Nice video man! I know this is older, but the Fiero is such an under-appreciated car with an undeserving reputation. They are relatively fuel efficient and fun to drive. People over complicate the engine removal and you showed it can be done without big shop tools. Great job!
You can get the 4 cylinder, not the 6 cylinder out from the top. I did may like that during the warranty days in the mid 80s at the dealer. The reason for the warranty back then was the block cracking along the lifter galley, so if you have water in the oil don't assume it's a head gasket leak ! Short blocked in and out in 7 hours when you do enough of them.
I just saw a Model A Ford coupe with this engine and tranny setup put into it. I have a 1925 Ford Model T runabout that I was trying to find out if this same setup would work on it, as well. It was a unique setup to find in a Model A hot rod, for sure. Do you think this Fiero engine and tranny setup would work on a Model T frame? Thanks. The Model A coupe looked like the yellow coupe in American Graffiti.
Good info!! Are there a lot of plugs/lines on the engine? Figured both radiator hoses, heater core hose, C500 and C203 connectors and fuel lines.. Plus clutch line. Not sure if I'm missing anything.
Miguel Hernandez also need to pull pcm harness through the firewall and lay it on the engine. if it's a manual you need to remove the slave cylinder from the trans. disconnect several vacuum lines up by the throttle body, take off the dogbone mount, e-brake cable needs removed from the cradle (the main cable that runs to the lever), and take the brake calipers off the rotors and tie them up out of the way, no reason to disconnect them at the brake line and introduce air into the brake system, disconnect c500 and c203, and any ground straps and power wires from the battery area. Just did mine today for the first time, took like an hour and a half to do all of that. Then take out cradle bolts and you're ready to pull it.
i wanna do a k24/k20 head swap in one of these, always loved fieros. seeing all that out of the car helps me gigure out how to do that swap, probably gonna end up needing the whole front end out of an acura or something.
Thanks for the info. Working on removing my engine as well. None of the other videos were very informative on exactly how to get the engine cradle out without using some sort of hoist. Did you keep the wheels on while removing the engine? Or did you put the cradle on the transmission jack, remove the wheels and then lower it slowly?
If you only have 1 jack you can put it under in the middle with a 4x4 long enough to reach each side of the car to keep pressure distributed all across the underside. Just make sure to keep checking it so it doesn't slip or crush any critical components. This method works good too or if you have 2 jacks then it will obviously be a lot easier.
thanks for the info 5 years after this video is still helping a lot thanks gains
Got a fiero formula thats been sitting for about 10years. If i can't get her running i will give that swap a shot. Thanks 4 the "inspiration."
I’m goin to pick up my 1986 Pontiac fiero v6 Se today!!

AC lines and trans cooler
Thanks for posting, My clutch went so I will be dropping the motor in the next few days. How's it been running since your tune up?
so I'm dropping the engine and the bolts at the rear of the cradle are spinning, do the bolts come completelty out?
Yeah unfortunately you have stripped bolts, either cut the frame rail or trunk floor from what I have read

Why? You can get Quad 4 or Ecotec engine that would require a LOT less work.
Ok so I have mine totally ready to drop the engine except the springs. How do I remove the springs
Good Job !
IF you were going to tune up engine, why not replace the engine With LQ1 3.4 Dohc v6 or a 3800 Buick supercharged engine?

Luis Fregoso i had to tale the wheels off to disconnect the brake lines and shocks. I put the whole thing on the trans jack.

I gotta drop my engine cause it's got water and some rust in it, so probably gonna do a complete rebuild
You don't have to drop cradle to change clutch
Never too run again....
You should just used dolly easy to moving around... I usually drop my One hours time ahhhhhh.. but waiting my Porsche 911(1975) ahhhhhh
