David was a loyalist visionary. Years ahead of his time.
RIP cousin stephen mullan, he died on the way to hospital from his wounds. his partner karen was the first person killed by the UDA gunmen, she was a protestant and stephen a catholic.

How the Loyalist community misses David Ervine
Is that David Irvine talking 20 minutes in?
My first thought.
That's wat I think sound an the words David can use 80 words Wen 2 will do lol
From Ballykelly the bad day's and so sad. It hurts all the losses and lives that will never be the same.
3:04 is almost certainly David Ervine, with whom we're all familiar, and 22:04 is Ken McClinton with whom you may not be so familiar (depending on how much political news talk television you watched in the 1990's).
Equal parts killer and academic, McClinton is one of the more wild and multifaceted criminal personalities of the Troubles.
10 reasons why:
(1) he was released from the UDR in the 1970's for striking a superior officer
(2) he boarded a bus and shot dead a (Protestant) bus driver just to maintain a Unionist led public transport strike
(3) after leading scores of attacks during his stint in command of a UFF unit, he was finally arrested for two murders (for which he was given two life sentences) based on Intel provided by his fellow loyalists who were concerned with what we would now call his growing ISIS-like blood lust, i.e. he unironically advocated a policy of decapitation and mounting the head upon pikes in the park
(4) he turned up to his double-murder trial naked, more than once
(5) during his incarceration he confessed to dozens more crimes via (unprompted) signed statements which, on advice from the RUC, the DPP declined to take up
(6) he developed a Bronson-esque reputation in prison for fist fighting everyone and anyone - guards, fellow Loyalists, Provos, the unaffiliated, earning him multiple years in solitary confinement
(7) in prison he had boiling water (I've also heard oil) poured on him during a Republican led retaliation which the guards (it is rumored) knowingly set up
(8) he became an LVF ally whilst in prison and was later the pastor presiding over Billy Wright's funeral
(9) he represented LVF interests during several mediations and though he publicly called for calm after Wright's murder, he ultimately opposed the GFA
(10) after prison he earned two PhDs and, between UVF assassination attempts, started at least two ministries
Rumors persist that his name still sits on a dusty UVF hitlist in an attic somewhere (those boys do love a good grudge), but the full time pastor and part time psycho (and depending on the year and who you ask, it's the reverse) is still kicking around at 77 years old.
