- Got me a x299 i 7800x for dirt cheap in the garage. After doing a build and tinkering with it, I was disappointed in the price to performance value years later.

You need 2 more sticks to make quad, it makes a huge difference. Also high speed mem kits with low lat plays a huge role on x299 platforms. Also, you need to OC your to 4.6ghz+ and bring the mesh to 30/31, 32 is possible. You'll find 30% gains at least
I might try that. Thanks for the info!!
2 more sticks and XMP on overclock on memories sticks dont forgot this, active XMP profile on BIOS put more MHz stable it profile XMP and FPS up is mutch better than you think i know becouse i have memory Kingston Fury Renegade black 2666MHz 4 channel i overclock to 3200 MHz stable and FPS up mutch than Standart if u dont active XMP the Memory work it 2133MHz or 2400MHz it Standart profile and now a memory is more cheap it 60€ u buy 2 more sticks 😁
U can haz high speed RAM. U can haz low latency RAM. U cannot - I repeat - cannot haz both, no sir. Pick one U haz to.
memory bandwith is useful when apps need bandwith, wich is not something that all do, like realtime stuff where you need fast response is latency bound more - think like browsing the internet, gaming, producing music,. Video is super bandwith dependant and grapics is a bit aswell.
@@noth606 yes you can, Samsung B Die, also Hynix A Die is pretty good and much more efficient.
X79 and x99 are definitely a sleeper of platforms!
yea the really are. my buddy did a x99 build and built a real nice rig for a good price.
what does it mean sleeper of platforms? could explain please?
x99 is great, unervolt, Avx2, ringbus architecture. While x299 is trash because almost nothing requires avx512 and the mesh was awful for realtime performance.
the HEDT cpus are meant to be run at max OC, since the IHS face is so big; it makes it easy to deploy all-core 4.5 - 4.7GHz with big coolers and lots of fans
Bro - You’re NYC accent is in full display in this one!!!!! Love it bro!
NYC all the way!!
Right now, there is no good "value" x299 motherboards for a variety of reasons. However, I did manage to acquire a couple of LGA2066 computer for a very good price. They are used Dell Precision 5820 workstations made in 2018 and just coming off the 3-year service contract. I replaced the original 4-core CPUs with Xeon W-2140B that I found on eBay for $110-115. Also just got a couple of 14-core Xeon W-2170B from China for less than $220.
agreed. blows my mind on the price of these. how the xeon alternative perform, thinkin about diving in that direction myslef.
@@DLMtechgarage As with most Xeons and their comparable Core i7/i9 parts, the Xeons are a bit slower since they are designed to run 24/7 if needed and not ever crash. Also, no overclocking these for the same stability reason.
Also, these 2140B and 2170B chips were designed for and put into Apple's 27 in iMac Pros exclusively. This means they are designed to not overheat within that All-in-One chassis.
Anyway, they seem to behave like Skylake parts, just with more cores. The Cinebench and Geekbench single-core scores are basically the same as that of the i7-6700, and the multi-core score basically scales up linearly with core count.
The challenge right now is finding compatible motherboards. They need motherboards with C422 chipset, which are expensive. The only possible inexpensive option are these off-lease enterprise machines but they are still relatively rare and expensive since not that many have come to the secondary market yet. Requires some luck to find them.
Intel HEDT is hot and inefficient, but every part is ahead of its time in terms of speed, and is really fun to overclock. Plus quad channel and nvme makes for such a snappy experience when doing productivity and creative tasks. At the end of the day though it's hard to find chips and boards at a good deal. They were crazy spendy back in the day.
speed and power are different things, x299 is like a truck, while z270 was more of a normal car. Truck is better for some work, but 100% of normal life and 90% of work is better done with a car.
I have the Asus Prime X299 Deluxe II mobo got it last year and i love it , love the built in OLED screen on the mobo too. They made the Prime line the flagship for the X299 instead of the ROG line.... even last year when i was looking the retail new was around 1200.00 usd so for 550.00 i jumped and found a 7820x cpu for now to fill the cpu socket, might go to 9th or 10th gen cpu and see whatr this mobo can really do with newer cpu than icelake gen
Your vids are amazing!.pls, never stop making them.
Thanks, will do!
I have a friend who wants to build a PC with x299 and i9-10900X. Worth it? I'm not sure if it runs games like counter strike with ease as well as Windows 11 is fully compatible.
That plataforma is for work not for gaming i have i9-7900x WATER COOLER - HYDRO- H100X Quad Channel Kingston Fury Renegade black 2666MHz CL13 4x8GB on Motherboard MSi Pró X299 and Sapphire Nitro+RX 6800 16 GB no XT and MSI MPG A850GF Gaming Power Supply - Full Modular - 80 PLUS Gold and i play all games 34 inch 3440p-1440p 144hz 1ms ips painel and this is brutal for me that processor is low but séries 1000X very good more FPS but for my gráfic card and monitor this Bild os Nice i play all gráfic on epic and no problem to me 🎉
My old direct die I9 7980x is faster than my new R9 7950x.
@@jk-mm5tosure? Including gaming?
got 7800x first, then 2 years later upgraded to 9920x paird with 32gbx8 2666 ram and nvme jbod card running 4 nvme gen 3.
running total of 5 nvme with one more to spare, x299 is all about the lanes less on the single core
Yea it's a solid system for sure and I love the potential and the power, but the price is just bad being who old it is. Most power house hardware tend to lower in value but this one still costs more then faster processors.
@@DLMtechgarage you are not wrong, today I will "sacrifice" some of the lanes and ram for a good 5950X.
back in 2017 when I got the 7800x, the 8700k came a month later and oh boy, did i felt duped as the 8700k was faster..
.
@@abooboo654 it' like when i bought a 2080 and litterally a month later the super came out lol..
Now You're Talking. Have 3 maxed out x99 Builds, two of them 1080ti's in SLI, then added 2 X299's. A 9900X / 2080ti / 64GB and a 10920X / 2080ti / 128GB ( it's all about their Lanes and Quad Memory ) Ya gotta luv the look of the CPU flanked by those 8 sticks of Ram. There's some nice looking Boards out there.
i have this board and cpu, i do like the board and cpu but i dont like the slow start up time. also not a big fan of that weird second M.2 slot other than that nice board and cpu combo, have it paired with 56GB of ram and 500gb nvme ssd
needs quad channel
what would be a good price for this mobo and cpu combo now? Looking for something to pair well with a 1660ti. And would you recommend it or steer towards something else?
You've got an Entry Level X299 Build there. CPU and Ram need a big improvement.
How are their x299 board? I have one of their x399 boards and it's been serving me well for the past couple of years.
fantastic. Solid overclocker, stable, plenty of pcie lanes, def works as a good workstation build. just the value for the price is not their.
X299 is only good for making "The Ultimate Windows 7 PC" as I like to call it, since the fastest officially supported CPU is the i9-9980XE which uses the X299 chipset. Still though, these motherboards and even the CPU I mentioned for that matter are oddly enough not falling in price despite how useless they are for everything else these days. (Considering the i9-9980XE is around the speed of an i5-14500, and that you can only go up to another powerhungry i9-10980XE with this socket)
Win 11 works fine on my x299
i have still got the 9980xe with 64gb 16x4 ram and rx 6800 using 1440p games works very well ..
Using only 500w, my direct die 7980x outperforms my new AMD 7950x at 150w. I only use Intel on cold winter nights.
you can go from the 7th to 10th gen in the x299 chipset not just the 7th gen boss....need to throw a i9-10980x to step up from your current cpu in that board... They always tell u not to send it in for rma in any box u want back because they wont send same box back...
yea i really need to up this cpu as the one I am using is showing its age
@@DLMtechgarage ohh and yeah quad ram config gives a major boost in performance on memory extensive apps...
I love x299 platform.. Some day i pay it.. I hope 😢
got an asus x99 board with an 8-core chip (e5-1660 v3). Its fully unlocked like the 8-core i7s, but it won't go higher than 4ghz unfortunately. Only paid $100 for all of it, but I think i'll sell the combo on ebay and just get a 12th gen i7 setup
I would, x99 is really starting to show age, also these setups where not designed for higher frequencies but more multicore applications.
@@DLMtechgarage multicore aplication like what?

Dual channel Ram configuration on a x299 Plattform ??? NO WAY !!!!
yea quad channel is def better with more performance. but did not have enough ram to test it lol...
top tier video
Until we can get back to normal & full production resumes, parts are going to remain high on ebay!
Very true though. This guy’s statistics aren’t necessarily very accurate
yea the scalping has not helped the issue at all.
@@Graphics_Card Ya, if I could sell my Collection of MB's for what 'They' want New or on E-Bay I'd be boxing them up now. lol. Have you seen the price of an ASUS X99 Rampage 5 Edition 10 ?
Good video
Thanks
whoa, just doing a video on how bad x299 is and i have a similar motherboard, total absolute junk stuff!
Future proofing is nonsense, you are much better buy the best price/value at given time and then buy a new one when needed, with x299 you paid more than double than a 7700 build, had worst gaming performance back then and MAYBE NOW would get better with x299 but you used so much more energy all the way, and still have a single machine compared to just getting a 5600x amd buiild in 2021 for much better performance and efficiency and having a second spare with the 7700 one.
love how this guy is bitching about how expensive a prosumer level setup is... 3 years later and x299 still has current processors... yes the i9-10980xe acording to intel ark is a current not discontinued processor...
Plenty of Pcie lanes!
cool
thanks.
but an amd cpu will die after 3-6 months, intel will last and continue to boot up for decades
2 sticks of ram for the setup, jokes on that.
