funny how people say alola region has loved characters, yet the games were the ones that other than the switch gen, railroaded the player the hardest. Proof that players prefer not to have a choice despite what we say. Not saying that's bad, it's just when the story can be predicted, characters can be properly written. You know what the player has and hasn't seen yet, and can properly have the world react around that without needing to put in TONS of "if player has X gym badges insert Y text Else insert Z text" code in the game. As much as I love open world, the characers from sword and shield and Scarlet and violet are by far the most forgetable to me. It was "go here, defeat this person, go here" I think a mix of the graphics of Switch games, The difficulty of Ultra sun and Ultra moon (as well as maybe mix in some gen 1 ruthlessness), and the brutality of sinnoh's champion. With Ultra sun and ultra moon's story structure. Would be a truly memorable game.
Gonna be perfectly honest, even though I love Cynthia and I’m by no means mad at her placing on the list, I do feel like some other characters need to be given the same amount of attention as her. But the only way for that to happen is for Gamefreak to make another character as gorgeous, likable, charming, and in-depth as her, which is not usually an easy feat
I really thought N would get number one. I think my issue with Cynthia is she has no development compared to other characters. Don't get me wrong, she's strong and cool-looking, but there's other characters that I think are better than her, in terms of personality and development.
I am somewhat disappointed cynthia won when she comes from an era where pokemon characters tended to be even flatter than they are now. Which was not helped by Generation V following it up. Though I get it. I love Iris and Hilbert. Hilbert in most pokemon media, being a non-character. Iris having a solid but simple development in the games and considered an annoying brat in the anime, (Though I found it cute dunno 'bout you folks). But like Zinnea, Red, and N are cool, I'm not tasteless
As much as I like Cynthia, she is vastly overrated. An S rank character in SSS kind of overrated. Even non pokemon fans know her, and she's not a gen 1 character. At this point I always give up on my vote when I see her in some kind of pokemon poll.
I've really come to love Alola's characters even more than I aleady did after playing through the region again recently for a Nuzlocke. They all just have so much personality and are very engaging across the board, especially Lillie and Guzma. I am so glad people love them as much as I do.
Gen 7 has problems that I can not deny but it will always be one of my favourite gens because it gave me so many amazing relatable characters. No, conquer the world bullshit just simple family and overall social problems that you see happening irl .
I got legitimately sad after Lillie left at the end of Sun/Moon during my first play through. The handholding and cutscenes can be annoying sometimes but you do get attached to the characters because of it.
@@SpecialZimble That opinion on Gen 5 has changed since like 2018 though. Gen 7 however, is still pretty fuckin easy, with the only real exception being Ultra Necrozma, though it does redeem itself somewhat with its’ plot and characters/ designs.
@@generalsynnacle23 Really? I thought it’s the most challenging generation, of course by Pokémon standards, totem battles made battles like Cynthia look like baby battles
@@perritoshido5845 Only because Totem battles were forced double battles, which are obviously more difficult than single battles. If Cynthia was a double battle, you’d change your mind in an instant.
Not all characters are memorable in Gen 7 but it has a bunch of characters that are extremely memorable and it is not surprising for being the most consistent.
I only started playing when gen 7 came out (I know I’m a fraud of a Pokémon fan how dare I) but it still holds a special place in my heart as being what got me into one of my favorite things Although I’ve been interested in Pokémon for like 9 years and know a lot about the older games despite not having played them The reason I haven’t been playing for that long was because I wasn’t that old when they came out, and i’m not that old now as I’m still a tween
From watching this video all the way through, I was basically able to conclude: - Gen 8 has the best character designs - Gen 4 has the best Champion and overall character (Cynthia) - Gen 7 has some of the most memorable NPCs - Gen 5 is the best in basically every other aspect Shoutout to Professor Oak for holding up his game the whole time and carrying Gen 1 for the categories he is in
I love how Ingo and Volo have been so accepted by the fandom to the point they rival N’s popularity. Maybe you should have a poll for everyone that scored first in their respective categories? Could be fun.
Do love the Pokémon franchise, and the just as much love many of the characters throughout mainseries. Top 25 isn't too surprising, but it fills me with joy nonetheless. N, Gladion, and Lillie probably making my personal top three.
I have just finished the alola anime and let me tell you now i am so fond of lillie and gladion even more than when i play the game. Despite that i think lillie story even in the game is one of the best!
@@maGiCpinkBear Just in case you did not know, the Lillie story arc continues in Pokémon journeys 111, and is currently ranked as one of the best Pokémon episodes ever :3 - Also episode 112 about Alola is amazing
Well no doubt he is, this is a pretty miniscule sample size relative to all of pokemons fanbase, just a fun experiment amongst a youtubers community, not reflective of the objective thoughts of all pokemon players. Many factors at play with this kind of thing as well like audience age, recency bias, what games they've managed to play, if they managed to meet all the characters in said games etc.
I’m so glad people appreciate Galar’s characters, especially design-wise. I agree that Sword and Shield felt a bit rushed, but if did cut a few corners, the human character design was far from one of them. They looked cool, they had super diverse appearances, and the Gym Leaders clearly fit their types despite only a few having unnatural hair colors. (In pretty much every other gen besides Gen 1, everyone has color-coded hair. Making a character fit their type theme without doing this is much harder, but Galar does a great job.)
Yeah and Hop’s character arc was incredible. Honestly imo the game’s only issues were the following: -Rose’s plan -Routes between gyms felt too short -Mouse cursor in credits But otherwise SwSh was a good game
@@amiiboguy7288 Personally I feel like them being short isn't too much of an issue. A route can be pretty short to move through but still have lots of content. It's just that Galar's routes are essentially hallways with grass/encounter spots in them
@@amiiboguy7288 honestly, roses plan was good but they really needed to explain it a bit more. Which could have happened of they just *didn't rush the end of the game*.
@@amiiboguy7288 Hop’s character arc can be condensed as “I wanted to be like my brother but found out I suck at his profession so I’m going to stop battling altogether the end”
@@emblemblade9245 What's funny is he doesn't even suck, he beat all the gyms and got to the semifinals of the challenge objectively making him i think top 3 in region. But we got the Protag privilege so he just recognized and went to be the assistant for the hot older girl down the block. If anything, he truly won...
I cackled WILDLY at seeing the Nimbasa Trio all made it to the top 25. Like, I had a feeling at last Ingo would make it thanks to his most recent boost in popularity, but his twin actually made it for once and Elesa too!! I literally cheered out loud every time they made the cut, they're my favorites. :D
So for the gym leader polls, people said they didnt care if the gym leaders showed up elsewhere and just wanted cool designs, personality, and difficulty, and then put all of the gym leaders that have some sort of importance outside of the gym as the favorites. So them doing stuff outside the gyms may not be the most important thing, but it certainly is a major factor.
By virtue of them being on screen and doing things, it makes them more memorable. If the design and personality are good, being relevant is essential to being a popular character. Maybe not so much to being a popular *gym leader* but it certainly helps.
Its funny cause sinnoh started the "gym leaders outside the gyms'' thing. Few were PLOT relevant, but looking back every single one of them aside from i think Byron has a scene or 2 outside of their boss battle just living their lives. But i guess ppl preferres story importance after all
Really impressive that Volo ranked so high based off of his low screen time and only 1 game. The sad truth is he will probably never even be mentioned in another game.
Actually I think Volo has a lot of screentime in that one game and has more plot relevance than Cynthia ever did in all mainline games she appeared in.
@@yangwenlifangirl well he has low screen time because he has a single appearance in the series. People are gonna pick their favourite based off of everything, not just the games. And your right about plot relevance lol Cynthia does nothing significant in the core games.
@@TopOfAllWorlds he has low total screentime because he has only been in 1 game. We are talking about the entire franchise including the anime and pcg. Taking all that into acount, Volo has the least screentime
@@lxxdccvii4805 it doesn't matter if he's in the anime or if he's in one game. He made an impression on people despite that. So that should tell you something. He had a lot of screentime in the one game he was in so people remember him. It's not hard to comprehend
I think Magma and Aqua being (mostly) version exclusive affects the results a lot, since out of the main series not everyone has even experienced both of them.
Everyone who played a Hoenn game would experience both teams, but you would experience them in different ways since they're villains in one version and help you in the other. But yeah, people's perspectives on them would definitely depend on which game they played!
Yeah depending on which team you ran into it could drastically effect your perspective on them. If you see team magma and they're the bad guys then naturally your opinion would be skewed based on that. There's probably still people that haven't experienced both games which only gives them the one sided perspective
Its crazy to think that gen 5 was one of if not the most hated gen and now its considered one of the better ones and has (according to these poles) the most memorable and interesting characters
I remember Gen 5 not being well received when it first came out, but now it has seemed to be the most universally appreciated game, at least from a story standpoint and I have to agree. Gameplay in other games may have been better but the story never had the feel that Unova had.
If this poll were held today, I'm certain that many Gen 9 characters would have cracked the top 10 since Scarlet and Violet simply did an immaculate job with characterization and story. Characters like Nemona, Penny, Larry, Sada, Turo, and Director Clavell would rank very high and Arven without a shadow of doubt would be in the top 3. It's only been a few weeks but he's already beloved by Pokemon fans at this point and for good reason!
As a masters ex player and a Cynthia fan, Cynthia being first doesn't surprise me. I mean, when she first came out, she directly was put against Lance for the most powerful Champion, she got what is basically a girlboss attire that, aside from the haircut and the Komo-o thingies, could fit well for going to work at an office, then she got a satanic milf nurse outfit as a warning for Volo (on top of the Vilain Arc, its main purpose of course), and she recently got put against Red for most powerful trainer period with a badass costume. And she was chosen to be in the trainer lodge on top of it all. So really, not surprising of her to get 1st.
i feel so bad for Trace! i never finished Let's Go because i wasn't a fan of the gameplay, but he was easily my favorite part of the game. he was just a nice little guy and i looked forward to each moment i'd get to bump into him :>
I think people's issue with him is that he's not Blue. No one thinks of Trace as Trace, they think of him as Blue's replacement, but they're just not worth comparing personalities...
Well comparing his replacement in Blue to him it's easy to see why people don't like him. If they'd done a better job of making him a better character then he wouldn't be the replacement that he is. Comparing the 2 and you can see just how big of an impression Blue left and how little if any Trace made
Emmet being so popular is a complete shock to me. I'm pretty sure most people didn't even know he existed before legends arceus (a game he wasn't even in mind you). Like I've constantly heard no one played the subway fights
I think the reason Emmet became really popular is because the fact that Ingo is in Legends Arceus. Since the two of them are inseparable twins, fans like to think that Emmet is now a tragic character who’s trying to find his brother or gone completely insane with him not around.
If Ingo's popular, then I guess it would make sense for his twin brother to be loved as well. I'm proof of that. Emmet's my favorite Pokemon charcter now.
Cynthia deserves that top slot. And she did it with very little of her backstory explored. That's impressive. Also, something that should be rectified.
@@1rkhachatryan It really was! I certainly count it to an extent but it wasn't really a lot of info. Still ,what we did get was both nice and of course, super adorable. Smol Cynthia is so precious.
Yeah I'm positive ages of the ppl participating would be the biggest factor as it'd influence what games they've played and by extension what characters theyd have gotten attached to. Would've been interesting to see how many here played anything before switch era, if they took any breaks from the series, they've only played a couple titles, WHEN in their lives they played a given gen. Lots of interesting influencing factors
They've been popular for years in Japan so it's nice Legends Arceus made them loved over here as well. Even if it means that they're seperated and we may or may not see them reunited.... yeah I don't wanna think about that
I'm surprised that May and Brendan scored so high for rivals. Sure, they were a bit more challenging than others, but personality-wise they fit into the same categories as the X/Y rivals... Also I wish Cheren and Bianca scored a little higher in general considering they had a whole new game to show their development. Maybe it would've been more impactful if Cheren wasn't the first gym leader and rather one of the last, or even the champion/e4. I really love them both still, they have the best encounter themes in the entire franchise imo.
Yeah surprised they were so low too. I guess its moreso N simping overtook any gen5 attention in the rival department but it's weird cause they're easily the best written of the ones that aim to have significant development imo. But i guess folks did say that factor wasnt super important
I didn't take part in this poll but I'm so glad that 4 characters from gen 7 made it into the top 10. Alola is one of my favorite regions and S/M & US/UM is my favorite personal games ever. Sad tho not many characters aren't as popular tho but I still enjoyed them regardless like Hau,The Ultra Recon Squad and Sophocles. Oh also in regards to the poll Truegreen shoulda also do a poll for the mothers who help starts the players journey too.
I’m glad Alola had good representation in the most popular characters because I really love the Alola games and I think they get dragged more than they should.
I believe Alola brought so many good characters and deciding on making a character driven plot was a very great change to the game. I love everything about the characters in Alola, they are all great
Honestly not a surprice, Cynthia was, is and always will be the true queen. I mean she is really perfect character, powerful and menacing in battle, yet kind, sweet and caring when she isn’t anihilating trainers dreams. Plus her design is cool. And in the series she is even better.
One of the reasons why cynthia is the most popular character is that her champion team being diverse and full of type coverage makes the battle challenging. (Same for N)
Great vid! Really like how you divided the categories seems very thorough way to fet opinions. I thought team magma and team aqua vote was split between the two teams, but it's interesting to see the result as a team overall!
Lysander, Archie and Maxie are my favorite "true" leaders, so im shocked theyre so low! N is my ultimate fav though, and Silver is my favorite rival so im happy about those two
Scarlet and Violet had so many strong characters that I am certain it would have upended these results. I'd go as far as to say that 3-5 character from Gen 9 would have cracked the Top 10.
At this point I doubt anyone is surprised at who is the most popular character in pkmn. Just place her into the discussion and you know shes going to win.....Shes just that good.
Roxie was the most popular single game Gen 5 gym leader, if she were in both then she would’ve been higher in the list. She’s my favorite in the gen as well, great design and her gym is fantastic
Gen 5 is my favorite gen and I'm so happy it was loved by the fans it got the Best Villain Team, Best Gym Leaders, Best Elite four, and Best starters! (based on this poll at least)
Well done. Great video. I really do appreciate this kind of research and content. It would be interesting to add another question related to the audience age or about which franchise do they start playing. I would be not surprised with the pool result demonstraing that the majority of the fan base being part of an specific generation is what made them choose the latest characters over the previous ones, since some our choices may be due to emotional bonds. Anyway, again ... nice video !!!!
Volo became one of my favourite characters in all videogames, and is my favourite Pokémon character, so I’m very happy with how he placed in his categories 😊
as someone fully obsessed with Mars I'm unreasonably happy she scored so high. While pokemon games are going downhill in many categories, like plot or gimmick, the character design gets better and better every generation and its the reason alone I'm excited for scarlet and violet.
Yeah maybe bdsp helped give a slight boost but i always liked Galactics admins. Still crush hard on Juniper to this day. Yeah, i know she beat and mocked our childhood friend while he was trying to help save a legendary pokemon from her and she's a part of an evil organization but i love me my mean gorls in fiction. And those thighs dont lie 👀
kinda wish there was options for the mystery dungeon characters, since even though they are pokemon they do have unique characters (though i think if that were the case Grovyle would have squeezed into that top 26 easily)
Wow! Gen 5 won quite a few of the rounds. I was a little surprised as I know this generation is still a little controversial for some, especially from the start (has changed over time). It is my personal favorite generation. It brought some of my favorite Pokemon, Zorua, Zoroark, Reshiram, and the Snivy line, and even my favorite character/NPC, N ( just a few months ago, I completed a set of cards that all are either N or feature N, 17 cards total (this includes regular cards and their holo variation). Though to add, isn't N kind of a "champion?" At the end of Black and White, after you've beaten the Elite Four and make it to the Champion's room, N has just beaten Adler. (Cynthia wod still have won that round though I am sure.) (I am probably one of the few people who isn't a "fan" of Cynthia. I don't know why, just never really went further than seeing her as a Champion to battle and defeat.)
If we're talking about characters who left a strong impression on me in a very short time, it's gotta be Ghetsis. Characters I was most intrigued by would be N, Colress, Guzma, and AZ. These are the kind of characters I'd normally like, but go hell with it all. Sonia is cute af and that's all she needs to get my no 1 spot
Ron didn’t talk about Bede at all in the rival poll, so I’ll do it. I think his placement makes sense. He’s not as popular as Hop or Marnie, but still a great rival who places above average. He’s rude and smug like the classic rivals, but he has layers, and he develops into more than a stuck-up kid. He would probably place higher if Sword and Shield’s dialogue was a little better.
If we saw a glimpse of him during his training with Opal rather than suddenly appearing as a changed man, it would have made a deeper impact. But we literally see him being taken by Opal and the next second, he has a changed heart. I would have appreciated a little more if we caught him on his break and maybe be a little hesitant in his stance and where his heart lies, or something. Really would have hit his character development deeper.
Amazing list results and video Ron! I am definitely sensing a bit of recency bias, but Hisui really made a mark on the community, and it only makes sense since the characters in Legends are redesigns of previous people we've grown to love along the years. I honestly think Alola and especially Galar deserve kudos for having some of the least well received games in the franchise, and yet top scoring in their characters. Goes to show that Pokémon fans can still be appreciative of the good of a game/generation despite its shortcomings.
Ingo , Barry , and Arven are my favourite . Ingo is so nice and very helpful with a really good lore in Legends Arceus , Barry is just really funny and makes you feel like a criminal for being a minute late to anything , and Arven’s story is really sad and I really sympathise with him , and also his battles are so good and tough unlike Nemona who’s battles are EXTREMELY repetitive and don’t have one bit of difficulty .
As a Unova stan, my heart is so happy with this video. But I feel bad for Johto not getting love from Gamefreak and fans 😔 maybe I should become a Johto stan
Two characters I really like (Brycen and Shauntal) did really poorly, but then again, I like Brycen because he reminds me of a relative and Shauntal because she's a writer like me. Those are some pretty personal reasons to like them, so I understand that others don't feel the same.
A few takeaways I got from this: Kinda surprised Professor Magnolia is so low. Out of all the main professors Elm is probably the one I remember the least. I absolutely love Klara as well as some of the underhand tactics she uses like setting up poison spikes before the battle even begins, very creative and wish more stuff like this happened. She’s also got a very cute design. would’ve been interesting to see which version of Lusamine fans enjoyed more, base Sun and Moon Lusamine or USUM Lusamine. Both are pretty great but battling Mother Beast Lusamine in base game Sun and Moon feels like a bigger threat. I just realized…do the Team Flare admins even have names? I know there’s the guy who everyone jokes is Pitbull/Mr. Worldwide but looking into it doesn’t show they actually have names, maybe I just missed it. I actually really like Erika, her design is super pretty especially with her Kimono tying back to the Japanese origins of Pokémon. Thought Pryce would be a bit more popular especially with his role in the manga. I know this is primarily talking about their game counterparts but still. Brycen deserves more love. I get Pokéstar studios is weird but definitely unique. Though Mina was way more popular. Also just learned this but she appears in the Let’s Go games randomly. How did I not know this? Kinda surprised Flint the Ronald McDonald reject is as popular as he is. Then again he’s one of the few you get to interact with with outside of battle. Oof kinda feel bad for Trace but also not really. Mr. Briny is more popular than some of the Gen 5 side characters? How? Overall definitely an interesting set of data. Wonder where the player characters would land, I know Red would definitely be pretty high up.
I completely agree with you about Magnolia, her design is wonderful, but maybe Elm's shows off more personality?? My issue was Elm was that he was kind of useless especially when Oak showed up so early in the game. I also thought Laventon would've scored higher but oh well. I'm also surprised with how low Klara scored, maybe people didn't really play the DLC? She's a lovely character I never played USUM (i know, i know...) so when I think Lusamine I always think of mother beast! The Flare admins have names but I would not be able to tell them apart if my life depended on it. I vaguely remember fighting two of them in the poke ball factory... I think both Erika and Pryce should've scored higher based on the manga. I personally find most of the gym leaders to be forgettable, so the manga really helps me to form a personality for them and makes them more likeable. Brycen is awesome. One of the best designed ice-type trainers imo Once again, since I never played USUM, I was pretty upset with her trial in SM. Makes her very forgettable, and there are other fairy-type trainers I like better than her. Sinnoh E4 was the most forgettable for me, but I remember Lucian the most out of all because his battle was challenging for me. Trace had bad luck to begin with, he was put into Blue's shadow, so people expected him to be a little mean. Definitely why he scored so poorly Gen 5 NPCs were a little forgettable for me too, though their designs slapped. I could never get Curtis to call me but after looking it up right now there's specific tiles you need to stand on?!?! Besides that, Mr. Briney is a buff old sailor, so that's cool. And he has Peeko!! And for protags, I think Rosa would be pretty high too up ever since her pokemon masters debut.
Unova with the most favourable Rival, Villain, Evil Team, Gym Leaders, Elite 4, Characters, Region & 2nd best charecter designs & overall character in the verse. Gen 5 won by a landslide
I WAS SO HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS ON N! To this day he is my favourite Pokémon character, and I say this as someone whose first Pokémon game was HG when it came out. Originally I hate BW but when I replayed it years later, I fell in love with the game, so N has a special place in my heart
I was really surprised that the sinnoh e4 was the second most popular e4. Hopefully that means I'll see less people constantly call them 'forgettable.'
Honestly a bit surprised at how popular Guzma and Team Skull in general are given how much flak they seem to get for not being a "real" evil team. Just goes to show that having an understandable or relatable plan/motivation is more important than being a major threat to the world. Team Skull might not have the most ambitious plan, but it's understandable and they stick to it.
19:34 WONDERFUL! That video was great! Love seeing this full roster together and the audience reacts to them. I think it’s interesting how Alola’s heavy plot focus gave it such a glut of beloved characters. I do love Johto, but it’s characters, a lot like it’s dex, is more concerned with adding on to Kanto than making its own thing. That design philosophy has clearly changed.
The MissFortune sisters and others deserve better, hopefully they will get more love with time. I hope we see Klara & Avery again in the future as more grown Trainers with their own Gyms
I was surprised at first at how many Alolan characters ranked, but then I thought about it and it made sense. Everyone on those islands is kinda great. Just something about Kukui being so high made me laugh, though. Probably why he’s so popular; again, he kinda is incredible.
He definitely didn't include N with the champs to inflate Cynthia's score! There's no way people see him more as a rival than as champion. He's less of a rival than Trevor!
Honestly i wasn't surprised that Cynthia won the last category and I'm really happy that N got second place and that Unova was doing pretty good job but I'm glad that every generation and character got their time to shine. (When i saw Unova doing a really good job with N on second place in last category next to Cynthia who got first place my brain was like: N, Unova region and Cynthia: I see no God up here 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗨𝗦)
It does look like Character Designs seem to be (U)Sun/Moon's overall strong suit. Fair play, it's my favourite generation, and it feels nice for it to shine in a positive light. I did not expect Gladion to be on 5th overall, but a very pleasant surprise, he's become somewhat of my favourite character, which kind of had to happen at some point, since my favourite Pokémon is almost exclusively associated with him.
Honestly I think Leon is a better champion then cynthia ( not by battle) but by being there for ther region. One thing I like about Galar is the connection to the people that make feel the gym leaders, challangers and champions like reallife heroes/celebreties. For example if theres a dynamax problem Leon sprints with his Chairzard and sloves it, tries at least to hold back Eternatus and not let a 10 year old go to litteral hell AS THE FIRST OPTION like cynthia
Good to see Unova dominating almost all the region-related polls, and good to see N making it to 2nd! (Also, 19.9 > 18.6. Unless I'm colourblind, Unova beat out Hisui at 18:29)
Ok, I haven’t even watched 1 min of the video- but can we just appreciate how he put non-binary/other in the list of genders??? Even tho I’m cis, I still love the fact he did this. I have friends who aren’t a girl or boy, so it makes me happy you include them :D Thanks so much, I bet you made a lot of people happy with that simple thing 💕(/p)
I'm surprised Lillie is just top 6 considering her full art card from Ultra Prism is crazy expensive for some reason 😅 I think it's also the most expensive full art trainer card, as far as i know, at least
Not a surprise that Cynthia is the favorite character of the playerbase. Then again, the fight alone in the original gen 4 games proved to be the reason why she's memorable, if not for the fact that she does things in the plot
Not looking to hate or anything but what exactly does she do in the plot? All I can remember is her giving you duck medicine, making you run an errand and having a Twitter argument with Cyrus
@@perritoshido5845 Cynthia is similar to other older Champions like Lance and Steven in that she helps the protagonist during the last part of the game before the protagonist fights the evil team leader. Cynthia travels with you into the Distortion world to stop Cyrus, Lance helps you clear out a Team Rocket base, and Steven helps figure out a way to stop Groudon and Kyogre. Most of the champions don’t really do too much in the plot except help clear a path or sends you to your next location.
I loved the fact that the top 6 was basically Cynthia, N and ALOLA, clearly a region of beloved characters
Cynthia also appears in gen 7, in the battle tree, so the top 6 is basically alola and N

Seems like the consensus is that Gen 5 and 7 generally have the characters that are most liked by fans.
Yet these 2 according to fans are the worst gens. Truly suspicious :)
@@generalsynnacle23 The thought of facing that flinchlocking Togekiss with Milotic/Roserade/Garchomp makes me want to puke.

True, most of the characters chosen were either the most popular in a certain category or second in line.
He deserves #1 tbh

Lillie and Marnie! 😍😍😍😍😍
Same when I was like who beat N then he said Cynthia and I just went ooooh yea she’s a person
I love Cynthia she’s great
Respect to Gen 7 for having 4 characters in the overall top 10, more than any other gen
Not even just top 10 but even top 5. That's pretty big and admire the chosen characters all the more for it.
Not all characters are memorable in Gen 7 but it has a bunch of characters that are extremely memorable and it is not surprising for being the most consistent.
i love gen 7
@@_Isuuck.Draws_ OLIVIA IS BEAUTIFUL!
I only started playing when gen 7 came out (I know I’m a fraud of a Pokémon fan how dare I) but it still holds a special place in my heart as being what got me into one of my favorite things
Although I’ve been interested in Pokémon for like 9 years and know a lot about the older games despite not having played them
The reason I haven’t been playing for that long was because I wasn’t that old when they came out, and i’m not that old now as I’m still a tween
I LOVE Gen 5 and so I’m super glad it had a great showing with the fans!

From watching this video all the way through, I was basically able to conclude:
- Gen 8 has the best character designs
- Gen 4 has the best Champion and overall character (Cynthia)
- Gen 7 has some of the most memorable NPCs
- Gen 5 is the best in basically every other aspect
Shoutout to Professor Oak for holding up his game the whole time and carrying Gen 1 for the categories he is in
Everybody loves Professor Oak! He's the OG!

As a Unova fanboy, these results make me super happy. Props for Alola for dominating the top 10.
Indeed , good for Guzma - but I find him one of the most amusing and well designed, too...
Happy to see Unova doing really good, which makes sense because those games were more story focused so ofc they have good characters
Imagine a movie about the gen 5 or 7 story that you can watch in the cinema
@@SpecialZimble shut up and take my money
I love how Ingo and Volo have been so accepted by the fandom to the point they rival N’s popularity. Maybe you should have a poll for everyone that scored first in their respective categories? Could be fun.
Wasn't the point of the final Top 25 to rank the winners of each category?
Do love the Pokémon franchise, and the just as much love many of the characters throughout mainseries. Top 25 isn't too surprising, but it fills me with joy nonetheless. N, Gladion, and Lillie probably making my personal top three.
I have just finished the alola anime and let me tell you now i am so fond of lillie and gladion even more than when i play the game.
Despite that i think lillie story even in the game is one of the best!
@@maGiCpinkBear Just in case you did not know, the Lillie story arc continues in Pokémon journeys 111, and is currently ranked as one of the best Pokémon episodes ever :3
- Also episode 112 about Alola is amazing
I actually very surprised that Steven doesn't make it to the overall list. I actually find him very popular.
Honestly imo the game’s only issues were the following:
-Rose’s plan
-Routes between gyms felt too short
-Mouse cursor in credits
But otherwise SwSh was a good game
I was so happy when Emmet made it
The twins were popular before hisui but yeah ingo made both more recognizable to the general public.
@@christianvazquez1835 Popular in Japan but yeah
But i guess ppl preferres story importance after all
i love gens 5-7, and im happy they’re characters are well loved! (though kalos a little less than others 😅)
same here :>
and yeah kalos less bc of dianthe
Really impressive that Volo ranked so high based off of his low screen time and only 1 game. The sad truth is he will probably never even be mentioned in another game.
Actually I think Volo has a lot of screentime in that one game and has more plot relevance than Cynthia ever did in all mainline games she appeared in.
@@yangwenlifangirl well he has low screen time because he has a single appearance in the series. People are gonna pick their favourite based off of everything, not just the games. And your right about plot relevance lol Cynthia does nothing significant in the core games.
Low screen time? Volo has more screen time than some of the characters around him on the list!
Love that gen 7 did so good, favorite gen hands down
Its crazy to think that gen 5 was one of if not the most hated gen and now its considered one of the better ones and has (according to these poles) the most memorable and interesting characters
Ghetsis Is DEF A Champion Too !
Love your pfp

I love these poll videos, maybe since they also involve viewer participation. Now I patiently wait for the next poll.
Ghetsis Was The Gen 5 Champion In The Original BW
i feel so bad for Trace! i never finished Let's Go because i wasn't a fan of the gameplay, but he was easily my favorite part of the game. he was just a nice little guy and i looked forward to each moment i'd get to bump into him :>
I think people's issue with him is that he's not Blue.
If this poll was taken before Legends Arceus he would have been way lower though
Ingo and Emmet is very popular in Japan before PLA is a thing. In their polls, Both of them places 2nd and 3rd after N.
If Ingo's popular, then I guess it would make sense for his twin brother to be loved as well. I'm proof of that. Emmet's my favorite Pokemon charcter now.
Gen 5 was really ahead of its time. Let's hope they don't mess up the remakes
Gen 5 and Gen 7 showed up large in this video, things you love to see
To be honest, there are a lot of Pokemon Characters and all of them are top tier. All of them are very cool and awesome
Cynthia deserves that top slot. And she did it with very little of her backstory explored. That's impressive.
Also, something that should be rectified.
Not sure if you count it be the anime recently did some background on Cynthia and it was actually pretty cool :).
@@1rkhachatryan It really was! I certainly count it to an extent but it wasn't really a lot of info. Still ,what we did get was both nice and of course, super adorable. Smol Cynthia is so precious.
@@ajanis95 I second that. The brief backstory in the anime was good but it wasn't enough! We need a fully fleshed out history.
It’d have been really interesting to ask what year people were born, and see how well years of birth line up with favourite groups of NPCs.
I mean is it even a surprise that Ingo and Emmet are so popular? They have their own subfandom for crying out loud
They've been popular for years in Japan so it's nice Legends Arceus made them loved over here as well. Even if it means that they're seperated and we may or may not see them reunited....
yeah I don't wanna think about that
White was my 2nd ever mainline game and i just saw them as those cooky subway twins for years. But i guess one of them being in arceus carries hard
@Eclipse I said that
I'm surprised that May and Brendan scored so high for rivals.
Oh man the poetry of Guzma still being bronze 😂 but 3rd overall is awesome :)
Thought Ingo would be top 3 considering how well he did in his categories
N is my ultimate fav though, and Silver is my favorite rival so im happy about those two
So Cynthia, N, Guzma, Kukui and Gladion? Many more male characters than I was expecting to see 😁
Scarlet and Violet had so many strong characters that I am certain it would have upended these results. I'd go as far as to say that 3-5 character from Gen 9 would have cracked the Top 10.
I thought that Oleana would've/should've been included for the less important antagonists list.
At this point I doubt anyone is surprised at who is the most popular character in pkmn. Just place her into the discussion and you know shes going to win.....Shes just that good.
Nah, she's overrated. Her team is fine, as is her design, but her role in the games could have been improved.
Roxie was the most popular single game Gen 5 gym leader, if she were in both then she would’ve been higher in the list. She’s my favorite in the gen as well, great design and her gym is fantastic
So glad that everyone is starting to love Alola as I did. Really love the family, Gladion, Lillie and Lusamine (not Mohn tho).
The Alola games are super overHATED in my opinion and I'm SO glad that most characters placed super high here
Gen 5 is my favorite gen and I'm so happy it was loved by the fans
it got the Best Villain Team, Best Gym Leaders, Best Elite four, and Best starters!
I'm glad that both Subway Bosses got on the Top 25 (with Emmet barely hanging on), can't separate them (again) after all!
I'm happy Emmet managed to make it. I was a little worried he woudn't.
as someone fully obsessed with Mars I'm unreasonably happy she scored so high.
(Cynthia wod still have won that round though I am sure.)
(I am probably one of the few people who isn't a "fan" of Cynthia.
He's the best rival in that game, and nothing can convince me otherwise
A few takeaways I got from this:
Kinda surprised Professor Magnolia is so low.
She's a lovely character
I never played USUM (i know, i know...) so when I think Lusamine I always think of mother beast!
One of the best designed ice-type trainers imo
Once again, since I never played USUM, I was pretty upset with her trial in SM.
Definitely why he scored so poorly
Gen 5 NPCs were a little forgettable for me too, though their designs slapped. I could never get Curtis to call me but after looking it up right now there's specific tiles you need to stand on?!?! Besides that, Mr. Briney is a buff old sailor, so that's cool. And he has Peeko!!
And for protags, I think Rosa would be pretty high too up ever since her pokemon masters debut.
the team flare admins have names. But then there are also the team flare admins without names, who are just upgraded versions of the grunts
Unova with the most favourable Rival, Villain, Evil Team, Gym Leaders, Elite 4, Characters, Region & 2nd best charecter designs & overall character in the verse. Gen 5 won by a landslide
If it weren't for Cynthia existing, we would've also claimed best character overall.
I love how Ingo and Emmet are by far the most popular battle facility leaders. Submas nation stay strong ‼️

So glad to see Unova getting the love it deserves.
So glad Grimsley is more popular than I thought! He’s my favorite character, and I’m sure the fact that he was in Alola boosted his popularity.
As a Johto fan, it sucks seeing it score so low in the polls 😭
Ikr, I’m coping
Yeah, but Johto doesn't have very interesting characters.
This was actually such a good and fun breakdown thank you so much for doing this !!
Great Video! Love it
I was only missing Oleana (Gen 8) tho, I thought she would be in the villain category or in the last one haha! Great job man :))
Aim the only one who thought cheren and bianca were the best rivals?
I really would love to see another poll - all about Pokemon Music!
This is a super impressive video! Really in depth, nice work Ron!
Rowan is my favorite because of the way he roasted the team galactic grunts. In terms of the professors
@Truegreen7, thanks for this video. It must have taken an eternity to pull all this info together!
Youngster Joey is the Best. Top Percentage character.
He definitely didn't include N with the champs to inflate Cynthia's score! There's no way people see him more as a rival than as champion. He's less of a rival than Trevor!
I don’t know why, but there’s something about Pokémon statistics that is so interesting. Great video.
Honestly i wasn't surprised that Cynthia won the last category and I'm really happy that N got second place and that Unova was doing pretty good job but I'm glad that every generation and character got their time to shine.
(When i saw Unova doing a really good job with N on second place in last category next to Cynthia who got first place my brain was like:
N, Unova region and Cynthia: I see no God up here 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗨𝗦)
Man I wish I had voted in this poll (idk how I missed it) but Rowan being that low is just wrong. The Winona slander will NOT be tolerated
I'm surprised Emma is so low... I love her character SO MUCH!
Yeeeees, Love for N and Gen 5 (the best gen)! 🙌🏻
Unless I'm colourblind, Unova beat out Hisui at 18:29)
One thing people need to get out of this poll is gen7 is seriously underrated
Paldea would also have crashed this i thinks those character's look fire🔥
I love seeing the Alola love ❤️ great video!
Ok, I haven’t even watched 1 min of the video- but can we just appreciate how he put non-binary/other in the list of genders??? Even tho I’m cis, I still love the fact he did this. I have friends who aren’t a girl or boy, so it makes me happy you include them :D
Thanks so much, I bet you made a lot of people happy with that simple thing 💕(/p)
I'm surprised Lillie is just top 6 considering her full art card from Ultra Prism is crazy expensive for some reason 😅
I think it's also the most expensive full art trainer card, as far as i know, at least
I personally like Trevors gimmick, since it forces you to scour the lands for more New pokemon
Is it weird that I'm in highschool and I still love watching this stuff
Lot of people watches these stuff and it def isn't weird
It's not weird, many Pokémon fans are adults. :)
