque converter may be too big to get in the way to be able to get to the main seal?
Video is a work of art. Thank you! I'm thinking of doing this job on mine. Seems like a good time to swap out some other buried components. Any suggestions on what to replace vs what to leave alone? (Example: why not go ahead and toss a new starter in?) Also, should I look into a replacement hose/gasket kit or try to reuse originals? I've got an '03 with 270k miles.
@ 3:20 ish you did that so easily. My slave cylinder bolts are so rusted that I can not get them off with a combination of an electric impact driver and a hand socket wrench. Idk how to fit a breaker bar or a larger wrench in such a small space. I tried removing the radiator/fan assembly but once that proved both unnecessary more complicated than my 2000 accord.; I need to go out for supplies sometime this week, clutch replacement kit, oil filter, oil, transmission fluid, stop leal, fuel injector cleaner/+ additive I want to bring all the old fasteners and claims with me me to have them replaced as well
Anyway you can give a complete tool list socket sizes I know you said a 12 point socket and then a large socket for the hub nut thx in advance clutch went out on the I yesterday
Great and very helpful video! I might just be able to replace the Main Seal on my 03 Accord. I have AT any helpful tips that diff from the MT install and repair?
I just did this to my 2006 accord. Worked perfectly. Just a quick question. How can you tell if the throw out bearing is being engaged/disengaged fully by the clutch?
Nice video, except that I would have put a coating of high temp urea grease on the throwout bearing guide, and just a bit on the pilot bushing and splines.
I just pulled this off with my v6 3.0L, it’s much harder but still possible, since you can get as much space. There’s another video on UA-cam of someone replacing their entire transmission out the top for a v6, and in concjunction with this video I figured it out.
Hey man! Was just wondering if you have any tips on separating the transmission from the engine. I removed every bolt needed but it just won’t budge, even with pry bars.
I have the 3.0 V6 (6-speed) for an '07 Accord, do you know if there is any significant difference in this operation for this variant? From what I can tell the flywheel is a different part, and it is crazy expensive, at least for a genuine Honda part. I'd be happy to use your affiliate link if you can recommend parts that will work for this.
Did this ever go smoothly for your Accord? I am having a hard time finding any info on the 2007, 3.0L, V6. It would be amazing if you could confirm it is possible to perform this repair.
I wiggle the transmission in pretty sure that it's seated but now I'm trying to get them on the pens and it doesn't want to go I even both did it together a little bit and it still doesn't want to go, should I assume that I don't really have the shaft on. When I crank the pulley it just makes a squealing noise from contact with the belt. I cant hear anything inside the transmission. Its supposed to be in reverse
Thank you for making this video!! I preparing to attempt to remove my manual transmission so i can so a rebuild. Is it possible to remove the transmission completely following this videos instructions? Is there enough clearance?
Amazing job with this video This will definetly help me fix mine Oh what size cotter pin are you using by the way and what spray do you use to clean off the oil on the flywheel?

priced it at a couple of local shops and it was over a grand, this cost me less than half and did it over 10 hrs, of my pace style work,, several breaks,,
again,, thanks for the guide!!
Thanks for this idea! I used this technique yesterday and maaaaaannnn it saved me so much time and worked out great!
Sorry to hear about your Honda. They are good cars. Thank you for watching!
You’re in the video with him😂😂
One of the more detailed videos I found on my Accord...thanx
Best most imformant video I have ever seen on youtube or anywere else. Looks like I'm a little late but I just got done doing this to my 06 honda accord coupe and I'm a mechanic but this video still came in handy. I didnt want to pull the sub frame an I came across this video thankfully. Great information and very well described. Thank you. Only thing I noticed is that you kept calling the release bearing a pilot bearing. But still nothing to complain about. Keep it up man and great job.
Do you have a v6?
Is this a job you can get done in your driveway ?
excellent tutorial you have mechanical and narrative skills in abundance.
One ☝️ the best didn’t buy the car as yet but this video is big motiva
This is an awesome tutorial! Thank you for taking the time to go through each bolt.
Thank you for watching!
Wow that was very comprehensive! I am almost looking forward to my clutch dying... ALMOST.
All in all thank you again sir you saved me $$$$ keep up that work
@@woodyt361 glad it all worked out. Thank you for watching!
Great vid man, I really appreciate the time you put into making it. Amazing attention to detail
Exactly, that's the point for me.
The attention to detail.
Great job Brian.
Outstanding! Thank You Sir. Doing my studies , Learning Honda Vehicles. I am about to do just this in the coming future.
Alex Witcher lol I don’t know who Billy Bob is butI’m glad you like the video. Thank you for watching!
Amazing video shows every step so accurately such a good step by step guide
Thank you! A lot of videos on this DIY are a joke. Yours is just amazing!
Great video! Btw, you don’t need to remove the 14mm bolt holding the starter. By removing that, you risk breaking the knock sensor when you simply don’t need to do this. Besides that, solid video!
Hi brian
Gona do this job today tomorrow
Such an awesome presentation bro really appreciate you bro
Thanku so much
How’d it go?:)
ty saved me a big subframe headache 😅😅💯
Just did my 2013 accord using ur video, it really helped a lot, THX!
Glad everything went smoothly. Thank you for watching!
How did everything turn out? Going to do it on my 2016 accord soon
Never once seen a Accord this gen. So rust free. Ball joints ain’t separating like that no matter what.
This video was so great! got my clutch done just by watching this thank you 😊
Awesome glad the video was helpful. Thank you for watching!
Wow! This is an excellent video. Very well done!
The Honda dealership just replaced my clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, rear bearing, pilot brushing yesterday. Not cheap to replace all these parts. Cost me $2600.00
Mark Lou yeah Honda parts are not cheap and labor is expensive.
ok if you have never done this but you have a lift and a hydraulic jack theoretically watching your video i should be able to get it done.
Great video , explaining every detail and the tour que specs. 👌🏽
Thank you for the informative video. Can this process be modified for a 2008 Odyssey?
best video on youtube
@@vlonso1700 thank you!
Great job 1 of best I seen by far
Thank you!
Can anyone tell me how much this can be applied to a 2015 Honda accord 2.4L? I am about to attempt to do this on my car.
I tried removing the radiator/fan assembly but once that proved both unnecessary more complicated than my 2000 accord.; I need to go out for supplies sometime this week, clutch replacement kit, oil filter, oil, transmission fluid, stop leal, fuel injector cleaner/+ additive
I want to bring all the old fasteners and claims with me me to have them replaced as well
100/10 video sir 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great video - very informative. Do you know if the procedure is possible on a 2008 Honda Accord with the 4 cylinder? Thanks.
Anyway you can give a complete tool list socket sizes I know you said a 12 point socket and then a large socket for the hub nut thx in advance clutch went out on the I yesterday
You can make the toughest jobs look easy!
Great and very helpful video! I might just be able to replace the Main Seal on my 03 Accord. I have AT any helpful tips that diff from the MT install and repair?
Short and to the point. Very helpful. Thanks for specs too.
Thank you!
Good video. I did this in my 01 accord and I didn’t realize this many Honda’s where the same. H series K series b series j series.
I had done this before on a euro R ACCORD.... SUPER EASY
Jesse Allen it’s not too bad of a job. Thank you for watching!
I just did this to my 2006 accord. Worked perfectly. Just a quick question. How can you tell if the throw out bearing is being engaged/disengaged fully by the clutch?
Great video, where are you located at ? I might need you to do this work and more on my accord
Nice video, except that I would have put a coating of high temp urea grease on the throwout bearing guide, and just a bit on the pilot bushing and splines.
this looks like it can be done in 4h. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching!
Thanks! Is this the same for the V6 3.0L ? Also, how complexe is this process? how long would it take?
I just pulled this off with my v6 3.0L, it’s much harder but still possible, since you can get as much space. There’s another video on UA-cam of someone replacing their entire transmission out the top for a v6, and in concjunction with this video I figured it out.
I have a question, what does the starter spin on an automatic version of the K24A4 engine to get the car started, is it a flywheel?
Excellent video. A great reference to keep on hand.
How long did it take you to do this work? I am trying to estimate how long it would take me since i am planning to rent a car jack. Thanks!
Hey man! Was just wondering if you have any tips on separating the transmission from the engine. I removed every bolt needed but it just won’t budge, even with pry bars.
Dam. Amazing video love it. Thank you. Is this procedure same for acura tsx 2004?
On the starter you only need to remove the lower 17MM bolt the upper bolt close to the knock sensor has no connection to the transmission.
Amazing job with this video
This will definetly help me fix mine
Oh what size cotter pin are you using by the way
and what spray do you use to clean off the oil on the flywheel?
This job took me 3 days.
I have a question I’ve followed this video to a t. But now that I’m trying to get the ball joints back on I can not get them to side into place.
Where are you located? Was wondering if you could do my clutch on a 06 accord
Can this be done a v6 without subframe removal?
