And before you think "Oh god, another UA-camr / Coach wrote some sh*tty book summarizing their videos...Scout's honor...this book is the furthest thing from regurgitation. It's 270 pages (or 8 hours on audiobook) of new ideas, stories, and insights. Check out the reviews on Amazon ( amzn.to/3Hn75Wv )

I'm an ENFP that struggles with anxiety & depression and has had a hellish 2020 with everything that's been going on. I so relate to finding "rest" in old movies. I actually often find myself having phases where I can't mentally keep up with all the new TV shows I want to watch and end up re-bingeing shows i've seen hundreds of times (The Office U.S., Parks & Rec, Friends, etc) and now I can fully understand why I do this. I give up so much of my mental space to thinking about the future (and mostly being anxious about it) so I bring myself back to the present by putting on something familiar with no surprises so I can stop thinking ahead and simply just "enjoy" that moment.

Rely on the best thing about you. Your close friends. Things will get better. The world is not ending. Money is nothing, you may go broke before you find your niche. If I were to give you advice I would say it's not what you know but who you know... Or in my case who you meet along the way. Follow your heart, never give up. You're an ENFP ... people love you.
      Keep moving forward!!!!!

Yooooo I went thru that too. I have high risk health problems so I have been quarantined this entire time. I missed people so I found connections by watching shows and relating to the characters and their friendships. The way I handled anxiety was to do the best I could and keep myself safe and healthy. Just keep doing your best so you don’t feel guilty and let go of things that you can’t change (this is hard). After you come out of this time, life will be more vivid and you will have a sort of renaissance (for me it was an increased interest/skill in art and music). You got this, and if you need help, we got you!! 🥰🌸

I've never related to someone so deeply aha, I'm also an ENFP who struggles with depression and anxiety and I'm always watching old episodes of the office and finding rest in classics that I love. I hope you find comfort in not feeling alone in who you are, as I know loneliness can be quite the killer.

You just made me realize why I’ve become so lazy and comfortable and why it bothers me. Lately I’ve been working on my Si (unknowingly) by trying to look deep into myself as to find some sort of answer as to what would make me more satisfied in life. I usually chase ideas but more recently I get too overwhelmed and discouraged opting towards sitting inside alone playing games or watch youtube. I have been relying on nostalgic activities to comfort myself instead of leaning into my impulses. I may be comfortable but I am not satisfied, now I see what needs to change.

TWO parents from different nationalities, religion, and culture . Very diff. even the languages. We lived SaudiArabia, Europe. For my diplomatic dad's job Traveling was phenomenal for me developing my mind.
So as an ENFP-A, I am a wiz in linguistic traits. Easy to fit in different cultures.

Omg... I was really like what you've described. In my early 20s, I liked too many things, I was attracted by most of the people.. I was so confused at that time.. I felt like my mind was like a messy room.
So I tried all the things that's appealing, I met many many different types of people. Sometimes other friends thought that I need to concentrate on one thing and be professional at it. And I a lot of times hated myself why am I like this.
I think l experienced like 3 times more than what normal people would.
Now I'm in late 20s and I'm more and more satisfied of the decision I'm making. I now know that even though people have attractiveness, there are few people whom I can sustain deep relationship with. Now I know what I don't like, now I know among many values what is more priority for me.
As you said, I know what I want faster, I know my life value priorities and I'm so satisfied of myself still continuously developing myself. 🙂🙂😊

THATS AMAZING MAN HOW FAR YOU'VE COME AND YOUR STILL GOING!!!
I managed to set up a little business, get organised and just smashed it for like a year but here comes the excuses lol.. covid lockdowns wasn't good and started doing pain killers and now I keep coming off them lasting a little while and going back on to them. I was expecting a fall after going realy high with setting up the business and my head in the clouds but not as bad as it has been. Its weird it's like I have 2 extreme personality's. 1 that realy wants to do well and achieve all my goals/dreams and the other which is self destructive and realy wants me dead I think!
Anyways I'm starting to realy understand more about my personality now with finding all of this so hopfuly and in God's will it will help me to get back up and hopfuly level my extremes out a bit 🙏
      All the best

It makes a lot of sense. You can't go forward if you're stuck in the past, so that's why we process things so fast. I just need to learn that sometimes it's needed to reflect the past to go forward in the right direction. I'm in my early twenties and I still have a lot to learn. I somewhat have a clue of where I want to go in life, but it's only a few years in the future.. I'm still a mess but at least I know my personal values. Thanks for the insight. :)

  • @ES1077
    @ES1077 3 роки тому +2

Thank you for this video...very helpful in intuiting my own situation and how to break through.
ENFP...I find a major life event that upsets going forward as predicted puts Ne and Te on pause. Illness, loss, breakup, etc... Fi went into shock: I felt wrong personally...shame that I didn’t see it coming. I am the eternal optimist and don’t look for the external pattern of possible negative life impacts. Si wants things to go back to the way they were. Breaking thru this Fi/Si despair with the sudden passing of my husband of 42 years has been a learning experience these last 2 years. Ne/Te/FI kicked in: to do the “right thing”.even though it all felt so wrong that this was my life: rituals of memorials, burial, clearing, crying, yelling at God, etc...all predictable and normal, but my ENFP did not predict or consider it normal. The ENFP blind spot?
The Fi is still challenged in accepting the new normal as me...single. I feel married which has been my external experience these many years. I am dating and have met some good people...which is helping to internalize my feeling identity as single. I know Te wise, I am single. Fi seems to require the external experience to feel it as my truth.
Si is even slower to adjust. Extreme self care with meditation, journaling, daily bubble bath soaks, quiet in nature, etc...is unthawing the internal sense from ‘alone” to “being on my own.” An important distinction. Time and patience is easing Si into a positive experience of self.
Ne and Te is restless to get on with it! Fi says I’m not ready for big ideas...go with the flow and love ourselves to build a solid foundation to support our life now and for the future. Ne responds, It is only year 2, the identity crisis of a major life change is normal, I’ll keep looking for patterns that will help; exercise is important, counseling? Te-keep it simple this year; stay focused on the most important...let go of the rest. Write down 3 things and do those...chunk it out, celebrate small successes.
Overall, I do see and know there is a bright future for me. I’ve lived an extraordinary life for which I am grateful and love the journey of discovery and experiencing it all. I hope this helps someone out there that may be going thru a period of loss or confusion as an ENFP and respecting all of the functions to work it thru. With love for all of us! E

As an old fart (I’m 62) ENFP, I can tell you that the extroverted intuition and introverted feeling will become great strengths and superpowers for you as they develop. For me, they’ve come out as knowing what to say to someone to help them think about a troubling situation in their life in a new and more freeing way. You will come to know deeply what your values are, and your intuitions about people/situations/other phenomena, and you’ll be able to act swiftly and decisively in ways that are consistent with your values. This is awesome for living a life of integrity! Cheers!

They don’t understand ENFPs! They’re probably Sensers, not Intuiters, or Thinkers, not Feelers. It IS one of our superpowers to be super curious, and “cross pollinate” ideas/phenomena to come up with some new combination that the world hasn’t seen before. Besides, isn’t it boring to just study one thing at a time? 😁 You need a break every so often! Cheers!

We were in a five year relationship and it was great, but ultimately it felt like we held each other back towards the end, maybe because we were a little too similar and played into eachothers worst impulses. That’s very interesting, because my last relationship was ENFP/ENFP and while it was great in many ways, I felt like when it came to matters of organization and getting things done, I constantly had to take on all the responsibility or get comfortable with nothing getting done at all, as this wasn’t either of our strength. It left me feeling a bit more like a mother at times, rather than a partner. So I’ve really come to appreciate the “J” and find that I can connect naturally and share a lot with ENFJs. Plus, I think I can actually slip into being a bit more introverted than I think is natural for me, so I like how extroverts keep me more outgoing.
That just kind of raised the interest in this particular combination of types 🤓🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m an ENTJ (INTJs cousin we have the exact same functions just different order) who dated an ENFP for a very long time and have had many ENFP friends. I will say you guys are EXTREMELY likeable. I have Ni as my second function so I love your intuitive nature. You guys have good ideas too and it’s very fun to go on these abstract mental adventures with you guys. I do have some constructive criticism to give, (assuming you’re an ENFP) so maybe you can work on this. As a dominant Te user, logic is my way of life (same with INTJs btw). My problem with the ENFP is it’s not possible to reason with logic. You guys just don’t respond to it no matter how hard I try to break it down. You guys will just do whatever the hell you feel like doing, and then you find yourself at 35 years old and still having done nothing with your lives (sorry if that’s a rude wake up call). The problem is you don’t listen to peoples advice no matter how much sense it makes. You’re more concerned with having fun and socializing that you avoid taking on any responsibility or boring tasks that bring you closer to your goals. Fortunately you’re very likable so you can pretty much just get other people to help you with the hard stuff, but how far can you really go if you never feel like taking on the workload? Of course it’s uncomfortable working on the process and I understand that being a low Se user definitely doesn’t make it easier for you, but you NEED to focus and work on that. Your functions are like a muscle and they will become stronger the more you use them. There’s much more to life then just shooting the shit with your friends and wasting all your time accomplishing nothing. Pick out a ONE goal, and work on it RELENTLESSLY. I know you guys have a new goal every week but really try to pick the most important one (buying a house, building a business, finishing school, learning a language, starting a UA-cam channel, etc). Quit chasing after fun all the time and go accomplish at least one thing and I promise you will feel so proud of yourself. You can start with working 10 minutes a day on your goal and slowly work your way up. The key is to be CONSISTENT and to do it every. Single. Day. With no excuses like oh I’m hungover, or oh I have to go to a party soon, or oh I actually my dog needs a bath. Just focus on your goal, and work until you’ve reached it. Quit fucking around.

I really appreciate your comment, I don't like to be this way, I do pay attention to friend's advice (mostly when I reach the bottom of some project failure). It is really hard to finish chores, it drains me and it's the gate of more unfinished duties/projects. Despite I all independent and don't like to others mess up with my unconventional lifestyle, I would love to have an assistant that push me to do my things.
The very few times I have used an scheduled to do list, it has worked well for me. I will do my best to stick with it.
Again, thank you for your words, it's the kind of punch in the face I need in order to be functional. I wish I could have more of those punches so I could train myself to be able to function properly in the world.
Big hug and blessings for you 🤗 ✌️

As a newly discovered ENFP at 38 years old, who before 35 it would of looked like I achieved nothing, now knows why I lived a crazy ass life before. I have the memories of all my family and friends, all the pieces fell together, all the multiple paths I went on, I have pieced them together like a jig saw, this is now in motion as everyone still sits in the same misery repeating the same patterns, I can help navigate with more detail. I now have entered the age to back me up where people take me more seriously, so the wisdom I have gathered from every experience, the good and the bad can now be relayed as our Te takes time (still causing problems as covid has left some of us living introverted, so not enough people to exercise this function on, making those who love us mental lol and me to voice my shit online gah) and Fi needs listening to, like actual, not this spontaneous (F)uck (i)t thing we do and take on more distracting activities, Fi is a personal one but there is your ticket to helping your ENFP friends with personal growth. We need locking up sometimes then we are forced to hear our F function not our pain in the ass T one, this has taken a full global pandemic for me to stop long enough to really have this lesson sink in (T.M.I. warning: I time mine when Fe starts having issues, werewolf time, normally a hormone attack 2 days before my period, took my whole life to see a self-harming pattern then take action on this, this would of been helpful years ago, close myself in my caravan and introspect). I should of been kinder to myself then maybe I would of learned to love my body as a vehicle, and my mind as my child self, learning to fuel it, maintenance etc. Learning that ST is a child/toddler function so treat it as so, imaginative, creativity, curiousty but disobedient, ADD charged, oblivious asf until we figure it was never the crazy life that is the problem as everyone says, it is the communication we have with ourselves when we are alone that dictates our movements in "reality". Personally when I was living more for the extroversion, the only thing I regret now is the decisions I made when I wasn't listening to myself, and when the world is ok again, I am looking forward to the crazy, just a bit more solid in myself, the experiences will be healthier, so my S function will follow, like a good little toddler (this is a future experiment, I actually never know, I'm the only thing I can't predict which means I have to be aware of all paths, making no path concrete, see the issue?). Good things take time, stick with the ENFP's in your life one day they will make sense lol and now the ENFP apology for Te just doing what Te does... goes on and on and on

Id love to see the video about developing quicker or slower. My mother has been telling me since day one that i always want to be 6 steps ahead on everything, like i want to master life and mature quickly. I am 28 and a mother of 3 and that has helped me developed my extraverted thinking as i need to be reliable and am responsible for many things and people, so now im quite organised. I think my SI is also very good as my family has a lot of traditions and we think and talk about the past and movies in a good way, so it’s very relaxing and comforting to go back to the same old things….that never fail.
It was a great video, so helpful. Thanks you 😃

Lately I’m really stress about something , stress about this and that and all the other things, but I always tried to move forward really fast and rarely dwell on the past and not sit in the feelings. But sometimes revisiting things are actually comforting , I didn’t know in the past but now I know, thanks for your explanation. I guess I’m developing a phase that’s coping with my stress and I think it’s better for me sometimes to slow done. Just an example of watching show, I’m always afraid of watching old shows, that I put time into watching old things and not on the new, while knowing that watching the old things are conforting but still have anxiety. Maybe sometimes I just need to slow down. When i get hurt from feelings, I always think of possibility and futures and not sit in the feelings for too long. It’s tiring to do that , also another thing that my INFP friend is always taking photos and videos of fun things and memory of life. I guess it’s nice to do that to allow us to revisit some moments in life to reflect. I never do those before meeting this friend, because I didn’t know the point of doing so. And if people come and go, why bother having pictures recorded. If they stick around, they do, if they don’t, we do something new. But I guess the value in saving those precious memories are valuable so we can revisit some happy time and time of frustration and where we at now. I didn’t like the idea before of revisiting the past and found out now we are missing our dear friends and things. But today I cleaned my closet and found some old birthday cards that my friend made for me, it’s heartwarming to me even thought we are not as close anymore, but in the things I saw, those heartfelt moment linger and marks what we felt in the past. It was beautiful and not sad, I was surprised.

I think that I had found the difference between the ENFp, ENTp, and INTJ and INFJ.
Since the first two have Si as their inferior or oppositional function, that means that besides the PoLR of socionics, this is one of the most weaker functions. However, in socionics, those types have Se as their role function. Meaning that they have easier access to it. As such, for an ENFp and an ENTp is easier to make decisions on the moment using their Se. However, because they have stronger access to Se, and less to Si, that means that those types have a harder time learning from their mistakes.
On the other hand, INTJ and INFJs have Si as their role. Meaning that they will ruminate more on their past in order to see what mistakes they did, and how they can correct them in the future Ni. Since their Se is inferior or oppositional and is weaker than their Si, that means that they will be in a constant state of rejecting reality and reflecting.
I wrote this because I was about to ask you based on some things that I wanted to say, if I'm an ENFp or INTJ.
However, since I had discovered this difference, I think that the answer is pretty clear.
You can still tell me if it is relatable to you as an ENFp. Is it?

If I may (I’m 62 and have some experience doing this), pay attention to your emotional reactions to things, starting with what you say or do in response to some stimulus. There are lists of words that describe feelings on the Web; I suggest finding one and keeping it handy to look at. With practice, you’ll start noticing that you feel differently about different things, and then notice the subtle differences among feelings. The feeling word list will help you differentiate among them. Then, you may come to notice that your body has different sensations in it with your different emotional reactions; they are strong clues to what you’re feeling, too. This was part of my process, and I’m still working on it. I hope this helps you. My wounded INTP mother tried to get me to shut down my feelings, and it took me a very long time to work into them. Keep trying; they’re important! Good luck!👍

About 11:15 : "Generally we won't get stuck in the past and dwell on it"....well, I guess I'm the unhealthy type ^^". I tend to be nostalgic and regret many of my decisions given that I take them impulsively and irrationally. I mostly get regretful in my dreams. Almost every night. That sometimes even wakes me up. Even when I'm sleeping my brain is still messing up with me. Otherwise I tend to be overthinking about the future. One thing is clear, I am never living in the present moment. I often do look at the past, because my life is so sucky and I miss how it used to be. Does that make me not an ENFP? Or am I an ENFP who isn't functioning properly because of nurture, even though I'm an ENFP by nature? Smaller things that happen or things that don't affect my entire life I usually don't think much about and even forget. I never really hold grudges and I forgive easily. I never really look back into the past to learn from it, only to long for my life to be that way again
I'm also analytical. I enjoy looking at things and figuring out the meanings behind it. Connecting things together. I like looking at things in a logical way and it annoys me when people spread false information with no logic behind it, but it also annoys me when people are too logical and dismiss feelings as well, they can't think about nor talk about "deep" stuff cause they are so obsessed with the hard and plain facts. This is something that is obvious when I talk to some of my family members. But when it comes to making decisions I usually feel the most comfortable with listening to my heart rather than my head. Otherwise I wont have any motivation to do things since I didn't listen to what I actually wanted, just what is the "smartest"

Hey Dan, such a great video thank you!!
Could I make a video request please?
Are ENFP's best in full time permanent jobs or would they be more suited to freelance / contract type work that satisfy's the newness bug?
I'm an ENFP who has been in a full time role now for a year and a half and I've found that my performance has slowly decreased from the time I started the role till now. I'm now in the situation where I find my job boring, learning doesn't seem so fun, the people don't seem as exciting any more and as a result my performance is lower. At the beginning I was bloody fantastic, interested in everyone, so eager to help and on top form. I'm wondering whether if I created that newness context more often - by being a contractor / freelance, or just generally hoping jobs frequently - would I have more success, be more happy and do better in my job.
Would help me out so much if you could create a video on this - really struggling right now.
p.s. watched all your videos and love them

What you write about your job seems so interesting to me. That's because I have a hypothesis on the ENFPs: ENFPs' brains produce a higher amount of dopamine than average people. If you aren't familiar with dopamine I recommend you the book The Molecule of More. On that book the author relates dopamine to motivation. To briefly summarize some concepts of the book to what is relevant for your case, when our brain experiences something new dopamine is released, which gives you a thrill. The same happens when you take drugs. The thing is that as time goes by what once was new and attractive, and delivered a great deal of dopamine, becomes familiar, stopping the dopamine delivery. My point is that ENFPs produce much more dopamine than average, making us so excited about new things, but, at the same time, making us feel much harder the absence of dopamine. Summing up, ENFPs are dopamine seekers, which implies that we are always looking for something new. Our brain is a kind of addict to the new.
Now, regarding your question on permanent vs. freelance kind of job, I would say that the key isn't that opposition you make but the job itself. If you followed my previous explanation, I think that the jobs that suit ENFPs best are those that have an aspect of 'newness', of change.
Hope my answer was somewhat useful or interesting. Thank you for suggesting me the relation I did between ENFPs and dopamine :)

    1. What would you guys suggest, for an ENFP who is "stuck in a rut" and is currently living an unfulfilling life? (Privately, not work related).
I feel like I am reverting into someone who dulls his senses (TV mostly) in order to feel less guilty about doing something with various ideas?
    2. What do you do, as an ENFPs, when you feel a lack of self confidence? Are you doing any exercises on a regular basis in order to ensure that you are mentally and spiritually satisfied? Personally, I feel like I am a "good version" of an ENFP about 5 days a year, and I would like to develop strategies in order to feel more satisfied with my current situation in life.
