This would not be possible but for the exceptional instrumentalists and their perfect ears and that insane ability that a musician possesses when he/she just knows what the notes are and what Ben is trying to do :-D
@@andrewbrown6272 lol that might be true usually, but the way Ben is conducting here, do you really think it would have worked with a high school band? The orchestra not only is able to take his directions, but also work together. Especially when he just says, you know what to do or gives them the choice to add whatever that want. I am a 100% sure this would not have worked with a high school orchestra. The orchestra he's working with are professionals and it's full of very talented musicians who can adapt, learn quickly and work together. If it wasn't for this, what Ben did would not have worked.
@@andrewbrown6272 and also there's a lot more than directing. In my opinion the most important job in a high school job is arranging and orchestrating. They have the most crucial job because their outputs are what usually goes into the sheet music that the kids will play. Orchestrators must know the limits of their orchestra, especially in terms of Brass, who always sound not in tune. You need to rearrange sections and parts to make it easier for the kids to stay in tune and in time, ensure to stay in an easy range that they can play, ensure there are no complicated articulations for the children. If the Orchestrator or arranger doesn't adapt a piece to their orchestra, no matter how good the director is, it just won't work. The kids have a talent ceiling, and it's up to the orchestrator or arranger to ensure the music is arranged in a way that it fits their talent. So I think a director or conductor is not as important as the orchestrator or arranger.
Not sure if im the first to say it. But bravo to the person filming. Clearly they enjoyed it but kept super still and just filmed! Thanks for letting us enjoy a great moment.
It's still all on one chord though... not very imaginative harmony wise. But the orchestra is constant and ends up improvising by its own which is nice.
ok well props to the cellos for picking literally the entire time
When he made it soft and just after 10:11 (10:13 to be exact), I love how the snare drummer split the beat even further!

Na
@@morbidone88 lol what?
Nope. A talented director can work with any high school band anywhere. If this doesn't ring true for your high school, get a new director.
