The best thing about these clips is John. Natural enthusiasm and real interest, with people skills that put people at ease. Starting with “bikes are cool,” and then proving it.
@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage Looks like a great meet up , would love to come over from the UK , we have a lot of classic meet ups , one in Blackpool called ride the lights , around 5000 riders along 24 mile prom on the sea front in August !
@@curtisducati Curtis, we’d be interested in how you attract newcomers, etc. The UK seems to have an enthusiasm for classic bikes that we strive to get started.
Your Arabesque with all the gold-plated parts was stunning and well deserved best of show bike. Again my apologies for having the only MTB in the show (my 1981 Stumpjumper) right next to it. What a contrast! Grunge vs. bling!!
Congrats on the win, John! In retirement, five or six hours of sleep per night is my norm. But I compensate by catching a cat nap or two during the day. Love that Motobecane, one of my favorite vintage makes. My own is a fully rebuilt (by me) 1980 Grand Sprint, made of Vitus 888 and marketed as a training bike. Not valued by collectors, but precious to me since my own 1979 model, which I worked an entire summer to buy while I was an undergrad and rode thousands of miles. Sadly, that bike was stolen during one of my deployments with the US Navy. I was happy to welcome its replacement.
John, you don't know how envious I am of not being able to meet these wonderful bikes here in the south of Brazil, or in Brazil. Translate by Google . Kkkk
Holy smokes those were some beautiful looking bicycles. That you for sharing and congratulations on your bicycle getting an award. Keep up the great work and stay safe out there.
Hey John great video. Love hearing all the history of bikes by the owners. Definitely looking forward to your next video. All the best! Oh and congratulations on you win with the Paramount.
Wow, what beautiful memories. In 1980 I bought a CUEVAS frame, built and signed by Francisco Cuevas. He had a shop in New York. He was a Spanish builder. It is outfitted with Campagnolo Nuevo Record components and some Cinelli and Phil Wood bottom bracket. I also have 2 sets of wheels. One with sew-ups and the other clincher tires. I haven't ridden it in decades. Has anybody ever heard of him?
Thanks John. This was a great view of a great bunch of people and their bikes. I love seeing the many old friends and some new ones as well too. There's so much to learn. I see some of your commenters are still newbies. They haven't figured a lot of it out, but that's the fun challenge. Learning about the ICS from Switzerland, or custom builders from all around the world, there really are wonderful, wonderful craftworks here. Thanks so much for showing us all that wonderful event, wish I could have made it. Thanks, Dale
Thanks Dale. it was a fun and difficult video to edit and put together. My fault however. I have to get better at this. I had a lot more footage but trying to balance how much to put it so you dont put people to sleep! LOL. Thanks for watching.
Soooo sick!!! I'm into converting vintage bikes to single speed/fixed gear but these are insanely beautiful! The best thing about older bikes is the swag!!!!. Soooooo many different colors, shades, and tones with complimentary components to match. Everything is black today and it sucks! The only vintage bike I have that's untouched and "rare" is a lotus super pro aero. The oval tubing and color is sick!! It is missing the original wheels but that's it. Oh and one bar end cap.
Thanks so much for sharing this, and congrats on your win! At almost 52 years old, I grew up loving steel frame bikes, especially the Italian made (Colnago steals my heart every time). I started riding at age 5 (that's when I took off my training wheels), and fell in love with road race bikes after watching the movie "Breaking Away". I spent hours drooling over bike catalogues, really loved the track bikes. Still ride a steel frame single speed/fixie, however I am really wanting to build a steel road/gravel
I really wanted to go, but weather didn’t cooperate and Spring planting on our farm got pushed back. Thanks for showcasing some of the best to your viewers.
What a video! Keep ‘em coming, John! Congrats on the win. Wish I could go next year but I refuse to get on an airliner, and private charter just isn’t practical. Here I am talking about practical and I own an exotic bike. Nothing we do with bicycles has anything to do with “practical,” I was holding my breath and just waiting for you to say ‘Three Rensho”. You didn’t disappoint. Of course the awards announcer….
So much cool stuff! Robbie's insane Colnago is just incredible! It looks like something Elvis might have ridden. :-) The blue cromovelato Magni is similarly amazing. ICS did a handful of curious little tweaks to the components, which is a lot of fun. All of Gary's bikes, like his Jo Routens, have been a lot of fun to look at, with all sorts of novel and fascinating little gadgets. Where does he find this stuff?? Very fun to see Jeffrey Bock again, as well as Doug Fattic, Harvey, Marcus, etc. Great folks.
@@aq7705 I have to rebuild it first. I don't ride bikes in my videos much. But I will be doing that more. You'll see a video in the end of July. I am riding my Jack Taylor touring bike. The full length of the Ohio and Erie trail. I'm not much of a blogger but I guess I'm going to learn LOL
4:06 Still riding an Alpha Q fork I got for $140 that I paired with an unforked 2006 BLUE RC6 which I got for $200 10 years ago. Their carbon steerer tubes had to be retrofitted with aluminum inserts for extra measure of safety.
great video - thanks I bet the smell of oil, rubber and grease there was amazing? It's the odour of 70s bike shop that evokes so many memories of Saturday mornings and waiting for my LBS, Led Davies in Morriston, Swansea, UK, to open while drooling over the Reynolds 531 bikes in the window 🙂 Happy days indeed!
Great video John! Congrats on the win and so appreciate you spending time on the Motobecane, Teledyne and that chrome Ritchey track bike! Looking forward to seeing your Volare, which btw is my size and I’ve been looking for one for a long time…just sayin.
Thanks! IDK if I could sell it. Its not my size but they are hard to find. Plus I'd probably ask to much $$$$ for it because of how rare and its condition. I should of spent more time on the Ritchey. That was one of the stars of the show!
Totally excellent. Rode my first race in 1968..love the early evolution of bike tech-Campy-Custom frames etc, etc. Raced on Campy Record..C Record..and STILL riding Super Record 11 speed. Recently built a 653 Bob Jackson-11 speed Campy Record and swapped my Pinarello f8 for a 2014 Argon Titanium-Campy Super Record…the latest Road Bike tech …just a step or two too far in my opinion…appreciate your passion and content.
AMF was a sports company in Canada in the 80's. Marinoni's should have a serial number under the bottom bracket. If you send it to them, they can usually give some info or build sheet. Also they will paint and restore their old frames. More info on their website about how to contact them. I have a Marinoni Piuma from about 1999/2000. They emailed a copy of the original build order. Just for asking.
Hi David, Yes, I have been in contact with Marinoni, and they confirmed everything. However, I need confirmation from Mark Gorski that it was his. Pretty sure it was.
We are working on that. A little Guerciotti was shown by a woman, and “BianchiGirl” from Bike Forums was there. I always wanted to meet her, and finally have. A privilege.
