My friend Sally says she knows ya
got a funny point of you
Says you got away with murder
Maybe one time maybe two
Something happens in the morning
When I can’t see those failing eyes
I can’t find a good word for ya
Does it come as a surprise? I
Don’t think
We’d rhyme
I will wear you down in time
I will hurt you
I’ll desert you
I am Jackie down the line
Said did Sally ‘bout a future
Before you bored of her as well
If all you want is entertainment
If you can’t have it you make hell
Don’t make no odds for ye
To be told yeah
Don’t make no odds for ye
To be told

I don’t think

I will hurt you, I’ll desert you
I am Jackie down the line
I don’t think

I will make your secrets mine
I will hate ye
I’ll debase ye
I am Jackie down the line
Do do do
La la la
So come on down to Sally’s boneyard
See her spirit in decline
See the handsome mourners crying
They hawked a beating heart for a sturdy spine, yeah
What good is happiness to me
if I’ve to wield it carefully?
For care I’ll always come up short
It’s only right
I don’t think we’d rhyme
I will wear you down in time
I will hurt ye
I’ll desert ye
I’m one Jackeen of a line
I don’t think we’d rhyme
I will take up all your time
I will chew ye
I’ll go through ye
I am Jackie down the line
I don’t think we’d rhyme
I will make your secrets mine
I will hate ye
I’ll debase ye
I am Jackie down the line
And I will stone ye
I’ll alone ye
I am Jackie down the line
If I can make you
I can break you

I am 53, I heard this piece yesterday on a radio, and god, it was a pleasure to realize good music is still alive on earth. Love at first listen.
Amen, Brother. I’m 62 and totally agree
There are plenty of other great artists out there. I don't get why people are surprised there's great music out of the hundreds of new songs coming out monthly.

Timeless yet new. Familiar but completely fresh. I don’t know how they do it again and again!
Demonic possession is the only answer
You can readily hear the music that influences them but they make it their own. Easily the best new band of the last few years.
Listen to “safari” by MildredGold….. one of the greatest 14 y/o rappers from the 🇬🇧
cause everything^s been already done and they just trying to get the best out of it.. it's not even that hard if you think about it.. you just need a decent background and a few alike minds.. then you get high and there it is.. a familiar yet new song..
just sing with a thick Dublin accent and make the lead guitar sound slightly out of tune...
Is it just me or does this band radiate other epic bands like Radiohead, early New Order, a bit of The Smiths, Oasis, The Stone Roses and Joy Division? I think you guys are awesome!!
Exactly I’d like to say I really small hint of U2 in there too but it’s hard to hear lol
And Nirvana
I can definitely draw similarities between Fontaine’s and those bands.
I get more of a feel of Campag Velocet in their delivery than any of the usual suspects. The Smiths only, and only the sounds of "Meat Is Murder." Bits of King Krule maybe. Loose, jazzy with nice chords. They sound much fresher than all that.
Early arctic monkeys too
One of the most important bands right now. These guys are massively underrated
The Dublin rock scene is blowing up again with Fontaines DC and Inhaler
Right cuz! I got lucky one day on the way home from work and was listening to sirius xmu I think, and they had a interview with as they played songs from a heros death and I was hooked. Can't wait for this next album!

This song reminds me of how I felt completely touched from beyond when I first heard the Smiths “How Soon is Now”, and the Cures “a Forrest”, and the Stone Roses “I wanna be Adored”
🚀🚀
Completely agree! Had never heard of them but just heard this song on the car radio on my way home and could not wait to look them up. The energy reminded me of my favourite 70/80's band (Stiff Little Fingers).

i really hope they continue to grow and be successful because there’s really not a lot of post-punk/indie rock guitar bands seeing any sort of popularity the past few years and they’re definitely the best one out there.

Very “This Charming Man” vibes with the direction of the music video/flowers littered everywhere. Awesome song
4 mins with only 2 chords yet somehow such a full musical journey. Carried effortlessly by the vibe I jumped on board and only got off once it stopped.

Jackeen (Jackie Down The Line - Get it?) was used to describe Dubliners due to the area being under the control of Britain in the past in an area referred to as the Pale, the name is said to derive from the Union Jack or simply from the name Jack, commonly used in Britain. It originated as a pejorative term and is noted to be in use since the 1840s. His shirt, which is late 90's Dublin GAA (Hurling and Irish Football) style is the perfect compliment to the song.
Would love to know where to find the sweater!

Not anymore, These guys are getting the props they deserve as of late.
‘I don’t think we rhyme’…..Those words, and the dead delivery of what follows wraps killer tentacles around this song.
In a parallel universe, Britpop never ruined everything, and indie's still as it was meant to be. It's the late 90s and yet another great label emerges. It's called Partisan Records and, with a band like Fontaines DC, you may believe it's about to be as good as Factory or 4AD
This could just as well be an ash single what are you taking about lmao
@@eisbardotdot mmmmh 🤔 not exactly.. Ash were much weaker.. Placebo or Interpol maybe? Still not as good
@@MickAneworderfan Hard disagree - although I think Skinty fia sounds just like taste in men by placebo so I’d give you that on THAT song. I’m not saying it sounds just like Ash,and maybe Ash wasn’t pure Britpop either but the song is closer to classic britpop/madchester (and placebo is MUCH closer to britpop than interpol, friend) so I find your original post quite odd. You do realize this is very influenced by stone roses, as much of britpop was - oasis, suede et al? This doesn’t sound anything like Interpol, this is more jangly, earlier interpol was more sparse and jagged - Fontaine D.C.‘a first two albums maybe, which are more straight post punk and those sound more like Gang of Four than Joy Division to my ear haha. So many bizarre takes on this video.
@@eisbardotdot Ash were very pop, the only thing I liked about them was the chick. I never really liked Placebo or Interpol either, not enough talent simply. This song definitely reminds me PRE-Britpop indie, when it was less cynical and more emotional. Bands like Adorable or the Blur of Leisure. There were those "Indipendent Top 20" compilations on Beechwood Records. This song could have been on any CD released between 1989 and 1992, before "alternative" music degenerated. Today there's a lot of great music, but more in the hip hop, dance and jazz fields. Fontaines DC are some of the very few who can still do something good with a guitar
@@MickAneworderfan oh please there’s a thousand guitar bands and love life by lush was just as a good as spooky. You’re acting like Pulp was meaningless. Mansun was post Britpop and created some of the most impenetrable guitar based alt rocks of the time with Six. You’re just wrong lol.

IMO this song combines the best parts of the first two albums - confident, fast paced and listenable like dogrel, but moody, interior, and sparse like a hero’s death.
