Personally, I wouldn't trust those welds on the rod. There ain't much weld penetration happening and it is crucial to the strength of a welded connection. Doing it like that on an easily accessible part - I don't mind that; having it in a neck of my guitar, under constant tension - not so much. I'd rather do it with a tig torch or figure a way to do it without welding the rod itself, but that's just me. Still, a very cool and unique guitar.
And a whole active system too. These guys can literally made a guitar from the ground up. Only thing they didn't make were the bridge and tuners. DAMN!
I know a luthier that makes truss rods himself always. And when I asked him why he laughed saying that it's same thing as factory made and cost fair just as much as factory made truss rods should cost - something about nothing. He said that he's never seen that his hand made truss rods ever broke.
I don’t normally say stuff like this nor do I go in for instruments that look too fancy. But this made me tear up a bit. I think it’s the nicest design in a bass guitar I’ve ever seen-a true bucket list instrument.
That CNC router is badass. Guitar came out perfect.. got serious thump in the low end. I imagine that body style is really good for overall neck strength, alignment, and acoustic resonance.
Only one word can describe it. FANTASTIC!!! The tone and sounds were perfect and so pleasing to the ear. That is one of the best sounding guitars I have heard in a long time.
John Conklin I suppose electric guitars are a bit easier to build than acoustic ones, but given how specialised a craft luthiers practice, it’s definitely no joke. After all, the maker still needs to do all the same things except for the sound box.
A fantastic edition to the collection! Now you really can't go back, you must finish them all! I love everything about this guitar, it perfectly and essentially SCREAMS Winter. It's cold and calm, yet beautiful and mysterious at the same time. Love it, 5 out of 5 for me, I'd give you 6 or 7 if I could!
@@lignumchannel I'm actually in Milan and I was in Bergamo a week ago, I thought you were Italian from the nitro sign! Keep going with the projects they are amazing! :D
Wow! what a cool looking bass! Also, I love the idea of putting the controls on the side of the guitar rather than the top- I'll have to steal that idea for my own build! :)
Now that's why Fanuc robotic arms were made! Outstanding video. I would love to see the inner back and front of an acoustic guitar and violin made with the robot. Probably done better in 1/5 of the time. Well done.
That is such a beautiful piece of art. Thank you for sharing that whole build, (along with the details in the description box), with us. You guys make the most beautiful pieces.
Man, ive been a bassist for circa 8 years now. Ive seen and played alot of cool basses (even a balalaika bass ffs) but this takes the cake dude. Thats the most beautiful bass ive ever seen.
Dear Sir, Yet another master piece that would grace any guitar's enthusiast's collection. My brother has been collecting guitars for the last 40 + years & my 11 year old plays in his foot steps. I would love to be in a position to commission you to make one for my boy for his birthday present but alas my circumstances do not permit to do so. What a crying shame. It's absolutely delightful. Very well done once again. Kind regards.
Thank you once again Dilip for a kind comment! I would really like to start making them not only as a youtube projects, I really enjoy the process.. I hope one day I will..
Awesome instrument! I really like the use of the CNC here. A suggestion: you could also use the CNC (maybe a smaller one) to carve out the copper of the PCB. It's much easier, much faster, much safer, and much more environment friendly than ferric chloride. Most people use it because they don't have a carving CNC on hand.
Where are the pickups? I assume some sort of piezo somewhere, but I can't find the part of the video where they're installed. Amazing job, though. Looks beautiful.
They're built into the bridge! If you look at 13:00 where the bridge is installed, you can see the wires from the piezo pickups being run through the body. Each bridge saddle has a separate pickup in it, and each string runs over a tiny piece of metal in the saddle that transfers the string's vibrations.
16:35 - Could it be that if I look in the woodpile here in the backyard of the house will I also find one of these? It's just a way of saying that I thought it was wonderful..
Yes, we moved them last summer.. It's much safer now when they have a space of their own and no one walks around them. I'm Glad you like the guitar, thank you very much!
You didn't really just make your own circuit board ...
"How f*ckn extra do you want your guitar Sir ?"
"Yes."
Absolutely incredible.
Omg!
that's a bass, not guitar

That’s the most beautiful headstock I’ve seen in a looooong time.
Never did I think I'd see PCB transfer and etching on your channel!
Amazing work (as always), and well worth the 150 hours!
This whole thing was amazing, but after seeing years of woodwork on your channel, the thing that blew my mind was making the circuit board. So cool.
I don’t normally say stuff like this nor do I go in for instruments that look too fancy. But this made me tear up a bit. I think it’s the nicest design in a bass guitar I’ve ever seen-a true bucket list instrument.
A fretless version of it would be totally awesome.
If not better than awesome ;)
Dude. I hadnt even thought of that. Its be better.
Yeah it'd be kinda like a Michael Manring Hyperbass..
it would be like those infinite fretboard bass like Jens Ritter, Algan, and Stradi
Beautiful bass. Love the blending of modern and classical aesthetics. Not many could pull that off and not look gimmicky. Excellent work.
I'm glad you like it Jeff! :D
That CNC router is badass. Guitar came out perfect.. got serious thump in the low end. I imagine that body style is really good for overall neck strength, alignment, and acoustic resonance.
What a bunch of tools you own and master... unbelievable. You can make anything.
I think i'm on number three or four of watching this. Each time I am still amazed. Never gets tiring. Only wish I had one for myself.
😁thank you so much Jeffrey! I'm glad you like it so much!
the mix of machines and hand tooling is very cool
So much to love about this design! Seeing you make your own circuit board blew me away too
Only one word can describe it. FANTASTIC!!! The tone and sounds were perfect and so pleasing to the ear. That is one of the best sounding guitars I have heard in a long time.
Thank you Steve! I will make a sound demo video sometime in the future with better sound recording equipment, camera mic is just not good enough..
Make it a good one
I can't even express how excited I am to see the idea of inset pots! Fantastic build!
Glad you like it Antonio!
A stunning instrument! Elegantly executed! Thank you for sharing!
Love the placement of the tone and volume control. Beautiful guitar!
Theres a luthier in Columbus Ohio named FRENZ that has been doing that on basses since the mid 90's. It's really friggin cool.
Most actual guitar manufacturers don’t make their own truss rods. What a mad lad
Build your own truss-rod?? Etch and build your own circuit board?? Edge-mounted controls for that simple yet elegant look?? OUTSTANDING!!!
absolutely,.. historic build !, super talented, when i saw you etch your own board, i knew we had a live one here !
Absolutely gorgeous instrument!
Two words:
Simply amazing!
Thank you Chris :D
Looking so good...can't wait for Spring and Summer!
Me too.. Thx:)
I love the mix of techniques and styles in this project. Definitely masterful work and amazingly thought out design process.
Thank you very much Karl! :)
The truss rod specifically is the most wild thing I've seen in the whole UA-cam guitar making world. This is a beautiful video and product man.
This bass guitar is just beautiful and divine.
Beautiful, I enjoyed watching you build your bass.
Thank you very much!

You are a Artisan, the machines cannot perform without input and the chisel cannot guide itself. 👍😎🎩❤️
Thank you:)
Да, с таким оборудованием можно делать шедевры, что и было сделано. Молодцы!

Incredibly beautiful visual design. I would love to hear a longer clip of it being played by a pro bassist
I really like the cello-esque design!
Most excellent indeed my friend! Very tasteful shape with some really stylish touches. Loved watching that, as always. Thanks for sharing! :D
Thank you for watching Matt! I'm glad you like the design!
Really wonderful. You might consider using machine screws (and threaded inserts) to hold the back plate on. I loved that touch on my old Alembic.
Could watch that for hours ! Great !
cool idea to put knobs in the side of body, great work
Ok. In English.
I've played as a bass guitarist in several Rock bands.
