Great video! The reason why these paints look and act different to the everyday watercolor paint is because the watercolor paints made from this company are similar to handmade paints- they aren't like the commercially made Schmincke and Winsor and Newton. As far as I know, Rublev is a smallish company that sells art supplies but primarily focuses on dry pigment so an artist can make their own paints. (Side note: Their watercolor paints are made with the true real original heavy pigment associated with the color name, instead of recreating the color with multiple cheaper pigments like most commercially made watercolor paints). In the future to get the most out of these paints, especially the earth colors, I would treat them as handmade watercolors and prewet the heck-out-of-them before using. Anyway great video, thanks for sharing, much love ❤
Thank you. Yes these have an awesome granular quality to them. The earth colors are so beautiful. They are also known for there incredible oil paint line.
FINALLY SOMEONE IS SWATCHING THEM! I appreciate you so much! Your channel is amazing.
Thank you so much! I’m trying to get some unique brands swatched.
The great thing about this brand is that they have quite a few of the old pigments. I bought a chrome yellow which is absolutely beautiful and contains a pigment nobody else uses in watercolour any more, PY34.
Yes! I think they are excellent at earth and unusual pigments. The paints have been working so well. Thank you.
The colors are beautiful! ❤
They are, some of my favorite natural tones.
Thanks for the video! Enjoyed watching.
Thank you so much.
Well done I think you did a great job
Thank you so much!
I like about 8 of their colours for sure. Maybe more.
But I would buy them.
Thanks a bunch.
Very welcome!
Awesome that you got some of their paints! Yes pre-wetting is good for them and they look even more pretty on cold press. Weird about the smalt, hope they would replace for you; also my Prussian Blue looks more like a darker blue color. Maybe try the Prussian Blue after pre-wet. Green earths are my nemesis ha i try to love them but they seem like dirty paint water color to me; I booted my Antica out of my palette too. (you can replace it with their very vibrant granulating Cobalt Green Dark) Only Green Earth i have liked is Rare Green Earth by Daniel Smith. The Blue Ridge Yellow Ochre is also a fave.
Ya I agree on the green earths, I pulled that one. The Smalt is good after I removed the green on top but the Prussian doesn’t feel true to form. Overall though their earths are beautiful. I usually pre wet when painting, but for first impressions I like to see their characteristics.
very interesting ❤👌
Thank you! Glad it helps.
Wonderful share 🎉
Thank you so much!
I have Rublev smalt and it’s a beautiful blue color that I love! The one you have is not smalt…
Ya think they had a mixup in their labeling
The quality control issues concern me. I’d like to know the pigment codes. I would do my own 1 year window lightfast tests (as I typically do).
Yes there were a few issues. I should do a pigment info and test. The paints are working well, no re-wetting issues, and their earth tones are very good.
That smalt you got is NOT smalt! It should be a dark powdery blue.
Ya they made a few errors in this paint order. I’m pretty sure the Prussian is wrong labeled also.
I'm only 8 minutes into the video and I'm shocked by the quality control issues! I would email them, especially about the smalt having a different paint poured for the last layer! The Prussian blue looks like a mistake too - it looks like pthalo blue.
Yes there was a few flaws with this order. I always want to show all the information so everyone can choose their opinion. Ya, The Prussian feels like a pthalo also.
Such a shame you didn’t share the pigment numbers.
When the review of how they work comes, I will have all the pigment info. I’m putting together a handmade and pigment company review. Comparing Rublev and Kremer as well as many more. Thank you.
@@RaspberryColors cool. Thanks 👍🏼
$5.00 a half pan is expensive. That's Daniel Smith prices. Which is way too much to pay for handmade paints. Especially when one probably won't exist a weak from now. If people want handmade paints, make your own. It's cheaper, and you'll always know what you're getting.
It has interested me to try making a few of my own.
Rublev has done more to promote and expand art science and safety than nay other company. Look into them, the research they do and the products they bring to the table that otherwise would be extremely difficult for artists to get.
🍁 I live in Canada.

For a 5ml tube of DS wc paint, we pay $13.00 upwards and OVER $18.00
Then there’s taxes of 12%.
- And MOST tubes are on the high end.
NO JOKE‼️
& No exaggeration!

Oh well… can’t complain too much.
We have water, food and a roof over our heads, right? 🤗

@@tavenchristensen3157 you have the good things in life!!! That is really pricey.
@@RaspberryColors Yeah…. it’s just crazy.
It’s just greed. I know everything has gone up in price all around the world, but we have always paid too much for everything.
I’d like to move to Portugal.
Land is cheap and you can grow your own food.
Good weather. Nice people!
Apologies for talking so much.
I enjoy your channel. I’ll check to see if I have subbed yet.
Bfn ;)
Way overated not worth the cost
you don't know how to paint swatches... You are supposed to dip the wet brush in the paint and then mix it around in a palete before painting.
I like to test the rewet. I usually urban sketch, so limited mix space.
