My motto is to waste as little energy as possible on offense. Whether that's taking one strong dribble to the rim, or passing it when there's no opening. This fits right in what I'm about, great vid coach Nick!
Coach Nick just want to give you some props on the great videos. I'm 26 and started playing basketball 5 years ago I've improved dramatically just from teaching myself but I have learned so much about improving my fundamentals and am already seeing the improvement in my game so great job and much appreciated.
das ist quatsch., its pin pointing a single incident waht 6 years ago and trying to ruin a person over it....... and who says it was my fault and not the other persons fault....... hmmmmm do they get punished ? no.....
As a high school guard trying to get better, this is great. I would really appreciate if you could add more videos like this(footwork when on offense) because this is awesome. Thanks!
A really good training aid for your feet rythem and reaction time is a drill I made up call more bounce to the oz... two people stand in front of each other 15ft away they bounce in place out of the bounce foot work ahead the objective is to develop a timed step out of the bounce with syncrancity. Pair slower players with quicker players to increase their reaction speed.
Great video. This is the absolute best way to beat someone out of the mid or high post. When you only have to take one dribble to get to the hoop, all you need is a step and it's over. He didn't show my favorite counter though--what I call the wheel move (anchoring your outside foot and doing a complete spin to the baseline). Once your defender gets used to the inside or reverse pivot, it's an unstoppable move. You can only really catch the defense off guard with it once or twice, but it's got an incredible success rate if you set it up right. Marc Gasol and Carmelo Anthony both do it incredibly well.
I notice a lot of guys in the NBA like to catch, jump stop and pump fake simultaneously when they come off a curl but I like this attack first mentality tbh
catching on the hop and putting your body with your back/side to the defender is more effective and gives you lots more possible moves then doing 1-2 then triple threat.
Ňiķołà95 Dylan is right. What the coach showed in the video, is indeed a travel because he changes his pivot foot, even in the NBA. Even though refs hardly call it...
Pilpellon When he catches the ball, he spins using his left foot as the pivot. Then he moves his left foot before dribbling the ball. When he moves his left foot, it's him changing his pivot foot. That's how it's a travel.
Why would the reverse pivot be the first move? If the defender is overplaying and you're utilizing his aggression, the best simply move would be a power dribble to the foul extended, or right to the right. Forget the reverse pivot first, it's too easy to be caught up, just get low and go, pull up or layup.
This is a great drill, the only thing I'd be worried about is if the defender strips the ball when turning. Wouldn't you want to be lower on the turn than shown?
BBALLBREAKDOWN Twist: They ran out of Volt colored shorts and sent me an email to pick a different color, so I was able to let them know your channel sent me. They were super helpful and polite! Both you and Point3 have earned my brand loyalty and respect. I'm in!
Myself being a coach and a trainer find it really hard not to be judgmental about other coaches and trainers when they're trying to teach professional basketball, however this particular video was extremely not useful, teaching a person how to Pivot and being able to go left and right both of you consistently and dominantly have to have a solid foundation you can't teach kids the improper way of pivoting if you use this move it's gonna be called walk by an official. After you pivoted and get open the very next step you are switching pivots, once you switch your Pivot foot it is called traveling that's what's gonna get a call when you do this move he takes a complete step before the ball is even placed on the ground for NBA ballplayers this video might work or if you're playing overseas, but for high school ballplayers and college ballplayers do yourself a favor and forget this video
@@playoffl36ron8 at like 4:32 he sets his left foot as his pivot foot. When he starts to drive the ball must touch the ground before he lifts his pivot foot, which doesnt happen.
2:46 "third option" - don´t do it, it´s a travel. If you want to go by, use your right foot, not left. The moment you lift your left foot, after you have already pivoted on it, the ref will call a travel.
Interesting.. in youth leagues Germany it's considered a travel because the ball has to hit the floor before the pivot foot moves. In the US and acually professional leagues around Europe, for that matter, it's when the pivot is picked up and hits the floor before the ball does it's a travel. So it's not a viable move to teach our kids that play in the youth leagues here. I like it though and worked on similar moves with guys who recently left to play in the States..
actually, I can see why you say that. It's really close, and if I was drilling it, I'd make sure they got the ball on the ground before that foot came up.
i like the move by all means. unfortunately, the way it's done in the video it's always called here.. we had to find different techniques in order to avoid traveling calls and still allow our guys to stay quick, i.e. a crossover dribble directly off the catch. (idk if that makes sense the way i phrased it).
Nice stuff coach, but really. Every, and I mean literally every move I see them make is a travel. Pivot, explode, pivot foot leaves the floor, ball leaves the hand.
BBALLBREAKDOWN Interestingly, both NBA and college have the same standards: www.nba.com/analysis/rules_10.html section XIV, part f: f. In starting a dribble after (1) receiving the ball while standing still, or (2) coming to a legal stop, the ball must be out of the player's hand before the pivot foot is raised off the floor. College rules aren't any different (section 70, article 4 "b.The pivot foot shall not be lifted before the ball is released to start a dribble.") So even by NBA standards, it doesn't look like a violation... it *is*. They don't call it, because they don't referee by their own rules. Fix the rules, or fix the refs (and the players with that). (and yes, I ref in Europe)
Koos Gadellaa Finally someone points this out the way it is! I strongly share your opinion. I am also a Ref, but in germany. Want to talk about this? Please mail me: @ type[at]type-style.de
how to improve your travlling skills !!!! seriously , its' travelling in all movement... i'm mean i'm french and i know the rules are different in US. but you teach how to change your pivot feet... the ref gonna loves it...
Good points but catching the ball not squared up to the basket makes it difficult to shoot. If you're open on the catch you won't be able to get the shot off.
Coming off of down screens or rolling up in a read and react style offense will often result in having to receive the ball with your back to the basket.
Whistle! Traveling!!! You cannot lift your pivot foot before the ball hits the floor on a dribble. You can lift it on a shot or pass, as long as the foot doesn't return to the ground before shot or pass is released. This is the rule everywhere! At all levels. So many UA-cam videos demonstrate this traveling.
This doesnt make much sense, you never want to be facing away from the basket when catching the ball. You're not a threat with your back to the basket at the 3pt line.
There is a reason no one in the nba does a reverse pivot to drive to the basket while catching it on the wing. This is such horrible advice that it's painful to watch.
BBALLBREAKDOWN Ignore them Coach, I was teaching my players to reverse pivot into a running hook from the baseline and the low post. You're absolutely right, many players use the reverse pivot for many reasons, and one of those reasons may be to drive hard on the catch, as outlined in this video. So good job man!
zm ma i tend to agree with you. I was always taught to open up to the court. the black coach went through a very lengthy discussion of how to set your feet upon the catch so that you don't cut off the court. then proceeds to teach you to reverse pivot. of course it needs to be in your arsenal but used sparingly.
A really good training aid for your feet rythem and reaction time is a drill I made up call more bounce to the oz... two people stand in front of each other 15ft away they bounce in place out of the bounce foot work ahead the objective is to develop a timed step out of the bounce with syncrancity. Steven KC complete opposite of this. 100 dribbles, 20 crossovers and about 5 in-and-outs to get off one bad shot #ballsohard

Attacking off the catch is super important in bball.

isn't it a traveling violation when you lift your pivot first before your first dribble?

Ňiķołà95 Yeah - there are some things that don't translate well...

Shaquille Siyam How is it a travel? No way brother

Those who can, DO, those who can't, TEACH. Great vid, I don't even play basketball but I'm fascinated by the minutia of the game.
I'm gonna be in a bball camp later this month should I be nervous if I mess up on these drills because I don't play a lot of basketball im 14
Not at all. Making mistakes is totally fine at a basketball camp, that's why you're there. 💪🏀👍
Good hopefully they don't make fun of me if I miss an wide open layup
This is a great drill, the only thing I'd be worried about is if the defender strips the ball when turning. Wouldn't you want to be lower on the turn than shown?
You swing the ball low if the defender's hands are high and vice versa
Good point. Ripping the ball thru strong will also lead to getting by him, or a foul...
abdoalsmoudi1 if you turn with strength and quickness the defender will have to swipe which will result in a foul call
Question, at minute 2:40 where he shows the third options, does he change his pivot foot, from left to right, making it a traveling violation?
that's what I thought as well
he did but thats not what this video is stressing
The sound is a bit messed up but great video
I am cursed... 🏀😃
Just bought some point 3 gear. Unfortunately/fortunately they had a 20% discount on site so i didn't use your code.
