  • Part 2 of my Headless vs. Headstock Bass Guitar Experiment. Which of the two construction types has advantages and disadvantages when it comes to sound and playability. Welcome to a slightly different Video on my Luthier Workshop Channel. I was alway curious about the Sound differences between Headless and Headstock Instruments not just on Basses also on Guitars. So I decided to cut off the Headstock of my Handmade Bass that I have build 10 years a go to answer this question for myself. In this Part 2 Video you can follow the process how I construct a build a massiv brass Headpiece from scratch and change the Bridge to fine Tune Mono Rail bridges to make this Bass tune able and playable again. As a Luthier it's not just about woodworking you have to work with quite different Materials and this is one part of the job that I really enjoy. My Favorite Metalls are copper and brass. At the end there will be a Soundcheck comparison. Please let me know if you hear any differences and what construction do you prefer. Feel free to check out the first Part of this interesting project were I cut of the Headstock..... So if you are interested in my Luthier Craftsmanship stay tuned and enjoy the Video. I love doing stuff like that - if you are interested in more of my Luthier life Projects, please feel free to check out my other extended Workshop Videos on this channel.
    Enjoy watching and sharing.
    Best Regards Nik

      Hello Hello From Canada!!! I love the way it looks now with your Headpiece for sure. I think there are a lot of basses and guitars that would look better with your conversion. I noticed that you opted to go with no nut at the top of the neck, but I was wondering if you get any buzzing from the top frets when you play the lower frets?? I'm new to your channel so I'm looking forward to checking out your previous episodes, and seeing what you do next. Keep up the awesome content, and I hope you stay safe, stay healthy and are as happy as you possibly can be in everything you do in the future.
      🤘😁👍

      @@murmur3966 Thank you so much for your kind words and your question. This construction is called "Zero Fret" it's a traditional way of building a neck here in Germany. The big benefit is that you have the optimum hight and you don't run the risk making a Nut slot to low:-) Enjoy the other Video and best Regards to Canada.You are welcome. Cheers Nik

    Fantastic sounding Bass. with either head stock. When you broke that drill I thought, so I am not the only one with that kind of luck. Beautiful work.

    A tip for these tuning machines is to put thrust bearings between the main body of the bridge piece and the tuning "knob". It makes turning them 100x smoother!

    I can only imagine the profanities when that drill bit snapped! You must have thought "so it'll be a three string bass." 😄

    Wow, what a difference actually! Sitting at home in front of my (good) monitors and it's really an obvious change in sound! Great work! I really enjoy your videos! Und viele Grüße von gar nicht mal so weit weg (Aachen). ;)
    Edit: by the way... I've always thought, that you're quite a good guitar player! What's your education on that? Did you have proper lessons (including theory) or are you completely self-taught (maybe even with theory knowledge)? Being a guitar player myself for 25 years, I sense a good expertise! :)

      Hey Markus, vielen herzlichen Dank für deinen Kommentar. Freut mich sehr, dass es Dir gefällt. Schreib mir gerne welche Unterschiede du gehört hast das interessiert mich sehr… Ich habe mir sowohl Gitarren als auch Bass selber beigebracht. Auf der Basis einer klassischen Klavier Ausbildung. Freut mich sehr das dir mein Spiel gefällt. Ich habe eigentlich immer in vielen Bands gespielt und das hat mir auch immer sehr viel Spaß gemacht. LG Nik

    VERY interesting project! Question, where do you get your logo stickers, and what exactly are they called? I have been looking for that type of "decal" but can't find them.

    tolle Arbeit! könnte man evtll die zwei schwarzen langen Spaxschrauben zur befestigung des brass heads auch durch brass inserts ersetzen, vllcht wäre das noch stabiler?

    What is the advantage of a headless bass ?

      @petrekguitars  3 місяці тому

      Thanks for your question. It's shorter, it's lighter, better tuning stability and no big sound deficits. Best Regards Nik

    Работа хорошая, но как басист хочу сказать что это очень не удобно!!! А если во время репетиции или концерта струна лопнет? Это мне с собой надо пассатижи носить и набор ключей шестигранных.

      Thanks a lot for your Feedback. Yes if you have installed the same Fine Tuning System that I have. But a very great advantage that I have considered is the tuning stability of this Instrument. It's amazing... Best Regards Nik
