Oh my goodness! I'm a studio-first listen guy but I def make an exception for Sober live. It's the one with a gazillion views and MJK is in a pink jumper. Both should watch before the next reaction. BTW, I'm seeing my first (first!) Tool show in October. Hope OLK lasts until then! Also, "Baby Tool?" Don't make me suggest The Grudge. 😁
Yeah, we really need to look into some legit audio recording at some point... Right now I'm just livin' on a prayer with my GoPro, haha, but eventually I owe it to _everybody_ to step that up!
"Sober" was the song I enjoyed the most on concert last year. It's certaintly not among most techical songs by them, but sure had such an emotional impact.
This was my first Tool album (that old). I love all their work, but Undertow will always be my favorite album. This is raw Tool. Seeing how they progress as a band through each album chronologically is an adventure unto itself. Best part of Tool is, when they signed with a label, they demanded 100% creative control of their work. They write songs their way, and no one in the record company was allowed to veto or change the material. It is ALL Tool's "vision"
I do love this so much, and the fact that it applies to their music videos, too! As a Lateralus on-boarder who still points to that as my favorite album, I think the bias to love our first Tool on-ramp best of all is _strong_
@@GIVEPAUSEhobby how you arrived - is just where you started the journey. If you ask my favorite 5-10 bands - the only constant without fail - TOOL as my #1 And Tool's BEST song - always the current or most recent Tool song I listened to. They have a song in their catalog that always fits my mood in the moment. I, also, have children (4). Mine are older now. If I had the opportunity (no Metter the holiday or birthdays) those kids are getting a babysitter and i am getting a ticket for Tool. I hear their live show - is an event onto itself. Complete experience (rather than "concert". But i feel your pain. Halloween is my favorite holiday. I just WON'T go see them at a festival. I want Tool, as Tool wants me to witness them. Honestly, if you give the story of "breaking cycles", i think OLK would enjoy Prison Sex. But she may need the context of the song first, rather than recognize it as it progresses through the song. If the brain sees one lyric specifically, it misses some of the following lyrics (and Tool is more subtle than in your face with lyrics) Spiral Out!
I’m 100% of the same mind with maybe getting to PS when you focus on the bigger picture, we’ll have to see. And yeah, the “favorite song is dependent on my mood” is very appropriate for Tool :)
@@GIVEPAUSEhobby -i think I may have lied yesterday. I love Undertow (the rawness of it sounding like they were practically recording it live - minus the crowd). Asa guy who played guitar in rock band when younger. But. Ænima is the album that turned Tool from a good band, to a incredible mucic creation that speaks on all levels. Ænima is the main album I go to from Tool.
Fair point, I don’t give him enough credit. My tastes tend towards Chancellor’s technicality, but the intensity of those early bass lines is has own draw, too.
Good job on lyric video. Regular video would of been distracting. Do Vicarious if you haven't. The meaning behind the song I think applies to all of us.
True, Opiate predated Undertow, but I guess I’ve (somewhat confusingly) been referring to _full length_ studio albums, which is why I’ve been leaving that one off. I’m sure we’ll get back to Opiate at some point too, and yes, through comments here I’ve discovered the live version of this and holy moly, what a show!
@@GIVEPAUSEhobbyThere’s also the Salival live album / DVD (released in 2000) with different versions of some songs including video recordings, and a couple of cover songs, like “No Quarter” (Led Zeppelin) and “You Lied” (Peach) 😊
Oh man, I totally forgot about the cover of No Quarter!! I remember hearing that in high school a bit after it came out and haven’t listened to it since! I remember it being siiick.
That was before we started recording them. I’d fallen down a YT rabbit hole of reaction videos and Lateralus was too good not to try out with Kate (because one of the videos was a compilation of people just losing their minds). So I had an _idea_ that she’d like Tool, but played her nothing else between that and The Pot for the first OLKR video :)
Trick or treating in the Tool concert parking lot. Now THAT would be a memory your children would never forget
Hahahaha, BRILLIANT
Uh-oh. Hey Mom, look what I got--Snickers, Starburst, DMT... Best Halloween ever! 🥴
LOLOL
I'm sure Maynard will be in costume, so it's only parenting 101 to expose your children to classical music 🎵. And DMT of course
Natch 😂
One of the few that the Live version viewing is a must, 1993 on this one, it's on whole nuther' level !!
I’ll have to check it out, thanks!!

BTW, going to my first (first!) Tool show in October. Good luck in your quest. Hope OLK lasts until then!
Oh man, have the best time!!! And thank you for the recommendation of the live recording! It’s so freaking good, I watched it earlier!
I second The Grudge. The long scream towards the end.. “If you know, you know” 😆
DUDE. YES.
Vicarious is a good choice. I was surprised to see a lyric video. But tool is a life changing event.
enjoyed the video, and get that girl a lapel mic.

Tool sometimes dress up on Halloween, and Adam dressed up as Dwight from the office before. 👀 it up.
Oh man… well now I’m questioning our decision!
"Sober" was the song I enjoyed the most on concert last year. It's certaintly not among most techical songs by them, but sure had such an emotional impact.
I'll agree that it's pretty impactful, even if not the most O.O inspiring of their tunes. Jealous of your concert!

You could do both, at that age trick or treat happens 5 to 7. tool will start at 9 to 930 if they have an opening act.
That’s true! Hmmm…
Tool went up a couple of notches musically when they replaced D'amour with Chancellor
Oh dude, for sure. What happened after the switch simply put wouldn’t have been the same (or happened at all) had there never been a replacement.
True. But Paul was a beast as well and opiate and undertow would not have been the same without him.
Fair point, I don’t give him enough credit. My tastes tend towards Chancellor’s technicality, but the intensity of those early bass lines is has own draw, too.

Hell yeah!! 😵💫

Vicarious is fantastic. When I make it back for second takes on each album, that's definitely in the running for 10,000 Days...
It's not album 1, Opiate is. You guys should react to the live at the reading festival version of this song.

As he correctly points out, Opiate is an EP, not a studio album, as you can also tell by the inclusion of live recordings on Opiate.
where is the lateralus reaction? I only see the pot and aenima before this one
That was before we started recording them. I recommend “Prison Sex”
I mean… we did discuss why we didn’t go with that one, but yeah. It’s a great track, even still. 😅
@@GIVEPAUSEhobby yeah, I get it, it’s a tough subject.
Yikes! Heavy no on PS for OLK.
Right!? Hahaha, I steered clear on that one.
Should have watched the live version. It would not have felt underwhelming. meh.
Yeah, I've heard that... whoops :/ Maybe sometime later!
