Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge in your videos. One problem I wish you could show is about problems with sensors. My brother SE625 supposedly has an upper thread sensor that keeps tripping after about 15 stitches and says my upper thread needs to be re-threaded. (Says the same thing if I run it without thread.) Stitches are fine and I've re-threaded about 100 times, changed bobbins & bobbin thread, -even changed the bobbin case. Still getting the error. We're going to try to get into the spring (at #3 threading guide) to see if we can loosen it up because it does feel a little sticky, but is there a sensor there? Can we clean it? I'm hoping just loosening the spring will do the trick. A service guy looked at it and said it's got lint on the sensor and will cost $200 just to clean it. I do keep my machine clean, have had it just a year and haven't sewn that much, but I guess it's possible! Thanks again.

Hello MH, There should not be any play in the take-up lever at all. If it is hitting something and moves then it is either broke or out of adjustment and loose. Follow the movement when you wiggle it and see where the movement stops, that is where the problem is.

This is a good explanation of parts. But, your fingers are sometimes in the way and I can’t see where you are putting the oil. My Manual says we (buyers) should not oil our machines. ???
The main places the machine needs oil is on the needle bar, and all 4 bushings. Machines need to be lubricated, there are many fast moving metal on metal parts that need oil. I make these videos to help people who are unable to take their machines in for what ever reason, or who can not find a competent repair shop in their area, take care of their own machines. You can take your machine in to a service center to have it serviced and lubricated, you can do it yourself or you can run the machine until it either locks up or burns up. Sewing machine manufacturers make machines cheap, hard to get into and recommend you do not lubricate the machine so they can make more money by either repairing your machine or selling you a new machine. It is not limited to sewing machine manufactures, unfortunately we live in a throw away world where we are encouraged to buy new rather than repairing the old. I have a talent and skill and try to help as many people as possible with it.
@@sewingmachinetipsandtricks9079 I agree with everything you said. We do live in a disposal society. I will try and oil my machine. But, what are bushings??? Hello Joy, It does depend on the problem with the machine but for the most part yes. If the presser foot will not stay up then the problem is probably inside the machine. You said you were just setting it up, if it is a new machine it might be better to return it and get another machine.
@@TheJoyBinkley I have not seen it in these machines, but I have in others. It is usually caused by wear, obviously that is not the problem here, I would guess the oil on the assembly inside has has dried up and keeping the spring that holds pressure on both the presser foot and the lever from properly operating. Without pressure being applied it would fall. I would suggest opening it, cleaning and lubricating the mechanism very thoroughly.

Oooo please help my feed dogs went down and would not raise to the bed level, what happened and can I fix it ?
Your feed dog drop switch is probably in the down position.
It’s on the back of the machine near the needle plate push it to the up position.
@@sewingmachinetipsandtricks9079 no it’s not unfortunately , as I turn the knob on the side of the machine you can see the dog feed move but nowhere near the base plate
@@sewingmachinetipsandtricks9079ah , sucess, it was the base plate not fitted correctly, I’m lucky I’ve been using my new machine for a year like this, there was a bit of an odd sound but as it was new I didn’t think anything of it.😅 many thanks I’ve just completed my first services thanks to your expert step by step instructions , just putting it all back together now
My bobbin tension is way loose. How can I fix this?
That depends on reason that it is loose, have you tested it to ensure it’s loose or is that a guess based on how it is sewing?
I have tested it. When holding upper thread and bobbin thread and lightly tugging on both at the same time bobbin thread extremely loose. Also when sewing in reverse the stitches loop on top and bottom.
My machine is a Brother XR9550. Not crazy about this machine but the price was good.
hELP PLEASE My Brother SE625 will not reverse when I hit the reverse button.
You need to oil a bushing that is located under your sewing machine..
Um, never pull on wires to remove a connector! Usually a small screwdriver can be used to separate the plug from socket.

I agree with everything you said. We do live in a disposal society. I will try and oil my machine. But, what are bushings??? I’ll look at my manual but I don’t remember seeing that word! Thanks for your work. It is impressive. I too love taking machines apart. But I think I’ll take pictures after every step…

Bushings are what hold the upper and lower shafts in place, similar to a bearing.
Here is a video on a locked up machine, an upper and lower bushing is locked up.
Yes the machine is completely different from your brother but they both have bushings in the same general area, this should help you better understand.

I can't afford to have my machine serviced. It would be more economical to buy a whole new machine. Thank you so much for making this video. I figured that if I had the intelligence to construct a garment then I could do this with guidance and I did. Thank you for taking the time to make and post this video!!!
My machine brother cs8800PRw not working
I put mine back together and now the material wont move. The needle just moves up and down and material does nothing.
did u put the feed dogs down?
No metal frame. ((
Too much plastic & too little metal.

Hey. Thanks for the video. Is opening the machine up like this the only way to fix a situation where my presser foot lever will not stay up? I'm just setting up the machine. Here's what it looks like: ua-cam.com/video/su9lCuDcfeE/v-deo.html
Hello Joy,
It does depend on the problem with the machine but for the most part yes.
If the presser foot will not stay up then the problem is probably inside the machine.
You said you were just setting it up, if it is a new machine it might be better to return it and get another machine.
@@sewingmachinetipsandtricks9079 We bought it a couple years ago, this is just the first time I'm trying to use it.
Have you seen this issue before?
@@TheJoyBinkley
I have not seen it in these machines, but I have in others.
@@sewingmachinetipsandtricks9079 thanks :)
I have a brother CE5500PRW and it is sewing loosely on the bottom tedious of the fabric. What can I do to repair the issue?
