This was honestly the best trainer Coach Nick could have chosen to depict this move, and I am in no way repping Shift Team. Devin is a legitimate player with a humbling story and as this video demonstrates, he knows not just the moves he teaches inside out, but also the small, minute details that either make-or-break the move at game speed. We want more of him, Coach! Take it easy.
Will we see more of Devin? I'm a huge fan of both channels considering how Devin teaches more of the individual isolation skills and Coach teaches team skills. It would be great to put two and two together like this every week or something.
the best tip is about focusing on the rim not on defender or contact. that was great question coach! now I know why I struggle getting baskets. I focus too much on getting contact and I look at the defender not the rim. I think this applies to all situations when attacking the rim.
I was always a one foot jumper until I tore my ACL then I moved to 2 feet. I still haven't gotten back to where I quite was vertical wise but I became a much quicker and vicious jumper when I switched to two
I saw a comment where someone asked you if you could read minds and you said "yes." I'm convinced now that you can because I've been wanting a video on this for a while now.
nice move to absorb contact mainly against big centers that like to jump vertical... also loved the training with the pads. I´ve noticed on many occasions the player landed first with the foot he jumped off from, that on NBA is an automatic travel.
This was an excellent drill. I definitely plan on implementing it into my workouts. It would have been nice to see the drill from the wings as well since those are attacking areas also.
Awesome video Coach Nick, glad to see Devin here, followed this guy since 10k hours. Can you make a video on whether Jeremy Lin will fit in the L.A Lakers please? Thanks coach.
I'm here after not having practiced basketball for 6 months and missed two consecutive two feet finishes with contact...i know it is more training and rhythm...but it helps also 5'6'' so this is perfect
+NBAClips def on a wet spot ur done for 12months. Id rather run n gun in bball cause going ham like d rose or d wade those injuries linger add up and u fight through pain to fuc ur shit up more if you aint getting paid yet just practice on getting that jumper wet
Coach, great video but at 4:07 the screen goes to an error message "Media Offline". This means your clip cannot be found by Adobe Premiere Pro. Please re-render.
Coach nick, you definitely should make some team predictions now. Like how good the heat will be with wade, deng, and bosh, The cavs with LeBron, the bulls with gasol, and the Lakers with Kobe and lin.
it looks like at 0:34 he jumps and then jumps again. What's the difference between this and jumping up and down twice (which would be travelling), does the rule change as he is moving and the first jump is regarded as a step?
Question - I understand the whole concept of taking off of both feet to finish a layup in traffic. But how about a floater in traffic?? Is it better to jump stop and go up and float it over the top or is it better to extend off of one leg???
Coach nick could u do more bballbreakdown on everyteam because I came a more efficient basketball player by watching bballbreakdown and when its game my basketball iq rises by what I see on bballbreakdown
this that shit im talking about!!! your videos are decent coach. but these dudes know whats up!!! if you guys can combine some how you guys would be unstoppable with your insight and there ability to coach the game. im not saying you gotta stop doing it all together just stick to xoxo's and fundamentals but these dudes are awesome hope they have a channel cause im subscribing
MyNameIsDaneee Has nothing to do with leg muscles.. He is not even graceful doing the move.. He is exerting pure force planting.. Derrick Rose tore his ACL for this same reason
Loved the move. As an undersized I think this would really help me. Just one question, if I move any of my feet before shooting, thats a traveling right? (I mean, I cant pivot, right?)
Looks like a good move, but it also looks like it could be a travel. Do you only pick the ball up after you get in the air, or how do you do that move to not travel?
The first jump is done as you dribble the ball, so it's considered a gather step, then the landing and jumping to shoot is the real jump part of the move...
BBALLBREAKDOWN Okay, I just wasn't sure if the jump could count as a gather step. Thanks a lot for doing all of these videos that show us different techniques. I especially liked the one about improving the jump shot.
but if youre going for straight layup... you dont have to do this.. because you jump higher off one foot... but both feet will help provide balance and stabilty.. thats why its good when finishing in traffic...
Appreciate you guys for the feature on this channel!
I see you Dev 👀 been grinding forever! Respect

Yes he does, and a pleasure to work with a trainer who can explain those details...

we need more Devin! bring him back on the show for some more on court demos please!
Will we see more of Devin? I'm a huge fan of both channels considering how Devin teaches more of the individual isolation skills and Coach teaches team skills. It would be great to put two and two together like this every week or something.

I was always a one foot jumper until I tore my ACL then I moved to 2 feet. I still haven't gotten back to where I quite was vertical wise but I became a much quicker and vicious jumper when I switched to two

This is sick! How have I not seen this until now??
I would love to watch more videos like this.
I hope this video doesnt get lost because of all the hype about LBJ.
We'll keep linking it out,
I saw a comment where someone asked you if you could read minds and you said "yes." I'm convinced now that you can because I've been wanting a video on this for a while now.
Keep the thoughts on basketball, and we're in good shape, lolz
Just go to shift team Hq for basketball tutorials
nice move to absorb contact mainly against big centers that like to jump vertical... also loved the training with the pads. I´ve noticed on many occasions the player landed first with the foot he jumped off from, that on NBA is an automatic travel.
Putting this on 0.5 speed makes it so easy to see the footwork...though it also makes them sound high
My favorite trainer and my favorite coach on one video!!! I think i made a mess in my pants...thank you Coach Nick and Dev! I love yall!
Ha! Awesome. #ImIn
DEVIN
Holy God devin and nick together. God is on earth
This was an excellent drill. I definitely plan on implementing it into my workouts. It would have been nice to see the drill from the wings as well since those are attacking areas also.
Need more of these! Ten000hours and bballbreakdown two of my fav shit lol
Thank you for sharing this highly effective technique. I just gained a level up in basketball from this video.
Keep making vids like these! Can you do a video on ball handling and controlling the ball better?
Woo!! Devin!!
Devin and Coach Nick should do more collabs!
Awesome video Coach Nick, glad to see Devin here, followed this guy since 10k hours. Can you make a video on whether Jeremy Lin will fit in the L.A Lakers please? Thanks coach.
It is a super video, the skill is super usefull, thanks for sharing!!!!! Love from Guatemala.
Holy shit Devin... Christian... Coach Nick... all in one video
I'm very happy you were able to hook up with Devon great tutorial
My favorite channels together nice!! Yesterday was devs bday to haha
Exactly what I needed
Great content! Can you do a tony parker special on how he finishes at the rim without even being an average athlet?
Thats Derrick Rose move.
and that's how he got injured
David Lavice True
David Lavice
so ur blaming it on the move lmao?
Derrick landed on one leg and the amount of pressure and force and weight he used on his leg, jump, and landing ended up tearing his acl
awesome move. cant wait to try that at the playground!
MORE OF THIS COLLABORATION!!
Perfect tutorial, thank you coach!
Best move out of all your video
Coach Nick and trainer Dev?!?!?! Yeesssss
I'm here after not having practiced basketball for 6 months and missed two consecutive two feet finishes with contact...i know it is more training and rhythm...but it helps also 5'6'' so this is perfect

Can you do some summer league breakdowns
great drill
ayyyyy it's my nigga Devin and Christian
DEVIN!!!
My fear on this move is the hop step. I don't want to tear my acl lol
+NBAClips def on a wet spot ur done for 12months. Id rather run n gun in bball cause going ham like d rose or d wade those injuries linger add up and u fight through pain to fuc ur shit up more if you aint getting paid yet just practice on getting that jumper wet
Plant your foot correctly on the land
Coach, great video but at 4:07 the screen goes to an error message "Media Offline". This means your clip cannot be found by Adobe Premiere Pro. Please re-render.
Devin !!! (:
I thought that was Swaggy P. Great breakdown coach. keep it up.
I did this move in a fast break a year ago i think, and I feel like superman after that.
Coach nick, you definitely should make some team predictions now. Like how good the heat will be with wade, deng, and bosh,
The cavs with LeBron, the bulls with gasol, and the Lakers with Kobe and lin.
Thanks coach, you taught us a great new way to travel!
MEH
***** Watchu talkin about??
T_tu0mass- I'm talking about taking 3 steps with the ball. You know, travel.
It a hop step dumbass
NIGGA YOU STUPID
it looks like at 0:34 he jumps and then jumps again. What's the difference between this and jumping up and down twice (which would be travelling), does the rule change as he is moving and the first jump is regarded as a step?
Yes. On the last dribble, as he's picking it up, you're allowed a gather step, which is the first jump.
Question - I understand the whole concept of taking off of both feet to finish a layup in traffic. But how about a floater in traffic?? Is it better to jump stop and go up and float it over the top or is it better to extend off of one leg???
EPISODE 6 10000 MY BOY DEV IS A BOSS
Coach nick could u do more bballbreakdown on everyteam because I came a more efficient basketball player by watching bballbreakdown and when its game my basketball iq rises by what I see on bballbreakdown
MY MAIN MAN DEVIN
Coach nick with Nick young in the back!! Jk ik its not him but it looks like him
Damn Devin
my dude dev! so surprised lol
would love to use that move but I think its a travel in Europe but still a very helpfull video keep it up coach nick! :)
I could see why fiba refs would call it. But if you're in the US, you're okay.
this that shit im talking about!!! your videos are decent coach. but these dudes know whats up!!! if you guys can combine some how you guys would be unstoppable with your insight and there ability to coach the game. im not saying you gotta stop doing it all together just stick to xoxo's and fundamentals but these dudes are awesome hope they have a channel cause im subscribing
Those hop steps would put a lot of pressure on the knees. Use the move ocassionally.
Exactly
only if you don't have enough support from your leg muscles. for a good athlete this is no problem
MyNameIsDaneee Has nothing to do with leg muscles.. He is not even graceful doing the move.. He is exerting pure force planting.. Derrick Rose tore his ACL for this same reason
The game of basketball puts a lot of pressure on the knees - this shouldn't be considered dangerous or anything
SDS Overfiend well, you're wrong. a main function of the leg muscles is to support the knee.
nice drill! glad to see you guys make a vid together
Thanks. Stay tuned! Lots more on court demos coming up...
superb
Wow!
Dev!!!!
SHIFTTEAM!!!!!!
OH SHIT! I GOT SURPRISED WHEN I SAW DEVINS FACE :D
Loved the move. As an undersized I think this would really help me. Just one question, if I move any of my feet before shooting, thats a traveling right? (I mean, I cant pivot, right?)
Pass the ball around behind your back while hop stepping, it's harder to defend plus looks cooler lol
I did not get if they explain the double clutch you have to make to absorbe the contact first, then shoot
it's dev! #wemadeit
aka the Derrick Rose move.
it should be balanced with running floaters and Steve Nash/Tony Parker-like scoop shots
Devin i am a 14yr old baller , and i wanna know about that dribble before the hopstep, is that like a in & out?
+King Redd you can do in and out or just a hard dribble in one direction
but if youre going for straight layup... you dont have to do this.. because you jump higher off one foot... but both feet will help provide balance and stabilty.. thats why its good when finishing in traffic...
Reminds me of Jamal Crawford Shake and bake
nick young in the back
