I love how all your paintings start with loose shapes, and your landscape 'accidental' speed paints. They really show how you can always make something beautiful, and it really helped me not feel discouraged since I first started working with water colors. Thank you!
So encouraging to know that you, more than once, felt like you had lost the painting. Then to see that you overcame that, resulting in a beautiful piece of art. You are such an inspiration to so many! Thank you.
Hey Minders. PLEASE NOTE! In response to some criticism and false theories that all my good content is leaving UA-cam to go to paid venues, this is absolutely NOT happening! I will still post the same type of content here as I've always done (unless I end up dead or in a coma somewhere). That includes instructive content and tutorials, tips, techniques and reviews. Nothing is changing here on my channel.
I think you to be a kind person, for sharing your knowledge. Don't get bugged by negative responses. Probebly just envious people. LOL. I love what you are doing.
They also need to be more truthful and not attempt to start a rumor without so much as attempting to ask me what I intend to do. No need for disappointment since nothing is changing here. The content in other venues is extra and made especially for those audiences. It never would have appeared on UA-cam because I never could have made it without their support!
Wow....awesome job Steve. I love this. You do such beautiful work. Thank you for helping the little people in their endeavor to not only have fun with watercolor but in understanding this medium.
Okay. Now I need to be a patron. I just love how you viniese your painting and even in this time lapse I can see where you about lost it. Love love that you like trees. They are my favorite and yours are just wonderful. Thank you this great channel.
Hi , I was wondering if you can tell me which watercolor would be best M Graham or Daniel smith professional.. i am wanting to buy and am going back and forth. Need help. I know you like M graham but did you use Daniel smith? They seem a little less in cost. I am looking at starter sets is this the way to go in you opinion??
I've always enjoyed watching your videos but during this time they are giving me extra joy having just recently lost my father. thank you for giving me so much joy and peace, especially now.
I am a retiring caricature artist and starting to watercolor. I searched for advise and boy did I come to the right place. You are super and I want to say 'God bless you'' I do want to donate and will once I get started with my painting. I already entered an acrylic in Watercolor mag. So maybe I am on my way. I am making lots of notes from your posts and will follow you as much as I can. Again thank you.
This is stunning... and I'm just amazed watching all the brush strokes go in. I painted a bit in high school & college using acrylic and oil and just recently started painting again but would like to learn watercolors. If you haven't already done so, I'd be interested in a video that details different brush techniques.
That was so nice and relaxing with the nice soft music playing, notice I said soft some people ruin everything by playing music too loud then it is no longer peaceful and relaxing . Better no music at all but this was nice. I loved the painting. thank you .
This was an awesome video! It really shows using "all" edges of the brush which is important in painting trees or foliage. It also shows me that you really have to have a plan before applying a wash to allow for example the light coming through the forest. Thank you for sharing!!
Looking to get back into watercolor painting after a very, very long time. Perusing UA-cam for some great inspiration and techniques I either never learned or forgot. Ran across this video... and I have to say: Wonderful. Truly inspiring, for sure... thank you!
Oh my God, very beautiful, I love to watch you painting. The colors are just perfect, and that negatively painting those trees in the back. Amazing!! Thanks for sharing.
Nice one Steve. I think I will get out my Sterling Edwards brushes from the bottom of my brush draw and try them again. Congrats on joining Skillshare. I really enjoy teaching there. It's very interactive. It's exciting to see the results that members post and to be able to comment and help them improve on their watercolor journey.
Thanks Jean. I've been going through Sterling's workshops on Artistsnetwork.tv and watching how he uses them. Very Cool! Its a good fit for my painting style. You were the primary motivating factor in my giving Skillshare a try. I love it so far. I like the social interaction. I may use Teachable at some point but its more marketing work than I have time to put into workshops right now. The popular smaller size of classes and organic growth that can happen at Skillshare really appeals to me. Thanks again for the recommendation.
What a pleasure to watch! I am learning, and enjoying water color painting. This was the first of your work I have seen. Absolutely loved it. If I can develop a tiny fraction of your talent , I will be happy. Thank you .
Thank you for sharing your talent with us! Not only is this painting gorgeous, it's so cool how you share thinking that you had "lost" the painting a couple of times in the process, and yet managed to rescue it (brilliantly!) in the end. I'll keep that in mind next time I feel like tearing up my work :-) I remember watching a Charles Reid video where he painted (in mostly real time) a tablescape of flowers, fruit etc. He appeared to struggle through it a few times, but of course the end result was beautiful. And at the end he said something like, "Well, if that thought you anything, it's that even for a professional painter like me, it's never easy and I'm always full of doubt almost until the very end." Good to keep in mind!
Bee-you-tee-full! HA! I've had a set of those Sterling Edwards brushes for years and never used them.....I'll have to pull them out and give 'em a try. Thank you Mr Mind.
I can't say how many times I was painting and often was tempted to give up ... at the end often times I was happy I didn't do it because some of them turned out to be some of the best of my paintings :) ... I'm sure glad you didn't either because your painting is beautiful!
Wish I could see you paint this amazing scene in real speed. I think you went over with a dry brush in some areas, especially on the tree areas. Am I correct? I wish I was right there watching you paint. It will take me a long time to understand the mind of water color. Thanks a bunch for sharing your talent.
Steve...Really love how you painted in "negative" space to achieve the middle-ground tree trunks...At first I was like..."Those are some pretty Mighty Tree Trunks!" Then I went...."Ohh,....duhhh! (insert face palm here) Overall Great, Great, piece
wow! 2016!.........i always enjoy your tutorials and even repeat them many times.......don't sweat the negative people.....they r who they r.......like a fart in a wind storm......will pass quickly.......thanks again for the vid.
Cecelia here. I am responding to those who think that lunch should be free. It has been my experience there seldom are occasions when that is the case. It is customary, at least I hope it is that when one receives a find a gift freely given, one should be appreciative. A thank you is in order and is the least one should give in return. Thank you. From your video, I have learned and therefore I am in your debt.
J'admire vos paysages peints tout en sensibilité progressivement mais moi j'ai besoin de voyager pour faire d'abord des photos qui m'inspirent pour peindre. Avez vous beaucoup voyagé, déjà ? Bravo et merci pour le démo. I.P.
Hi Steve........Just joined Skillshare and can't find you. Is this the first piece you're posting or are there other pieces? Is there a way to locate you specifically? Their search button for the mind of watercolor gave me zilch.
Yes, this is my first. Their search bar is sort of useless. It only searches for classes. As I mentioned in the video the workshop is not quite posted yet. Hopefully late tomorrow or Thursday. Here is the link to my teaching page skillshare.com/mindofwatercolor/teaching Thanks for the interest!
Maybe it's just me, but when it says "supplies listed below," I can not find the "below". These are wonderful and I learn a lot from your videos! Thank you!
The video description. The description block is almost always beneath the video somewhere. I suppose some tablet apps may differ and put it out to the side. Just look for the video description block.
I hadn't heard of skillshare before but I went to sign up to watch the extended video. I love your videos on youtube but I completely understand that it must take a lot of time to make content and you gotta eat. I hope you don't mind me adding this but skillshare have a signup offer at the moment- I got 3 months premium membership for just 99 cents.
Hi! I was just wondering if you went to Art School ; if I may ask that question! I love your work but no matter how hard I try I just cannot get it right and I don't know wether it is mainly a question of quality of paper, brushes and paint or if material is only a small part of the 'problem"........
Thank you.
Very kind and encouraging, thanks!

"unless I end up dead or in a coma somewhere" God forbid!
Awesome to watch. I love it! I like the little blue brush you are smudging with. Whats it called?
I think this is one of my favs of your paintings....so much depth and light streaming through trees.....beautiful!
I can’t say enough, of how much pleasure I get from watching you paint! Thank you for sharing your talents!
Wow....awesome job Steve. I love this. You do such beautiful work. Thank you for helping the little people in their endeavor to not only have fun with watercolor but in understanding this medium.

I would add more thumbs up if I could, beautiful, the lifting out the branches at the end brought tears to my eyes.
Oh and yes Patricia, it did bring tears to my eyes too....but only because I am so faaaar away to obtain such a result in my painting!!
Love your work and your teaching... what a great gift you are to all of us who watch!
Beautiful.....Thank you so much for sharing not only your talent, but sharing your methods. Love the blending.
Love how you paint and such a peaceful painting, with those soft colors that just capture such a beautiful landscape. Thanks for the video
My pleasure!

Beautiful artwork! I love watercolors too!

i guess it is quite off topic but does anyone know of a good website to watch newly released series online ?
@Imran Chandler Flixportal :)
@Arjun Tyler thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it!!
@Imran Chandler Glad I could help :)
The good Lord blessed you with so much talent. Did you work from a reference photo or bring this to life from your imagination?
Mostly imagination. I had some spot tree reference nearby but didn't really paint strait from it.

I love your work but no matter how hard I try I just cannot get it right and I don't know wether it is mainly a question of quality of paper, brushes and paint or if material is only a small part of the 'problem"........
Yes, I did, but honestly most of what I've learned and use today has been self taught. Art school was so very long ago.
How about watercoloring ocotillo and purple cactus!? Please.
