i didn’t realize i had public speaking anxiety until i tried to join in on a debate today and my voice and body started shaking and i got super embarrassed. it makes sense now because my heart raced whenever i wanted to speak in class :(
Same. I once signed up to compete in a public speaking contest cuz I thought I’m not bad at public speaking and I speak well. But NOPE! I froze on stage and made a complete fool of myself and ever since then I just have so much anxiety and stage fright 😭
I'm not a doctor, but if nothing works out for you.. Then consult a doctor and take proponolol before presentation.. Works like charm... But down side is without proponolol I'm not able speak in a public or in a meeting.. My heart beat raises as soon as I start talking...
I have a class presentation tomorrow and I’m so terrified. I’m shaking even just thinking about it :( Update: I commented this a while ago, but it went pretty well. Our teacher is gonna grade it so i’m kinda nervous about that, but let’s hope for the best. Another update: I got a B!
I recently realized that I have this. I thought it was social anxiety but I'm not that anxious in social situations . It's when I'm in the spotlight and expected to talk is when all the fear comes out

Ngl i really wanna cry right now cz of the presentation due next week. It's not even am important one. Our teachers are trying to push us more this semester to build confidence but boi o boi i wish they didn't 😭😭😭
Love this... it's about getting out of your own way! I find giving talks similar to teaching a yoga class - it's not about you... it's about the students in the class and how to give them the best experience in that moment. And every single time, it's about getting out of your own way, don't make it about you and your nerves - it's about them! Thanks for this reminder. :)
Thanks Jaime. That’s a great example. The best yoga instructors are dialed in to what the student is thinking, feeling and doing and then just guides there energy while the student does the work
Talking in class wasn't even a bit problem for me before pandemic. I used to represent my group. But when covid has started, just thinking about speaking would make me feel terrify. Cold feet, hands shaking, heart's pounding, usual signs of speaking anxiety. Because I kept thinking about 'Maybe I' ve changed already and I can't do it anymore.' But upon diving into this video, it got me straight, beating anxiety is about not focusing on yourself but rather on what you are about to do. Loosening up and having fun. Maybe that's one thing I have neglected. I was always focused on the things I thought I couldn't, but hell, I definitely can. Thank you for this video :)
Every time I have to do a presentation my palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy. I'm about to drop bombs, but I keep on forgetting What I wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud I open my mouth, but the words won't come out I'm choking, how? Everybody's joking now The clock's run out, time's up, over-blaow!
got a 6 minute presentation on french tomorrow, i cant even speak french lol. Prob is not the mindset, but my body, it just goes all places whilst im thinking, it doesnt matter how they think, theyre just ppl too. Lol im such a mess when it comes to powerpoints ehhh
I have a presentation Thursday in one of my college courses. I’ve found that if I start the presentation by asking a question to related said topic I’m able to ground the my nerves faster once I get the audience speaking instead of just having them staring at me during the start of the presentation. I’ll add this is someone who is terrified of public speaking and on anxiety medication.
It's so very difficult to handle nervousness for me but also i feel bad if i didn't get the chance to speak up about my thoughts. It feels like my ideas are wasted so i really need to overcome my weakness so thank you so much for this. I hope that i can do well more in my school because of this mindset. I appreciate it.
Hi, @Himari. I can definitely resonate with what you’ve said and would be really interested in hearing more about your experiences relating to public speaking and/or any anxieties you may still currently face. I’m looking to gather insight from individuals like yourself (purely for my own research) to help me build a new workshop I’m working on. It would mean the world to me if we could hop on a quick call and I could ask you a few questions. OR if you know of someone who fits this description, please tag them below/introduce me. Feel free to tag me here with a reply if you’re interested :) Super appreciate your shared insights in advance.
This helped me a lot, thank you! I gotta do a school presentation tomorrow that I have been avoiding for 3 months, im not afraid anymore because im pretty sure that everyone feels the way I do when they are infront of the whole class so im not nervous anymore cause im not infront of professionals that are gonna judge me
Love these points you're absolutely on point Riaz. Focusing on ourselves only increases the anxiety, focusing outward shifts our focus and naturally our perspective.
Thanks Nisreen. Figured you could definitely relate to this given your work in front of the camera. 'Don't be a creeper' also applies here to reduce the anxiety :)
I always knew i had anxiety when I'm about to say something in fornt of a crowd but today the way my heart raised it actually took me by surprise well the point is does anyone want to like practice giving any sort of presentations or speaking in general like yk who could really use a company
Right before I am about to step up, I take a few BIG DEEP breaths with my eyes closed. Then, I focus on my senses to ground myself. I LOVED tip #1. Building those relationships up front makes them feel less like strangers. :)
Love this Riaz. My biggest tip is to connect to people individually, similar to your suggestion of your fab 5. Then it becomes about them, not you and your can serve your audience instead of being anxious.
I just came here after a zoom meeting we I just had speaking anxiety I couldn’t stop talking and I couldn’t hear what I was saying🥺 .. but I’m hope watching your videos will help me because I’ll be working with clients and they need to have confidence in me as I handle their accounts...I guess it’s that need to be validated that I know my work but Gosh speaking anxiety 😥
Now that so many of us have to speak via zoom which is so different to being in person something I do is to practice and record myself talking on zoom to no one then play it back so I know how I sound and look. This helps me feel a bit more confident when presenting on camera. Hope this helps...
one thing that helps me overcome speaking anxiety is to think that will this speech or presentation matter in a matter of a few months or years. Also have bullet points ready for what you are about to speak about. That takes away the weight from the speaking part instantly.
I have to talk about how I want to be a good colleague in front of my co workers on monday. It is all I can think about, I am so nervous I want to die instead... They can tell I am so nervous and I am convinced they enjoy it inside cause they love not being me. I am shaking, sweating, dry mouth, can't speak properly when I am so nervous... I hate it!!
I'm a 14 yo kid. I used to be so good at debates but then i left my school in 5th class. I was so depressed about it and i think that is why i have speech anxiety now. It's like something is stopping me from speaking and my chest gets heated up. I really need a solution from you or the Internet!
Also if i speak fluenty in front of someone i normally don't feel the anxiety then. Also its not only in big crowds but even to a single person who i don't even know for eg. Taxi drivers, delivery guys etc
have been afraid of public speaking as long as I can remember. I have dropped out of school and lost a lot of opportunities because I was too afraid to speak. I'm scared to talk to authority or speak in front of people because my mind goes blank. My heart beats so fast and my mouth goes dry. Then after that I get very very depressed and think of suicide because I felt like a failure. I don't want this to control my life. I did toast masters today and it was so hard. Very hard for me but I forced myself to. I know the fear is irrational but it impacts my life and my body and my mind . After toast masters I got depressed for reasons I don't know. I'm going to go again. It's like I'm walking into the danger to overcome it. I see potential to present. I see hope to give a speech some day. I'm so so so scared but I have to .
Anybody watching these videos please understand that your ‘nervousness’ may be more than just ‘public speaking anxiety’. Serious mental health conditions may also be at play like ‘selective mutism’ and ‘complex PTSD’ for example. These tips are fine but please be sure you are getting the appropriate help.
I am a college student and I am always reporting. And it is even if thru online class. I always feel nervous. Sometimes I forgot all the ideas i had practiced😣.

I really hate it and I just feel like I wanna get it over with no matter what happens. Its super annoying and I say to myself why am i embarrasing myself.
Another thing that helps is contradictory. Try to feel as much fear as you possibly can, crank it up. Notice how it really feels and accept it. It won't kill you to do this. Once it's accepted it will go away, the more you resist the more it will keep itself around.

I have done relatively a lot of public speaking whether it is giving a presentation at a convention or providing state of department projects for annual upper management review . The degree of anxiety is fluid and depends how ready you are with your material. I engage the audience first and that brings them in as part of the presentation...and I'm asking them questions thru-out. One thing I find many people who are uncomfortable speaking, is they try to do the conventional approach first but as soon as they get the dreaded "shakey voice" they almost always revert to reading their speech....Not good. And one odd thing I have found out about most people is while they are afraid to speak in public, they are usually the first to volunteer for a community play or skit acting the part of a fictional or historic character. It seems their fear always goes away when "hamming it up".
This is so crazy, I have speaking anxiety when presenting or doing job interviews (as MYSELF) but have no qualms acting or role playing in front of an audience. What IS the logic 🥴
When I speak in public my reasoning just disappear and I speak nonsense. I believe most of the problem comes from lack of confidence so I'm trying to be more confident while speaking.
This is the topic to address! Sometimes I wonder if anything really works besides just getting up and doing it as cliché as it sounds lol. So many people avoid public speaking which obviously makes their anxiety worse. Nice vid - kudos!!
I don't have speaking anxiety I can speak to people and I love presenting stuffs But the problem is.. Whenever I talk to somebody else and want to say this word like For an example "ice-cream" I want to say it but I just stop. And froze I want to say it but my mouth just declines it I want to say the word "icecrem" but I just CANT but then moments later I can say it Its very hard, its like I'm hesitating to say the word Like talking about a movie and I want to say what their about but then I just stop and froze and like,MY MIND JUST LIKE TOLD ME TO "SAY THE WORD" BUT MY MOUTH SAID "NO" what's wrong?
I really enjoyed watching your video and these are good tips but once you are up for presentation you forget everything and become so nervous and anxious 😅
OMG I can totally relate! I tend to get shaky knees and it is incredibly annoying :P. Such a great technique to focus on the audience instead of yourself. Thanks for sharing :)
I've used the "connect with people before you speak" technique. That way when I'm speaking I can connect with friendly faces. Helps a bunch. Never thought about also asking questions to use for even better connection. Super helpful tip Riaz!
I'm happy to have come across your channel. I don't particularly have anxiety when speaking, it's more that I stumble on my words at times and that they don't come out conveying the message I initially intended to convey. Thanks for you great content!
i have them at work when i have to make/ answer a phone calls. i usually drink more so i can nip to the loo and have a few minutes do take some breaths and calm down. its been 8 months or so and its not any easier for me.
Got asked to officiate a wedding and now I’m here. I’m just so scared and nervous. I want it to go so great for them, but I know my struggle with be visible. 😩
I have ACTUAL anxiety (diagnosed). Idk if this will work. It’s more than just trouble with eye contact; I had trouble breathing and etc. it’s worse than just “shyness”, hiding and sweating palms. I hope this works.
I often get asked in church how I am so calm in front of the congregation. I just tell the truth. I don't much care how people judge me. 😂 Or in more common terms I just don't care much about what people think. I don't mean it in a snarky way mind you. I just have bigger worries than what may or may not be going through other people's minds. I do care about people though. I also listen well oddly enough.
Thanks for the great vidio, its really helpful for me in preparing my final thesis persentation in my university, thanks for the helpuf tips and trick to overcome the unxiety problem during speaking in front of people, kudos....
I have a speech to present at school for English and I'm nervous, I have this technique and it's that everyone gets nervous about presenting a speech, I don't have to present it if I'm too nervous but it doesn't really work, I also want to just end it already but I'm restarting my speech because it makes no sense at all
For me it’s more so will I forget what I prepared for. That’s what causes my anxiety. How do I retain the information, formulate it and deliver it coherently. I want to sound convincing.
I have a presentation to deliver in 1 hour. In front of university professors, who find lecturing easy, and others. I’m so scared, I hate speaking in front of an audience.
I have to do a presentation about Covid-19 policies today, so nervous it’s worth a lot of my grade. And we aren’t allowed to use notes or look on a screen, we have to just make up our words on spot :(
@@RiazMeghji It was just ok. I have about three presentations a week (every other week) when in the office. I believe the three day consistency will strengthen my presentation skill (muscle) and relieve some of my anxiety issues. At this point, I don't have a choice. In the meantime, I will continue to watch videos like yours to get more comfortable. Thanks so much for asking.
Speaking anxiety and related symptoms occur due to stress hormones. And the stress hormones are produced because we are subconsciously thinking of negative outcomes of the presentation. We need to try and eliminate this root cause first.
How can i overcone this anxiety sir? Sometimes ok sometimes not when this anxiety attack. My mouth shaking and my voice down everytime i speak. And sometimes i got sweat in my forehead.
Love this tip of getting to know your audience better. When I used to go to comedy shows I really respected comedians who made local references. Like when Trevor Noah came to town and he opened with jokes about Vancouver, loved it!
In my weekly presentation today I felt more nervous that I usually do. Literally everything turned black I was about to cry and was forcing myself to speak, luckily they couldn’t see my face as we are working from home, I felt like just leaving the conversation. I just read everything from the slides with 0 explanation given to each point just to finish of my part. Not sure how I will handle it when face to face.

I'm actually confused of myself, I literally find it difficult to relate with people, get scared when going to meet people even if I'm close to them before. I really get scared when I'm to stand to talk in front of people and it's really allowing people make fun of me. And lately I've been having some suicidal thoughts. Funny how I do these things before but started getting scared all of a sudden I just wish I can find help

Usually I can control myself while presenting in from of hundreds people but my problem is while speaking in small groups😕😕😕
I have to debate in the next few minutes infront of my whole class (online on zoom) with my video on. I just hope I don’t get too nervous!
I don't have speaking anxiety
I can speak to people and I love presenting stuffs
But the problem is..
Whenever I talk to somebody else and want to say this word like
For an example "ice-cream"
I want to say it but I just stop.
And froze
I want to say it but my mouth just declines it
I want to say the word "icecrem" but I just CANT but then moments later I can say it
Its very hard, its like I'm hesitating to say the word
Like talking about a movie and I want to say what their about but then I just stop and froze and like,MY MIND JUST LIKE TOLD ME TO "SAY THE WORD" BUT MY MOUTH SAID "NO"
what's wrong?
Finding your 5 is such a great strategy to make a connection.
Fab 5 is a big booster! Thanks for watching.
I've a graduation party tomorrow and I'm planning to use the techniques in my speeche.
I'm nervous for my interview this Monday. even though its an online interview but still I'm nervous as heckk 😭
What happened then you got the job? Its now 3 years
I really enjoyed watching your video and these are good tips but once you are up for presentation you forget everything and become so nervous and anxious 😅
Yup. Uncertainty management is definitely a skill.
Right on. If we know it's there, we just need to find the way to navigate it.
This is amazing Riaz! Can't wait to try this technique! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Marina.
OMG I can totally relate! I tend to get shaky knees and it is incredibly annoying :P. Such a great technique to focus on the audience instead of yourself. Thanks for sharing :)
Brie! It’s a small shift with a big impact. Let me know how it works for you.
i have 2 presentations soon, im gonna come back to see if it went fine
@Cloudy XD one of them wasnt so good cause i barely knew the teacher so it was so awkward but the other one was good :D
@Cloudy XD yo u like city morgue?
I don’t know if I will ever be able to speak in mass . I can’t even do normal conversation with my boss . Social Anxiety is so painful .
Thanks for you honesty. What specifically do you find increases your anxiety?
I've used the "connect with people before you speak" technique. That way when I'm speaking I can connect with friendly faces. Helps a bunch. Never thought about also asking questions to use for even better connection. Super helpful tip Riaz!
Thanks Debbra. Not surprised you are familiar with this approach. You appear to be someone that leads with their heart :)
@@RiazMeghji thank you Riaz. What a beautiful sentiment. 💚
All of these are true, all that you told here actually increase my confidence when i spoke earlier
Thanks for the video! I watched this 2 days ago, and today I found out I was school captain! Y’all it will be okay
try adding a stutter on top of the speaking anxiety. This is a great video, thanks
I'm happy to have come across your channel. I don't particularly have anxiety when speaking, it's more that I stumble on my words at times and that they don't come out conveying the message I initially intended to convey. Thanks for you great content!
Thanks Jessica. Glad to have you hear. Will be releasing a video in the coming weeks on recovering after a stumble. Stay tuned!
I have a French one Tommorow and my accent is kinda shite 😅
i have them at work when i have to make/ answer a phone calls. i usually drink more so i can nip to the loo and have a few minutes do take some breaths and calm down. its been 8 months or so and its not any easier for me.
Got asked to officiate a wedding and now I’m here. I’m just so scared and nervous. I want it to go so great for them, but I know my struggle with be visible. 😩
What scares you most about this opportunity Tony?
I have ACTUAL anxiety (diagnosed). Idk if this will work. It’s more than just trouble with eye contact; I had trouble breathing and etc. it’s worse than just “shyness”, hiding and sweating palms. I hope this works.
sorry to hear that. These should definitely help!
Betablockers will help
I often get asked in church how I am so calm in front of the congregation. I just tell the truth. I don't much care how people judge me. 😂 Or in more common terms I just don't care much about what people think. I don't mean it in a snarky way mind you. I just have bigger worries than what may or may not be going through other people's minds. I do care about people though. I also listen well oddly enough.
Learning what's going on in the local scene is such a great idea. Great stuff as always Riaz!
Hereeeee's Jonny! Thanks for checking in my man
Thanks for the great vidio, its really helpful for me in preparing my final thesis persentation in my university, thanks for the helpuf tips and trick to overcome the unxiety problem during speaking in front of people, kudos....
I have a speech to present at school for English and I'm nervous, I have this technique and it's that everyone gets nervous about presenting a speech, I don't have to present it if I'm too nervous but it doesn't really work, I also want to just end it already but I'm restarting my speech because it makes no sense at all
Thank you Riaz - fantastic and so practical! I love your channel
Awesome Erica. Let me now what topic you'd love to see covered in future videos!

Did it go well?
I have a presentation tomorrow 😬
What helps me? Beta Blockers! (Inderal) I also need dramamine (gravol) to fly. Something is UP with my nerves. And, I've flown for over 20 years so..
I get cold and start to shiver uncontrollably
This means one thing, you are a certified human! Hopefully these tips helped.
Tomorrow is my presentation and i am shaking even by imagine ing the scence..
Service! Yes.... such amazing tips. Thank you Riaz :)
Awesome Ally! Thanks for checking it out
Great video. Short but straight to the point and has helped me more than many other videos on here.
For me it’s more so will I forget what I prepared for. That’s what causes my anxiety. How do I retain the information, formulate it and deliver it coherently. I want to sound convincing.
Great tips! "pointing your focus outward' -- such good advice.
Thanks Karla!
Thank you for this Beat Your Speaking Anxiety with This Proven Technique
!
Thanks Donnie!
I have a presentation to deliver in 1 hour. In front of university professors, who find lecturing easy, and others. I’m so scared, I hate speaking in front of an audience.
how did it go?
How was it?
Absolutely loved this video! Packed with super helpful and valuable information. Also, the editing was really fun to watch! Thanks
Thanks Ortal
I have to do a presentation about Covid-19 policies today, so nervous it’s worth a lot of my grade. And we aren’t allowed to use notes or look on a screen, we have to just make up our words on spot :(
I am going to be interviewed on a morning show on Monday. I’m so nervous. I’m hoping I do well 😂
Thank you!!! :) love how this is quick and tips anyone can apply!
I'm late but this is super-helpful. I am headed in now to give a presentation. I'll be sure to use your techniques mentioned in the video.
How did it go?
@@RiazMeghji It was just ok. I have about three presentations a week (every other week) when in the office. I believe the three day consistency will strengthen my presentation skill (muscle) and relieve some of my anxiety issues. At this point, I don't have a choice. In the meantime, I will continue to watch videos like yours to get more comfortable. Thanks so much for asking.
Speaking anxiety and related symptoms occur due to stress hormones. And the stress hormones are produced because we are subconsciously thinking of negative outcomes of the presentation. We need to try and eliminate this root cause first.
Comment section giving me happiness knowing i m not alone suffering from this
How can i overcone this anxiety sir? Sometimes ok sometimes not when this anxiety attack. My mouth shaking and my voice down everytime i speak. And sometimes i got sweat in my forehead.
My favorite is tip #2! So real when you have a shift in your mind to give more :)
Service is the name of the game!
Love this tip of getting to know your audience better. When I used to go to comedy shows I really respected comedians who made local references. Like when Trevor Noah came to town and he opened with jokes about Vancouver, loved it!
So true, I was at one of Trevor's show. I think he was talking about discovering E Hastings 😳

Funny how I do these things before but started getting scared all of a sudden
I just wish I can find help
never give up
@@mehboobakhter1935 thanks
Loved all you advice. I know I definitely can feel very anxious when talking to a big crowd. Terrified thag I will stutter and mess up the whole thing. Really appreciate these tips
Thanks Serena. I think we all have that fear. Sometimes when we show it, we can bring the audience closer to us. We’re human after all :)
I can give a speech in front of millions of people but when it comes to my class its impossible for me
What makes it feel impossible in front of the class?
Palms sweaty, knees weak, arms become heavy, mom's spaghetti
He’s nervous but on the surface he looks calm and ready
to drop bombs, but he keeps on forgetting
