My Boston terrier puppy is already almost 19lbs at 5 months lol He is all muscle, just found out the father is closer to 30lbs so I guess he gonna be a big one!
My Boston is 6.5 months old and almost 25 pounds (11.3kg). Lean, muscular, not fat and has the proper pedigree. Have been measuring his feed by the gram. He was also big as a puppy, got him at 11 weeks old and at almost 10 pounds. The vet checked his teeth before she believed he was only 11 weeks old. Not sure where he will stop, but I doubt it will be below 35 pounds. One big boy.
Our little savage is 30 lbs. He is heavily muscled from long trail hikes. I think he was around two when he seemed to stop growing and maintain. great video as always!!
I have a 22 pound Bo shih. I call him a fuzzy/long hair Boston. Your channel has and us helpful. Things they like, don’t like, feeding and personality. Thank you for all your information. He’s part shih szu, so he has the underbite and kibble is hard for him to chew. I’m using Purina Beyond wet food. I feel the cleanest ingredients for him.
Our first BT, from a backyard breeder, was a physical specimen at nearly 30 lbs, very muscular, and extremely athletic. Our second and third are muscular at 15 lbs(taller) and 12 lbs (shorter) respectively, and have quite the pedigree. All three are/were close to their parents size when they fully matured. To: TheWeezy1981. They are more sprinters than distance runners. If it is just slightly warm, they have difficulty cooling down due to their short snout; unfortunately, there are many cases where BTs died from heat exhaustion. If you want a long distance running buddy, there are more suited breeds, just not nearly as cute.
Chandler was the largest of three females in the litter. We got her when she was a year old and later met her sisters who had already been adopted. Somehow she stands about a head taller than the other two. She's not overweight but definitely a big-boned gal. She has an older male french bulldog as a neighborhood buddy who is sort of low on the ground - Chandler will stand over him when he's lying down and he gives her a look that seems to say, "Be kind, oh Amazon!"
I have seen a number of abnormally large Boston Terriers that got up to 40-50 pounds and they were also quite lean too and not overweight. Mine currently though is an average size boy who is only 23 pounds but quite muscular. My mothers Boston on the other hand is 41 pounds and also lean.
Mine has been around the same size since she was 8 months old. Some other boston people I've spoken to say she might fill out more or get a little taller but at 14 months old and 13 lbs I think she's done growing
My BT is not really stuborn. She just seems stubborn because she is slow to process unpleasant information. If I say all gone after she has had a treat she understands but looks kinda sad before she leaves. If I tell her down she has a "How could you say that to me look" before she responds,
Mine got fatter after getting fixed. Except my make has not yet he will be 2 on nov 30th. He got fixed back in February. It did stop his marking thankfully. My female tends to gain easy, bc shes lazy. I have to cut her food intake back and it helps a lot. Mine do not get many treats. 1 or 2 a day most of the time. Some days I’m a bit generous if they mind better. Mine know my routine though, the get in their crate without being told if they know I’m getting ready to leave. They are soooo smart.
I just bought a lil boston but dad is 35lbs of solid muscle mom is 25, im hoping he will take after mom, I've never seen a boston thats 35 lbs but the more I look I've found a few, and not fat ther muscular, we will see what the outcome is I guess, get him in 31 more days I cant wait
A sweater! Yes, it’s a real thing. Bella does ok in the house but when it is really cold outside she wants her sweater on. I would just check out what there is an Amazon. There are a lot of good options.
All of our BTs have found the house to be too cool at times and will often recharge by sunbathing. However, when it snows, they will go outside and play like crazy, then come back inside and hangout by the fireplace. Sweaters, shirts, and jackets do not seem to bother them and we have quite the collection. We have found that if we take a rare lazy day and stay in bed or on the couch, we have BT buddies that will stay there all day with us. Good luck with your pup.
As I recall with Ball it took that long. She is almost 11 and really doesn't chew on things unless she finds some food wrapper or jars of peanut butter lol Your Boston should grow out of it.
I have a 3 week old Boston male he was the only one in the litter. I have a question. This being my dames first litter and only having one puppy will mom be ok if and when the baby goes to a new home.
My Boston is just under 15 weeks and is already 15 lbs...he doesn't seem over weight but based on the 10 to 25 lbs range, he seems big at this age. How much will bostons generally grow after they reach 4 months old?
Wow he is a big Boston. Generally speaking, very general, they might be around 8 pounds at four months. Check out this article on my Boston Terrier Society website. In it you’ll find links to calculators as well as weight charts that might be helpful. There are a lot of factors that go into the size of your Boston and I’ve found some of the online assumptions and calculators can be off. www.bostonterriersociety.com/boston-terrier-puppy-development/
In general a purebred Boston should not need a tail docking. However, it is possible from time to time to have a purebred that has a tail. In my opinion, there is no need for tail docking. It’s outlawed in a lot of countries. My assumption is some breeders dock tails because they’re worried people may not assume they are purebred.
I will have my third Boston Terrier next month. My previous two all had cataracts. Should I put sunglasses on my Boston Terrier to prevent him having eyes related health issue. I found information from akc for different types and styles products. Can you recommend brand/style best fit for Boston Terrier? Thanks!
That is interesting I didn’t even know that sunglasses for dogs were a real thing. I’ll need to check it out. So unfortunately I don’t have any recommendations. I would be interested in learning what you eventually learn. Please share when you do decide on a brand or pair.
@@BostonTerrierSociety Thank you for replying. I will keep you posted if I eventually get my BT a pair. He is only 4 weeks old so I will wait until he is older. We live in California so a pair of sunglasses may protect my BT.

Bella gets along great with my in laws dogs but not so much with other dogs in the neighborhood when she is on the leash...Bella will do great at dog parks. My answer is mixed because all dogs are different and it really depends on the socialization you provide. So I would say as long as you socialize your boston with other dogs at a young age you’ll be fine
When they are less than a year old. It's like Beavis drinking cappuccino. They are insane! Play! Play! Play!!! They are extremely loyal, playful, and good hearted. They love kids, people, tennis balls, car rides, snuggling, laying in the sun, running through piles of leaves, and playing tug of war. Get them a big rubber ball from the toy section of Walmart. Just toss it in the backyard and enjoy the show!
I really want a Boston, but I would rather not get a puppy, rather a 2-3 year old. Are there Boston rescues around Massachusetts? I am willing to travel a bit. What are the negatives about getting an older dog v. Puppy?
I have not personally had not had experience with rescuing an adult Boston but from what I have gathered from talking to some rescues is you do need to be a little more patient as you integrate a new dog into your home. They need to learn to trust you and basically your house rules. If anyone has experience with bring an adult Boston home to live with them please chime in.
Hey David. I've never asked a breeder this question but that would be my guess. However, if you want a smaller Boston you really need to see the size of the parents.
I’m starting to think I was scammed!! My Boston is only 8 months and 34lbs!!! My vet said he appears to be full blooded and doesn’t look over weight!! I’m so confused!! (HELP!!!)
Great advice, I wish I saw this about meeting the parents or at least ask about them. Ours is 34 lbs and all muscle. You can see his last 3 ribs and all the muscles in his legs. We were expecting a 15-18 pound dog we could easily carry around. He just kept growing, we had to buy a larger crate, larger bowls, larger beds and bedding, larger toys, larger lead, etc. So, unexpected additional expenses. We love him, but wished he was smaller. Question: Our Boston is always hungry. Always hungry! We feed him a cup of food in the morning and late afternoon. He starts asking for his food mid afternoon. Anytime you go near his bowl, he gets excited and thinks it's eat time again. He eats so fast, he is shaking and snorts so much. I am afraid to feed him more, so he stays trim. Is this normal behavior for Bostons?
Wow that smiley face was so informative. Hey Tom, don't worry its normal for the bostons to snort while they eat. Their short muzzles cause them to take in air while eating (this is also why they tend to have gas). I'm on my 3rd boston now and he is ~37 lbs! He's muscular and solid as a rock. I meter how much i feed him based on the shape of him. I try to keep him with a nice hour glass shape when looking down on him. Not too skinny to the point where several ribs are showing but i want to see some indentation in his waist area. I feed him twice a day (usually about a cup each time). If he starts to lose his hour glass shape I give him a little less for each meal and the weight comes right off in a few days.
@@MrPropaul thank you! We did increase him to a heaping cup morning and late afternoon. He is less irritating and a bit thicker, but as you said...has that hour glass shape. Thanks for the info, good to have some confirmation from others.
I'm not sure where you could find a Boston of that size. And I've never thought about looking in that way. Here is a video where I point you to three different places to start your search. I hope this helps...ua-cam.com/video/hWw_XgRuMW4/v-deo.html
Me and my wife want a Boston Terrier pup, I want a slim one with longer legs so it’s more active and come on runs, are Males usually taller or is it all to do with the parents?
I don’t have first hand experience with this but from what I have read Boston makes are usually taller, but it does depend on the parents how tall it will become. As for running. I did take Bella on a couple of runs no more than three miles. These are not running dogs. Bella I think did better because she has a bit of a longer nose than most other Boston’s I have seen. If you are planning on doing sprint workouts at the track I think a Boston is perfect. How far do you plan on running with your boston?
Not necessarily that they come in three sizes but according to the standard by Boston Terrier Club of America there are three classes of sizes. At least that is my take.
I got my Boston at 3mo so he is a hand full I've owned 5 boston in my life my grandfather raised them I have problems with him going down stairs hes little over 7 months old he has a fear of heights I'm 75yrs old and he weighs 25lb how can I get over fears of stairs he won't jump off the bed have to pick him up to get him off the bed
Joyce that is a really good question. I’m not entirely sure. I’ll need to look it to it. One way to stop him from jumping off the bed would be to get some doggy stages for the bed. Simply look on amazon for them.
@@BostonTerrierSociety he won't jump off the bed hes scared of heights he won't go dow down the stairs but he will go up the stairs hes scared to going down
Joyce Damato question...do you have stair treads (or carpeting) on your stairs? I had the same issue with my other dog. She would slip on the hardwood...
Currently it is still Blue Buffalo Salmon but will be changing her food. Check out this article where other Boston owners share what they feed there dog...www.bostonterriersociety.com/food-needs-of-a-boston-terrier/#boston-owners
Thank you so much for making helpful videos about Boston Terriers. Have you done one about health problems yet? I just got on a waitlist (with a reputable breeder) and am reading about some of the common vet issues. How concerned should I be about: -Breathing/airway. Should a lot of Bostons get nostril or soft palette surgery like this vet says? (ua-cam.com/video/dURrj5qTPs8/v-deo.html) -Eye health, cherry eye, etc. -Neuter/spay: how do you know when it's the right age to get it done? I've heard anywhere from 3-15 months as the ideal age -Anal gland issues -Dealing with rashes/skincare -Common allergies and how to spot them And with all of the above, how many of these can be avoided by adopting from a good breeder instead of a pet store or puppy mill? If you've already addressed this elsewhere, feel free to ignore as I'm still going through all your old videos. All the best!
Kaleim, this is great! I have not done one on health issues yet, but I did do a general article that could be helpful.www.bostonterriersociety.com/boston-terrier-common-health-problems/ Nostril Surgery - we did not do that. I would ask your personal vet this question. Yes, Boston's can have cataract issues in old age. I will try to cover this soon. Spay or Neuter: Once again contact your vet but here is an article I wrote that could point you in the right direction. www.bostonterriersociety.com/boston-terrier-spay-or-neuter/ Anal glands - I have not yet had an issue with Bella. Skin Care - I have talked to a number of owners who have said their Boston has dry skin. Bella does as well. As long as you limit baths, feed them a diet rich in omega 3 your should be in good shape. Common allergies - I might not be able to answer your full question, but Bella has an allergy to grain. Not all Boston's have this allergy. The common way to spot allergies is your dogs skin. Bella started losing hair and got rashes. This is how we discovered her allergies...and the allergies didn't develop until we had her for a year. I hope this helps.
Boston Terrier Society Thank you so much - this helps a lot. Thanks for sharing about your experiences with Bella. There’s tons of general info out there, but Boston specific health info is a lot harder to find, so thank you again. Love your videos and I forward to seeing more.
I’m not sure the genetics 🧬 part but they are born without tails. It is possible to be born with a tail but most are born without. www.bostonterriersociety.com/boston-terrier-tail/

Boston Terrier Society thank you!
You’re welcome
Will the runt of a littler be a smaller Boston?
Hey David. I've never asked a breeder this question but that would be my guess. However, if you want a smaller Boston you really need to see the size of the parents.
@@BostonTerrierSociety Thanks for your advice. 🐶
😊
My Gracie is a beautiful Boston terrier she is seven and weighs about sixteen pounds we did spay her when she was a puppy, does she weigh to much.
Mine is 8 lbd @8 weeks
Where can I get a Boston adult dog at 10 pounds ?
I'm not sure where you could find a Boston of that size. And I've never thought about looking in that way. Here is a video where I point you to three different places to start your search. I hope this helps...ua-cam.com/video/hWw_XgRuMW4/v-deo.html
My Boston is 1 year old and is maintaining an 14 lbs lol why is she so smol 😭😭
Is it true Boston terriers come in 3 sizes
@@BostonTerrierSociety he won't jump off the bed hes scared of heights he won't go dow down the stairs but he will go up the stairs hes scared to going down
Interesting. I would check out some of Cesar Milan’s videos on Phobias to see what he says on a topic like that.

question...do you have stair treads (or carpeting) on your stairs? I had the same issue with my other dog. She would slip on the hardwood...
What’s do you feed Bella ?
Currently it is still Blue Buffalo Salmon but will be changing her food. Check out this article where other Boston owners share what they feed there dog...www.bostonterriersociety.com/food-needs-of-a-boston-terrier/#boston-owners
@@BostonTerrierSociety thank you
My Brady’s parents are 25 #, which is what I was expecting him to be! Nope! He’s 35#. All muscle
😊
When should you neuter a Boston?
i hope this article helps...

Why is my Boston weighing 36 lbs?
Do male BTs weigh more than females because of their muscle mass?
I think it could be due to that.
Thank you so much for making helpful videos about Boston Terriers. Have you done one about health problems yet? I just got on a waitlist (with a reputable breeder) and am reading about some of the common vet issues. How concerned should I be about:
-Breathing/airway. Should a lot of Bostons get nostril or soft palette surgery like this vet says? (ua-cam.com/video/dURrj5qTPs8/v-deo.html)
-Eye health, cherry eye, etc.
-Neuter/spay: how do you know when it's the right age to get it done? I've heard anywhere from 3-15 months as the ideal age
-Anal gland issues
-Dealing with rashes/skincare
-Common allergies and how to spot them
And with all of the above, how many of these can be avoided by adopting from a good breeder instead of a pet store or puppy mill?
If you've already addressed this elsewhere, feel free to ignore as I'm still going through all your old videos. All the best!
Kaleim, this is great! I have not done one on health issues yet, but I did do a general article that could be helpful.www.bostonterriersociety.com/boston-terrier-common-health-problems/
Nostril Surgery - we did not do that. I would ask your personal vet this question.
Yes, Boston's can have cataract issues in old age. I will try to cover this soon.
Spay or Neuter: Once again contact your vet but here is an article I wrote that could point you in the right direction. www.bostonterriersociety.com/boston-terrier-spay-or-neuter/
Anal glands - I have not yet had an issue with Bella.
Thank you!
Why does Boston terriers have small tails?
I’m not sure the genetics 🧬 part but they are born without tails. It is possible to be born with a tail but most are born without. www.bostonterriersociety.com/boston-terrier-tail/

Are seals a similar size to the other breeds?
Yes, Bella is a seal. No matter the color all Boston's will be similar size.
I think overall the content is good, but way too many rabbit holes and not straightforward enough. Just answer the question you posed.
