Well said, I agree music should just be more than a romantic boy chase girl / vice versa story telling. Through music, you should convey a message, your ideology and Philosophy on how you perceive life, for example
I'm 48 and this is the first band in my adult life to give me the same feeling I had as a teenager discovering new music. I will forever be grateful to Grian and co. for this.
Something about this guy..... there's a natural star quality about him.... I honestly thought real music was done but yet again we have been blessed with a prophet of the Arts..... can not wait to see what this guy and the band are going to give us
This is like The Sun newspaper or rag. You can see Grian's well versed, being himself & smiling all of a sudden there's something wrong 😂😂😂 great tune dont know about the new look but whatever floats your boat, nice touch with the family 🎵🇮🇪🎵

To be honest I don’t think this interview was as bad as everyone is saying, yeah it was slightly awkward but I think overall groan got to put his points across
English witt and Irish witt are completely different, especially Dublin witt... Inner city dubs are the most honest, funny and genuine people you could ever meet.... and im a meath man/ culchie!
@Canwepleasehavefun1 I know, he was born in England but has spent more time in ireland and classes himself as a dublin man and he's never lied and said he was born in ireland so there's no fabrication at all, just great music.
@pilgrim3387 yes I totally agree, there are so many British comedians that we irish love but witt and banter are completely different to stand up comedians so I disagree that we have similar witt, both funny but different. It would be boring if we were all the same 😁
From across the pond, here, so I have no point of reference for Jools' performance, but it didn't seem more awkward than any other senior person trying to talk to someone 50 years younger than themselves 😜 Grian's rather quick though with calling his dad out for more football cards 😂😂😂
This is a wonderful interview. An artist with a million times more intelligence, wit and character than Jools Holland. Jools thought he could outsmart him and belittle him but instead came away looking a fool. Brilliant.
Bit of historical trivia for the uninitiated - Grian's accent in Ireland is known as a 'Pale' accent. It comes from the days when the British colonised the area around Dublin. A lot of Dublin natives still speak with an English twang on some words - here, you can hear it when he says the word 'record'.
Yeah. Love Fontaines DC. Grian is a visionary poet. Jools was a bit of a dick in this interview. Oh you collect mud. Wtf? Grian responded with sincerity and authenticity. Respect. Irish roots.
Seems like they fired the stylists 😂 In all serious though I'd be interested to know if there's anything more to the new aesthetic for the band other than perhaps taking the piss out of the indie rock, cool look.
I don't know this Jools person but he seems a bit fuddy-duddy. 😅 I'm Gen X and I thought the responses from Grian were charming, funny, and thoughtful. Hello from California! 😎🌴
@@bigbrainmcflurry2425I feel like people say this to jump on the cool bandwagon now. Old U2 had some absolute bangers with great lyrics. Like all great bands they've had their day but they have some classics. Each to their own. It's all art
Most Irish people don't like U2 check out Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan & Mick Flannery 3 great artists that come to mind, also Whipping Boy the album Heartworm is a treasure 🎵🇮🇪🎶
Great band for sure, I found Grian a bit arrogant but maybe out of shyness, interesting interview though full of Irish wits and tongue in cheek humour, but it's amazing that Ireland produces many interesting musicians for such a small country.
i can't believe jools still has a job. decades of cringe interviews. still an employee of the BBC. unbelievable - so many people would love to have his job and would do it so much better.
Grian makes the interview difficult by being a bit disrespectful in his manner. Take your hand away from your mouth when you speak and stop smirking and looking away when asked a question. If he doesn't want to be interviewed he should just stick to the music which is great tbf.
Not everyone is 100% comfortable in interviews, especially not with a live audience. That behaviour might be nervousness. He might want to do interviews, and he might want to get better at it, but in order to do so you need to do lots of interviews to get more comfortable. Its common trendy moody teenager music, attached to it a sense of superiority of an ncad kiddie who thinks he knows too much. Its good like, but not as good as its made out.
Grian just answered Jools questions on how he sees the world, nothing wrong with that, great band, one of our modern-day poets in the making❤ 🇮🇪

Agreed . Also big DM and Cure fan and this album is a classic.
Right there with you!
You took the words from my mouth.
I’m 68, saw The Cure and Depeche Mode last year. I feel you with this band. They’re special!
Agreed. While just a little younger they fit with Depeche Mode and Cure and so.on

I love this band’s aesthetic. It’s off the charts.
I love his deep sounding voice 🥺
In a world where people morphing into clones of each other this artist just shines! Proud 💚☘️💚☘️
Jools swings the keys off the board, but Jayzuz, as an interviewer - pure class to Grian for stickin through.
Absolutely special band with WISDOM in the air...LOVE THIS BAND A LOTTIE 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
This interview made me watch Black Books again!
He had a Bernard Black vibe in this interview! 😆
Great interview. Love it
Just found this band, Favorite is just beautiful!
It’s a future classic

He's a curious soul. These sort of people weren't meant for televised interviews.
Saw them playing in Connolly s of Leap ,West Cork 2018 to crowd of 100-150 . Knew then they were going places, the spark was there and lit.

I don't agree with that. We would have a similar witt, I'd say. Some of the best bbc comedies would be loved by the irish.

Grian a strange mix of profound and silly.
Beautiful man!
Since discovering this band I've always wondered if Grian collected snow globes. Glad jools cleared that one up for me
Its like a scene from Peep Show. Perfect.
I lost it at 'are you around after' hahahaha. Grian's got bants.

Grian flexing his look and his countrymen in smoothest way possible, hahaha
“A snow globe? Like one that you shake?” poor interview from Jools. Watch grian’s interview with John Kelly, much more insightful and honest
Jools missed so many points. What a bright talented young man Grian is.
This guy's a trip.
These guys are the real deal.
Lads this is grand
This is a wonderful interview. An artist with a million times more intelligence, wit and character than Jools Holland. Jools thought he could outsmart him and belittle him but instead came away looking a fool. Brilliant.
Indeed, something's up with Holland, he's decided to be purposefully more awkward than usual.
Not even an awkward interview in my opinion. Jools seems a little out of touch but the vibe was decent.
Im from Skerries Co. Dublin, Ireland
The Fontaines are from Skerries, Co.Dublin, Ireland. Doing our town proud lad.

I love Jools Holland but he was poor here. Grians putting a great deal of thought and wit into his answers and isnt getting much back
Nah he’s doing alright… I don’t understand the hate or anything from this interview.
Dead atmosphere, they don't gel together at all
Peculiar hearing the audience laugh in that setting though.
Jools has been interviewing musicians for 40 years and is still absolutely awful at it.
