My new book, THE ENFP CALLING, is out now in Audiobook (I narrated), Print, and Digital. It's on Amazon (amzn.to/3Hn75Wv ), Audible ( www.audible.com/pd/The-ENFP-Calling-Audiobook/B0D79QMDCR? ), and most everywhere else you can get books ( books2read.com/enfp ).

And before you think "Oh god, another UA-camr / Coach wrote some sh*tty book summarizing their videos...Scout's honor...this book is the furthest thing from regurgitation. It's 270 pages (or 8 hours on audiobook) of new ideas, stories, and insights. Check out the reviews on Amazon ( amzn.to/3Hn75Wv ).

This is so true for me. Ever since I learned my personality type, I've forgiven myself for not always sticking with things and having a bunch of hobbies. I always admired people that didn't get bored and stuck with one hobby enough to master it. Now I find that I have a great type for teaching middle school. I get to mix it up all the time! And now, much later in life, I find I do have the discipline to stick with learning an instrument. That particular hobby does frustrate me at times, but also is rewarding AND challenging enough to keep me going. I think this is mainly because I get to play music with other people and it really suits an ambivert. Being an ENFP is awesome fun!

wow I'm an ENFP teacher too and after watching the video I was like welllll teaching really does help with keeping things fresh and not getting too bored haha. We get new kids each year and summers off to reconnect with our hobbies or go on fun vacations! :D I also played instruments as a kid, and keep wanting to get back into it.

I have a variety of interest, from studying language to dropping it off to try short films to being a SoundCloud artists, to a UA-camr, to a fanfic writer, to audition in a K-pop company, to become a singer, to become a director, until I get older I tried to go into Social Media Management, and I have a degree in Real Estate. I worked at a high security psychiatric hospital running group therapy. Because the majority of patients were in a psychotic episode, and I never knew which patients would show up, I had no idea what the group was going to be “about” (even though I had to have a plan), and I didn’t know if it was going to be beautiful and profound, disturbing, scary or hilarious. Often it was all of those.
People would say, “how can you handle working there?”
I would say, “because whatever it is, it’s never boring”.
A perfect job for an ENFP 😉😊

Wow. I just discovered I’m an ENFP. I’ve been on a 2 year self growth after my life seemed to be directionless, relationship in a rut, burnt out from 15 years of doing anything and everything. I’ve been tackling my unconscious and really understanding myself. I recently started wondering how is it that I could come up with 5 different business plans in a day yet never really excel and perfect my current role. truly I’ve never had a video speak to me like this. The best thing happened to my life when you told me that I can focus and do my works better than ENTJ's and ESTJ's, because you know everyone says that ENFP don't do their jobs at time and I was like believing these things although I know that I'm not lazy or useless, But I'm starting to suspect that my inner voice is just an illusion, but not now.. I feel better ♡ thank you

ENFP lie and shiny object syndrome is so true for me. I make good excuses whenever I move to new things without finishing the first one.
I am interested in learning languages and l love taking language proficiency tests. At first, I took Korean language proficiency tests just for fun and at one point, I got to the level where I can use that language for academic purposes and studying abroad. But I lied to myself that I studied Korean just for fun and not to study abroad because I wanted to move on to next language(Japanese) and other interests. After 2 years, my certificate expired and the test has not been held because of the pandemic.
Fortunately, the Korean test will be held this year and I plan to take it again.

Thanks. Since I found you, I don't feel like a loser anymore. Finally, someone who is fighting the same battle and who also gives the solutions. Thanks for your advice. I am struggling to convert to the IT field. I changed areas several times, but I stayed in the web development area from last year, with some short changes towards QA, etc. and comebacks. I kept this area. It's hard sometimes, but I like it and I calculated to finish the course in March. I really want to see the winner myself. You said in a video that ENFPs, although it's hard to get ahead, are good at what they do. That's what I dream of too. To master a field at least very well and not be left without jobs and with multiple experience but none complete.

I think that we got all a bit too focussed on having fun at work, or doing a work that can give meaning to our lives.
I believe that work is good to stay connected and to get an income, bit as a true ENFP I came to realize that our lives are about relationships, connections, knowledge and experiences.
We are those who on their deathbeds will truly think of their most loved ones, or the most special places we visited, or the most extraordinary human experiences we lived, and our funniest and most dramatic moments.
We will not give a damn to how much money we made or the job title we reached.
Thankfully, the (friendless) ENTJs are running the world while we are just… living! 😄

    • @enfp
      @enfp  4 місяці тому

Really interesting comment! I have a chapter on this in my book. It is true that on their deathbeds people speak of friends, happiness, and wishing they didn't work so hard.
It is also true they say "I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me."
And I might say that for many people and many jobs, it becomes very hard to not work hard, be happy, and be true to yourself, in an environment that sees you as a tool for productivity.
Whether your purpose should be actualized in your vocation, well, is up for debate...but for me I do best focused on one thing and putting a lot of my energy into it, and that means my income is best tied to my purpose.

For me, because I start so much and quit with glitter and butterflies 🦋 I am that person that has made myself finish or given myself a timeframe. For example, I don’t allow myself to stay at a job less than a year. But this has caused me to have decision paralysis. Meaning I’m afraid to choose the wrong thing, to put my energies in the wrong direction. For 4 years now I have delayed going back to school because I am afraid to choose the wrong path. I am an RN. I don’t want to be one any more. I want to run a nonprofit place to help those in domestic violence or those at risk to become in that situation. I need a master’s. But.... you see it’s hard for me to commit due to my previous experiences of my own personality.

I ran into the same problem and was dealing with the same fear to the point where it was almost crippling. Counselling helped me a lot, and something my therapist pointed out really hit me. She reminded me that life is not black and white, it's a whole mess of grey; that the 'good' decisions always still hold some bad and vice versa. At the end of the day, every decision teaches us a lesson, if we are open and willing to learn it. And any lesson learned is ultimately a positive experience regardless. I hope that brings you some peace too as it really helped me, although I still have my ups and downs of course!

I am an ENFP but sadly I just learned this today. I believe I left my wife of 8 years if not solely because she didn't let me do the "fun sporadical things" that would have torn my life apart, than definitely mostly because she wouldn't let me do the "fun sporadical things" that would have torn my life apart when she helped me build myself to where I am in the first place. I need help. Lots of it.

I think my need for excitement is lower and a bit more internalized than most ENFPs, I'm 4w3 which I've heard changes things quite a bit. I have a few regular hobbies / skills in my routine that I can always take on new challenges with. High intensity sports like hockey is one of them, not much is more thrilling than practicing a new skill that I can then take to a highly competitive game in order to be a better player. I play for fun but have so much intensity behind it that I often am keeping up with guys who play at college level.
I believe you're describing the type 7 ENFP who needs much more excitement. I need excitement too, but I dont want to do anything too crazy to meet that need.

Wooow, this video just look so different from previous ones! It was great, Dan! The "Dad would be proud" part was the funniest XD I'm loving this new format, really.
Definitely you need to do something different once in a while, or else you will benumb ("embotar" in Spanish). For example, I'm near to publish my first book (wish me luck!), and last friday the publishing house gave me finally the prototipe. I needed to read the book and look for any type of mistakes. I read 420 pages in 7 seven days. The last two days I read probably 150 pages, I was just in the perfect flow to do that. It was fun, it was exciting, but I did this revision taking some pauses to do something different but short, like watching few and short UA-cam videos in order to not get benumbed. It worthed. Now I just have to wait probably 2 weeks until the books are finished and printed.
After I sent the corrections to the publishing house in thursday, yesterday I did very different things, and all of them unplanned: doing exercise with my prop katana, watching UA-cam videos and an episode of a new anime, playing hours with lego and taking a walk at my neighborhood; I did things that didn't involucrate reading (although I had to check some of my students' homeworks). Then today I went to work (teaching Japanese), gladly a fun work, and I've been here relaxing for some hours. And I feel just in the right vibe to do some of my usual work tomorrow.
So in short, probably commit some especific time to what is necessary to achieve your goal, and have between that time some spaces to do fun, non-routinal and unplanned SHORT activities, and then giving one or two days of rest if possible could be useful.
    And that's it!
    A hug from Costa Rica!

Amazing Dan! So glad to see this one. I would like to understand better how to achieve goals by using our strengths more. I do find the traditional ways impossible.
I resonate with almost all of this, knew some of it, and learned a few things. Thanks for always being awesome!
My biggest realization was to pick the thing that I think would make the most impact and do it for the summer and that’s been my daily walk/meditation/audio journal routine. It’s been going great!
I’m not seeing the results I want but I’ve convinced myself to keep going and I know I’m benefiting even if it’s not as much as I want.
I’m going to try and do this for an extended period of time and rewire my life in a similar fashion.

Awesome video Dan!! Very fun and enjoyable to watch!!
I love the point you mentioned in another video a loooong time ago, from The War of Art by Steven Pressfield: Basically, just keep showing up. I think this is especially related to lying to ourselves and shiny object syndrome. But good things happen if we temporarily forego those to really see things through to completion. I find that if I keep working at something for long enough, my work process optimizes itself (assuming I'm interested in the thing; otherwise, I just burn out like you said) and the work becomes more and more streamlined, efficient, and enjoyable. And then I get the satisfaction of seeing the hard work pay off in a finished album, website, book, etc. or even just growth and confidence, like in the case of career.
Great stuff and looking forward to the next!

So Enfp strength is they can find alot of ways to getting things done but they just doesn't follow through. So if they can have a discipline they can even beat Estj/Entj in anything but they just don't have it. I think that's why it's the same as Entp, that based on studies shows they're really poor in their early life and beat an Entj when they are in 40s because of developed Si. It's kind of like Enfp/Entp are talent without hard work and Estj/Entj are pure hardwork. So to simplify it Enfp can be the most successful people in the world if they just have a discipline, and seems like most of them don't have it.

I only have time management issues. Commitment and consistency is the thing I've been appraised for in my organisation. Rather many people in our community are seen nowadays not that committed or burnt out about anything long-term or committing on things. That's why they appreciate that trait of mine. I just wish the time management thing would be fixated.

that explains why I cheated.. stupid me - learned my lessons. (disclaimer: not blaiming it on my personality type, the mistakes I made were still my decision and I just didn't know any better)

I have a question though. I mean, it is true, throughout my whole life I’ve had many hobbies and continue to place great importance on them as they bring me variety and excitement. However, despite having them, I still struggle with work and relationships. In the end, they always get boring. I always get restless and want to leave and do something new. I also have issues focusing at work and consistently working 8 hours 5 days a week. I still don’t understand how to tackle this after watching this video…

Real Anne. I share similar interests with the varied hobbies you talked about in your previous comment. It feels like we're living the same lives. Now my channel is in coma stage, my interests and talents too. It's so hard to get back on track :(

I think it is madness to spend a lot of time on something for very little return, which naturally happens as you reach a plateau. Considering many other learning curves dying to be climbed by my curious mind it isn't time efficient for my 'goal' which is non linear in the first place.

Enfp. Done through 20000 hours for skill. Horrible. Just Horrible. Burned down. Learning to love life again. Found a solution to success. Forget logic and outside authority. Make out of fun only.
