I had a disc blow completely and spill its contents. Conservative treatment was what I chose. I read that in 2 years time whether you choose surgery or physical therapy, you’ll be at the same place - most of the time . I chose conservative approach and so glad I did. Physical therapy was the best option for me.

My initial symptom was muscle cramping in my knee that no intervention would stop. The nerve pain came later. My Phys. Med. doctor said a small percentage of people presented with this, and it is mistaken at first as a muscular issue. I spent about 2 years trying to solve this with PT and steroid shots, and when it became apparent no more could be done, I had surgery, which worked--no metal, microdiscectomy, hemilaminotomy. I continue each day to practice healthy body mechanics so I can keep my life going. I am concerned about how my mobility will be when I am I'm my 70's and 80's.

I have had a herniated disc for years now, its an old injury, caused by pulling a heavy suitcase of the conveyor and twisting. Then a reinjury. I havent had sciatica, just severe localised pain that becomes excruciating spasms. Bending, lifting heavy weights and running or jumping sets it off. I find doing handstand against a wall really helps, staying up for a minute.

In September of 2019 i herniated a disc in my back. Most painful experience i ever had. Best advice i can give you is to stretch and work on core exercises like planks and the superman. The Mckenzie method that these guys talked about helped so much. If you have a lateral shift in your back get it fixed or you will never find relief. Do this by doing the Mckenzie method. I found great relief. The back takes a looooonnnggg time to heal, but if you will be diligent it WILL heal. Exercise, i know there will be pain but keep at it. It took me about 3 years to be totally and completly pain free. I started noticed a couple months ago of absolutely no more pain. When you start to notice only foot pain your about half way there. Keep doing exercises and stretches every day and believe me it will work!!! If anyone has any questions i would love to help, please leave your comments. I was just as desperate and concerned you are right now and I would love to help.

@@techaditya7055 cobra pose helped me a lot!!! But first things first you've got to look in the mirror and see if you have a lateral shift in your back. This is easily identifiable if you notice your leaning to one side. If you are then you have to do the Mckenzie method to fix lateral shift in spine. Look for the method online where you lean against the wall and push your hips inward to shift your spine into its correct position. Do this SEVERAL times a day. Also do cobra pose immediately afterward several times a day. This is a marathon it's not going to get fixed overnight you have to keep with it every day and you will see results don't slack off I believe in you!

I am on pain management for life and I’m going into my 11th year and it’s starting to affect my bladder i tinkle and sprinkle uncontrollably and at 52 I pray that God gives me 50 more years but I would love for them to be pain and medication free . I have been on every pain med known to man right now it’s methadone and cyclobenzaprine . I also have fibromyalgia since 2000 and I take gabapentin for that along with 4 other meds and a host of vitamins . I have done traditional PT and aquatics PT I also have a tens unit and a bed with the adjustable base and a full body massage chair along with lap band to get some weight off my back but their are plenty of “skinny” folks in my Drs office !! But the band has to be removed and replaced with the sleeve hopefully I can get it done before the new year I tore my disc in 2011 but my Dr didn’t figure it out till 2013 and by 2014 I was medically retired from my job as a foreman at a cheese plant for 8 years prior to that I was a LVN for 10 years . I have also done acupuncture for 3 years . If there is anything else I can try please let me know so I can look into it . Please and Thank you .

God gave people pain to let them know something is wrong. Just masking the pain is the wrong approach. The right approach is eating the right stuff to rebuild the body, doing the right exercises to strengthen the right muscles. I lie across a rolled up towel across my hips to open up the joints. Goodluck.

I have never had the flu or the common cold I never even took a aspirin and then at 41 I jack my back up and it was about 3 years into my pain before I even put a pain med in my mouth and now I have taking my dosage down to the bare minimum but it affects my sleep cause I don’t get a lot of it because of my pain. An MRI may be a good idea, but if this is what your doctor recommended, you can certainly try it. You can also do Sciatica exercises to see if those help. However, if anything causes new pain or more pain, discontinue and see your doctor before doing anything else.
