    I tried red velvet hummus (yes, sweet chickpea hummus) earlier. It was totally vegan and not terrible. The brownie batter one was better.

    Wait you're telling me you didn't like the swirl and the pinky tone was also an accident? It totally catched my eye and I love how well it goes with the whole cake. Imagining it without the pink swirl would look more like all the other red velvet/cream cheese cakes but yours definitely has an unique and cute and romantic touch. I'm watching the video for the second time now and even reas the blog I just cant stop dreaming about this mouthwatering piece of art! ♥ With the crumbs: I personally like to do one thing only, either crumbs on the sides OR on top OR partially on the sides when I cake. :))
    And I fully agree with everything you wrote/said about the coloring. I love the earthy brown reddish color of red velvet. And theres nothing more appetising than white white cake or yellow vanilla cake or brown chocolate cake (but I do like colored frostings :)).

    Omg I was one of those people 😜. Don't get me wrong though I was obsessed with those before I went vegan. Oh and I'm definitely going to make this cheesecake ❤️❤️

    Also this cake reminded me of one of my other favorite cakes: Russian Pull Cake/Russischer Zupfkuchen, which many people just make like cheesecake with chocolate but the cake is actually more curd than creamy like and less sweet and thicker. :))

    I dont drink nor use soy. I use organic Rice dream for baking as a liquid replacement. Been using it about 10 yrs. Just a FYI is all. Recipe looks nice.

    Looks mouthwateringly delicious. Literally my mouth is watering just thinking of eating this. Could you use a strawberry puree to get the swirl instead of food coloring? Or would that add too much of another flavor?

      Yes you can! Someone who tried it actually said she thought it was strawberry swirl, and that would NOT be a bad thing! Would totally work!

    Once I saw your thumbnail I just had to step back and take a breather.. Red velvet and cheesecake = one of the best combinations out there!
    Also: do you think that adding some beet juice will give the cake a similar red color for a natural alternative?

      Hi Mariah! I buy it, but I do understand this is a problem for many! I am working on a project to share all HOMEMADE vegan pantry items for cream cheese, butter etc.. for those who want to (or have to!) make their own! AND be sure it is all BAKEABLE! It won't be ready for several months, it takes a long time to compile a course like this.. but I will keep everyone posted!

    Hello Gretchen, I really like your videos! Asking this since you're vegan- which brand of food colors do you use? I've heard and read that almost all commercial food colors are heavily animal-tested! I'm trying natural colors with beets, purple cabbage, etc. but I don't get these bright colors! Would love to hear from you.

      Hi yes! I have been using the last of my chefmaster colors I had for a long time, I had the big bottles and didn't want to waste them, but India Tree makes natural food colors

    Wouldn't concentrated beet juice (from steaming the beets, then reducing) be able to turn the cake red, instead of the food colour?
