Just to clear up anyone that may be confused. The evo 7,8 and 9 tail lamps are all bolt on/interchangeable. No modifications needed. Those TYC lights used on the movie cars are actually for a regular Lancer, not an Evo. That’s why they took so much work to fit. It always confused me on why they did that. But it makes sense now. The Evo 7 lamps are all red, with a clear lower portion. The Evo 8 tail lights are “Altezza” style which is what those TYC lamps look to be. So even though they were for a lancer they have a similar appearance to an Evo 8 lamp.
Since their goal was to make a VII look like an VIII, it's really unfortunate Mitsubishi couldn't provide the OEM VIII lights as that was such a distinguishable difference between the two...and they would've bolted right in.

Hi Craig! Could you please tell us about your Lamborghini Diablo? The car is insanely cool and you’re one of the very few genuine car guys to have owned it and you also happen to be Craig Lieberman so…
Thanks for this informative video Craig, i was eagerly waiting for this topic. Not gonna lie, way back as a kid i fell in love with 2f2f Evo. I just love the front end of this car and it’s paintjob (personally i like it, it stands out in a crowd as a tuner should). Sad thing that Evo VII in good condition is a rarity nowadays (even in europe).
One of these Evo’s were reused as a camera/stunt car for Tokyo Drift and presumably scrapped along with the rest of the Evo stunt cars. Whole car had the rear Lancer taillights and indent, same DAMD body kit, wheels and it was repainted red.
I saw the hero 1 car at Hot Import Nights in the DCU Center (Worcester, MA for those who don't know where it's at) literally a decade ago Absolutely stunning condition at that time
One of these cars are here in Norway. It belongs to a guy working at a bodyshop next to a garage where a friend of mine works. He frequently uses it during summertime and has displayed it at exhibits. I was personally never the biggest fan of it, as I prefer them stock. The guy also has a modified Toyota Supra MK5.
One thing you don’t hear many people talk about is the fact that those aren’t Evo tail lights at all. Fun fact: Evo 7 and 8 tail lights are completely interchangeable. The lights used in the film are designed to fit an 8th generation base model Lancer (non Evo). All of the Evo tail lights are significantly wider to fit the wider Evo quarter panels and curve downward at a straight down angle once they wrap around to the side of the car. The base model Lancer tail lights are narrower (which is why the Evo has a wide body appearance right around the tail lights in the movie) and they have more of a point to them on the side of the car, similar to a Lexus is300 tail light.
All evo 7,8, and 9 tail lights are interchangeable, whether jdm or us evos. Same with the head lights. The tail lights on the 2f2f evo are after market from the regular lancer, not the lancer evolution, thus why the need for body work.
I would have just gone with the Opel Speedsters. They look super cool, are more exotic than Lancer Evos, and they are seriously quick, especially when turbocharged. You don't need a million horsepower when you start with a light car.
I have a book on the production of the first 2 F&F movies and I was always wondering where the Opel Speedsters came from or what they would be used for.
i knew about that whole 7 or 8 thing a long time ago, but i still really like the EVO VIII. as much of a muscle car guy as i am, i would still love to have an Evo 8, '04 WRX, '04 350z, 98 240se in my collection. i got turned on to Evo from F&F but i had friends that owned the other cars and being around them back in '04-'06 when they were all new made me really like them as well. i honestly think, based on my own observations, that '04-'05 may have been the last year for good looking cars of any brand that had their own styles. the last good looking mustang was in '04, '02 Trans-AM, '04 Gto, '04 viper, the Lamborghini Murcialago and Gallardo, etc. all loooked good in their early 2000s models. so many vehicles between '05-'10 all started looking alike or less attractive. there are really no more distinguishing factors between them now. obviously, there are exceptions and im not referring to EVERY SINGLE VEHICLE, but i digress.
Talk about an incredible video! It's crazy how much went into the first 2 movies, right down to every single little detail. It's actually insane! But it all definitely helped shape the street racing community and what everyone wanted for their cars. Incredible job, Craig! ^^ By the way, do you sign autographs?
