Ben and these young musicians and the conductor - rockin' that hall! Awesome talent, just so cool to see the spontaneity and creativeness!!! Thanks to all!
I had 10 years of piano lessons before I started playing in various bands and I can look back on a career making a good second income on nights and weekends pretty much whenever I wanted to. I just wanted to say that given my experience, Ben makes the assignment of parts to the various sections of the orchestra understandable and straightforward. Those who are fearful to start writing for orchestra will probably find this primer heartening when they stumble onto it. Bravo.
my band teacher always said, professionals know what they're comfortable with and won't go outside of those boundaries, highschool and college band students don't have boundaries so will do whatever the hell you tell them to and absolutely send it.
Haha, I played piano for...12 years? & couldn't play a note now. I just don't have the ear for music these people do. It's definitely a good skill for anyone to learn, but don't go into it expecting lessons alone will result in musical genius.
How fun it must be to be a part of this Orchestra. And hearing it slowly come together and waiting to learn and play your part. I’d be thrilled. Cool stuff Thks.
It's a pity this is not done more often. The playful creation of a piece out of thin air, with an orchestra. Often though, orchestra players are so set in their ways of being presented with sheet music, that they don't even see the point. They miss out on the endless playground that is improvisation.
Got one coming up in a week and a half and can't wait! Finally convinced my mom to come see him. I think RTB with the symphony will sell her on Ben. There's no experience quite like it.
Wow So this is how music is made! I always wanted to see when song writing is done and practised before live performance on public stage. Thanks a lot I got to this great effort in music making.
trumpet too really has a sound that is easy for making stuff up. percussion always has many instruments but not tonal ability aside from the chimey instruments. i loved this sound indefinitely. its epic as can be. loved the trumpet player that was improvising some things
1:32 First things first, I'm the realest (realest) Drop this and let the whole world feel it (let 'em feel it) And I'm still in the Murda Bizness I can hold you down, like I'm givin' lessons in physics (right, right?) You should want a bad bitch like this (ha?) Drop it low and pick it up just like this (yeah) Cup of Ace, cup of Goose, cup of Cris lol... Interestingly that song was released the same summer as this was recorded. Must have incepted Ben.
my son is one of the most talented musicians who can create and improvise like nobody's business and has recorded more music than anyone who is living or dead
Seriously, Ben Folds is great orchestrator. He knows various instruments and the roles that each play. Pop/rock, jazz, orchestra - he's simply in the class of his own.
Also, I love how at moments you can see these kids realizing they are a part of something truly excellent.
The one girl behind him was just delighted. I loved watching all their faces.
Exactly!
Great to witness the youth orchestra responses to Folds' instructions.
great composer thanks
This is F***ing AMAZING! His composition skills are outstanding, but these MUSICIANS are absolutely beyond belief!!!
Magnificent Performance for sure! Such admirable collaboration
I used to be a percussionist and I love how much freedom we’re always given. No matter the genre and situation it’s always just “make something up”
Hahaha yeah every time😆
@@markosbeebe6996 especially if you play kit in orchestra settings. Everyone else has very specific dynamics marked out and percussion has “Fill---“
100%!
. NM
Your always a percussionist, it’s like Your name lol
'Anyone not playing just make it up.'
-talented Ben Folds
Ben and these young musicians and the conductor - rockin' that hall! Awesome talent, just so cool to see the spontaneity and creativeness!!! Thanks to all!
This Ben Folds guy and this young orchestra just got a new 83 year old fan.

I found it really interesting that seems youth orchestra always had a better song/performance/feels in his RTB session
my band teacher always said, professionals know what they're comfortable with and won't go outside of those boundaries, highschool and college band students don't have boundaries so will do whatever the hell you tell them to and absolutely send it.
It's so cool to see the smiles on all those kids faces
I’m getting Mandalorian theme off of this.
I was gonna say the exact same thing 😂
This video is, I think, demonstrative of why I want my daughters to learn piano.
I started playing the guitar because I saw and heard my mom practising…….
Haha, I played piano for...12 years? & couldn't play a note now. I just don't have the ear for music these people do. It's definitely a good skill for anyone to learn, but don't go into it expecting lessons alone will result in musical genius.
I'd also like to mention, I found my way here by clicking links after initially watching Ludacris's "Get Back"
It was Bitch Betta Have My Money by AMG, for me.
Fabulous. Great talented young people! Rock on Ben!
This man knows how to motivate! I expect there will be a lot of future professional symphony musicians in the near future. Keep it up!
How fun it must be to be a part of this Orchestra. And hearing it slowly come together and waiting to learn and play your part. I’d be thrilled. Cool stuff Thks.
Have you ever notice that this sounds like the mandalorian mixed up with pirates of the caribbean in certain way?
it sounds like Fancy 😂😳
this guy its reallife jack black from school of rock but orchestra version and I'm loving it
Live looping without a looper with a full orchestra. V cool!
This has the same vibe as the Mandalorian Theme 😀
I wouldn't be surprised if Ludwig Göransson knew this Video
searched for your comment xD
I was looking to see if anyone already wrote this before I commented lol

I think jazz is a good teacher of the power of improvisation. Fun to see it here.
The tympany coming in with that Mandalorian theme
HOWWWW has this not got more views???!!!!
Soon....
This is so goddamn awesome! I know some of those kids and now professional musicians b/c of Ben.
Was this at severance hall?
i feel like im in the middle of a boss fight in kingdom hearts.. love it
Ben: let me see what I can do
Ben: *kabooooom!*
All this from D Minor is pretty amazing to be honest.
at 4:38 it started to sound a bit like the mandelorian theme song of disney plus
Signs of a healthy society, music, creativity and an openness to try and learn
And this my friends is why Ben Folds is a musical genius.
Not many people can do that.
Holy Fu*kballs!!!
well, if he had them do different end notes, he might have been able to create like a 4-chord structure
Ben Folds is secretly Garth from Wayne's World
I can only begin to describe how fun a Ben Folds concert is.
I mean y'all can see for yourself here.
Got one coming up in a week and a half and can't wait! Finally convinced my mom to come see him. I think RTB with the symphony will sell her on Ben. There's no experience quite like it.
Came to this vid because I just saw him in Portland with the Oregon Symphony Orchestra.. absolutely fantastic
Wow! This doesn't look easy but it sure looks like fun! Well done!
The inspiration for the Mandalorian theme song. His voice 😆
this better be an actual song i can listen to
Wow So this is how music is made! I always wanted to see when song writing is done and practised before live performance on public stage. Thanks a lot I got to this great effort in music making.
THIS IS SOO GOOOD 🔥🔥🔥🔥
What fun!
Who wouldn't want to be a musician after hearing this?
This is why composers are divine talented while performists are just show dudes..
Cant express how awesome that was they are so good
Even the orchestra guys they don’t believe there can do that ! The guys is amazing
I love the band! Also they follow the "leader" very well to make their music.
This is how you teach being fearless while being under control and trusting. People this is what you call Masterclass.
I'm pretty much better at every instrument than all of them combined when I'm playing at a party
Those kids are so lucky it must of been so cool 😎 to be taught by him.
My god. I always loved Ben Folds but I had NO idea he was a musical genius.
trumpet too really has a sound that is easy for making stuff up. percussion always has many instruments but not tonal ability aside from the chimey instruments. i loved this sound indefinitely. its epic as can be. loved the trumpet player that was improvising some things
hours of hardwork commitment and practice
Such collective talent and something fun! Thanks for making me 😃 😊 😀 😄 😁
What a moment! I saw Ben Folds Five in San Francisco in 1998 or 1999 and remember it was great

Why does the start gives the Mandalorian vibes? Gotta Love that
When you finally make a whole bunch of young musicians feel less like nerds and more like creators and rock stars
High quality original #432Hz music here: ua-cam.com/video/WJjf68m3y2k/v-deo.html

When you have talent , experience, and confidence, you can do this!! Wonderful to watch the process! So , practice, Guys!!
I would love to see him do this with Mark Wood and some of the Rock Orchestras he visits at the schools!
This is one of the coolest things I have EVER seen/heard!
i can't even get 4 of my co workers to work together...
ummm wow!
He did everything but fold
Well that was a pointless bit of narcissism.
Talent, enthusiasm and passion will out every time. Brilliant, all of you. Thanks for the opportunity / ability to experience this.
my son is one of the most talented musicians who can create and improvise like nobody's business and has recorded more music than anyone who is living or dead

The biggest thing I noticed was the tubular bells timing! Legend
Dig it
Can’t help but hearing a certain satanic ritual tone to this music.
Sends a chill up my spine
