The final fast lick reminds me A LOT of the final fast lick in Appaloosa by Gino Vannelli. I play that lick a lot and I couldn't help but notice the similarities. Fun stuff!

Bergerac - The Jersey Cop! What a theme tune! Awesome playing as always Pete. I do believe Carlos Rios also played the solo on Dancing On The Ceiling...
You should do a Master Class. Your technique, clarity and videos are such professional quality. Easy to follow and sound excellent. Love this piece!!!!
Great stuff!! He did not use harmonizer during that period, I think. Quote from Guitar Player (Feb. '87) article: "That was the beginning of the doubling approach that Carlos now employs for most of his recorded solos. He asks the engineer to slow the deck down 0.5% so the pitch of the double is a little different, which prodces a broad sound. ... '...If the deck can't be adjusted, I detune my guitar with a tuner. To recrate this effect live, I'm experimenting with stereo, where I mix Harmonizer and chorus on one channel while keeping other side dry'."
Nice stuff Pete - just gave you some coffees for the holdsworth in the mystery, and just found this. As you mention elsewhere here,m dancing on the ceiling is a fine pop solo. Don’t think Carlos gets the credit for such wonderful playing. Including the chord parts in dancing on the ceiling. Though if he wrote the song the royalties probably were credit enough. I’m just recovering very slowly from king covid (long but king kinda covers it). Before I got it in November 21 I’d just worked out both brother to brother and Appaloosa. He uses that same triplet down the Fm - and up the Db phrase (in variations) in both those. It’s a really neat way he gets around the changes.
Thanks Trevor, and thanks for the coffees! Sorry you’ve had a rough time with long covid, hope the recovery speeds up and you can get back to transcribing Carlos! It always surprises me that he’s not better known considering the high profile work that he’s done. He definitely gets good value from that triplet lick!
Awesome video, playing and lesson ! From what I've read from various interviews of him, he used his workhorse Valley Arts strat with 3 EMG S pickups into a small Boogie for that. The "chorus" effect is most definitely an Eventide H3000 or similar wich was very popular back then. Any chance you do "Cool Weasel Boogie" ? That solo is the bee's knees... BTW - Chick Corea actually preferred Carlos Rios's solos, but Carlos was among the absolute first-grade, first call A listers in LA back then, and there was no way he was going to lose those constant high paying major label gigs to go on tour for jazz money ;-)
Thanks very much, glad you liked it! That’s some brilliant background information, thank you. It’s a shame Carlos Rios isn’t better known considering the amount of stuff he’s done. Cool Weasel Boogie’s a good call, I’ll add it to the list…
@@PeteCallard Well, I think you can view it this way: millions of people throughout the world love the countless records he did sessions for, even if they don't know who he is. Isn't that the sincerest reward ? That, plus... he's probably paid as a mf ahaha ! But you're right though, many guitar players never heard of him and its a shame.
Weird that you released this video the day I randomly thought of this song and went to look for transcriptions... Good tone
Thanks man, how weird - It’s synchronicity!
Just needs Chicks "nod" of approval from the Elektric City" video to make this complete. Seriously excellent work !!
😆 Thanks very much, much appreciated!

Well spotted! it’s Carlos Rios on both. It’s a similar lick isn’t it, based on the same idea
Oh! I did not know that. What a pleasant surprise. It is a good lick, and a mighty fine one to practice as well. Cheers!
Esse era o vídeo que faltava no UA-cam. Te amo cara.

You’re welcome - glad you like it!
your thoughts are nice-----Thanks a lot!!
Thanks very much Manfred!
Electrik City is epic!
It’s a classic!
This is cool. Carlos is a fantastic player, I wish there was more of his fusion playing out there.
He’s great isn’t he! I’ve been checking out more of his stuff since doing this solo
@@PeteCallard there are some videos on UA-cam of the saxophonist Sadao Watanabe where Carlos takes some amazing solos. Check them out.
Thanks David, looking forward to seeing them!
Great video Pete, Carlos is an awesome player! Thanks man! 👍🎸
I heard Carlos Rios' playing first on the Gino Vanelli Brother To Brother album, was just outstanding
He’s great isn’t he, I need to check out more of his stuff
Fantastic! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Please! If you teach us the wonderful Carlos Rios solo in Cool Weasel Boogie. This is amazing and don’t exist video in you tube.🙏🏻
Thanks very much Carlos! I’ll bear Cool Weasel Boogie in mind

It’s a classic! Great guitar sound on it too. You’re right, Carlos Rios did do the Dancing On The Ceiling solo. So did you as I recall...
He wrote Dancing on the ceiling

Great stuff as always Pete. Great tone too 👍 Going to have a go at this one. Once I can get the Bergerac theme out if my head 😄
😂 The Bergerac reference has got more response than anything else in the video - I think I need to ditch the jazz & focus on old tv themes

That’s really interesting, thanks for all the information. It didn’t occur to me that he might have double tracked the solo to get that sound
por favor , puedes explicar que es un "Harmonizer"=?

@@SlikkTim That’s nicely put!
What did you use to get that harmonizer effect? Sounds great.
Thanks Mark, I talk a bit about it in the video - I think it was a pitch shifter plug in in Logic & a very short delay

Do the drums next!
Wish I could!
Bergerac ftw
Same bit is also We 3 Kings (if you play it over Gm)
@@PeteCallard references aside this is a really cool solo
It’s interesting note choices and phrasing isn’t it, with a rock edge
@@PeteCallard yeah, there's something really unusual about it that draws me in
