- Hey guys, In this video you'll see a lot of highlighted bikes from the party. We had about 35 attendees and most brought their bikes with them. So glad we had a great turnout! Then we go to the Bike swap in St Charles IL and pick up a few things. Come a long for the ride!

Amazing how fit all these older gentlemen appear to be! One of the long term benefits of cycling.
In previous generations when children came out of the theatre on a Saturday matinee with a Western double feature like Roy Rogers and Zorro, they'd come out of the dark to the outside with eyes as big as saucers. Well, after a half hour looking at these beautiful classic bikes my eyes are just that big. Some beautiful. Some interesting. Some both. But all wonderful. Thanks so much for putting all of this together. All the best.
Glad you enjoyed! I loving seeing all the different bikes as well.
@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage Great Video , would love to come over from England , and bring my new ride , a Batavus Bank Giro Loterij Team bike ridden by Rudie Kemna !
Always interesting to see bikes swaps and parts with pricing. Thanks
Thanks that was really nice! My kinda bike nuts.....😊❤
What a great event!
Thank you for sharing it........Aust.
Thanks!
Best in show - WOOF !
this is art !
i'll take any of these bikes over the current aero sht.
the Trike was super cool .
Lon Haldeman! Wow! My hero. I say it every time. Can't help it
Absolutely. He's not only a great cyclist, he's a great person!
Cool. I started cycling, back in 1968..largely due to the Carbutt family. Joined cycling club-Saracen RC near Birmingham ,England. Paul Carbutt was Multi National Champion..spent many hours in his company on training rides and Races….I am Now living in Co Donegal- Irelands West coast and was really sorry to hear of his death in 2004. He is on the front cover of your Cycling Mag…second in line!
I love the Blue Cannondale, but that ?Carlton? blue with flat bars was gorgeous!
Oh yeah. That Carlton is so cool. You'll see the Cannondale being built on Friday this week
Vintage bikes is for me John, great video.Love and Light
Wonderful. Oh, that RIGI
Special shout out to the old Claud Butler.
Everyone loved the Rigi! so unique!
Hey John, great video , that Rigi was wild.
I’ve got to start going to vintage bike swaps.
Looking forward to your next video.
All the best!
Thanks much!
"almost like being there..." great party + the swap meet was nice for those of us who aren't close to one.
I like the Porsche in your picture!
thx! less expensive than psychotherapy & more fun. (also matches the Mockba 80). have had 356s in the family since the late '60s. old Alfas are fun too.@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage
This looks like so much fun! Some gorgeous bikes! As a 51 year old steel frame bike lover this is right up my alley! That Waterford track bike! 😍😍😍
Lots of cool folks and cool bikes! Great to see Andrew's(?) Jack Taylor, Brad's Rigi, Marcus's(?) Crescent, the Claud Butler, and many more.
They really stepped up Steve, Brought some excellent bikes!
I remember reading a review of the Rigi (c.1981) that claimed the handling was so quick (read: squirrelly) that it was hard to take a hand off the bars to shift!
I would totally believe that.
That grey Eisentrout is my favorite of the group..... The jubilee and minimal decals really do it for me
I love jubilee. The front derailleur is beautiful also
I think any good collection representing that era should have an Eisentrout in the mix. Im looking for one in my size.
The Jack Taylor is gorgeous in its detail. To think, all the pinstriping on that frame was done by hand! IIRC there's a video of it on UA-cam somewhere...
ua-cam.com/video/ALNsQpCL8LY/v-deo.html In this video it shows them being put on with a roller. So nostalgic!
@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage Yes! That's it, that's the one I was thinking of 😁👍
John, you are the "Vintage Bike Ambassador". Wow, what an event, and that swap meet is amazing, dang the frames and components I could buy. To bad I live in Atlanta.
Thanks for all the eye candy, I love the beauty of all the vintage bikes.
Glad you're enjoying it. Thanks for watching
I love your videos John. Fun stuff!!And your low key Chicago big shoulders demeanor and delivery is priceless. Your party guests are marvelous!
Its a fun time! I'm hoping to build on this event in the future. Thanks for watching!
1971 Crescent from Sweden, sweeeeeet. Lovely video thanks for putting it together and online. I’m enjoying it.
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice work John. I didn’t see the Rigi “best in show” whilst I was there. A very novel build. I need to look more carefully at your next Garage Party.
Andrew, I'm in the same position as you. As a host. I never slowed down and didn't see a few bikes there myself! Glad you came!
ooo, I saw a Mtn Rack on a table. They are great. They last forever.
loving the hip flask holder on the Carlton!
The rigi is my favorite. Such a nice color and unique design.
I agree. I think it was everyone's favorite at the party
Wow what a great event you put on John 😊 some beautiful bikes on show awesome, your knowledge is amazing dude ❤ Pete🚴🏻🚴🏻👍
Thank you sir.
Legend 🚲🙌
Elwood's bike is wayyyy cool too
Hi John - Enjoyed the video and especially liked seeing my track bike included. Bob
Hey Bob!
I never owned one but I always thought Rigi's were beautiful frames.
Wish I was close enough to come be part of your crowd John! I’d love to geek-out about classic, old bikes with other aficionados (and show off some of my own too!)
It's a lot of fun. Check the forums to find something close to you!
John knows a lot about bike and has a ton of cool bikes
I learn a lot from you guys!
Great fun, thanks. Eagerly awaiting the Cannondale video.
Coming soon. The title of that vid might be something like "What is Shimano Sante and why did it exist?"
Just a quick note. Allegro bikes are (were?) made in Neuchatel Switzerland. Back in the 70s they wear moderate high end bikes in the shop I worked in Boulder,CO. Love your channel. Thanks.
great info. thanks for watching!!
Great video. That Bianchi at the beginning is fabulous too bad we didn’t get more details on it! Someone needs to 3D print that little thingie from the Victory RD. The original Athena used something similar or maybe the same thing. But they are tricky to find.
If you watched the video with my Ochsner you'll see why I bought that derailleur. The Triumph derailleur sat to far back, so it didn't shift properly. This Victory should work!
I really like vintage cycles. I have my 1984 Gios Professional which i rode in all sorts of competitions. I restored it and ride it occasionally and in oldtimer Events.
That's awesome. you'll see a Gios that is coming to the collection a week from friday.
Great video
Thank you
wow, i see a Cornelo profil has made it all the way up there. that's a Dutch brand, probably build by Tecnotrat from Italy.
He always brings something cool!
15:02 dino-rider!!! ❤❤
Lusting after that Bianchi sign!
Hard to find!
Great !!!
THanks
A riot of machines😊
Great showing!
Keep that Cannondale blue! Its gorgeous
I will, you will see it and next week's video
magnificent presentation ☑☑☑☑☑
Many thanks
Wish I could come next year. I no longer fly commercial, and I don’t care to drive. That leaves one option. I must ride there. The bike is fast but the engine is shot (and blows gas around the rings!). I’ll need to leave early in order to make it on time. Probably would need to leave right after Thanksgiving.
I love the Rigi.
IT was a favorite at the show.
I love the older Colnago’s
Same. Its a favorite!
There needs to be more of these different ones for different eras & type like mountain bike for instance.
I agree! You can do one too!
Have never seen a white Crescent! I thought they only came in orange! HiE hubs. Cool, but the quick release was, well replaceable. I raced a bit with Lon...
Lon is a legend. In the early 80s I worked with a shop that competed with the shop he worked at. Where did you live?
@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarageAt that time, Carbondale, then Germany and back to Carbondale. My brother, Dan, was a teammate of Lon for years. He own Grand Performance in St Paul. He has a basement full of bike at his house.
Same here. I’ve never seen a white crescent. Back in the early 70s I wanted to Crescent. Maybe the thing I liked best about them was the orange color.
I understood they weren’t of the highest quality, but still, I wanted one.
John, thank you so much for these videos. They just warm my heart. It’s hard to believe that what we thought was common back then, is now highly collectible. My ‘64 impala, and Cilo were just transportation. Now they are desirable.
Sabliere a fillet brazed 70’s they were always painted reddish orange
I need that Victory RD.
I can spare the triumph one that I am taking off. Lol
Anyone know what brand chainring is on the Waterford track @ 17:54?
Great show and featured bikes!
QBP 49T 144mm 1/8”
Can I ask you John, who produced that bike diagram behind Marcus? Thanks! New subscriber 👍🏴
Are you talking about the blue one up on the wall?
in your videos i keep getting fixated on an orange bike with white grip tape. what is that masterpiece?
It looks a really cool meet. If anyone knows of similar events in the UK please reply. Thank you.
Hi, this was just a my personal get together. Check out bike forums and facebook groups in your area.
Hey, I have a stainless steel version of the Rigi in a 59cm. Bare frame. No fork. Any ideas on a proper fork?
You would have to do the same digging that I would do. Tough to google because google is going to think that you want a Rigid fork. Not a Rigi..
We’re all Rigi stainless or was that just an option. Apparently they climb very well but can be prone to oversteer.
I wish you could have gotten Lon to talk with you on video.
I did a quick interview with him last year at the Madison swap. That is on video.
Are scwinn varsity good or tourer ?
Sorry. I'm not following your question. YES, the Varsity is a good durable bike. Not a great handling bike though. Its very heavy. But great quality!
Earl!
Just a cultural note. Why do Yanks use the term Campy? Whilst Europe says Campag. Is it anything to do with metric and imperial.....
Imperial? Ive heard the term Campy my entire life. Its just short nickname.
@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage only USA , Liberia and Myanmar use Ounces and Inches.
the FREEMASONIC illuminatti will never let the kings system die....the dimensions are unified with magical quantities.... they enjoy that normal people think its dumb...
@@lawrencehallett5669 And England, my good man.
Hey
Hey
Hello John I have many vintage bikes if interested maybe we can chat. Thank you , Paul
Do you mean to sell?
Yes
@@paulortaglia1852 My email is on the front page of my channel here on UA-cam. Probably not in the market, I just spent close to five figures on a bicycle collection. You'll see that in a video coming soon. You are more than welcome to send me an email. Thanks!
