Hi Jon. Thank you for sharing the video of the guitar by Hans van Löben Sels from the Netherlands. In 1988 I participated in a master class by the recently departed José L Romanillos together with Hans. The course was for two weeks in the town Aalst near Brussels in Belgium. Hans turned out to be an extremely nice person and we got along very well. He was also a very fine luthier. This particular instrument of his hand is very similar in appearance to the guitars we made at that course and I still have one of the two I made, for comparison. The last time I spoke to Hans, he had stopped making guitars to return to his former profession as an architect.
It was also nice to see the guitar by Georg Bolin in one of your other videos, as I also studied guitar making for him in Stockholm - and later worked as his assistant. Both these instruments sound great.
Georg Bolin passed away in 1993 at the age of 81 and José Romanillos as recently as two and a half weeks ago, aged 90. I owe them both an incredible amount of gratitude. // Peter Bengtsson, master luthier.
Hi and thank you so much for your lovely story, it warms my heart. I regret selling this guitar, it now lives in Germany I believe :) Regarding the Bolin its a very fine guitar too, a very different sounding instrument though, a more old-world sound so to speak.
Great sound and nice balance!
Yes, it's a nice one for sure. Hans Löben was (is) an underestimated luthier.
Esas Guitarras ya no son para Tocar mas bien son solo para Admirar. Debe ser de museo. Se ve que ama las Guitarras.
Thank you.
Really nice sounding, however, before seeing the instrument, it sounded almost like steel strings. Nice playing too! You've really been on an exploration. Booking coming on your findings anytime soon?
Thank you Reginald. Yes this guitar has a very unique sound for sure. Nylon strings it is :) I'm not sure I understand your question though?
This guitar reminds me Japanese guitars by top makers. How much was this one?
I'm not sure what this guitar cost in 1991. But today it would cost at least around 4000-5000 Euro if new.
Book... not booking.
Aha, well not time anytime soon I guess. But who knows what the future will hold? Until then the best source for learning about Japanese classical guitars is the thread I started here: www.classicalguitardelcamp.com/viewtopic.php?t=111723
